MARTINRH  v1.4 runs (OS10.5.8) but doesn't login to FB even though I am logged-in in Firefox. Preferences either greyed out or won't open so no means of telling the app the login details. Caused a couple of crashes on quit.

SCOTT.GARDNER  1. I customized some of the settings for matched contacts (e.g., zoom/crop) but did not sync.

2. I went over to the unmatched list and added them as new contacts.

3. I then went back to the matched list, and my custom settings were still visibly displayed.

4. I synced the matched set, and the custom settings were not applied.

5. I redid the custom settings, and then they synced fine.

SCOTT.GARDNER  Appears to work fine. I had one glitch with my custom settings not being applied the first time, but I redid it and it worked fine the second time.

MEEGO  You know what would rock VERY seriously?

A sync tool supporting:

- social websites (Facebook etc)

- email/calendar websites (Gmail, Yahoo, Zimbra)

- local social software suites (OSX's Address Book & iCal, Thunderbird, etc)

- Exchange

Imagine a one-click solution to sync profile icon, info, status for you and everyone else, plus calendar syncing.

I think I'd be ready to pay more than 50€ for that.

AddressBookSync does already a lot with Address Book - Facebook. But the concept can reach much further.

SIMENSV  Works as described except that it pulls down the low resolution thumbs, not highest resolution pics as described (1.1.1.). Especially when cropping, low-resolutions thumbs are insufficient.

DAVEYOLA  this worked PERFECTLY as of 12/8/08 on version 1.1.1 - photos synched up and correctly ignored the ones i told it to ignore, and it pulled in all sorts of birthdays...

the only bummer - and this has got ZERO to do with the dev - if a contact is set to show only a birthday without a year, as many folks do, then all of them come up as 2008

perhaps the ability to change that to -minus 15 or 20, assuming most facebook users are at least 15 or 20 years old??

NSTANOSHECK  Even though I login to my account it syncs with my daughter's account. She uses Safari, i use Firefox. As such, it makes this worthless to me.

DAUCLAIR  Are you logged in as the user into the mac or is it your daughter's account? The program only syncs to the address book of the person currently logged in. Firefox vs. Safari should have nothing to do with it, whatever Facebook email/password you log in with will sync with the mac Address Book of whoever is logged in.

NSTANOSHECK  My daughter is logged in in Safari, but Safari is not open. I am logged in in Firefox and when the app, asks me to log-in, I log in as me, even though it brings up her account first (in a webkit auto-fill maybe?). Even though I sign in as myself the title bar clearly shows it is her account and the friends listed shows me the same. :-(

DAUCLAIR  That's a really strange issue, sorry you are having trouble. I've tried replicating it but I'm unable to do so. I had another friend log into Facebook in Safari and used the Remember Me checkbox to save a cookie. I then closed Safari and ran AddressBookSync. My friend email started in the username field (this is to be expected) because the Facebook cookie was saved, but when I cleared it and put in my login info it showed my username in the title bar and my friend list.

I'm using the MkAbeFook framework for OS X to handle all of the Facebook login detals and API calls (http://pointlesscrap.net/mkabefook/). I'm trying to looking into any known issues with Safari cookies using this framework, but I haven't found anything yet.

Just as a test have you tried choosing Reset Safari... under the Safari menu to clear the cache/cookies and then run AddressBookSync and logged in?

Anyone else having similar issues with Facebook cookies in Safari?

NSTANOSHECK  I found a fix for me. I uninstalled Safari completely (by using AppCleaner.app) and then reinstalled it, and then AddressBookSync 1.1.1 would let me sync with my own Facebook account.

DAUCLAIR  Just put out a 1.1.1 update which fixes the bug which caused the program to crash on startup for users of 10.4. I'm sorry that got overlooked, I will be sure to test on Tiger before new releases from now on.

THREEDEE912  I know, It's annoying how Facebook is sending takedown notices to any kind of app that syncs email addresses, screen names, or phone numbers (see: FacebookSync, FriendCSV, Plaxo). It's almost impossible to export any useful contact info from FB, without doing copy/pasting everything manually.

ROBERT  Reading the changelog for 1.1, it appears that the author is incorporating much of what I imagined was lacking in 1.0, to make an app as powerful as FacebookSync, but in an easier-to-use Mac-like interface.

There's one more feature that is new for 1.1, however. Crash on launch. (G3, 10.4.11)

DAVIDE RIVOLA  Good software. Another suggestion is to show also the actual image on Address Book, this will help to choose which one is better!

ELROD AX  Great idea, fairly well executed.

One suggestion: Add birthday sync as a separate column, with check boxes, instead of a global preference. Often, I want to add birthday data without replacing the contact's photo, which was already in my address book. Choosing which data one wants to sync would be a big improvement to an already good application.

BUGDAVE  Works very well! This program saves me the awkwardness of always asking to take someone's picture with my phone. I look forward to updates with additional features and improved name matching.

DAUCLAIR  I only put down Intel down because I don't have a PPC Mac to test it myself with. I believe it should work fine on either Intel or PPC as long as its 10.4+, would be interested for any feedback if you try it.

GLOBETROTTERDK  It seems to work fine on my G5 single (PPC) with Leopard 10.5.5. Any chance that would consider expanding this app so that it syncs Facebook contacts with Address Book?

DAUCLAIR  If you are asking about syncing phone numbers and emails, there is not a good chance of the app ever doing that. The Facebook Development Platform Terms of Service prohibit accessing these through the API. Right now profile pictures and birthdays seem like the only logical thing that would be useful to sync between Facebook and Address Book.

GLOBETROTTERDK  Interesting. I have found an iPhone app that adds Facebook contacts to the Address Book, as well as their current profile pictures. I wonder how they are able to do it?

CHAS_M  Sheer unmitigated GENIUS!!

The only suggestion I have for this app is to expand the window to show what picture (or lack of picture) is CURRENTLY in the Address Book so that people can decide if the FB pic is a better or worse choice.

Otherwise perfect!

Fast, uncomplicated. Love it!
