PICON  Version 2 is out, but not updated here on MU. The price has increased by double... from $14.95 listed here to $30!!! Outrageous if you ask me.

KHANNIBAL  I feel worried to have to uninstall Safari 4 Beta to get the registration step complete. Your app crashes because of Safari 4, and the only things to do is... come back to Safari 3.

Don't you think the customer has anything else to do but reinstalling softwares and restarting computers to get your software to work ?

I do not have time for this, I'll wait you fix this problem by yourself. :)

PocketMac RingtoneStudio 1.0

I got this app from the MacHeist 2009 Christmas Giveaway and it's a little buggy, featureless and crippled.

1) You cannot upgrade this version to 1.1. You have to purchase the 1.1 version just to get the bug fixes. Downloading the 1.1 demo does not give you 1.1 features or fixes.

2) You cannot set the preferences, it is greyed out. I guess because this was given out for free.

3) You cannot make fine adjustments. You need to use the mouse to move the slider. This causes the seconds to jump from 1.5 to 3 seconds or anything in-between. If you are trying to get the ringtone to start at a particular point, good luck with that. Let me know when the frustrations and annoyances set in.

4. The length of the ringtone can only be a maximum of 29 seconds but the iphone will accept a maximum length of 40 seconds.

5) It messes up the display once in a while where 1/3 of my display would be washed out with colour streaks. Too bad I can't upload a pic to show you. Only way to fix this is through a reboot.

6) There is no option to check for or download updates. Is this how the company does business where every time a point update comes out you have to pay them again?

7) Use GarageBand. It's free. Let's you make a ringtone up to 40 seconds. It can be updated with bug fixes. It's more customizable. You can make fine adjustments, at least to the half-second mark and so far has not painted my screen with colour streaks.

I've used PocketMac for Blackberry and that was buggy as well. Always crashed at the beginning of the sync but it would not bring down the app, gave you a chance to ignore it and continue.

This app is no different by washing out the screen and forcing a reboot to fix. Having to pay for a point update is a no-no in my books or is it because they gave it away for free?

Still, if this was a way to get me try the product and then pay for 1.1 then the developers missed the mark. To make a ringtone in GarageBand is no more difficult than using RingtoneStudio and you get the added bonus of bug fixes, finer adjustments and setting preferences.

In fact I was able to make a ringtone faster in GarageBand because I wasted a lot of time in RingtoneSudio trying to figure out how to do fine adjustments, finding out it can’t be done and getting more frustrated at the lack of controls.

It’s a simplistic app with simplistic controls but there are too many negatives to make this a buy or even to use it for free.

NATE HOULE  Sweet app! Does exactly what it says. Straight forward, easy-to-use drag and drop interface. Very quick, only 1 step, 2 if the length of the file exceeds 30 seconds. You can preview and edit everything from within the app. I like that I don't need to have my iPhone plugged in and that the ringtones are automatically added to my 'Ringtones' list in iTunes. Feels nice and light, overall great 1.1 release. No crashes or bugs, running 10.5.5 on a MBAir. Keep up the good work!

MULTIMAGO  I've tested this tool a lot befor purchase.

I'm very happy to use it, very simple and useful.

You can import a lot of files and other apps can't do the same thing.

GLOBETROTTERDK  I have been looking at the reviews of other PocketMac here on MacUpdate and decided to change my rating as all of the reviews complain of crashing apps, CPU use maxing out and lack of any response from the developers.

GLOBETROTTERDK  PocketMac's RingtoneStudio has probably the most logical feature set of any iPhone ringtone utility. It is a joy to use as no other program is needed for editing sound files. Having said that, RS has some serious problems. iTunes 7.7.1 tends to crash with OS X Tiger (PPC).

RS seems to dump ringtones from other 3rd. party programs such as iToner and reset the iTunes preferences. It also dumps (disapears) ringtones installed with iToner on the iPhone, despite not syncing.

I can't really explain why RS does what it does to screw things up, but it happens everytime I have tried to use RS. Too bad, the app could be rated as 5 star if PocketMac got these issues ironed out.

THEMACJEDI  I've tried all of the ringtone makers and made a few myself with Garageband but none of them make it as easy as RingtoneStudio. I prefer the way it makes actual ringtone files that I can easily transfer to other computers.

For instance my daughter wants Peanut Butter Jelly Time as here ringtone, so I download it from YouTube with VideoBox and drag the video file onto RingtoneStudio, select my 30 seconds section or less and click Done to create the ringtone file which goes directly into iTunes Ringtone folder.

Converting audio files is just as easy or easier if you already have them somewhere on your computer.

Not compatible with DRM files, you could convert them first.
