ENKAYTEE Thanks for the reply Joris... I'll e-mail you separately, but I'm using Snow Leopard (v10.6.2). In the language settings, English is above Deutsch, and at the top of the list. It's only the icon text that is in German - I'll send a screenshot to your e-mail address. (Version 5.8)

JORIS VERVUURT Next time, please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl if you have any problems. That way, it is easier for me to help you with any problem. It seems that you are using a non-English version of Mac OS X (probably Tiger). Follow the steps below to change the German (or Dutch) translation back to English: - Launch "System Preferences" - Go to "Language & Text" - Make sure that "English" is above "Deutsch" and "Nederlands" by dragging the name iTubeX Ultimate should then be translated in English. I will take a look at the extension problem you're having, but it seems to be related to Mac OS X Tiger only. (Version 5.8)

ENKAYTEE I like where this app is going, but I've noticed a couple of small issues: 1. Not a big deal, but the main options in the preference dialog are in German(? - sorry - I'm not great with languages!) 2. When a 'flash' file is downloaded it is named xxx.mp4.flv - even though in the 'download' dialog the name is just xxx.mp4. If I delete the flv extension, it still seems to be a 'standard' mp4 file.

PETER_EARTHMAN Duo test with iTube Grabber and iTubeX Did several tests with both utilities and this is what I came up with: * Both capture most stream videos with no problems from the leading video sites. * Both can convert the downloaded flv videos to several codecs. However, iTube Grabber can do this automatically and without the need to install 3th-party packs. iTubeX needs the Perian pack to do this. Not a big deal but some people do not like to install extra stuff. Worth mentioning. * Both have a very good integrated browser detecting a full acid test. * I like the iTube Grabber interface more then the dull Safari like iTubeX. It goes without saying this is a personal preference. * iTube Grabber has a neat stream history. Incredibly handy to catch hidden streams on some pages. This said, multi streams on one page is not very common but if it is there you can make the best of it. iTubeX does not feature this. * iTubeX does not have a visible indication if there is a stream found. iTube Grabber tells the user this by a red grab button. * iTube Grabber lacks a browse history. * iTube Grabber has a "true" OS X interface. iTubeX has some issues (no correct Safari button behavior, no correct preference window, no correct about window, refreshing does not work correct - you have to press it twice, there is no shortcut to close windows and some more tiny bity annoyances) * iTubeX has multi language support. iTube Grabber not. Both utilities do what they advertise namely grabbing videos and they both do a very good job. iTube Grabber has a advantage of doing some operations automatically such as converting, a stream history and having a "true" OS X interface. This gives iTube Grabber a small overall advantage for me. iTube Grabber is still in beta so I guess we can expect some more improvements. Therefore it is fair to rate iTube Grabber one star more then iTubeX. (Version 5.6)

JORIS VERVUURT Thank you very much for your valuable review! This way, I know what I can improve to make iTubeX Ultimate even better. Just a quick note: the fact that you need to press the refresh button twice is odd. It's even more odd because you have to double-click it only when you're on YouTube. I will definitely take a look at it. Also, I will try to give iTubeX Ultimate a "true" OS X interface. Could you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl and tell me what you exactly mean with "no correct Safari button behavior" and "some more tiny bity annoyances"? The fact that there is no shortcut to close windows is because there is only one window. Anyway, thanks again for your valuable review. (Version 5.6)

KBALLARD54 I downloaded iTubeX several versions ago and I loved it immediately! It's simple and easy to use. It just works!! Before iTubeX, I tried several other shareware and freeware programs but it seemed none of them worked consistently. After downloading iTubeX my search was over. The latest version (v5.5) is incredible! The on-going customer support and inclusion of customer feature requests is continual. As YouTube and others update their websites iTubeX adapts to their changes. For only $7.50, this program is a bargain! My advice to anyone looking for a clean method of downloading ANY embedded video... look no further than iTubeX!! (Version 5.5)

BLABLABLA@DODGIT.COM I wanted something that would download music videos from mtvmusic.com. Alas, this only downloads the commercial that appears *before* the music video starts. I thought about writing the developer and asking to have this fixed. However, his site states, "I will not purposefully allow iTubeX Ultimate to download copyrighted videos, .swf and .mp3 files." I respect his/her moral compass, but I'll not be purchasing this app. :-( (Version 5.5)

DRDUL Joris (the developer) has been very responsive, and has incorporated a few of my suggestions into version 5.5, including the ability to save PNG images and the gear button to save my mouse the long trip to the menu bar. iTubeX is a great video downloader, and is also a good browser. The ability to easily exchange URLs with Safari (another feature that is accessible through the gear button) helps make it even easier to use. An excellent app! (Version 5.5)

DRDUL I just purchased iTubeX Ultimate, and was pleased to discover that it can save web pages as JPG images. This was an unexpected bonus, as I have been looking for a good app to save web pages (I used to use Web Snapper as a Safari plug-in, but can't with 64-bit Safari in OS X 10.6). Every other web-page-saving app I tried requires that I drag a URL into it, which doesn't work for web pages that display financial information or UPS tracking results, for example. Because iTubeX is a browser, I can navigate to a web page to display the information I want, and then grab a shot of the complete page as a JPG. I've asked the dev if he could add support for saving pages as PNG images, so hopefully that feature will be added. (Version 5.4)

Screengrab will even save just the contents of an individual frame." (Version 5.5)

DR. GIRLFRIEND Previously, I used a Greasemonkey script on Firefox to download from YouTube, but if you're not careful, Greasemonkey scripts can become unwieldy and lead to memory leaks. Since, to me, troubleshooting memory leaks on Firefox holds about as much appeal as watching reality television, I prefer to use iTubeX on Safari for YouTube downloads and keep my Firefox addons as light as possible. This app is worth the money, especially since you can now also download mp3s. Solid 5 stars. (Version 5.3)

MACUPYEARS This is the first video download prgram which has actually downloaded what I wanted when I wanted it. This may say a lot about my video download skills, but a lot more about the application. It is almost idiot proof, well presented, and with simple, effective help. I was having a problem with getting double download traffic from YouTube. I contacted the developer who immediately looked into it. Although it is more of a YouTube problem, he provided an immediate workaround, and has promised to look at a permanent solution. You can't ask better than that. All for a very reasonable price. GLW This program makes it very easy to download videos from YouTube. And because you can also view and search for videos within the program , there is no need to flip back and forth between YouTube and some download utility -- as soon as you find something you like, just click "Download" and the downloading starts quickly and smoothly. I have been using iTubeX Ultimate for some time as my downloader of choice, and until lately it worked flawlessly. Then something must have changed, because version 5.0 suddenly would not download ANYTHING for me. However, the developer got right onto the problem, and very shortly version 5.1 was released, correcting all the difficulties and adding other improvements as well. Five stars for customer service!! Well worth the modest investment! (Version 5.1)

Roger Katz let me know that there was no link to the iPatch for iTubeX Ultimate and iConvertX on this page. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/31166/ipatch-for-itubex-ultimate-and-iconvertx It will replace the default transparent .flv icon with a nice QuickTime-like icon! Another thing: I can almost assure that the next version of iTubeX Ultimate will have a completely re-written core-engine. This means that you will no longer have to manually choose the correct source of the video that you want to download. Almost all websites that currently cannot be found in the 'select source' menu of iTubeX Ultimate 5.0, will be automatically recognized by the next release of iTubeX Ultimate! Earlier, when I attempted to download the zip file all I got was an html file which, when clicking on it took me back to the MacUpdate page. I asked the developer to send me a working download and he did so within 20 minutes. Now that's outstanding customer service! My license code was automatically accepted; I already had the previous iTubeX Ultimate version installed and didn't have to enter the code # myself. GO2WEB Decided to download iTubeX Ultimate 4.4 to update an earlier version. I discovered that I needed a new serial number - the instructions were to email the author. "Great", I thought, "This will take weeks". But NO! I received a reply within minutes from Joris (on his iPod Touch) explaining he would send me the updated serial number within a couple of hours. An hour later I received the updated serial. Version v4.4 is, again, stable and does exactly what it says. I really like the modern GUI touches, like the status bar drop down window etc. It has a small CPU footprint, even on a PowerBook G4 12" 1.5 GHz. This is the best way to save .mp4 and .flv content off the web. Kudos and accolades to the developer - a role model to other developers for how to look after paying customers. (Version 4.4)

MACUPDATE ADMIN I just now downloaded the file (using Safari Version 3.1.1 (4525.18) in 10.4.11) with no issues. I access the MU server(s) just as anyone would, nothing special. (Version 3.7)

CHUCK9 I have to say, 'This is the best program of this nature for me". I am not into this field at all but am being forced into it by the tide & momentum of its use. That being said, I have asked a number of questions from this developer and got instant replies with help tips and friendliness. I started using "iTubeX" as beta and to this rise in greatness. I own ,probably 4 or 5 of these and they are useful but . . . I don't know, just not this friendly enough for this old fella. It sits on my desktop and will stay there.

DOM21 I'm going to hold off rating this on the chance I'm overlooking something. In the URL field I entered http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail195.html Since that's neither YT or Google I selected "Other site..." (which doesn't give you the option to say where the site is. It just remains "Other site..."). According to the directions the next thing to do in this instance is select "Download.. as a .flv file" I click but it stays grayed out. Clicking Open URL does nothing. So, what's the story? (Version 3.3)

JORIS VERVUURT Well, it seems like the page is not supported. The page uses another method to display the movies. I will try to make it possible to download videos from that site too. (Version 3.3)
| Jun 23 2008 |
JORIS VERVUURT In this new version (3.7) the page with the video you tried to download is now SUPPORTED! (Version 3.7)
| Jun 5 2008 |
BrightCove.TV is already supported. I tested it and it works just like Google Video etc. Or do you mean I have to add it to the list here on MacUpdate?

SYHARRIS Well, iTube really rocks! It's a pleasure use, it's smooth and it's stable....I'm so pleased with it. I have a really good feeling about this developer, Joris Vervuurt; he's demonstrated that he's sharp, highly motivated to do excellent work, very attentive to details and very responsive to user input, all the earmarks of a real pro. I predict great things for him. More software developers should be as good as he is. (Version 2.6)

JORIS VERVUURT AYUB, i'm sorry but it seems like you're one of the few people who can't use my application because of it doesn't work. I'm also using Mac OS X 10.5.3 and it works just fine, as you mentioned your internet connection isn't that fast, that might be your problem. I will download xCode and try the new (cleaner) interface. (Version 2.6)

AYUB If handy and needs cleanup please do that cleanup and then post to MU. Testers need not be Mac Developers. Thanks. I wanted to use this app since long time but had no luck. Using Leopard 10.5.3, latest update. (Version 2.51)

EDIFIED Works well. I see this is a RealBasic App. If you have interface builder (xCode 3) installed check this out: iTubeX Interface.zip. It's a much cleaner interface! I'm guessing you can implement something like that in RB or you might switch over to xCode! I don't imagine it would be too difficult to move to xCode. [Anyone] Feel free to use and/or modify my .nib with or without attribution. This is a VERY handy app, just needs to be cleaned up a bit. Cheers, Ed (Version 2.51)

AYUB Man, just the message changed, now shows a generic message. But the same problem like b4. Even after the full video is downloaded i clicked Download and it says the same as b4. Thanks. I'm not gonna try it anymore. (Version 2.51)

SYHARRIS There's a possibility that your download problem could be browser related, for some reason. You might try downloading using different browsers. While I had no problem downloading iTubeX 2.51, I did try downloading it with Safari 3.3.1, Firefox 2.0.0.14, Camino 1.6.1, Opera 9.50.4789, Flock 1.2b and iCab 4.4.1....all latest versions. I couldn't get a download with iCab, but no problem with the others. (Version 2.51)

SYHARRIS Oops! I meant the above reply for NYCMAC's problem, below, not yours....sorry. Btw, I've downloaded both .mpv4 files as well as .flv files using iTubeX 2.51 and have not experienced the issues that you describe. I've got a broadband connection and the downloads are smooth and reasonably fast. Both files then play without problems, for me, using VLC Media Player. Possibly your problem is a result of your slow internet connection. (Version 2.51)

JORIS VERVUURT I'm almost releasing version 2.5. I also updated that text, so if you click the Download button for the .FLV file you wont get a message that the .mp4 is not available. (thanks for that!) Well, if you have a slow internet connection, it might be better to wait until the whole movie has loaded. Please tell me if it works now. (Version 2.4)

AYUB Also please check why it says the clip may not be available as .mp4 even if i click to save as flv? The app is cool looking but not functional for me. I don't know about others. Thanks (Version 2.4)

AYUB I tried again. This time waited some longer. How long i will have to wait b4 clicking Download button? My Internet connection is not that fast. You tell me to wait until the whole video clip is loaded? Thanks (Version 2.4)

AYUB No luck still. The same it says as b4. Anyway I'll try this app later. For now i'll use some other apps for downloading youtube videos. Thanks. (Version 2.4)

FUNKYJUDGE Thank you. A vast improvement over the last version. Downloads are very quick. It actually completes the download before YouTube finishes loading. Plus it doesn't open iTunes when it finishes downloading which i like. Look forward to future updates. (Version 2.0)

Here it is, the new version of iTubeX! There are a lot of bugfixes, it has a new improved GUI and Videos are now downloading faster! For all the people who got the 'Something went wrong, please try again' message: Please wait a little longer before clicking the Download button. I also added a Donate button in the application. If you like iTubeX, please donate for further developments.

FUNKYJUDGE My first download went OK but each subsequent time I've tried to download a YouTube clip i get a message "something went wrong please try again". Any idea what the problem is? I like that the MP4 file isn't added to iTunes automatically after the download. I hate when tubsock does that. (Version 1.0)

This probably happens because the YouTube page hasn't finished loading. Please wait a little longer before pressing the Download button. Anyway, in about an hour there will be a new version of iTubeX (Version 2) on MacUpdate. Maybe that version will solve your problem.

ZZZ Let me be the first to say THANKS - works GREAT on my Intel Aluminum iMac (2007). I also appreciate the inclusion of file conversion within the application. And I REALLY appreciate the price!!! Great work and thanks again. Finally a replacement for that P.O.S. TubeSock... (Version 1.0)

JORIS VERVUURT Thanks for downloading my application! If you used it, I'd appreciate it if you give some feedback (if it works etc.)! Currently, I'm working on iSuiteX, an application which will be able to: - Speed up Mac OS X (new version of iSpeedX!) - Download YouTube videos (new version of iTubeX!) - Encode webpages and create advanced META-TAGS (new version of WebSuiteX!) This version of iSuiteX will probably be on MacUpdate
