ICONZ113 Evernote has been very useful to me. I use it to capture information including snippets of text from websites, bookmarks, emails, pictures, create notes, I also utilize the OCR technology that is implemented when notes are synced, this comes in handy when doing research for school assignments. One thing I don't use it for, is file organization. All of my documents I keep organized with folders. One reason I don't keep all my documents in EN is because I'm concerned about having certain documents online, also Evernote's ability to export to the format the file was when it was imported can sometimes be difficult or tricky. I feel I have more control when organizing my files and documents manually. I think of evernote as an "everything else" organizer. Other then that I think EN is a great application. Another plus is its ability to keep all your notes synced with all your computers and the iphone client is pretty cool too. The only issue I have with Evernote is the EN helper thats added to login items every time you start the application. When I manually remove the helper from login items it adds itself the next time the application is started. Not that big of a deal I just like keeping login items to a minimum. Evernote also features a web clipper browser plugin, making it easier to clip and save information while browsing. (Version 1.5.2)

DLWHITE I've tested Evernote periodically, but it's never been compelling for ONE SIMPLE REASON: It doesn't let you manually order your notes (like in iTunes playlists.) A simple program like MyNotes will let me order my notes, but Evernote won't? WTF? iTunes has given us this simple, natural functionality for YEARS now. It's what people are accustomed to. It's what people WANT to be able to do. It's MY INFORMATION. Let me ORGANIZE it how I see fit. Evernote, PLEASE catch up. I cannot fathom what the possible excuse is for not including this bare-bones functionality. It should be cost-of-entry for any note-taking app. (Version 1.5)

ANG I have just tried MyNotes... Not free, no sync, no webclipper, no web access, no iphone, no multiplatform... Hey where is richtext ? Sorry this is definitively not the same type of software. Evernote ROCKS (Version 1.5.1)
| Oct 29 2009 |
DLWHITE @ANG, perhaps you missed my point. MyNotes is a simple, no-frills, note taking app. My point was that it makes no sense that Evernote, being this massive juggernaut of a program with so many accolades and fanboys, is seemingly unable to do something that the MyNotes program has allowed me to do for years. Can anyone explain that to me? Evernote doesn't offer the option to let me manually reorder content - as iTunes has allowed us all to do (for FREE) for YEARS. It seems like an egregious oversight in an otherwise exemplary program. So why doesn't Evernote CORRECT THIS GLARING OMISSION? It's my data. I want to put in whatever order I please. That's really not a lot to ask of a standalone app, is it??? (Version 1.5.1)

ICONZ113 Another thing would be being able to remove EN from the startup items. After you manually remove EN from startup items, once you activate the app, it adds itself to start up list again. I try to keep the things that startup when I log in to a minimum, I already have other things starting up and if I don't need the helper running anyway, why not let me remove it. How about implementing that into a future release? The only thing that bugs me. (Version 1.5.2)

IGREG I tried last year and had some problems with formatting and dropped it. I thought I would try it again and had even more problems, I could not even import some text files. When I tried importing files they were all greyed out and could not be selected. If it is not not me and a feature of Evernote that it can not import rich text or text files then it is of no use to me. I have thousands of notes. (Version 1.4.9)

BENKOPF Hi, I found this: http://www.switchersblog.com/2009/07/a-potential-solution-to-keep-1passwords-button-in-safari-4s-toolbar.html So it appears that Evernote is aware of the problem and is trying to fix it. I tried the suggested fix for clearing the toolbar, etc. but it didn't work, but that was 1Password specific. I'm writing to EVN to see if there is a fix SOON, because I too use it daily on my job search.

ICONZ113 ya u have to run safari in 32 bit for evernote to display the icon, but then when doing that other apps that are updated dont work , evernote needs to put out an update that allows it to work on safari as is without any manipulation. (Version 1.4.8)

AYUB Wanted to have a try. Found it cool at start. Then I was copying all my VoodoopadLite notes to Evernote and everything was going fine. For two or three times during the copy the syncing went fine. Then suddenly it crashed! Was trying to send crash report. It was not responding (found in my LittleSnitch that it was trying to connect to .googlemail.com. Ok, had to quit from Activity Monitor. Then whenever I go to launch Evernote it keeps crashing. :( Bad luck for me. Ok, one thing may be that I pasted a big amount of text in a note and it couldn't handle it (maybe). (Version 1.4.8)

DON SYKES Evernote saved me big time! I've been using this program for a while and had moved over all my notes, and important information, including many work files (MS Word, Spreadsheets, etc). This was primarily so I could share the info between my desktop Mac and laptop PC (it's brilliant for this). On return from vacation, I had a Hard Drive fail and lost gobs of data - but not the info that was in Evernote. I simply formatted the new hard drive, added the Evernote app and was back up and running. Highly recommended. (Version 1.4.5)

It still needs sub-folders, export options, and a tag filter but otherwise it works VERY well. The Thumbnail previews are really nice. It's a fast and light note taking application that let's you collect information from the web really easily. Great for every day use. (Version 1.3)

ZX81 I wonder why Evernote is compared to Together, Shovebox, etc. These apps store, organize informations locally (on your Mac)but do not sync between different platforms (Mac & Windows) and iPhones The only app. that could compare would be Yojimbo and Webjimbo (But this requires a permanent connection to your Mac, I guess). MAR6473 This is a great app. You just have to keep in mind what type of info you are putting in there. You probably don't want to through in security conscious information. Can we please get a hot key for a new blank note? There's one to paste info from the clipboard and to take a screenshot but nothing to just open a new note... A Tag Cloud would be great too... COCOANUT You might want to read the user agreement before you become too gaaga over this. It's a great idea and a very nice application but you have absolutely NO privacy and all the content you upload is essentially given to them to do with as they want. This type of business practice should be strongly rejected by the user community or else all our privacy will eventually be whittled away to nothing. Read it. (Version 1.1.5)

HEYROBT Actually, anything you submit to them directly (i.e. through their Contact Form, etc.) or anything you post in a notebook that you make public can be used for whatever they want. But if you read the TOS further ... You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Service. Other than the limited license you grant in the preceding paragraph of this Section, Evernote acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms of Service in or to any Content that you submit, post, store, transmit or display on, or through, the Service, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in that Content (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist)." And if someone is totally paranoid there is the option to encrypt text with a password to keep it private. (Version 1.1.5)

SOB Like other folks who've tried most of the "big" programs to organize notes, boost productivity, etc - I have switched so often and scratched my head trying to figure what features I really need and enjoy using. After a few months on Evernote - which keeps on getting better, this program is so good I ignore everything else in this category. It simply works better and easier than anything I've used over the past few years. Thanks guys! Steve O'Brien - CBS-FM Radio, NYC (Version 1.1.4b)

FLOWERM Evernote has become indispensable application for me. I am using it to collect material for three of my university courses—and I will be asking my freshman students to begin using it from day one. I will also be calling Evernote to my colleagues' attention. I need to keep my home and office computers in synch as much as possible. Evernote is an effective repository for material as well as a quick tool for synchronizing content for a number of different projects. I am a Mac user and will soon have an iPod touch in hand and will be using the Evernote mobile, thus allowing me to capture content no matter where I am. (Version 1.1.4)

VANDULUS Evernote is the tool I've been looking for to gather up the dozens of informational files I've had hanging around. Even though it's still in beta, the program is already a fixture on my home (Macs) and work (Windows) computers. Plus the web interface lets me access it from anywhere, including my Blackberry. I've been using it so much that I went for the yearly premium service. I'm not sure what the previous comment dissing Evernote about being cross-platform. If anything it's fairly customized to utilize each platform and not a Java app that looks the same regardless. There are a few things I'd like to see: first I'd love clipping support for Opera and Safari on the Mac. I'd also wish the rich text editor supported tables, horizontal lines and highlight color. MJEDI That's true that some Cross Platform apps are usually lacking in aesthetic appeal, but Evernote, as you can see by the screenshot, looks like a modern, great looking, mac app. I've been using this with the www.Jott.com service by having my verbal notes sent via email to my Evernote account and it totally rocks. Wish they would somehow combine their services, but I think Evernote might already be working on this feature on their own. (Version 1.1.1c)

Looks like you'll have to upgrade to 10.5 if you want to use it. Note: there are many APIs in Leopard that aren't in Tiger. If developers want to leverage them, that means they have to write Leopard-only applications or else do 3 or 4 times the amount of work to support Tiger. Your choice is to upgrade, and use apps like EverNote and Delicious Library 2, etc., or to not upgrade, and not use them. (Version 1.1a)

PERSON1229 And everyone knows what happens when developers have to do 3 to 4 times more work... Prices go up 30 - 40% (Version 1.1.1)
| Aug 5 2008 |
STROB Sounds like a really tough decision for us Tiger guys. Let's see. We can stay with Tiger and find a any number of substitutes like Devonthink or Eaglefiler. Or we can pay Apple 100+ dollars to "upgrade" to Leopard and then buy Evernote. Then at the same time be forced to "upgrade" ($$$) many applications that we have already purchased that work fine under Tiger. Additionally we loose support for many fine applications under Classic. Seems like a great deal...for Apple and developers. (Version 1.1.4)
