SYZZYGY Hmm.... the description here begins 'CleanMy Mac' (Lifetime License) and the price for this "lifetime license" on the page here is stated to be $14.95 while on MacPaw's website the price for a lifetime license is stated as $29.95 and the 6 month license is stated as $14.95. Would MacPaw care to explain this discrepancy? (Version 1.7.0)

AARGL Hummm! At the first try "the application quitted unexpectedly..." while analysing. The design is very nice and the features seem great, but when an app behaves this way at the first try, especially when dealing with system and apps modifications, I don't give a 2nd try. MACPAW All the posts, here or at other resources, are made by our users only. THUS.SPAKE.Z Well, the deceitful schmucks are at it once again. The developer and colleagues have, obviously, got their buddies to load MacUpdate with positive comments for their app. The commenters below, Mieze, Ausstan, Alexvovxhenko, Ivanoff, R397, Inemoss, all have no other comments or reviews posted on MacUpdate, no downloads(except for R397) and all have last log-in dates of between September 24th -27th, 2009. Personally, I have absolutely NO confidence in such ethically corrupt developers nor in their software. I absolutely DO NOT trust them. No doubt, personal integrity is a concept unknown to them. As far as I'm concerned, they can take their software and shove it up their bungholes! There's no shortage of quality maintenance apps offered by trustworthy developers from which to choose: Tinker Tool System, Cocktail, Onyx for example. (Version 1.6.1)

MACPAW Having read your comment, we appreciate the time you have spent analyzing all our posts. As I mentioned before, all the posts here are from our actual users - and we do sometimes give out licenses and request for comments, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Our users try our application, and seem to like it. We have proven our liability during the time - the number of our users keeps growing, and the work of our whole team is obvious. E.g. you can check your release notes :) (Version 1.6.1)

"and we do sometimes give out licenses and request for comments, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that." Really? Are you serious? There is nothing wrong with bribery? Isn't this the same thing Belkin did and was royally disciplined? Okay, sure they used money instead of giving away free Belkin stuff... so big difference huh... Give a shake at your moral compass. PSP What do you think are the best cleanup downloads out there? I really hesitate to use CleanMyMac based on Lokheed's review. (Version 1.5.3)
| Aug 25 2009 |
PSP Another quick comment: Lokheed or anyone else out there, what do you think of downloading Macaroni instead? it's been around for awhile and, as I understand it, just resets the auto cleanup program that won't run if you don't have your computer turned on in the middle of the night. I'm not sure, though, that they are still maintaining updates for this software. Any thoughts? (Version 1.5.3)

THUS.SPAKE.Z Two thumbs up for Macaroni. I've been using it for several years without a single issue; it works beautifully. True, it hasn't been updated since January '08, but then, does it really need one? It works like a Swiss watch....and what new features are needed? (Version 1.5.3)
| Aug 27 2009 |
PSP thanks thus.spake.z i've been playing around with Onyx which offers a few other features as well, but it seems a bit cumbersome. Macaroni is just so clean. Have you tried Onyx? (Version 1.5.3)

PSP Also does anyone have experience with macaroni and snow leopard? i hear that onyX is buggy with snow leopard. i suppose it would be great if snow leopard itself has a feature that takes care of the maintain/clean issues. (Version 1.5.3)
| Aug 27 2009 |
THUS.SPAKE.Z Onyx is good and, of course it's free. I'm a fan of Tinker Tool System. Been using that one for several years without any issues. It's now $16. And Leopard Cache Cleaner is no slouch. It's $10. TTS's and LCC's developers can be counted on to make their apps Snow Leopard compatible. They're quite on the ball. But Macaroni works automatically and works well, too. Good question about Snow Leopard compatibility, though. I just emailed the developer about it. And Onyx's developer is usually also right on the ball; I'd expect Snow Leopard compatibility pretty quickly. (Version 1.5.3)

THUS.SPAKE.Z LOL! Da, most of them appear to have Russian names and seem young...just like the developer and his staff. It seems that MacPaw & Co.(located in Kiev, Ukraine) have gotten their pals to post favorable comments about CleanMy Mac. I posted the following comment, here, on June 14th, '09...."Downloaded this but dunno how safe it is to use. CleanMyMac looks interesting but could potentially wreck my OS, and I don't need that aggravation. MacPaw's staff and developer(s) seem quite young and MacPaw has no track record. Don't know how responsible/reliable they are or how long they'll be around to support their software. Could become abandonware at some point? I think that I'll pass on this. Seems too risky. I don't feel at all comfortable about using it." I'd say that my Bullsht radar was quite right-on. I'd also say that MacPaw's integrity is questionable. Sorry, comrades! (Version 1.5.1)

NEOVEEXAN Fantastic app. First of this is the first of its kind that I'm using for a mac and it did exactly what its name implies. It clean my mac. To be precise 9 gigs of unnecessary space was cleaned off my 17" MacBook Pro HD. I'd say about 95 percent of that was getting rid of Universal Binary and Language support for my apps. That's 9 gigs. Pretty nice. Beautiful, very Mac and easy to use interface, fast, etc. I'm a very pleased customer and looking forward to what else this application can do for me. (Version 1.5)

ILUV This app is gorgeous! First of all because of plenty useful options like removal of language packs and extension's tails. And all in one app with user-friendly mac-styled interface. ZO219 You do realize, not everything this or any cache-zapper deletes is meant to be deleted any old time you think of it. Try MainMenu and delete your browser caches (which you don't even need if you're on broadband.) This app goes to far in several directions ... and it's $20? Better you should spend your money on something intelligent, maybe Leopard Cache Cleaner (bad name, it does a whole lot more.) (I am not connected to them.) What do I use? Some of the functions of MainMenu daily, MacPilot, Cocoa Cookies, and I look thru ~/Library/Caches and ~/Library/Logs myself. Also /Library/Logs - but those caches, leave alone. (Version 1.0.1)

HM_HMM Customers are expected to pay $20 for a six month software license? May I suggest a name change to "CleanMyWallet" instead? Also find it rather odd that the very same day this app shows up on MUPromo, the reviews go from a single one-star rating to a one-star rating and three five-star ratings, two of which have since been removed. Seems a bit fishy. (Version 1.0.1)

LOKHEED Absolutely HM. Thank goodness for the ability to rate each comment/review... I see that the licensing now includes a "lifetime licence" of a decade... how generous of the developers... but I still have to wonder what the point is? Do we really need an end cap on the licence? Can I buy my copy of Mac OS X Leopard for 60 years instead of 50? I mean, come on... (Version 1.0.1)

SOFIUX The 6 months issue was a misunderstanding, we meant to sell the lifetime from the beginning. About the ratings, we do not control it, so have nothing to do with it. We invested a lot of time on our software, and guarantee the best customer support, as I said before, that is the main difference between a free and a paid software. (Version 1.0.1)

PROREADER CleanMyMac finds much more trash files than other utils (e.g. AppZapper, Onyx). And it's really easy to use. (Version 1.0.1)

ROY VAN DER WONING Interesting observation. Can you name an example so I can verify this? (Version 1.0.1)

PROREADER For example Toast Titanium or Journler. For Toast Titanium CleanMyMac Found 4 files: Toast.app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.roxio.Toast.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.elgato.VideoPlayer.plist, ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items/ToastIt.plugin AppZapper Found only 2 files: Toast.app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.roxio.Toast.plist For Journler CleanMyMac Found 4 files: Jounler.app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.phildow.jounler.plist, /Library/Contextual Menu Items/JonlerCMI.plugin ~/Library/PDF Services/Save PDF to Jounler.app AppZapper found 3 of them: Jounler.app, ~/Library/Preferences/com.phildow.jounler.plist, ~/Library/PDF Services/Save PDF to Jounler.app So as I think CleanMyMac is much more comprehensive than at lease AppZapper. LOKHEED What is this? The first program made by Nazis? a) You can't buy a copy. You licence them based on 6 month, 1 year, and 2 year contracts. After that, your licence expires and you are left with a worthless program. Licensing is grossly overpriced too boot. $20 for a 6 month licence? I have a feeling many customers aren't going to catch the this and be plenty upset when their time's up. b) The demo is worthless. Tried to remove some cache files (that I ended up doing manually with 4 clicks) and it spit out a warning: You only have 200.0 left. 200 what? KBs? Because the files summed up to a whopping 86 MBs. Moreover, the program lists items as Kb and Mb... what am I slimming? KiloBYTES or Kilobits? Because they are very different... Sloppy coding. c) The program duplicates many free or far less expensive alternatives, but adds nothing of its own. The interface is tired, plain, and generally mundane. The features are lackluster and unlike XSlimer, provides no guard against rendering your program useless. Thank goodness for Apple's Time Machine. All in all, the price is the biggest failing. A way to milk the consumer without really giving back much. The features are boring and old. The delivery hackneyed and tired. Look elsewhere folks... there is absolutely nothing to see here! GRAFIQDESIGNER81 I have been using Xslimmer for about a year and a half (about as long as I've had my Macbook) and it seems to be very careful about what it does knowing that some programs do not function well when architecture code is wiped from them. Some programs are automatically blacklisted by the app...perhaps the developers know enough not to mess with these. At anyrate, I use Xslimmer pretty often...especially when I've had a productive week of installing various apps from websites like this one. However, CleanMyMac seems to have found a ton of programs that I thought were slimmed down as far as they could go. So when I ran a scan with Xslimmer and nothing showed up...so I unchecked "ignore unslimmable apps" and scanned again. This time all the same apps popped up...but they were blacklisted or all slimmed down...meaning if you used CleanMyMac to "slim" them down...they might not work well (or at all) and CleanMyMac doesn't tell you this could affect the applications negatively when you perform the process. I'd be very careful with this app. Either CleanMyMac is actually doing a better, more thorough job of slimming than Xslimmer, or it's doing a more reckless job of slimming than Xslimmer. I don't think I'll be the guinea pig for that experiment. I have enough problems with my computer at the moment to try and figure that one out. (Version 1.0)

PALADINO Judging from the pricing on the developer's website, the CleanMyMac app. Cannot be purchased outright; one purchases a license to use it.....$19.95 for 6 months use, 29.95 for 1 year's use and $49.95 for 2 years use. It also states, there, that there's a 50% discount currently available, but when tallying up the license fee, the discount price is not reflected, Anyway, I'd say that the licenses are overpriced so I'll pass on this. Should be only $19.95 to purchase the app with no license fee involved. Clean My Mac seems pretty handy and useful as well as being easy to use but it cost's too much at its current price point.
