ALGOS  Very nice, the only thing I don't like about it is that it hijacks the Finder while active. This is especially annoying when you are creating very big dmg's, since you can't use the Finder while it is working...

PATRICK CHAMELO  You are absolutely right about the Finder interaction and I know why...

I am working quite a lot time now and I hope to fix it soon...

Thanks for using the iDMG...

PATRICK CHAMELO  Better compression is HFS with UDZO with the slider to the right...! Not UDBZ

BACKPACKER  Patrick,

HFS+ and UDBZ (slider all the way right) gave me better compression than UDZO.

After trying UDZO and setting the slider, the slider was kept to the right when I tried UDBZ.

I wish I could keep that setting (like a preference) every time iDMG is launched, since high-compression read-only dmg is what is most often needed.

All the best in your studies.

BACKPACKER  With v2.30 iDMG now retains the settings last used before quitting.

In iDMG Help, will you also explain the File System selections and their effects/consequences ? Thanks Patrick.

PATRICK CHAMELO  Hello i think the above explanation is good.

HFS+ is not case sensitive

HFSX is an extension to HFS+

HFS+J volume is journal

UFS is case sensitive

HFS+ supports both creation and modification

UFS supports modification dates but not creation dates.

HFSX allows volumes to have case-sensitive file and directory names.

HFS+J volume is the default file system for macs. The journal makes it quick and easy to restore the volume structures to a consistent state, without having to scan all of the structures.

HFS+J will keep the parent folder.

The other filesystems will get only the contents.

HFS+J is taking longer than the other filesystems.

let me know if you looking something else...

I'll add it to the next update

PATRICK CHAMELO  I think the smallest read only disk is with HFS+ with UDBZ and the slider all way to the right that will give you the best results of compression.

BACKPACKER  Re: drag-&-drop onto iDMG's 'Drag here' icon. In v2.1 it works, for me, like a jaw that's hinged on it's bottom-left corner, and opens up to gobble a folder when it is dragged towards the right-side of the dotted-box icon. Imagine the fun if/when this action is accompanied by a nice chomping-grinding sound :]

I'm using iDMG almost daily since I discovered that the combined selection of HFS+ and UDBZ produced the smallest read-only disk-images possible. Or am I wrong? Any way that a user could make the right selections by being guided by balloons or something ?

MAC OS X 4EVER  I ave been using Drop DMG and I tried this one once. It didn't work at all.

It doesn't support Drag & Drop to the program's icon.

This is a necessary feature and huge oversight.

There is no way to add the icon to the toolbar on the Finder windows.

Hopefully they will correct this and I will try it again later.

PATRICK CHAMELO  Thank you all!

I can't go back to the old icon since is my friends work. I can provide it to you(old icon) next time.

I am still working on create from folder to finish choosing compressed level for UDZO and few more fixes.

10.4 support is been revoked because of the new progress bars.

That's all for now...

Stay tuned...

DAN FRIML  Better and better! But I don't like the new icon (which is also TOO similar to the one used by DMG Architect). Please revert back to the original one. It was nicer...

AIKOUSHA  It's too bad this doesn't work below 10.5, as there is no way I'm upgrading until there is a stable alternative to classic and a few other things in 10.5.

Hopefully the developer can re-code slightly for earlier systems.
