2KTZ doesn't APPTRAP do the same thing?....and is a lot smaller in size...that seems just as good and all you have to do is drag a app in the trash and it asks you if you want to delete all files associated with the app in the trash.... (Version 1.2.2)

LARRYMCJ Though I'm a registered customer of several similar apps (including AppZapper) I find AppCleaner to be the best...by far. In my tests it always found more (usually all) files associated with the application being deleted. AppZapper has to be the worst at this...it probably finds about 50% of the associated files. Another very nice feature of AppCleaner is by simply moving an application to the trash AppCleaner will find all that app's associated files and ask if you'd like to also delete them. DRDUL Despite having purchased a licence for AppZapper a few years ago, I now use AppCleaner exclusively. The big reason I switched is that AppCleaner will successively delete apps without the need to re-authenticate when used from a non-admin account. Authenticate once, and then you can delete as many apps as you want without typing your admin password over and over again (eventually, after about 5 minutes, you'll need to re-authenticate). DETTO This truly is a mini review. Just downloaded this tool again to check its work. Well, I'm a bit dissapointed. First, the "AppCleaner Helper" only works if you are logged in as an admin. For a normal user account it doesn't work. Second, .. well just take a look: http://img3.abload.de/img/bild10cku.png Maybe it was a bad accident, but to be honest: I installed AppCleaner, temporarily removed one application to see AppCleaner working, and on the first application removal one gets such a result? Getting tired of using my saved spotlight search for application removals I was seaching (again) for such a tool to ease the task a little bit. AppZapper is not really better, + it's shareware. FORMICA Of all the various file deleting apps out there this is by far the best, and amazingly it's FREE! I can never understand how other developers can get away with charging for their file deleting programs when AppCleaner is so much better, catches more affiliated files, and is FREE! Kudos to the developer! The only thing that could make it better is if the Applications, Widgets and Others sections each had a "Select All" checkbox so we wouldn't have to individually check each app, widget or other filetype to protect it. Whenever I have to reinstall my OS it takes about 5 minutes to check off all the apps, etc. that I want to protect with AppCleaner. Nevertheless, this is an outstanding app from an outstanding developer. (Version 1.2.2)

FORMICA Ooops, my mistake -- AppCleaner DOES in fact have a Select All capability under the "Options" menu in the Menubar. This really is THE GREATEST APP-AND-ASSOCIATED-FILES DELETING PROGRAM AVAILABLE, AND IT'S FREEEEEEEEE! (Version 1.2.2)

LOPOZ The app looks great and it's free, but it cleans files not associated with the app I'm trying to remove (as a test). I tried zapping Extendmac Flow as a test using AppZapper and AppCleaner. AppZapper found three files: the app itself :P, App Support folder and a plist. AppCleaner found 6 files: the app itself, a plist and FOUR unrelated plist files which contained the word 'flow' in them. Needless to say removing those plists would have caused me to lose the settings for the apps associated with the plists. Not recommended. It seems AppZapper, even though 2 years old, is still on top of it's game.. (Version 1.2.2)

DEATHCABFORSEAN I Havn't had appcleaner for very long, but it has impressed me. I was close to buying appzapper at one point, partly cos i loved the zapp sound effect, but mostly for the lifetime update guarantee, and the fact it didn't seem too much to pay to be able to keep my mac clean and uncluttered (don't want our macs turning out like every pc on the planet), but appzapper hasn't been updated for 2 years, so it seems a pointless guarantee. appcleaner has a cool cube flip-around view when you choose the app to clean, no cool zapp soundeffect, but for a free app works perfect. I got rid of iGTD2 with it, and after cleaning it and spotlighting one file was still there, but i just put it through appcleaner a second time and every trace was removed, no worries, just have to be patient, but considering it's free, seems fine. The best of its kind. Works as described. I wonder if it's possible to add a feature to detect preference files which are not associated with any application, i.e files of applications where we have deleted the applications (before we had AppCleaner) but forgot to delete their preference files. LARRYMCJ For the past few months I've been thoroughly testing the top three uninstallers for Mac. My first comment about AppCleaner 1.2.2 is that it is unquestionably (in my mind, anyway) the best application uninstaller available! Nice clean interface, but more than anything, when testing which associated files need to deleted with an application, AppCleaner 1.2.2 consistently found more files than the other application uninstallers. That said, it has an invaluable feature where it automatically finds these other files and shows them to you if you inadvertently just drag an application to the Trash Can. (Version 1.2.2)

LARRYMCJ I've been looking at AppCleaner to replace AppZapper and while I respect your comments here, I can't find another other instance of it occurring on the internet...only yours. You can easily test to see if AppCleaner is the culprit...simply reinstall it and see if you stop getting the error messages. If that's the case, I'd just leave it installed and turned off until the next time you rebuild your machine...or not. It won't hurt anything. (Version 1.2.2)

Thanks for posting your comment (twice). Well, I suppose the presence of the messages I was displaying in Console which I posted on Dec 6 2008, which clearly indicate "AppCleaner", and this after I had uninstalled AppCleaner would kind of suggest that yes, AppCleaner had something to do with my machines not sleeping. Or how about this: after I deleted the AppCleaner Daemon, both my computers are now sleeping without provocation. Alas, 1+1 does seem to equal 2 (Version 1.2.2)

CHAWKNZ Who says you don't need to uninstall on a Mac? Well, really you don't but if you don't look carefully, your preference folders will get filled up with applications from ages ago. This application does a great job at finding most files associated with an app and provides a clean, easy way to see and clear these files. This program has become a staple of my desktop, residing where the classic Mac's trashcan used to be. Thank you! (Version 1.2.2)

HALEAKALARI I hope the author of AppCleaner keeps up with this page, because it has been quite difficult to get a response from him through e-mail, but i have a bug report which is as follows: Under OS X 10.4.11, AppCleaner Version 1.2 does not detect or display any Widgets under its Widgets section. Furthermore, AppCleaner's History function does not seem to work at all either, when you click "Show History..." from the "Window" menu or use the keyboard shortcut (Apple-L), nothing is displayed. This occurs on an Intel Core Duo Also, in AppCleaner Version 1.2, under OS X 10.5.3, although the History window is accessible, the Widgets section exhibits the same problem it does on OS X 10.4.11, as it does not seem to detect or display any Widgets. This occurs on an Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook. (Version 1.2)

FARDILHA I've been using AppCleaner for the last few weeks and I'm really impressed with it. I like the interface a lot but the new feature "SmartDelete" is really great. I'm always trying new programs and I don't know a better way to make my Mac free of all those small files that tend to stay behind when we delete an application. As best I would add an option for AppCleaner quits itself after being called (and used) thru SmartDelete, but even that isn't a big deal. Thank you so much to Mr Julien Ramseier for this great (and free) utility. (Version 1.2b1)

JEEPEE There are a lot applications like this that do delete files that belong to a program, but do not find all the related files. Most applications like AppCleaner (AppZapper, etc.) are searching for names that are related to the program, but always after the programs are installed. They have no idea what invisible files or files with complete other names might belong to those programs. Only applications that monitor your Mac constantly might find all related files. The only program doing this is CleanApp. Uninstaller and Yank can find files belonging to programs too, but they use other methods and well, I find CleanApp much easier to use and it still does find more files. Remember that CleanApp must be installed and the registrationservice must be activated before any installation of a program you want to remove. CleanApp is not able to find related files that are already installed, before CleanApp is installed and activated. I hope that more applications like AppCleaner (which looks very nice), AppZapper etc. will follow CleanApp in finding more files and better cleaning, because that's what they promise and do less 'Spotlight'-searching... :-) (Version 1.0.3)

ASDFASD This is a great app, the interface is very good, the best of its kind. Contrary to previous comments, dropping an application to the application icon in the dock or in the Finder starts the delete procedure. Unfortunately there is a problem to report: if you have an application inside a folder it will not delete that folder and the contents of it besides the application! This is a very big defect since a lot of applications and a lot of its files are inside a folder. I do not know if this is very difficult to fix, but if so it would be the best application delete tool. I hope the developer fix this problem soon. (Version 1.0.1)
