TCAMPBELLUT  Adium has no IRC support that I have found. This does. It's also a standard interface across multiple platforms.

Regarding people that claim that PPCs are dead (or dying), you obviously don't have a PPC. Don't make quick statements when they obviously don't involve you. I personally have two PPC based Macs and two Intel based Macs. I have no intentions of "trashing" my PPC Macs.

I was curious though if Instantbird will be supporting OTR Encryption at any point. If not, I won't be using it.

MEEGO  Instantbird will have a hard time gathering users. There are already many free IM clients built around libpurple (hence with the same core features). Every major system has its native libpurple+GUI implementation.

Plus, as an implementation of libpurple, Adium is now nearing perfection.

GLOBETROTTERDK  In general, Apple builds quality hardware that does not have to be thrown out every second year. Why shouldn't PPC continue to be supported as long as the hardware is rock solid? Mozilla's other products support PPC.

GLOBETROTTERDK  I received an e-mail from the developer:

"...There is currently no PPC version because we have no usable PPC hardware to build and test it (the only PPC machine I have is an old PowerBook G3 which is way too old to build or run Instantbird).

If someone wants to offer us a nice PPC machine, we may provide PPC builds."

TUISHIMI  Not to be a jerk, but what is the advantage of that to me (mac user)? Is file sharing better? Compatibility in general better?

SPLUNK23  Sometimes it's not all about you. The developers decided to write a cross-platform IM client. It runs on Mac, so MacUpdate listed it.

TUISHIMI  Of course, and you realize I didn't mean "just me" I meant to users in general. And I was honestly interested in knowing if there were advantages because it is 100% possible that the implementation IS better than the backend used by Adium. I wanted to know if this was the case, and whether or not it triumphed over the mac-specific UI offered by Adium.
