CYBORG9 While I do like G-Force, I originally purchased the Platinum edition for $30, I'm really sick and disgusted with SoundSpectrum's unconscionable $15 yearly update fee. While I did pay it for a while I now have to say "Enough, no more!". Why can't SoundSpectrum Just offer G-Force's Platinum edition with updates at no charge? I had also purchased their Whitecap visualizer but refuse to pay the $15 upgrade. I do agree with others who feel that SoundSpectrum is just too money hungry. (Version 3.9.4)

SIDDHARTHA I agree with many here-I WAS a paid user of this program, but the upgrade policy got to me, and I've not used this in about a year or so. I think a one-time 20$ price would be fair, but making us pay for upgrades each year doesn't make it worth it to me (Version 3.9.4)

And to think that after charging that they can't provide stellar customer support. It's equivalent to spitting in their customer's faces. (Version 3.9.2)

PERSON1229 The plug-in is a demo. You have to buy it to make the demo text/banners go away. But then, you only get updates for a year - and they won't help you get back to a version you're licensed to use if you overwrite it. Their customer support is awful. (Version 3.9)

CORTIG This is a nice iTunes visualizer, but the idea (not clearly indicated on the site) that I have to pay my tax every year to get the new point-release versions really doesn't do it with me. Eudora tried that and it didn't do them much good. I'd rather stick to the usual notion of getting the point-releases free (with the bugfixes) and paying for more important ugrades when they come out (and if I want to). I renewed my licence a couple of times, but the scheme eventually got on my nerves. (Version 3.8.4)

CAL6N I can't believe the greed of the developer. I've blindly paid the annual upgrade-tax since it was first introduced. I must have paid over $50 by now, and for what? A plug-in for iTunes that was quite clever 5 years ago. Well, it's not clever now. It may have improved its frame rate at higher resolutions, but it hasn't progressed one bit. The FREE Magnetosphere is at the start of its life and is far more interesting than this, but if you want to see what a real visualiser should be like, go and look at milkdrop on a windows machine. It's free, it's innovative and it shows the G-Force team up for the money-grubbing, amateurs that they are. Check out ProjectM, although it's in its infancy and the many new quartz-composer based visualisers that are springing up. More problems: Firstly, EVERY time I upgrade, I have to trash all the crap "sprites" that are supplied and replace the collection I've built through the years. Secondly, this POS now insists on licence verification over the internet for EVERY upgrade installation. Thirdly, it won't play nicely through a video mixer and projector set-up. This greedy bunch of slackers won't be getting their upgrade tax this year, or ever again, from me. It is, after all, just a third-rate iTunes plug-in. On a more positive note, most versions rarely crash. (Version 3.8.1)

SYHARRIS G-Force is much more than "just a visualizer", it's a device that creates constantly unfolding images of such incredible beauty, breathtaking elegance and mind boggling sophistication that one's esthetic sensibilities are brought to orgasm again and again. There is nothing out there like it, absolutely nothing. Images can be saved to savor again and again with just the touch of a key on one's keyboard. And, of course, it's a luscious compliment to your music listening enjoyment. The $20 (Gold version) or $30 (Platinum version - with additional features), and optionally, a $15 yearly fee for all updates....which are frequent, is money well spent, imo, considering the unending pleasure and enjoyment it provides. CAL6N You must be both rich and easily pleased, mate, because G-Force is an expensive, substandard visualiser. It might have got faster over the years but it hasn't actually progressed enough to justify the annual upgrade-tax. Go and have a look at milkdrop on a windows machine. It makes this look like an infant's finger-painting on a paper doily. (Version 3.8.1)

SYHARRIS Well, I'm neither rich nor easily pleased but G-Force does put a smile on my face while Milkdrop doesn't. I saw Milkdrop on a friends PC and wasn't really impressed. I do think that G-Force is more elegant and sophisticated. I will agree, though, that the $15 yearly fee for upgrades is rather greedy and disgusting of the developer, especially since, as you pointed out, G-Force hasn't really progressed all THAT much over the past few years, at least not enough to really justify the annual $15. Dunno, yet, but I may just stop paying the fee. But the enjoyment that I've gotten and still get from G-Force has made the overall cost, so far, worthwhile. If you're not "jazzed" by G-Force and prefer Milkdrop, fine....people have different tastes. (Version 3.8.1)

Unfortunately, G-Force 3.7.2 does not work with Mac OS X 10.3 (it's been a while since it became impossible to support 10.3 give G-Force's graphics requirements). When you enter your e-mail/license code on the download page, you need to download the older version, 3.1.3 that is specified for Mac OS X 10.3. Give that a try and let us know how you make out. I post this only for the reason that on site it says 3.7.2 does work on 10.3.9 Another good idea is they should keep an arcive for old versions. (Version 3.7.2)

8OO8 G-Force is quite processor intensive. Your machine's 400MHz of power may not be able to handle G-Force's requirements. And merely 128 MBs of RAM is really crippling your machine, especially these days. It's most unlikely that the problem is due some glitch in G-Force. I'm running G-Force 3.7.2 on a Powerbook 1GHz with 1.5GBs of RAM and am experiencing no problems whatsoever. (Version 3.7.2)

8OO8 G-Force is FAR more sophisicated in what it can do.The imagery is much more complex and has a far greater depth to its beauty. I believe G-Force's developer had a hand in the creation of the iTunes visualizer some years ago. iTunes visualizer doesn't seem to be updated or improved upon, it remains as it was when initially created (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone), whereas G-Force is always being improved upon. I've captured some amazingly beautiful screenshots off of the Standalone which I've saved and use for my desktop background. G-Force just continually blows me away...it just keeps getting better and better; I am in total awe at this incredibly beautiful creation. SHENLON G-Force is a beautiful piece of work. Personally, I like WhiteCap better, but since I got this Intel MacBook, I can no longer use it, because it's not UB... *sob* But G-Force does well, also. The only problem I have is with the presentation of the "free" version. They market it as the free version, and if you pay money you get the extra features. However, instead of just being the normal version, and then having the option of upgrading it, it acts more like "cripple-ware" or "nag-ware," where it keeps telling you that it's a free trial version every minute or so, and has the disgusting splash screen when you turn it on. Why market it as the "free" version and tell me "But, if you pay, you get all these extra features!" and then annoy me to death with the free version until I pay? No, it's not effective. Might as well just keep the iTunes default visualizer, since it's basically just a crippled version of G-Force anyway. Otherwise, if you have 20 or 30 bucks to spare, it's a good piece of software. I will grin when Tiger users may find the need to upgrade to Puma (if it's still named that) to use their software. a example; I could not watch Jobs' last keynote speech because I have QT6, not 7 which I thought was not right. SOUNDSPECTRUMSUPPORT For those of you downloading G-Force 3.5, please know that this new version uses OpenGL technologies for graphics acceleration (which means a much faster and more capable G-Force). However, for those of you that own Macs that are more than 2-3 years old, are without graphics acceleration, or running OS X 10.2 or earlier, you will need to use G-Force 3.1.3 because 3.5 will not work for you (note, we are working on an enhancement to provide legacy support). If you need download access to 3.1.3 please email support at soundspectrum. In addition to providing faster graphics via OpenGL, the 3.5 release of G-Force also introduces the G-Force Toolbar (for controlling and customizing G-Force) and the G-Force V-Bar (which will provide your desktop with lots of eye candy). Enjoy! If you have any questions or need technical support, please email us! Key at SoundSpectrum (Version 3.5)

JAYPRO For those of you Mac users who still may need to perform a manuall install and remain somewhat unsure of how to go about it, here's what you do: 1. Click on the .pkg icon to unstuff the file...;). 2. Locate the Library subfolder in your Home directory. Then, into Library's *Application Support* subfolder, drop the contents of "Soundspectrum". This will be the "control center" from where all available "arms" of G-Force (iTunes vis, standalone, saver & DarkRoom) will work. If you want to add additional effects to your copy of the program, all the config directories will be in "Soundspectrum" and you can plunk them in the appropriate places. (BTW, you will notice in "Soundspectrum" folder an icon--**G-Force.bundle**--that looks just like the one for the iTunes visual. This is intended to be the very "master plug" that brings together all aspects of G-Force on your computer. The other iTunes plug icon meant for the Visuals folder is *not* redundant. BTW again, what you see in the saver reflects what you put into your effects folders as well as the preëxisting bundled effects. Therefore the only "option" as such that the saver has is wjust that, i.e. what you put in the various config repositories.) 3. Drop the iTunes plug icon (and do make sure it's the one called G-Force for iTunes.bundle...not to be confused with the one aforementioned) from the *folder of the same name* into your iTunes Visualizations directory. Everything should work fine from there. (Version 3.0)

ANDY O'MEARA Hi folks... I'm the creator/developer of G-Force, and I just wanted to say hi to folks and say some words. When we launched G-Force 3, we had a lot of balls in the air--we were switching our web provider to a commercial-caliber webhost, we were adding significant website additions and content, and were were launching a new version for Windows all at the same time. When I did my testing for the G-Force installer, I was using Mac OS 10.4. I never thought that it would be broken for 10.3 (given claims from Apple there should be no issues--unfortunately, that only applies if a package doesn't have resources). In any case, I do regret missing this one, but it's fixed now in the currently posted Mac OS installers. If you use Mac OS 10.2, you still have an issue. You can perform a manual install, or email our support account account and we'll walk you through it, step by step. Anyway, onward and upward, and I hope everyone enjoys G-Force 3!

JAYPRO This will be my last post on this; and I am happy to say that it has very good news attached to it. This afternoon I was honored to receive a personal phone call from the developer himself, who gave me the low-down on things. To make a somewhat long story painlessly short, the latest re-post of GF 3 *works splendidly* now. The anti-aliasing feature of the wave shapes makes this product look even more elegant than before, if that were possible. Also, the flowfields don't seem to be as hectic as in previous iterations. Before v3, I tried addressing this by ratcheting down the PFS (Frame/sec) param; but this I don't think had a direct role to play on how the Flowfields actually presented themselves. IIRC, there also seem to be some improvements with how sprites (photos et al.) integrate into the mix; so I'll be looking more at that. I'l continue to play around with it to see what else has changed for the better. PS: I may be wrong here; but is the screensaver supposed to have options attached? I'll try re-DL'ing it to see if it does. Meanwhile, if I may, I wish to thank Andy O'Meara for sticking it out beyond the call of duty. All I can (and maybe should) say here is that I've tragically misjudged and underappreciated his efforts, not to mention how little time he really has to do so many things.

JAYPRO I first wish to identify myself as author of the previous anonymous post...if that matters to anybody. I also wish to identify myself as chief Moderator of the SoundSpectrum.com forums. That said, I hope this review is taken in a spirit of well-intentioned concern and with genuine hope that things will be soon resolved. I have contnued to independently effort a solution to the problem I previously described without success. Attempting to address this matter in a more private vein short of a highly concerned e-mail, I have been trying to access the forum throughout the day. Apparently, though, the persistent issues being encountered there are more difficult to resolve than from what what I could infer via tech support's e-mail to me last night. Hence, there being no choice left to me at present save this avenue. The more I give thought to it, I am that much more convinced that there should have been as much beta testing on the Mac side as there was on the other platform. I for one would have been willing to stick it out for an additional month or two in order to give this milestone release the proper tweakage due it. I recall not long ago when SS.com would, for want of a better term, "out" beta after beta, both here and at VersionTracker, oftentimes to the annoyance of those of the opinion that such was not the way to develop one's product. Well, what I perceive that we have here is the polar extreme, albeit in this singular instance. Maybe one can chalk it up to drooling eagerness on their part to bid everyone "Welcome to the Platinum Age!" However, this does not IMO seem to justify releasing v3 for all platforms *only after extensive beta-work on the Windoze side.* As I suggested here before--and with all due respect to GF's developers BTW--*much* more attention should have been given to "pruning the vine on the other side", as it were. Sure, this is a "Mac-cenric" app and thus *infinitely* easier to "un-dork". And I'm sure they'll get around to it. It's certainly not helping that their forums problem is taking time away from that. But just the same. I still would have liked to see *just a bit more* beta-testing for the platform for which this was originally made. Thank you for listening. (Version 3.0)

ANONYMOUS I meant to post this here but accidentally triple-posted in the Responses Section. Anyway, this repost has mixed reviews from me. On the one hand, the screensaver mod works like a charm. On the other, I was only able to play the iTunes build once before it reverted to the blank screen. I.e.: I installed it, played iTunes and it worked well. I then quit, re-entered and then met the issue in question. I tried manual re-installation of the Boot and iTunes plug with no success. I also have a question as to why two ioTunes plug icons were included with the files. Which one actually works? I'm continuing to walk myself thru the problems and hope to solve this independently. ANDY O'MEARA Hi there.... Sorry to hear about your problems with the installer. I've been working around the clock since tuesday to address this issue for Mac OS 10.3 folks, and we pretty much have it licked (it's been tough b/c I don't have a 10.3 machine handy). I posted a new round of archives of G-Force for Mac OS X midday today fixing the problem, so you should be all set now. Be sure to check out the screen saver--you get it for free if you're already a gold user! Thanks and very sorry for the installer troubles,

JAYPRO The repost has mixed results here. On the one hand, the screensaver module has worked fine every time I've run it. On the other, the iTunes plug worked only once before returning to a blank screen. I ran it the first time without any problem. But when I quit iTunes and ran it again, I go back to the screen problem. I tried manually re-installing the bundle icon and Boot file as well, BTW without success. Almost there. (Version 3.0)

ANONYMOUS Works great once properly installed! Very cool. note to the last few posters and future downloaders. I had the black screen and white screen problems alternatley after trying a few different things. Then I foundd the workaround that works. NOTE: I am running OSX-10.2.8 (jaguar) so no garuntees there are TWO 'Library' folders; one is in the hard drive and the other is in your home folder The installer app put the G-Force stuff into the one in my HOME folder, and I got blackscreen syndrome. So I tried manually copying the G-Force files into the right places in the base 'Library' folder, (specific directions below) the one directly in the HD. Than I got white screen syndrome. Thirdly (this is the fix) I deleted the files that the installer put into my home folder's Library, and left the ones I manually put into the HD's library. Now it works. To manually install correctly: (quit iTunes first) 1.unstuff the .zip to the desktop, open the folder with the files in it, not the installer. 2. Move the 'SoundSpectrum' folder into 3. Move the 'G-Force for iTunes budle' into (Version 3.0)

CIPHEX You don't even have to pay for the Gold version to see the beauty of this visualizer!! Though if you want to be truly astounded by a plethora of effects and combinations of particle systems then by all means drop 10 little ones for this baby. Download the demo first... see where it takes you.. and expect 10 times more from the Gold version! The scripts are so well concieved, the speed is uncanny. (I can't confirm this but it even seems to have some kind of speed compensation for when system load might slow it down.) I just know that i can run my most demanding networking and design apps and still have this beauty Popping off things i have never concieved of before without skipping a single "Busy Child" beat. (on a second monitor with small graphics card even) Kudos to apple for wetting our appetites with their built in iTunes visualizer but it does not compare to G-Force.. not by a long shot.

BURNING DONKEY this is the best viz for itunes ever, better than stock, and the effects are really excellent, you have lots of talent there and you can count on my money. The only problem I have with this is that the installer is a bit dodgy, it doesnt work and says that I have to try again. I was wondering if you could cut the installer and just do the manual installer? i really prefer that, but otherwise, wow. Thanks (Version 2.5.3)

DOH go to the developer's website, there is a non-installer version available there (Version 2.5.3)
| Jan 15 2004 |
X MAN I get an error when attempting to install the 2.5.3 pkg. Says, "there were errors installing pkg, try again" I was able to "view pkg contents" and install manualy but figured I'd mention my problem. Aside from my installer prob (BTW I'm running Jag 10.2.6 333mhz Beige G3 170megs RAM) G-Force rocks and always has. (Version 2.5.3)

SHAITAN Despite some lame claims to the contrary, G-Force is STILL the best "ever-changing" visualizer out there -- unlike the few "one trick" visualizers currently available. There's NOTHING like it and it's always evolving. Of course, I'd love to see some new visualizers with the depth of purpose as G-Force. Keep up the great work O'Meara! (Version 2.5.3)

ANONYMOUS negative comments by 'mcmack' and 'mccormick'? fishy. either way, there's nothing about this software that would suggest it's NOT the top dog in visual plug-ins (Version 2.5.3)

MU ADMIN Look... we checked the posts (IP is logged for every post in the MU reviews) in question and they can NOT possibly be from the same person... a 'whois' shows them to be from different parts of the world. OK? (Version 2.5.3)
| Jan 15 2004 |
ANONYMOUS The software is amazing. A lot of the visualizations aren't so good, but that's to be expected... pick the ones you like. On slower machines (like my PCI Mac) even a Radeon 7000 doesn't make the fancier effects work, alas. (Version 2.5.3)

PAUL LIEBER I'm not exactly sure where the recent flood of unwarranted, negative and hostile reviews on GF (and other free programs on MU) are coming from. For starters, FountainMusic IS a great plug-in, but is only one lone visual scheme. Thus, there is simply no comparison between the multitude of schemes in GF and FM's one. Also, the GF animations, IMHO, are commercial grade quality, and FREE. I upgraded not out of a desire for more animations, rather as a way to support an excellent project. Freeware and shareware are simply that: a way to pilot test a product where the consumer decides whether it's worth its weight. This is one of those products. (Version 2.5.2)

WEIR2000 Commendations to Andy for FINALLY getting rid of the installers that never would work for me (they would quit shortly after launch and I never could install G-Force). Now I just had to drop the files into the appropriate place and it works like a charm!! I promptly upgraded to Gold. (Version 2.5.2)

ANONYMOUS macaholic: I'd manually delete the old G-Force files, then get Onyx, check every checkbox under the Automate tab, run it, reboot, and then try installing G-Force 2.5.1 again. Your problem is very likely a permissions or caching glitch, which the Onyx routine will fix. Good luck. (Version 2.5.1)

Easy. Open the G-Force Files folder that you installed. Now open the Sprites folder and find the file G-Force EULA. Open it with Simpletext (an OS 9 text editor), select all the text in the file and hit the delete key. Now save the file and quit Simpletext. G-Force will no longer display that text.
