AGMASTER Don't use this program. I finally discovered after 2 years why my Macbook Pro was not auto sleeping. This program, even if you delete it from your mac, still causes hard drive activity preventing the auto sleep feature. (Version 2.5.3)

WIZZARD1 I have been using this product since beta and it has always performed well; no slowdowns. All my testing has been on full loaded (memory wise and disk wise) mac laptops and desktops. Checkup works perfectly fine and has no performance issues. All test machines have 2 gig of memory or less - granted they are all intel if that makes a different to the general audience here. APP4MAC is slowly building in features. As much as some of the reviews say all can come from other free apps that is not always true as most app may have an extra fee for the add on or you may have to use multiple or you may have to use a generic drivers. I agree iStat may be an exception in some way but the menuing system when you turn on everything uses up much real estate in your bar. Both are great tools. Both package it nicely. I am not doubting that some of you may be having performance issues but these may not necessarily be related to CheckUP even if you remove it and all seems fine - you might still have a conflict from some other app. APP4Mac support has been great so if you have problems report any conflicts to them so they can adjust and fix if necessary. They are very helpful. And for you folks complaining at the price, you should have bought it during the beta phase and just shortly after when the price was much, much lower. I agree that currrent pricing may not be reflective of the apps features but the euro ain't cheap in comparison to other currencies. The developer believe that they should be charging that price - if you don't agree don't buy it; if the world feels the same then they will not make sales and the price might drop - this is the same with any product. Wonder if you same folks complain about the price of a windows os, upgrade, etc but you would still buy it or steal the code and use it for free. Whiners. If you try the product, don't like it and don't like the price, then delete it; no one wishes to hear you complain like someone is going to do something about it. Folks want to hear issues about real problems and not subjective views. Please keep them to yourself. (Version 2.5.2)

TEXASSTARGAZER I would like to update my previous review. After using Checkup for a few days I have come to the conclusion that it's too limited to be of any use. It checks sensors every second with no way to change this. It also only check a few sensors, predefined by the developer, and un-selectable by the user. I now agree with other reviewers that this app is just a pretty face and not functionally useful. A waste of $42. Hopefully the developer will give their customers some flexibility and more options in future releases. (Version 2.5.1)

TEXASSTARGAZER Very nice app, ignore the negative reviews, try it for yourself. Whatever these negative reviewers do for a living, I'm sure they get paid well for doing it. I don't understand why they expect other people to put in long hours and hard work developing a very nice app and not receive any compensation for it. (Version 2.5.1)

A few (very few actually...) nice features, but the daemon slows down my computer A LOT, especially when leaving the sleep mode. Nice eyecandy app, but definitely better in my trash can. (Version 2.5)

DANA SUTTON The author of the original review is factually accurate: most if not all of the information CheckUp gives you about your comoputer is available from free applications such as iStat Menus and Apple's own Activity Monitor. And I don't see any evidence in his review that he wrote it after only using CheckUp for only two minutes, that's a grossly unfair accusation by the developer. As with anything else in life, it is up to the developer to name his price, and up to individual purchaser to decide whether the product is worth it. If the developer gets it right, he is a success, if doesn't, then he goes to bed hungry. Personally, I agree with the reviewer that CheckUp is much too expensive, but many people will probably disagree. I'd only make two comments to the developer. First, the advertised price is stated to be $40 USD, so I don't quite understand how the way the dollar is currently pegged against the Euro is a relevant thing to mention. If the value of the Euro suddenly plunged, I very much doubt you'd lower your US price to reflect that. Second, you ought at least to consider whether, if you asked less for each copy, you might sell enough extra copies that you'd actually make MORE money than you may be now. So it's at least possible that offering your product at a much more reasonable price would be in your best economic interest. (Version 2.5)

FORMICA $40? For what? The major functions of this app are available FOR FREE in the iStat Pro Widget or iStat Menus, and in those cases the only value added is all the eye candy, so it's pretty, but it wastes a ton of screen space for essentially no useful purpose. This app does provide some functionality that the two iStat apps do not, such as: 1) Rules triggered "when certain conditions are met for a specified resource..."; 2) logging; and 3) system monitoring over a network. Those 3 major functions offered my CheckUp bur not by the iStat apps could be useful to network administrators, but not to average users. And ChecUp offers a few other functions that are available FOR FREE by several other apps. So the bottom line is this: Is it absolutely necessary for you to have WITHIN ONE APPLICATION all of the otherwise FREE capabilities offered by a few individual apps? If yes, then is it still necessary at the cost of $40? Even I would like to have all these functions provided by just one app. However, even if I were a network administrator, paying $40 for that convenience would be simply extravagant, considering that they're available for free in two or even three apps. At a price of say $5, I might consider buying Checkup. I suspect that most Mac owners feel just as I do -- judging the customer reviews on both CheckUp 2.5b2 MacUpdate and VersionTracker. ANONYMOUS $40, yes but it's only because the dollar is very low at this time of the year. Default price in Euros is only 29 Euros. Also, this user didn't said that all updates are always free for your full life and our customers enjoy this policy! CheckUp is our best seller. (Version 2.5b3)

LACWBO The new version seems to perform as advertised except that it still refuses to detect my WiFi networks. This problem was first noted when versions 2.0b1 and 2.0b2 were introduced. The old version 1 detected the networks. Can't understand why version 2 can't. (Version 2.0)

LACWBO This is a correction to my previous post re: crash at startup. I installed version 2.0b2. The previous version 1.2.1 all worked fine. The latest version crashes at the opening screen. After removing all the CheckUp files and reinstalling, it works for a few times then crashes upon startup of CheckUp. App4mac has been informed of the problem. Still no reply from app4mac. I would reinstall version 1.2.1 again, it worked but I can't find it anywhere. (Version 2.0b2)

MITCH_DE Looks very nice - but at cost of very, very huge memory consumtion (for such a tool). The background task runs ever - even when you dont run the main app. This background app uses watet cpu cyles. Should onyl loaded / killed be the main app and NOT the way of launch as an daemon! OCD Be careful with this one... If/when you uninstall it make sure you follow the directions and remove its launch daemon in - /Library/LaunchDaemons/... If you just remove the app the startup process will generate constant errors and wreak havoc with your system, causing sporadic freezes and crashes esp. when running certain network connected apps... IGREG $50 regular price? $40 for the sale price? LOL. I read somewhere that the company makes the point that $50 is for using it on two computers. OK then charge $25 for use on one computer, then your closer to a realistic price. If you want a monitor that monitors RAM, CPU, and more, then MenuMeters is free and good. CheckUp does more, but not $50 or $40 more. (Version 1.1.1)

MITCH_DE Great looking App , Takes a lot of RAM and some % of CPU Time (over time same as Windowserver which is much!) in background (CheckAlert+CheckAgent tasks) even if you dont need/want checks+logs over the time. I ony want that the app takes his RAM+CPU if its aktive. Disabling that Launchd tasks will not allow running theapp only - thats the reason why i give only 3 Stars and stay at Menumeters (much less RAM+CPU usage on my DC Intel) (Version 1.1.1)

RONL As with ALL utilities that are able to change your system be VERY careful. Before even thinking about using this also read the reviews at VersionTracker. Many reviewers are not entering stars so the 'star-level' of this app remains unreasonably high. After reading almost all of the reviews on this I would never use this AS YET. I have been working with computers for decades and with Macs for approx. ten years. In all of time I have found that most major system apps (Nortons, etc.) do more harm than good (e.g I have had hard drives go belly up after using some). Since DiskWarrior was released I have found it is the only major system app I need along with Apple's Disk Utility. Of course there are minor utilities that are useful as well (e.g. Leopard Cache Cleaner). But for the most part DW and DU are all you'll ever need. Just be careful... especially when a system utility is at version 1.0. And again... read all or at least most of the reviews here and at VersionTracker before making your decision. (Version 1.0)

BRUCE_Y This seems like a strange workaround. I have been using Default Folder X for years, and it is pretty reliable. So to have to disable one of my apps which I want to be running all the time, in order to run the checkup program occasionally (since I do not want the background system checkup program running all the time) seems backwards. Shouldn't CheckUp itself be also making some kind of code changes to ensure compatibility with long-standing Macintosh applications? (Version 1.0)

APP4MAC We received crash reports and the problem is clearly related to Default Folder X. This utility is also not compatible with many other applications like MySQL Query Browser. It's because the utility hack the system. (Version 1.0)

WOLFEATSWORLD I've tried all functions of the program. I find it to be useful for the most part. I'm going to be brief and say this about the idea of the end user parting with his/her money to purchase it: It is, in my opinion, too expensive for what it does, mainly because there are plenty of other freeware programs that (combined) will do every-last-thing, this one will do. The developer has taken scripts and code from many other developers and "bundled" them to produce this application. Yes, it IS nice to look at (GUI), is excellent. But will I pay $50+ to be entertained by some graphics? I don't think so, for me at least. Bottom line: I'll pass - until the developer(s) can actucally DO something to FIX my Mac, rather than just tell me what 100 other apps can tell me, admittedly, with greater flare than the others. GLOBE-TROTTER Since my previous trouble comments (see Jan 23), CheckUp works fine except for the same 2 features as you mentioned (computer temperature and disk space) that keep on popping even if my max. settings are not reached. GLOBE-TROTTER I was able to use a previous Beta version once or twice a few weeks ago, that's it. Now, any new version crashes at startup, even if I uninstall app., pref., etc. and reinstall from scratch. I use, on a daily basis, other app4mac applications with no problems but this one needs serious fix before spending 49$ for the final version of a software that does what OS X already has mostly built-in or other freeware/shareware do for free. Great look, though... (MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo 1.5 Go RAM - Leopard 10.5.1 - French) (Version 0.9.9)

GLOBE-TROTTER Crash at launch might be caused by Firewall Security settings in Leopard. Pay attention if you setup firewall to monitor incoming services and applications individually. This may not function properly with CheckUp (beta version) the first times. It finally worked for me after 3 attempts. Technical support at app4mac was quick to reply to my inquiry (and in my language: French!). (Version 0.9.9)

DANA SUTTON Truly great graphics, a real pleasure to watch. Having said that, and throwing in a good word about the e-mail notification scheme, I'm not so impressed with the application as a whole. Plenty of the information this provides is available either with resources that comes with OSX (Application Monitor, About This Mac) or can be downloaded for free (e. g. temperature monitoring utilities, utilities that generate SMART reports). I wouldn't be half so harsh if the price point were lower, but an introductory price of $29 (and Lord knows what the full price is going to be) is very steep for the convenience of having this stuff bundled in one package and given some handsome eye candy. At $10 I'd probably spring for a a copy myself, but I suspect the developer will find he's pricing himself out of the market. (Version 0.9.5)
