CONSUMER  Pretty slick one-trick application. I have family that are new to Mac, and I was going to manually create a "check these out" list of applications on my personal website, but I had been putting off because of the time involved. When Appster popped in my MU RSS feed months ago, it piqued my interest. I am just now writing my review, but this application was quick and simple and afforded me no excuse to further procrastinate on generating the application list to share with family.

Thank you for having the Notes section html'd, because I use it to provide links to tutorials on the applications I share with my family (e.g., Macworld, and ScreenCastsOnline).

A feature that I wish to have, that I do not think will not take away from its simplicity is export/import as csv or .xls . I keep a list of my applications with their relevant serial numbers and registration info in a spreadsheet. Being able to pull that info and have it fill into the Notes section of Appster, or conversely, be able to have Appster export as an excel-compatible file in addition to html would be swell.

Thanks for sharing this application!

EAN  Great idea, but needs more work. Version 1.1.4 seems to fix the crash when exporting problem, so it is now possible to test. Better filtering would be really nice, especially the option to scan only the Applications folder or other, defined directories. Also, there is no way to show applications after the "Hide" button has been clicked (except to trash the prefs). It would be great if a document could be saved and reloaded, and it would be nice to have more control over the HTML output, though this can always be done later...

While it's not perfect, I think I can already put it to use. I am looking forward to future versions.

G0LDF1SH  Hi there.

I'm glad to hear that the new version is working for you. I'm looking into making application filtering easier, as it is a popular request.

As for the issue you're experiencing showing applications which you've previously hidden, you can reveal them in the list by selecting 'Show Filtered Applications' from the View menu. Filtered applications will have a ghosted appearance in the application list. You can un-hide one or more filtered applications by selecting them and clicking the 'Show' button. The UI needs to make this more obvious.

The notes and URLs you provide for the applications in your list are stored in the Appster state files. In a way, this provides you with a document that is reloaded each time you start up Appster.

Providing more control over the HTML output is one of the larger features on my todo list. I am hoping to gather input regarding how this feature should work. If you have thoughts about this or other features, please contact me.

Thank you for your feedback.

FLASH1296  I suppose that the problem that i am experiencing is simply that I do not see what the purpose of this application is.

In Apple System Profiler one can goto Software > Applications and generate a list of installed applications.

Can I launch an application from Appster?

I see no way to do that.

Is there a FAQ or documention available anywhere? I think not.

EAN  I have a great use for this program: generate an HTML document of apps installed on workstations with short descriptions for students--so they know what tools are available to them.
