DOUG ENGELBART  Absolutely does what it says. Just one problem: "Launch at login" is functioning only when I re-login (when I logout and then login), but when I restart (reboot) my OSX.5.8, then MenuEclipse is running without darkening the menu bar. In this case I always must open the MenuEclipse application and click onto the blue "Eclipse Amount" slider so that it works.

COTTSER  This is an almost perfect replacement for MenuShade, the main thing missing is an application exclusion list, so that you can disable menu dimming in certain programs, especially ones where you use the menu bar a lot, i.e. Photoshop.

SIMONM  Unless you can change the colour of text labels in the menu bar, there really isn't much point in darkening it as you're just reducing contrast and making it harder to read. If you want a dark theme you really need lighter text to make it work...

SIMONM  PS If you really like a dark theme and don't mind your colours being screwed up, there's a really easy way to get it without any applications or any risk to the system...simply invert the screens colours! I really like it except for when I have to do anything with colour...

Simultaneously press Cmd+Ctrl+Optn+8

Try it!

DNEM41  This is a good application, but I want it to do better. I feel like if enough people use this, the developer will have to add new features users want.

First, I'll give it 5 stars because it's the best thing out there that works with Leopard. Menufela & Menushade I hear good things about for people who don't have Leopard. BUt apparently these apps will cause the blue screen of death and the developers haven't done anything to update it yet. I can hope hope the developers are reading this right now.

One thing I like is the ability to customize the level of "blackness". This is pretty much the only thing it does and sort of the only thing I was looking for.

But now that I've used it, a few ideas came to mind. I would like more options, like the ability to hide it (just like hiding the Dock). I know this is vastly different and requires different code from just covering it up. So a huge thanks to the developer if he can update this with that function.

Also, I currently have the app in my Dock for easy access. However, I would like to have it in my menu bar (ironic isn't it) to avoid taking up more space in my Dock. In essence, I would like it to be in the background. I don't wanna know it's there.

I'm going to keep this app until I find something better, but hopefully the developers will update this with more features before Menufela or MenuShade update their apps for Leopard.

EASER  Seems to work fine, with pretty much the features you'd need. Thanks for this.
