ZWEI  NOTICE: The OpenDNS team recently released an “Official” Mac OpenDNS client. Once the client is out of beta status I will be retiring my version of the updater as it is no longer needed. Further information about the new client can be found in the OpenDNS Forums.

DRDUL  I like OpenDNS Updater, but I don't like the menubar icon. Any chance of a new (or alternative) icon that's not so in-your-face? Or even better, how about saving me some space in my already crowded menubar, and convert OpenDNS Updater to a preference pane?

PEDRO FARDILHA  OpenDNS has another service called DNS-O-Matic that I use to update all my dyn dns services (like dyndns.com).

It still uses menu bar space, but at least I'm using a single app for all my dns issues.

If you want to give it a try (it's free) he url is: www.dnsomatic.com/

ZWEI  Actually, I HAVE been thinking about redesigning the menubar icon. I'll keep that in mind for the next release.

DRDUL  @Zwei: Great! I'll look forward to a new icon.

@Pedro: Thanks for the tip about DNS-O-Matic (great name!).

PIETRO CRISTOFOLI  Does what it claims ... thanks!

One request though: a spash screen that announces that the app has been launched and is working in the background would help (double-clicking the app only adds a new item in the menu bar).

ZWEI  For those of you using Unsanity haxies, OpenDNS Updater may quit at launch. Put OpenDNS Updater in the global exclusion list in the APE preference pane and it should fix the problem.

TTERRAG  This app/script allows those with a dynamic IP address (any consumer cable or DSL subscriber) to use OpenDNS.com for faster DNS lookups. Software developer is very responsive and the application is a must for OpenDNS users.

Note: You can use OpenDNS without the app; insructions at: https://www.opendns.com/start

Advanced OpenDNS features require you to update your record when your IP address changes. This app does it automatically!
