VMAATTA  No one should use this. If you do, at least do not send any sensitive information through their connection. Trust me... you'll get burned.

LEONCAHUN  VMAATTA, I welcome your concern. Though: the Anchorfree website has links to well respected news sources (WSJ, PC magazine, CNN) recommending the software, saying its ad-supported.

I think one should be concerned when using public hotspots and HS might be an affordable solution.

VMAATTA  Hmm.. can't remember exactly what it was that triggered my comment but now that I think about it I think it was unrelated to Hotspot Shield. Unfortunately I don't see a way to edit it so I've contacted MacUpdate if they'd remove it.

I think the comment I've copied below is spot on and I completely agree.

WHYTOI  I agree. Another one of those faceless companies offering free "secure data" service. What's in it for them? Why should I trust my data with them? By using it, I would be routinely feeding all my data to them. Using public WiFi, at least there's a random nature as to which bits of data a hacker can sniff.

Not ideal!

JACKWEB  We're supposed to trust this company??

Sorry but risking sending private information through their servers is a no no for me.

They don't seem to disclose very much about themselves on their website.

NOUSER4U  I am always getting the error,

Safari can’t open the page “http://127.0.0.1:895/config/?action=connect”. The error was: “Operation could not be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 302.)” (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork:302) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

When I click 'Connect' on the application.

Please Help,

I am using Mac Version 10.5.3 and Safari Version 3.1.1.

I have tried this on Firefox and it just gives me a blank screen.

PETER DA SILVA  The website doesn't go into a lot of detail, but it says this is "sponsor supported" and requires an account on their site, so I assume that it's a VPN to their server, and puts ads on yur screen while you're using it... yes no?

SYR WULLAM  No, no account is required. And yes, you will see some ads at the top of your browser screen ... unless, of course, you use some decent ad blocking application, which is exactly what I do.

Otherwise you are absolutely right: AnchorFree should provide prospective users with a lot more information. Let's hope that they will.
