OCTBIT Really love this application. Thunderbird was starting to stagnate and the Postbox developers have picked up that base and done something great with it. I also find it's a great replacement for Mail.app. The price may seem a little steep as people move more and more to web mail, but I happily paid it for the efficiency it affords. Good solid app with active developers. (Version 1.1b2)

PROGRAMHAPPY Developer, can you please add the option to sort all messages in the inbox by EMAIL ADDRESS, not just by "sender"? I run a business, and deal with hundreds of different customers every day. I need to sort by email address! Can you please add an optional "Email" column? You'll be my hero! I'm sure that countless other people would also appreciate this sorting option. If you add that option, I will buy the program immediately. Thank you! (Version 1.0.1)

TOFI postbox is the perfect tool to search for email that has needed information. That is the only reason I save emails after reading them. Postbox filters and directs emails to folders where I want them to go, whether to junk folder, or important information that I want to save. I could edit the titles to my needs. I could save emails as a conversation to follow up on certain subject. With this version, now I could move emails to different email accounts. I never could think that an email client could be so intelligent, stable and efficient as Postbox. I wish the price was lower, but this is the one that is practical for me. It is more appreciated as I pile hundreds of emails, and as it filters my junk emails. Not perfect ! I wish I could change the color of the dividers as Gyazmail does. but that is a minor issue compare to the many goodies this does well. (Version 1.0)

MKAY I was actually very happy with it and used it for almost a year. But the lack of transparency in the company's politics ("sure, it's free!" > "well it might be free" > "btw it's 40,-") is the main reason I went back to TB / Shredder. I have no problems paying for software I use but I don't use software I don't trust. IMHO they have focused too much on all that bells 'n whistles stuff (social bookmarks and stuff) than adding something that really sets it apart from Shredder. The GUI is nice but 40,- für a polished GUI of Mozilla Thunderbird? C'mon... (Version 1.0)

SHERMAN WILCOX It was absolutely worth $40 to me. Much more powerful, and reliable, than Mail. Great development team that responds fast as lightning to support questions. Incredible search function with tag system, lets me search for and instantly find attachments, links, images I've sent or received from people. Mail is an email application. Postbox is an email management system for power users. (Version 1.0)

JASON EMANUELSON All people want these days is free. Forget that something takes effort, or people want to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table just like you do. I am absolutely amazed just how selfish people have become. How would you feel if something you had spent years on and had bankrolled up front was shot down like you just did? To make it worse, you do so in such a public way. This is so typical of Mac users these days and one of the reasons Mac users get criticized. Whine and complain that the world is not giving you everything you want for free. Software that costs $40 that is integral to most people's lives, and then you have software like Adobe CS, which is on average $1300. How is $40 that expensive for something that helps communication, brings order and in general makes life easier not worth $40? People like this make me ashamed to use a Mac. (Version 1.0)

STILL_SPARKLING So I've gone back to Apple Mail and Entourage to try and get used to them again since Postbox will start charging for this app soon. I'm torn. One thing that Postbox does better than both Entourage and Apple Mail is Junk Mail handling (at least that's been my experience). It seems to have a more intelligent filter. Often times I'll email a web link to myself so I can read it later when I have more time; Entourage and Mail constantly send these emails from myself/to myself straight to Junk Mail. Even though the mail is from my own account, and no matter how many times I check "allow messages from this sender", they both Junk it. Postbox delivers the mail correctly every time. Another feature that Postbox has that the others don't is excellent editing. Threaded conversations are well laid out and it's easy to insert additional text into any portion of the email and re-send it, or save it and file it. The Searching capabilities of Postbox are also stellar and far outshine its competitors. However, one thing I really like about Apple Mail (that I keep hoping Postbox will emulate) is how it handles misspelled words. Sometimes your email program will think a word is misspelled because it's unusual, or a person's name, or not in the dictionary; YOU know the word is correct, but most mail apps will insist on stopping at the "misspelled" word until you either add it to the dictionary or click ignore. Apple's Mail will allow you to double click "send" and doesn't force you to interact with the spellcheck dialog box at all; it just assumes you know how to spell and sends it. It's very fluid and saves time. Every other email app that I've tried, including Postbox, botches this simple act by forcing you to deal with the spell check dialog box. Why? I'm knocking it down a star because it still has the bug of bolding your email account name (on the sidebar) to signify new messages have arrived, but when you click on the account, no new messages are there. The message(s) will show after you close and restart the app. Annoying. (Version 1.0b16)

KEN BURNS EFFECT The only ones who will tolerate this half Mac half Win user experience are FF users! Safari and Apple Mail fans can easily save 20 bucks on the introductory price and continue as before. Did I mention is is ugly, very non-mac and also buggy. At least fix the first time import function, give it som polish with help screens and so on. First it says Apple Mail mailboxes are imported but they are nowhere to be found. Import again and then no mail in the various boxes and clock (the old one from Classic Mac OS) spins forever. I had a hunch it would be unpleasant before downloading since I dont like FireFox. Get a Linux version out would make sense but in my opinion Post Box Inc won't make much money out of the Mac market. I will newer try this pice of half breed again (Version 1.0b15)

JOFALLON It does work. The tiny font in the GUI (probably a limit from Thunderbird) is pretty annoying for someone with a large monitor who prefers bigger fonts. Importing messages from anything but Thunderbird is really unpleasant. I have 100+ mailboxes I use for organizing the mail I keep - ten plus years of mail. The search feature is great, but importing mailboxes as raw messages one at a time - is crazy. The product is still in beta. Plenty of time for improvement. (Version 1.0b15)

STILL_SPARKLING Of all the available email apps on the Mac platform, Postbox, while still technically a beta product, stands head and shoulders above the rest. From its clean, well laid out interface to its innovative tabbed handling of messages, its quite obvious a lot of thought and care went into Postboxs development. Ive been using it since spring of this year and, other than the tiny fixed font size of the GUI, can find very little to criticize. Once you get it up and running with all of your accounts configured, it is a marvel to behold. Fast, stable, and polished. Postbox seems as if it incorporated every awesome feature of other email programs and added a few new twists of its own to make the Ultimate Email App. Power users who spend a lot of time in their email program will love this app. Me? Im on the fence. While I do have multiple email accounts, I dont consider myself a power user. I appreciate Postboxs superior organizational capabilites, but when Im handling my email, I want to get in and get out as quickly as possible. Postbox allows me to do this, but then again, so does Apples Mail, GyazMail, Entourage, Thunderbird and several of the other apps Ive used over the years. Postbox does it better, of course, but is that worth the $40.00 it will cost me for a single user license when it comes out of beta? In my case, the answer is no, but if you havent tried Postbox yet, you really should and decide for yourself. Right now while it's free, it can't be beat. (Version 1.0b15)

ROBOTANK I really like Postbox. For me, mail folders are out and tagging and archiving à la Gmail are in. I love the ability to have message filters automatically assign topics after which I can archive with a single keystroke. Messages are then automatically sorted and easily accessible by topic via the Favourite Topics part of the sidebar. Also, the way Postbox separates links and attachments (and now even allows QuickLook previews of attachments) is just awesome. The only thing that would prevent me from using Postbox permanently is a high price once it comes out of beta. I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't exceed the reach of my measly student budget. (Version 1.0b10)

JOACHIMR I never thought I had to look for an alternative to the (free) Mail on my Mac. Then I tried Postbox... if you are using Gmail (especially via IMAP) on your Mac, give this a try. It's much, much faster than Mail, does not mess around with your Gmail messages and the integration with online services such as Flickr and such is really well done. I also like the way it handles attachments and links - in general, it's much faster to find things in burried somewhere in your emails in Postbox than in Apple Mail. The killer feature, however, for me is the ability to tag emails (which can be done in Mail as well, but only with additional software). That said, if you need to find emails via Spotlight and directly link to individual emails, you won't be happy with this app. At least not now. The other problem is that it's a beta and if you don't want to expose yourself to the potential problems of a beta (might never make it to a full version, for example), this is something you should consider. In terms of crashes, though, I had to Force Quit Apple Mail MORE OFTEN than Postbox (never force quit it, actually). So much for "stability" of regular apps. But I strongly suggest giving it a try. Download it, index your mails, and you will see how fast it is. (Version 1.0b9)

THEBRIX2008 I used GyazMail for years but have ditched it for Postbox because real thought has clearly gone into how to handle large quantities of mail in new ways - which turn out to be better ways. My biggest problem with email is that I receive masses of attachments which, with other clients, remain trapped in the body of individual emails until they are laboriously saved, one by one, to disk; here the "attachment views" bring them out into lists inside the client, and QuickLook (new to 1.0b8) prevents useless attachments even having to be opened. Brilliant! Also, the grouping of conversations and tagging, although hard to explain, are again well thought through and better done than any client I have come across. If I were Mozilla I would stop developing Thunderbird and throw everything at Postbox; I feel that significant improvements are being made here to the whole concept of email. (Version 1.0b8)

MKAY I've been using it for a month now with my 5 IMAP accounts and I really like it. - it doesnt mess with your IMAP folders (like Mail does) - it has a slicker UI than Thunderbird - the 1-click archive feature - grouping conversations even if in different folders - smart usage of TB's "flag" feature for Todos all in all a (almost, it's beta) perfect mix between TB and Apple's Mail. I've had a few stability issues like being unable to delete messages. But hey it's beta and they're doing a good job supporting the app over at http://getsatisfaction.com/postbox. Oh and it's free. SHATFIELD I just set up Postbox with MobileMe and my employer's IMAP server (Exchange 2007). Both worked very well and I did not have a problem setting up the accounts. I was able to access all of my email on those accounts without doing anything special, and what was great was that I immediately had access to all of my Address Book contacts! I could create HTML emails, embed pictures, etc. It even has growl integration! If you would like to use Thunderbird but are turned off by the lack of the Native Address Book integration, then Postbox is your answer, and it is a very nice program as well! SHATFIELD Just to follow up on my initial review: 1) You cannot create a filter and filter by Message Content. This is a huge problem for me. 2) You cannot create a new Contact in the Mac OS X Address Book, it is read only. No problem, I just use Address Book to create contacts. 3) It is not aware of the content of a message like Mail.app is... dates are just more text, and you cannot highlight a date and create an iCal event from it like you can in Mail.app. Not that big of a deal. 4) No Spotlight integration. This isn't much of a problem, you just have to use their built in search mechanism. 5) Safari -> Mail Contents of Page doesn't work, but you can still mail the URL. 6) No support for HTML signatures, just plain text signatures. Not that big of a deal for me. 7) No "top level" Inbox. You have to check your different Inboxes (work, home, project, etc) separately. 8) It will likely be a paid application, where as Mail.app is free. This is what I've found so far. Other than these things, I am pretty happy with it. Most of these problems will be addressed in future releases, according to their forum. Keep up the great work, guys, and good luck!
