ILGAZ There is nothing wrong about Adobe Air or this goodly coded application. It is the DESIGN which is horrible. There is no point releasing this software if you can't make idiotic content providers SERVE to places outside USA. So, guy clicks on Comedy Central content and instead of watching, he sees "not available". Completely idiotic and I don't understand comedy central people either. Why filter? They won't block the ads, "leech" flash content to keep on their HD, they are just people who wants a convenient way to watch media. There is no "extension" or whatever is available for media player unlike the browsers. Go get Miro instead or stick with iTunes podcasts. Miro, by nature has no geographic censoring and iTunes podcasts are global.

MARSVIOLET Shameful piece of "Mac" software. Bears no resemblance in behavior or appearance to proper OS X applications and is a laughable puzzle to use. If this is the direction Adobe's Creative Suite is headed, sell your stock now. Adobe Media Player illustrates perfectly why Flash/Adobe AIR is the worst possible software development platform known to man, woman or child.

KILLER KLOWN KAR This came with CS4, is on my disc and I've never launched it. However, if this uses Adobe Air, be forewarned! Installing Air to run TweetDeck made my perfectly stable Mac into a total mess. Not to mention Firefox crashing every 3 minutes, threads run wild, memory being eaten alive, and other shenanigans. Uninstalling Air and my Mac is back to it's normal "how long as it been since I restarted" self.

ILGAZ There is no way that it can crash Firefox. It is the point of multi tasking, multi user operating system which Apple spent years to develop. I don't know if you don't have any clue or simply part of a campaign to bad mouth Adobe air but please, stop suggesting ridicolous things like ordinary application crashing other application. Besides "hacks" or "input managers", there is NO software capable of doing such thing.

JAMUS Other than being a quick and easy player for offline Flash video, I really do not see this being very useful. However, if you need offline/downloaded Flash video files to play in a cross-platform player, this is your bet.

ST00P!D M0NK3Y I'm quite speechless. I expect much more from Adobe. This is just... well it's simply not worth using. VLC or MPlayer are leaps and bounds better. And as far as downloading online content... I'd rather use iTunes or one of the many free sites out there for accessing such content. This is just a waste of hard drive space. The random file association crap is quite annoying. If you're having a dandy time trying to get your file associations back, use this free preference pane ~> http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/14618/rcdefaultapp The program hasn't been updated in a while, but it still does exactly what it says, even in Leopard. You can change the default system file associations at the click of a button.

GARY30 This application sneaked it's way onto my system at some point, maybe along with Adobe Air which is another story. Without intervention it hijacked my application handling preferences for .flv files and had it not done so I imagine I would have weeded it out eventually. I use yFlicks for .flv files thankyouverymuch and it has lots of preferences and controls. As near as I can tell Adobe Media Player has just the basics. Plus it takes a long time to load and once loaded and playing a movie, it commands nearly 70% of CPU cycles compared to about 35% with yFlicks. I can't think of a single redeeming feature of this program except that is looks nice. I guess that deserves one star.

TICE This app connects to a lot of websites (OK, TV channels) but also to doubleclick.net! Why? It's a poor quality, the app runs slow and blocks memory and just isn't worth it. Sorry, not useful. At least: Thanks for the Adobe Air Uninstaller.

DERHATO When I finally received my CS4 disks not too long ago I was absolutely thrilled to get my hands on the newest Flash/Photoshop/Dreamweaver (considering that i gave CS3 a miss). I popped the DVD into my mac and clicked the install all option. 30 minutes later I had the apps on my computer, and decided to browse my folder of downloaded youtube FLVs out of boredom and behold! - some application, Adobe Media Player, had re-associated itself with my downloaded files! Being a patient man, I gave this app a chance to show off what it can do over VLC. I clicked a 3 min FLV file and waited...waited some more...couple minutes now...wait...yep, it froze (my gen.-1 macbook doesn't normally do this...). Wow Adobe, a crappy bundled application that reassigns file associations and doesn't even launch (tried several times, with different FLV files, and still hangs at launch). How original.

SHOCK J This app (consistent with most Adobe apps) has as awful update system. It never automatically detects when a new version is available and you can't download the updater. If you go to Adobe's site, no updater is available for download, it just launches the installed version. I'm stuck with version 1.1 until by some magic the application miraculously discovers that a new version is available. Totally lame.

UMAROMC It definitely seems a BIT snappier than the last version... please read into the emphasis on "BIT". For those of us still working on computers that may have been excellent work horses a couple of years ago and are showing their masters some strain (ie; my MDD G4 Single 1GHz CPU comp, albeit w/ a Radeon 9800 Pro) I cannot gleefully recommend this [yet]. 2. Little or no content - it's frustrating to follow through channel links only to be shown a "This Channel Contains No Episodes" message... then why's the channel THERE? I have no doubt you will run into this. And of what collections of videos there usually MIGHT be, many are restricted to 1-2 minutes... seemingly more of an advertisement themselves for the actual television/cable channel than entertainment worth the annoying price of entry! 3. Annoying advertising - not only are many videos introduced with irritating ads (as if we aren't hit with enough every day), their shoddy audio (for the ads, usually, not so much the actual clips) will annoy even more. To those of you with fast[er] computers... for the lack of content alone I'd not recommend this... and the default Options-as mentioned by another poster-have this program launching at start! | |

GAOSHAN When viewing flash videos in VLC or any other viewer I kept running into difficulties (crashes or lockups when trying to rewind of fast forawrd to a specifc spot, etc). This program was the only one that allowed me complete control over these flash videos. Worked like a charm.

MSWFUJOWDFFYC I would never install RealPlayer on ANY machine after what they've put me through during the last ten years. The best solution for playing FLV files is Perian. 's a free, open source plugin for Quicktime which allows it to play FLV files. You can scrub back and forth across them live any quicktime movie. So, not only do they play nice in the Quicktime player, but FLVs are then natively supported by any app that uses quicktime. I live in the UK... its not like I live half way up a tree in Moldovina... apps like this are half the reason we have such rampant piracy... if I want to watch MTV Cribs in the UK... but cant watch it on Adobe Media Player because its blocked.... what is the other option?...

NEO979 The other option is to live in the US, where we often get first crack at products, TV shows, and movies... and the only downside is that we have no civil liberties anymore thanks to a corrupt administration that spies on its own citizens and tortures others... also there's the endangered economy caused in part by runaway inflation on gas and food prices, the primary blame for a frivolous oil war we can't escape from, and the high unemployment rates coupled with weaker employee protection laws than many third-world countries have. But hey, it's a small price to pay for MTV! Oh, wait, no it's not. Count your blessings, man. :)

Save for the cooking channels every other channel and program you try to watch is either unavailable or the 'format is not compatible with Adobe Air'. Huh? PBARTON I didn't actually get to the Player itself, instead I watched dumfounded as an embedded downloader in Firefox ('Install' panel/link didn't appear in Omniweb at all) proudly proclaimed that it was 'installing' when all it was doing was downloading. After that step an application launched itself from a temporary directory and proceeded to 'install' Adobe Air, when in fact again all it was doing was actually downloading. I gave up on this entire opaque process when the temporary launched-with-no-interaction application wanted my OS admin password. As such take my ratings for the 'download' process rather than the app. Give me a proper Mac installer that I actually download and launch myself from the Finder and I might get to evaluate the player itself one day. I would guess that PC users are used to obscure processes launching themselves in Windows and popping up dialog windows. For me as a Mac user this whole means of installing a simple media player is unacceptable. Total fail Mr. Adobe

SUBFACE as an application in general, i do feel that there are plenty of video players out there and not much of a reason why i would use this when nearly all the content is available online without much trouble to find (if i were actually looking for it). but as a flash developer (having worked on video player apps) and a fan of adobe's air product, this is very well done and is a great example of what can be accomplished -- and in a very elegant way. as for the comments about the installer and UI not being Mac-esc, it's not trying to be. if it were it would have been built in cocoa. i personally like the player design a lot and my only issue is more of with air in that on mac the app has no drop shadow. but otherwise, adobe, well done!!!

Even the installer is from it's own universe and installs directly from the web yet somehow takes transparent advantage of Installer. Not to mention Little Snitch pops up to connect to almost 20 different server connections just for the install. I don't understand why Adobe bothered with this version of app when the Mac market seems like a purely gratuitous effort. I kind of think they are mocking us.

ACHIM2 Looks like program made for Windows. If a video gets stuck (due to bad connection) or if you try to jump forward some minutes, it will never resume playback. You have to restart and watch the ads again - and often it gets stuck right after showing those. This is far from ready and useable. But if you love to watch Oil of Olé ads over and over again, this might be for you.
