PAUL MURRAY  All I want is a way to mount a zip file, so that I can point eclipse at the doco inside a zip file without unzipping it.

Dowmloaded "DMGConverter". It only converts DMG to DMG.

Downloded iArchiver. Woo hoo! Does what I want.

Install, run.

Click the "convert" tab. Check.

Drag my archive (B19306_01.zip) onto the left-hand pane. Check.

Select "dmg" on the right hand side. Check.

(Hmmm. DMGConverter had a lot more options here, but that's ok - I can use DMGcoverter once it's in that form.)

Click the "GO!" button .... where's the "go" button? Double click? No ... menu item? no. Preferences? Well - these's this page of checkboxes. Maybe if I check "zip" and DMG" ... Hmm. The icon in the right-hand pane changes. But I don't see progress bars or anything ...

Nope. Give up. Maybe there'll be a reply to this. Maybe they'll do a Snow Leopard bug fix - if that's what it is.

THEBRIX2008  (Disclaimer - the price has doubled since I bought it!)

iArchiver does the job well, feels Mac-like (excellent use of drag and drop, which makes it very easy to create archives spanning multiple directories) and, at last, forms a complete replacement for the remnants of Stuffit Expander still around and the occasional command line tools previously required for some formats. It also avoids the temptation to bombard the user with excessive configuration options and irrelevant statistics, which is a problem with most Windows-based archivers.

A couple of possible minor improvements:

1. Better feedback - if a password for an encrypted archive is entered incorrectly, it is simply asked for again with no indication that the first password was wrong;

2. Notwithstanding the previous remark about complexity, the engine appears not to support de-archiving of some of the more obscure ZIP and 7-zip options (particularly "solid archives" and some of the more recent of the half-dozen ZIP encryption schemes) as I occasionally have trouble decrypting archives created under Windows (PowerArchiver 2007 and 2009). No problem in the other direction.

The about box says something about "The swiss army knife for archiving", but that's not true! iArchiver is much better than a swiss army knife. Swiss army knifes suck at archiving and iArchiver is an Austrian tool (thank god !).

iArchiver is THE Austrian Archiver.

My grandpa always said: "Never try to hide behind a swiss army knife, that doesn't help." Well, I think Crocodile Dundee would agree.

LOUNGE DELUXE  Very nice app indeed. Its interface to me is much nicer than BetterZip, but I will keep on using BetterZip because of its ability to create rar archives (though you need to purchase a separate license to rar). If the developer could implement this feature then at least I would abandon BetterZip in favor of iArchiver. And the price of iArchiver is simply right!

RENO RAINES  Universal archiving tool with a typical mac drag-and-drop userinterface.

This makes working with archives really easy. No more worrying about downloading different tools for every different archive format.

I can never remember how to create those darn tar.gz archives for all my linux geek friends. Now I don't have to. iArchiver makes it as easy as creating a zip file!

DEVON MILES  We value simple, straight forward, easy to use tools like iArchiver here at FLAG. If you're doing anything that involves archives... whether its packing, extracting, or converting... This is the tool I'd recommend.

I have to say betterzip comes very close. But you just can't beat the price for iArchiver. Only $9... That how much I spend on lunch every day!

One feature I'd like to see added iArchiver is the ability to modify existing archives. That would save me from having to totally unpack and repack it.

BTW: it even supports creating DMGs! Great feature! Strange that this is not emphasized more on their website.

MICHAEL CEO  This a highly versatile application that's proven its worth over and over. It easy interface also make it a joy to use.

I recently had to convert some RAR files to ZIP for my colleagues and with iArchiver this was a breeze.

What I also found very useful was its support to create and extract Apple disk images (dmg) and 7-zip files (7z) that I find myself using frequently.
