MAHAMBO Nice at first sight, but very crappy video/audio recording. The audio is completely unsynchronized with the video. Tried to change default settings to no avail. (Version 3.6.5)

///2K Evocam is great! I have two mac's and two Rocketfish webcams streaming perfectly! One tip that was a pain in the arse to figure out is in order to allow other viewers to watch your stream, you need to change the internal IP address (ex. 192.xxx.x.x:8080) to your external IP. To find your external IP address, go to whatsmyip.com. The substitute the external IP (ex. 24.xxx.x.x). So when you send someone the link, send them http://24.xxx.x.x:8080/webcam.html

RANDALL DEMAREE I tried this program out and was quite pleased with the options and ease of use so I bought it. I had a second camera, a linksys wireless g, which wasn't supported so I emailed the develeoper and asked about it. Within two days I had an email back asking for access to my camera so they could look at it. Within a week they'd reverse engineered the firmware, found options that I don't think linksys knows about and had a new version of their software that supported it. Now thats what I call support. The webserver is a piece of cake and the other options are great. I highly recommend both the software and the company. It's these kinds of developers that make the mac community what it is. ANONYMOUS This is one rock solid web cam with some great features. The built in web server works great. I have used it on everything from a G5 to my power G4. The password protection is nice when using it for watching the house. You can not only stream live video, but also take pics and upload them to a directory. I like having the choice. Sometimes I don't want to burn the bandwidth and just take pics every x minutes. You can also use it to record video. A nice extra feature. Great product!!!!! (Version 3.5.1)

KK Have put this through its paces and the 3.5 version is rock solid. Very versatile, very easy to alter settings and features. By far the best webcam program I've used since 1995 and the price is unbeatable. Many kudos to the author. Worth every cent! (Version 3.5)

SHAITAN securityspy is a fine app, but it's more than twice the price of CoolCam. CoolCam is fantastic for the price. (Version 3.5pr1)

ANONYMOUS this is a nice little app, and the price is good, but for far more features and better performance, take a look at securityspy. Very little CPU overhead (in comparison to this app) and very configurable. This is not a dig at this app, but it's always good to have choice, and competition. Now, if only any of these two apps could get the audio as well....

ANONYMOUS What "stereo thing"? Could you be specific? (Version 3.5pr1)
| Sep 1 2004 |
ANONYMOUS you get 2 images from 2 different cameras on 1 canvas, and make this into a movie.
| Sep 2 2004 |
HANK Take two firewire cameras. Put them as far apart as your eyes are separated and point them in the same direction. You'll see one of your cameras. under Items tab INSIDE the EvoCam window, use the little 'compass rose' circle to rotate the image until it is in portrait rather than landscape. Back at the Mac menu bar, /Options/Canvas Size set a custom canvas, in mine it needs to be a bit more than 320 high by a bit more than 480 wide so I can drag two windows each 320 x 240 a bit to align them so they overlap when I look at them in 'stereo' mode. I can parallel view a pair of images side by side; if you can't do that get a cheap stereo viewer or take two simple magnifying lenses and mount them in a piece of cardboard -- that just makes it easier for your eyes to line up the two images so they overlap. Drag your first EvoCam window to left or right side (depending on which camera it picked up). Create a second EvoCam window and use the video options to choose your other camera. (Left camera for left eye, right camera for right eye, if it's close they angle slightly inward as do your eyes when looking at the tip of your nose). Now having said that -- I've never gotten as good results again as I did over a year ago when I first did this, with an OSX 2.something. Apple keeps breaking something with each improvement, the image quality has gotten worse, the IOXperts drivers no longer work (they're trying, but they're chasing Apple's changes), and Apple's own drivers seem to be much worse -- I get less clear and worse color imagery now than I did, not worth using. But this could be the UniBrain Fire-i cameras -- they're cheap, the color match isn't exact between the two and they don't seem to focus crisply. Also Apple doesn't give access to the settings easily -- you'll see more in Ben Bird's 'Videoscope' than you can set and keep set with EvoCam or with Ben Bird's own camera software. So this is still frustrating but promising. The latest EvoCam release shows the same June date for me as the one I already had, but isn't behaving well -- it's confusing the two feeds so when I change the settings for camera 1, the images for both cameras change. So, duh, I dunno. (Version 3.5pr1)

HANK I love EvoCam -- I put two small stereo movie samples made with it, each under 1 meg, at www dot ankh dot members dot sonic dot net (if you can view a stereo pair you ought to be able to see these stereo movies on the screen the same way). EvoCam, two UniBrain Fire-i firewire cameras, Powerbook Pismo G3/400 -- deadly slow firewire bus, but gotta start somewhere! Proof of concept. -- to have an added option for EvoCam to make pairs of files, so I could use the Java Stereo Applet viewer (which allows the viewer a wide choice of ways to view any given pair). (Wish list for the Applet author is, a way to display pairs fast enough to view as a movie!) -- to be able to keep a pair of firewire cameras synchronized while both feeds go into an EvoCam canvas (is there a clock tick or something available)? Otherwise after a few minutes, stereo fails due to synchronization loss). Love the app. Nothing else does this -- and stereo movies are cheap and easy to do with it! (Version 3.4)

WWW.ELECTRONICHOLAS.COM Always a great app, but a pity there isn't really anything new in this update. Have the developers run out of time? Would be nice to have better file save features, improved compatablilty with webcams etc... Still..no complaints, it still works! (Version 3.4)

ANONYMOUS Spent my weekend with an urge to stream my webcam, after much research, Evocam came up tops. A viewer on the other side of the planet said he was getting about 3 fps, very respectable. Simple, effective software, with no restrictions trial period. One quirk, sometimes get a spinning beach ball on first launch, after a force quit, it relaunches stabily (Jag 10.2.6). 2 Notes a. Linksys users-update your firmware b. Runs so unobtrustively, you might forget the stream is running, be careful what you're doing with the cam on :-) (Version 3.1)

ALED GRIFFITHS I downladed this application and it crashes every time I try to use it. It looks like it has a lot of nice functions but that's no good if you can't use them. Maybe it's because of the OS version I'm using - OSX 10.2.4, but I didn't notice anything on Evological's website to say that this would be a problem. (Version 3.0)

CHRISTOPHER SIMMONS Works great with our 9500/200/64MB/OS8.6 sitting in the closet. Much better image quality and consistent connects to the remote web server than we had with StripCam and some other products. Highly recommended.
