DOOBIEXX  Very promising, It could either continue to get more stable, more features, more users or get too bloated. The concept is beautiful in it's simplicity, I hope it stays that way and in the background.

Great job on this app so far. I really like it, Thank you.

MEMPHISBIRD  I installed MMF and could not get it to work for me. I uninstalled it, or attempted to, but it seems it's still trying to launch and not finding files. I get this message: "(MMF.command[34457]) posix_spawn("/Users/Shared/Launch_MMF_Daemon/MMF.command", ...): No such file or directory" It is repeated over and over in my console log. What do I need to do to stop this?

MEMPHISBIRD  To answer my own question, I read the Read Me file. Duh. I reinstalled the app, pressed the stop button, then deleted the app and the MMF file from ~/Library/LaunchAgents/. Rebooted, and now the message is gone.

BYTESMITHS  I recommend stating that it is for gmail only very prominent in the description. I got too excited when I thought it was a general SMTP client.

HABANITA  Maxwell,

I make free softwares in order to help everyone (including me) improving his workflow and his mac experience.

As I spent days of labor on Magic Mail Folder, I do not appreciate that a paranoid preacher come and put into doubt my work. If you had read the previous comments you would have learnt that MMF has been certified by softpedia for being free of any spyware. Plus, with a minimum of effort you could have browsed the ruby easy code (which is availabe into the app packet) and see if something is suspicious. That would have helped a serious and useful review.

FMAXWELL  HABANITA:

I am sorry that you took my comment personally, because that is not how it was intended. Just the opposite in fact: A stranger is giving me an app that is asking for my gmail address and password. I don't know you. I'm suspecting that you're probably a good guy, but I am a computer security professional and I'm concerned.

You will note that another reviewer, BCARTER, wrote: "Not really interested in supplying my Gmail username and password to this app/developer."

I did not examine the code line-by-line (and neither does Softpedia, which has a huge disclaimer in their terms of service).

I did note that the package includes an encrypted SMTP module (smtp_tls.rb) and I'm thinking to myself "if this thing is doing everything through the gmail web interface, why is there an encrypted SMTP module in here?" Your load_prefs script has been saved runnable, meaning that the Apple script editor can't open it. It doesn't appear that the application is using Apple's keychain, so I don't know if my account name and password are being saved in a secure manner.

Sorry if all of this angers you, but I'm trying to do my due-diligence here.

FMAXWELL  Rather than using a standard SMTP protocol for sending, this application only works with gmail. If you do not have a gmail account, the app will not work for you.

The application asks for your gmail login and password. This is a tremendous security concern. Even if you use a firewall and limit the application's access to gmail, for all you know, it is logging on to gmail and sending your account login information to the author -- or sending him copies of e-mail from your gmail account.

Until/unless the author makes a version that works with standard mail servers (rather than proprietary gmail servers) I recommend that you pass on this one.

TOMDOHERTY  Goes through the sending process as normal and indicates that files have been sent ...and files are even placed in the 'Sent' folder. However, sent files are not being received at all!!!. I have tested this with the following accounts - gmail.com, mac.com, eircom.net and a number of other personal addresses ...still no files being received!! MMF was working perfectly up to this update. Thanks

HABANITA  Hi ! Thanks for this useful comment ! Have you checked in the 'sent box' of the gmail website. if everything has been successfully sent ? If yes, can you check the 'more details' option on one of your sent message and see if the destination address has been correctly transmit by MMF ?

thanks again, u can write me at : magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

TOMDOHERTY  No, no, you misunderstand me completely ...I create a folder on my computer with a file name that is an email address, say xxx@mac.com or xxx@gmail.com or xxx@eircom.net. I then put in a file to send via MMF. MMF sends the file in each case and in doing so creates its own 'Sent' folder within the original (as it always has done before). I get a screen message from MMF to say that the file(s) has been sent ...however NO files have been received by the people I sent them to!! Prior to yesterday's upgrade these very same people have been receiving my files via MMF without any problems. Nothing has changed except MMF!!!!

SATYRICAX  YOU don't understand. Read and listen to the DEV's suggestion, which you DID NOT.

He want you to check your outgoing mail's account to see if it made it. This app simply

provides a creative GUI/process which utilizes YOUR OWN email account to send.

RTFM!

ELEGRAPHY  When I open the .dmg file, the pop up message says the following:

"The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system. Are you sure you want to open this disk image?

( Open ) ( Don't Open ) "

I remember that I had some lag problem with my PB G4 before, and I when checked the Console and it was caused by MMF, so I had to uninstall it. Maybe the message has some truth with it?

HABANITA  What you have seen in the console is nothing else than the scheduled work of MMF, just like any other of the hundreds of operations that are sequencially dealt by your system. Also MMF needs no memory. It's running on my G4 Mac-mini for more than one year now without inflicting any lag (i use it also on my eeepc-linux machine without problem)

JOESANDWICH  Yes, it should be written under the logo. Thanks for pointing me out this issue. The truth is that I didn't update the cocoa informations of the App. I only changed the code that is located inside. It seems that i am also a BETA-developer ;-)

Thanks again for your interests. I am widely open to any improvement ideas and suggestions !

HABANITA  The app has been updated and partially re-written. It should work fine now, for everyone and (hopefully) forever...

And as a reply of the previous comment who wondered "can this not work with mail app" ? Well, as a deamon, MMF becomes part of the system. No need to fire up Mail App. Any folder (with an email formated name) is ready to post any kind of documents. For what it does, it is a way faster than Mail App (see the test-speed video).

HABANITA  Hi everyone !

MMF works fine for 99% of users but it seems that sometimes and for some reasons it doesn't work.

To help me make it work for everyone, if you encounter any problem, please email me at :

magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

...and tell me what is your error message or dysfunction, your OS and everything that could matter.

Thanks a lot !

DONKEYOTAY  Doesn't work for me either. I'm using an Intel 1.66 Macmini w/2 Gig of RAM. Get the message:

Failed. Check your internet connection or your gmail account references."

Both of which are correct.

Shame, as I'd love this to work.

HABANITA  Hello,

It seems to me that you are not facing a big issue... at least it's something easy to solve, i just need few more details.

What is your os (10.5 ?)

Can u tell me where is your file (the one you wanted to send) after the error message ?

Have u tried with other files ? Other recipient folder ?

here's my email : magic.mail.folder@gmail.com

I am sorry for the inconvenience... MMF is still at a beta stage and - with your help - i hope to get it work for everyone !!

Can u tell me more ? I'd like to fix this. Here's my email : magic.mail.folder@gmail.com
