ROBBNASHVILLE  I have been using this Mac DVDRipper Pro (as well as RipIt) for a long time now and have yet to have any problem with either of them. They are wonderful and work as advertised. Obviously Geeterbutz, the hardest man in the world to get along with, either posted the negative comments here or had one of his cronies do so. If you don't want to jump through hoops, deal in foreign currencies and still be treated like dog doo, buy MacDVDRipper Pro or RipIt or both. They work flawlessly and are sold like real software instead of requiring you to wear a trench coat and pay homage to an ego-maniac.

JAZZYGUY  Robbnashville: Geezerbutz is a nice guy and a gentleman.I don't know your problem with him but I can say he is a great guy.I am NOT affiliated in any way with Geezerbutz or MacThe Ripper.I just know it works and this one has YET to work.I hope this is acceptable to you and the other strange individual calling himself SJK.

SJK  Best to try it yourself with the 5-rip trial version. With all OS X ripping software the results can vary, especially with some of the newer popular titles like you've mentioned. It's hard to accurately predict what will or won't rip successfully.

ITTY  Best bang-for-the-buck in it's category.

The only ripper that could back up Pixar's Up with no hassles.

Simple DVD back up for an unbeatable price.

JIPSTER  No Problems so far. I bought this app when it was a MU Promotion. I have used through a machine upgrade (older quicksilver G4/733 to late 2008 Intel Mac Mini) and three OS updates (10.4.11, 10.5.x then 10.6.x) and had no problems. At this time, this is the best app for the value - bar none! And it is receiving active updates.

Hope there is a fix soon...

ITTY  Works as advertised. A good alternate to Ripit at half the price. But also twice as slow. [Monsters vs Aliens: Ripit = 28 mins, MDRP = 47 mins]

In my opinion the extra 10 bucks for Ripit is worth it just for the time savings. But that's just my preference.

If speed is not an issue then DVDRipper is the best value of all the rippers out there.

ROBBNASHVILLE  I have both RipIt and Mac DVDRipperPro. I like them both fine. I do admit that I use RipIt more; but I think it's because I had it first and got used to it. It may be faster, as you say; I can't say I've really noticed since I wait until I'm busy doing something else to use either one. I will say though that I've had a couple of DVDs that RipIt could not process that Mac DVDRipper Pro handled flawlessly. The big news in all this for me is Elgato Turbo.264 HD. I don't burn DVDs; I use the software to rip them and make AppleTV files with the Elgato encoder and included software. Talk about fast! A 2-hour movie would take, well 2 hours, in most programs; using the Elgato method, it takes about 40 minutes or even less.

XJSMITH  an outstanding ripper application. the best i have found on the market today. had a problem with installation of 1.4.4 and email for help to developer was answered almost immediately with link to quick and seamless installation. highly recommended. clean simple interface, window pane to watch rip progress, works flawlessly with dvd2oneX for compression and cleanup of zero cells. regular updates provided. have not found any movie to date MDRP can not handle. well worth the money.

LO_PHATZ  Ok so Im a parent of little kids who destroy CD's & DVD's in the blink of an eye :)

I tried everything else including freeware & payware tools.

This is the ONLY Mac ripping tool I can find that is explicitly (to the end user) designed to handle BAD SECTORS on physical media due to SCRATCHES or COPY PROTECTION.

It also deals with and removes (at your discretion) Macrovision copy protection.

Of all the tools I tried this is the only one to make a rip of the movie 'Resident Evil' without drama.

Happy to pay the modest registration fee to encourage the developer to continue.

Q00P  :-)

No, I don't have toddlers. However, I do know how destructive they are....and they do come with a lot of restrictions.

Pros:

- Scratch resistant

- Self repairing

Cons:

- Increase in size over time.

- Can't be paused.

- Not included in IMBD, so you can check their rating before you buy them.

- You can't rip them to your HDD and throw away the original.

DRDUL  MDRP creates a hidden ".dvdcss" folder in a user's home directory. This folder contains a record of every DVD that MDRP has ripped. It would be nice if MDRP removed entries from this folder at the conclusion of each rip, or cleaned this folder out on quit.

NEOX  @DRDUL: Mac the Ripper also leaves this folder behind with all the DVDs that you ripped. Are you sure it is not from Mac The Ripper? I have not used this software, but am very familiar with the .dvdcss hidden folder...

MACHOBBES  It seems to work at least as good as RipIt, and the price is very fair.

The only problem I have so far is the very ugly interface. It

looks so microsoftish - lots of superfluous information,

buttons scattered over the window, the window itself

pretends to be resizable, which is not, and so on.

Surprisingly, their website and logo

are very clean, so they do have taste!

The ripping itself seems to be good, though.

G4JAY  Ok, so far this software just works. No problem. It rips DVDs no fuss no muss. I used to be a supporter of MTR and even donated (they call it a "gift") so that I could get the latest and greatest. I don't mind that aspect so much, it's the fact that there is only one dude making that software and seems to have a lot of drama in his life. As a result, the software development gets pushed to the back burner. As we all know, DVD ripping software needs to be updated constantly due to the new DVD encryption techniques. That said, I pretty much gave up on MTR because most the new DVDs I try to rip would not work. I've been using anyDVD in Windows XP (via Parallels). It works great, but I hate Windows and the process takes longer. I'm hoping MDRP is going to alleviate that. So far, looks like it! :)

CORPSECORPS  Does "works just as well" mean good or bad?

Currently Ripit will rip, but it's output is a disaster that most other apps choke on. Still waiting on the new owners to get it straightened out.

ECHOROB  The output file isn't a mess. Just right click show package contents and there you will find the Video_ts file that will work with any software. You can even go into the preferences and un select use dvdmedia extension and it will then produce a Video_TS file with no dvdmedia wrapper around it whuch will work with any software.

Mac dvdvripper pro work very similar to rip it I bought both apps and they both have worked 100%. If i as buying one app it would be mac dvdvripper pro simply because it is cheaper.

DRDUL  Wow! Mac DVDRipper Pro was able to successfully rip a DVD with a really bad scratch that neither RipIt, MTR 3.0 nor Handbrake could rip. The $10 price tag is a bargain compared to RipIt and MTR 3.0, especially given that Mac DVDRipper Pro was to rip a DVD that the others couldn't. I'm a very happy guy!

It's a minor detail, but I also like that Mac DVDRipper Pro saves the resulting rip as a package that opens with DVD Player by default, rather than a plain folder.

ROBOTANK  The free version of Mac the Ripper (2.6.6) is horribly outdated. The newer version (3.0, though it still hasn't been updated since Jan 08) can possibly be obtained by sending the developer a "gift" in an unspecified amount through his forums. Honestly, either this app or RipIt are better choices than Mac the Ripper at this point.

BOBVIOUS  Tried this for a DVD and was pleased with the result - a DVD package file (unlike the open source software out there).

I have four more rips before demo mode expires and will give another try tonight.

So far it works great. Recommend it to Mac users looking for something more useful than handbrake!
