OSP  It is my twitter client of choice.

Tweetie has found the one hand the sleek user interface and on the other hand a huge number of functions under the hood. Thus, as a newcomer to Twitter it does not stand in my way and as I'm growing up in Twitter it has the pro-tools at hand.

I highly recommend it to anyone using Twitter.

RBUGAJEWSKI  Best Twitter client for Mac OS X!

I searched a long time for the best Twitter client for Mac OS X and finally bought Twitter. Tweetie has a great, polished and focused UI and I can do everything I want. The multi-account support is implemented in a really great way (I’m a huge fan of the iconized sidebar) and the overall interaction is very intuitive.

I love the sophisticated keyboard shortcuts throughout the whole application. Another great feature is the conversation view that lets me easily follow a running conversation. Looking up user data and following / unfollowing is also a very easy procedure and something that I previously did only through Twitter’s web interface.

The last thing I like is the integrated image view for TwitPic etc. It not only looks nice, but it gives you also a fast and QuickLook-like interface whenever you need to view an image. It gets easily out of your way so you can continue to read newer tweets.

WRELEVEN  Since this has a menu-extra please allow for icon removal in the dock. Of course you'd need to include all the major menu function in the little menu-extra menu. I don't think this should live in the dock and the menu - pick one (the menu ;-) !

ITISTODAY  While the UI is pretty good (not great, it can be a bit confusing and non-inuitive, it took me about a minute to figure out how to post a tweet, "Oh, it's that tiny camouflaged button in the lower-left!), the fact that it doesn't support authentication for URL shorteners makes it unusable for me.

MICKSMAC  I paid for this, only to discover it has a huge drawback: unlike Nambu, it doesn't substitute shortened URLs, it simply truncates your whole tweet (adding a short new URL), effectively losing all text after the URL.

I have no idea why people rave about this client.

It is unusable for me. Do yourself a favor, go get Nambu for free.

LEWISH  While they obviously want to sell licenses, the unlicensed version is 100% exactly the same aside from some unobtrusive ads now and then. I have a feeling the license cost is a bit prohibitive intentionally - finding the most profitable intersection of ad revenue and license revenue.

WALRUSCP  $15-20 is pretty much the price point for higher end Twitter clients (e.g., Twitterific is $15). I bought Tweetie while it was on sale early on, and I have to say I like it for its simplicity and clean interface. I also love Eventbox, and pull that out when I am doing heavy lifting social networking (Google Reader, Twitter, Facebook, etc., etc.). Atebits should probably consider pricing Tweetie at $13-15 to directly compete with Twitterific. I think they'd find a lot of success in doing so.

ERIN_KIM  Love it, especially the animation when switching from timeline to mentions to messages to searches. Tweetie kind of has the feel of an iPhone application; perhaps, in fact, too much so.

WALRUSCP  Alright - Atebits fixed several bugs with 1.2.2!!

Now if they can just fix the problem where previewing shortened URLs ignores the preference option to open links is the background. Then we can start adding more features and make this a dream client.

WALRUSCP  Sorry for the second post, but I forgot the following for fixing requests:

1. Weak highlighting of selected tweets (Bring back the blue or give us a preference option to customize)

2. When we have the preference selected to dim previously read tweets, marking all as read should dim all the tweets - as of now it does not

3. Growl notifications - it's better, but still needs work on the issue with old tweets being announced as new when first loading the app

4. Avatar caching - every other client has fixed the issue with changed user avatars - Tweetie needs to stop showing blank avatars in these instances

5. See my comment above about the preview links issue

Just some of the major sticking points for the current Tweetie version that need to be addressed.

JOBBY  OK, so we have a choice between paying or viewing ads. Fine. But why, if I choose to view ads, does it ALSO nag me on startup that I haven't paid? There's a "buy now" button and a "remind me later" button, but there isn't a "shut the hell up, I *want* to use the ad-supported version" button.

At the moment Atebits are getting ad revenue from me. If Tweetie nags me again, they'll lose that and not recoup it in the form of a registration fee, because I'll be going back to Twitterific.

Respect your users, don't nag them.

GODY  I am bumping up my rating to 4 stars after using the app for a few days and realizing that the ad supported version is free.

I still feel that the price is steep for those people that want to support the developers.

(I would like to support their efforts but I do not think this price is right)

None the less, kudos to the team for designing and building this app. I am very impressed with the performance, quality of the UI and overall UX.

Great job guys, and hope to see continued support and updates.

Cheers,

KERNELPANIC  A good start but..

- give it the ability to use it just in the menubar instead making it running in both menu menu bar and dock at the same time

- wtf? no growl?! Unacceptable.

- menu bar icon looks like a plain black rectangle, which attracts too much attention. If it is based on the funny looking dock icon - fine, but cut it out inside or make it less opaque.

- Maybe reduce it in size just a bit? It takes too much space to be honest. Also Twiteriffic's twit posting window (hud style) looks sexier than the default mac style window.

DOUG S.  I played around with Tweetie for a little while in the hopes that it could replace my current client (Pwitter) but alas not yet for it is missing some features and won't implement others.

Before I get into why I won't be switching at this time let me start by saying that the adverts (you get them in the free version) are very few and far between. this can easily be used as a free client. It's also very fast and easy to use, though sometimes the UI gets a bit confusing and not everything is as clear as it could be.

Also it should be noted this app is visually gorgeous. They did a standup job creating the graphics.

However... As I alluded to already the UI is not clear in some cases and will take getting used to. Likewise some users will find the separate window for tweeting a little odd. A large number of users have expressed interest in the developers adding a way to tweet without leaving the window but the developers have stated they aren't going to be doing this, not now or at any point in the future. Given the volume of users asking for this and the response of the developers I started to question the wisdom of switching to an app where the developers aren't responsive to their community but instead only do what they see fit. It's an understandable position but since other apps' developers are more responsive to their users I see it as a strike against.

Of course at this time there is no Growl support, you can't save searches... A number of smaller features are currently missing. However, they are slated to be added.

Also, from what I hear, multi-user accounts doesn't seem to work very well.

Right now while this app has promise it's missing too many features and the developers don't seem to be as interested in what the community wants as I would like. That may not be an issue for some users, and most likely won't be, but for me it's very important and as such it's a deal breaker.

ZWEI  The good:

-Sleek/intuitive interface

-Decent feature list

-Global hotkey to send tweet at any time without bringing up the full window is GREAT!

-Native Cocoa (efficient resource handling)

-More features on the way!

The Bad

-Menubar icon simply acts as a new tweet indicator. (should be a badge on the icon instead)

-Can't disable dock icon (only reason this app should need a menubar icon)

-Can't tell the difference between read/unread tweets unless you actually scroll through them with the arrow keys ...simply scrolling with the mouse marks them as read, but doesn't change their appearance.

-Spacebar should act like it does in twitteriffic ..not like Safari (having to use the arrow keys instead of the spacebar makes me take my hand off the mouse)

-Price ...I'd buy it if it was $5-$10. $15? No thanks. $20? ...I think people are forgetting what kind of app we are talking about here. I'll stick with the ads.

WENTWORTH3  Tweetie hits the sweet spot between presenting a streamlined interface and providing clever twitter functionality. I really like tweetie for my iphone and am really enjoying tweetie for osx.

PARTHIBAN M  This app is good, in the sense that it doesn't run on Adobe's AIR platform like many of the other Twitter clients. It's built on Cocoa, so it has the smoothness and stability of a true OS X app. Visually it looks very sleek, and the animations are very minimal and well done. However, the price for the non-ad supported version is quite steep, considering feature wise this app fares poorly.

It doesn't have growl support, which would be very helpful for an app of this nature. Replying in a new (small) window away from the main app is kind of awkward at times, and it also is not possible to create themes for the tweet area, since the main tweet window does not use CSS styles. Overall, it's light on features, and heavy on the looks, but it is a 1.0, so there is time. Hopefully in future updates the app will become feature rich.

The free version is worth it though, the ads are non-intrusive and far and few in between. The paid version however, is not, so far.

GODY  I am really enjoying the interface and usability of the app. I like the fact that I can do a lot of things within the same window. It has been well thought out as far as providing different ways to consume tweets from different people all within one pane. I personally don't need multiple panes as my focus is on one thing at one time and the team has accomplished that quite well.

I will continue to evaluate the app but the reason I gave it 3 stars is because the price is too high. Great features but not for this price.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  People have been talking this up on Twitter for a while now. I do see their point, it is the "iChat" client of Twitter. For me however, it's seriously lacking. Everything is bunched into one window. The pane layout of TweetDeck and Nambu is much better. Additionally, no support for Trends, or customizable views. And charging $14.95 for something that although looks good is a very lightweight client in regards to it's features is rather greedy. Especially in this economy.
