AB0895  FoneLink is a fantastic piece of software! It recognised my Nokias immediately and was so easy to use. I particularly like the ease of backing up, the ability to see images AND send SMS..........all from a Mac; wonderful.

LAURA1117  Fonelink recognized my phone (sony ericsson 580I) without a problem, but the syncing was not working correctly. I contacted support and with their help I was able to resolve the problem. This is a very good product. I find it to be very easy to use.

RKDUDE  I paid for and bought Fonelink in July 2008 for use with my Nokia E71 and MacBook Pro. I had a lot of problems with it not recognising my phone and such.

The support staff at Novamedia were excellent. Within days i had a solution and now with every version i see improvements. Yes there were sync issues. But they've sorted them out and i use the latest 2.1.5 version with no issues. It does everything as promised and i couldn't be more pleased.

FUELLEMANN  Hello dear customers,

I am sorry for the crashes some of you experienced. Most of them are due to a faulty firmware on the cell phones, please try the new version as it includes a workaround.

Kind regards,

SIBDJ  As a PC user, I had for many years used Nokia's PC Suite, so when I changed over to Mac I wanted somthing that would do the same things again. Initially I did have problems getting my Nokia 8600 Luna to connect my Mac (without Fonelink), iSync wouldn't even recognise my phone!

However, Novamedia wrote software for me "on the fly" to solve this problem, they couldn't have been any more help than they were.

I would wholehearted recommend this product, which has made my life easier!

AKROBAT  Well this is a very good application. I've just tested the Demo version. Minus points for a few things such as calendars not being transfered at all, spinning wheel of death a lot and the sync can take a long time.

However it's well laid out, extensive and is 20x more useful than BluePhoneElite, which I incidentally have.

Had I not been planning to purchase an iPhone this month then I would have bought this app to go along with my next phone. However iPhone it is and similar syncs are done via iTunes. I'd recommend it.

AKROBAT  Hi Fuellemann,

Thanks for your interest. I had 2 phones: both Sony Ericsson - a W550i and a W850. The W850 could sync everything except the calendar function. Although I had it set up to transfer iCal events etc nothing would show up on the phone after syncing.

The other issue is with the W550. According to your site it is a supported phone but the program keeps telling me it's not. Tried it on my PPC running Tiger and my Intel MacBook running Leopard, both clean install of the demo version. Each time setup assistant won't recognise the phone. Both phones were set up normally in the Apple Bluethooth.

DB  warning, the above link is to the 2.0 version... if, like me, you already have 201 then this will actually be a downgrade ! it would be helpful if nova-media labeled their installers with version #'s instead of using just the generic name. If you already own this then best to launch the app and do the update from the help menu.

HRDLICKA  In February '08 I tried Fonelink and it stayed on my computer two hours. Unstable, not being able to keep connection with the phone, half destroying my address book.

When version 2.0 appeared in MUPROMO, I gave it another chance and 20 minutes after installing it I bought it. It's been very difficult for me to keep my N95 8GB synchronized with my iMac, using iSync and Nokia Media Manager for Mac (hope it is correct name) was pain in the $#@. Now I do not need to think about it any more. All is synchronized and backed-up automatically, updating my music collection in the phone works like a charm, I can't say anything wrong...

ROBDXB  This is an excellent application that has saved me a huge amount of time and effort.

I just purchased an Apple iPhone and needed to transfer over 900+ contacts from a Nokia 9300, which isn't compatible with the Mac iSync programme.

Using Bluetooth, all contacts, photos, ringtones, audio and calender events were imported onto the Mac. It was then a simple step to drag all the contacts into the Address Book and the calender events into iCal.

From there they loaded onto the iPhone though iTunes. No information was lost and it was all in the correct format.

I couldn't ask any more from this programme and it was worth every penny!

FUELLEMANN  Dear Halldorg,

we tried to reach you for several days and you did not respond. You changed to a new Mac and you claimed FoneLink could not be activated. When we asked for you to give us the Hardware ID (The unique "name" of any Apple computer), it was "00000000". This is not an Hardware ever used for a product by Apple which goes on sale and therefore any program using a Hardware ID for registration will malfunction on your Computer. Then we apologized for this inconvenience and asked you to send us the system profiler file, so that we can check if there is a malfunction either on your motherboard or on the software or if you are using a program to "cloak" this hardware ID. We are still waiting for your response and until you e-mail us, we can *not* help you in any way. So if you change your mind, send an e-mail to mac@novamedia.de.

**...

SNOZDOP  Well, I want to like this program, so decided to give v1.0.1 a try. Only one of my previous comments has been address (Time Tunnel window closing).

Anyway, I tried to overlook the UI and attempted to use the program.

Here are the bugs I found within 30 minutes:

(Tested with Sony Ericsson W610 and K510)

Organizer > Contacts

- All phone numbers appear in Japanese characters

- Home & Work addresses are not displayed in correct order

- Home & Work addresses are truncated

- Birthday shows completely wrong date & is truncated

- Email addresses are truncated

- When connecting to the phone a second time, it doesn't load contacts from the phone, you have to press 'Refresh from phone' for them to show up.

- Contact Notes are truncated

Organizer > Events & Tasks

- Tasks do not show date and time of reminder

Organizer > Bookmarks

- Gives error: "An unspecified error occurred. Location: Bluetooth communication. Error: Can't find explanation (-103) on K510i

- K510i says "Session failed. Invalid server response"

- Works ok with W610i

Mobile Finder

- Device Inbox is clickable, but does nothing

- Occasionally its possible to have both Pictures & Videos highlighted together

The method of deleting a 'known device' is not obvious.

The application has unexpectedly quit 3 times on the Connection Center screen

So, this is most definately not worthy of a 1.0 release. It is very buggy, which makes it unusable for me. It's a real shame, because if it worked well, and the UI was improved dramatically, it would be great.

FUELLEMANN  Hi gryphonent,

the 6230 can not be supported - this phone can not understand the necessary commands ;-( This is the reason it is not listed in the compatible phones list. Be sure to check this list first ;-))

But the K800i works completly - we are using it here ourselves. So is looks like another program is using the BT port (Address Book, Bluephone, BT-Fileexchange). Please close this program first then run FoneLink.

Oh yes - we do have a support ;-) So please, if you take time to write a review here, please take time to contact our support as well. Thus we get your K800i much faster ;-))

GRYPHONENT  Jan,

Thanks for the reply. Truly appreciated. Sorry I didn't spot that the 6230 is not supported. However, the K800i just doesn't work either. I did a restart, ran FoneLink... and it didn't find the mobile. I then downloaded PhoneAgent and it had no problems finding the K800i. I quit PhoneAgent, went back to FoneLink and the only gadget that shows is... my iPod Nano. Quit FoneLink again, back to FileExchange... and no problem there either. Whatever the bug: FoneLink doesn't list my Bluetooth enabled mobile. As I said, I will come back and do another test run before settling on an app. But so far PhoneAgent is somewhat more reliable.

NICKPILL  Novamedia once again released a great software everybody has been waiting for.

The software is easy to use and very intuitive.

You can finally easily edit all your data on your cellphone (no comparison to iSync which has not that many options as FoneLink does).

I have been using Nokia phones for about 15 years. And this is the software I have always been waiting for; since Nokia was unable to port the Nokia PC Suite to the Mac.

SNOZDOP  Downloaded this and been playing with it for a few hours...

It's an interesting and potentially useful concept, mixing features from MacMedia's PhoneAgent and Mira's BluePhoneElite, however, I can't help thinking that this is much more a 0.x beta release than a final 1.0 release.

There are lots of inconsistencies in the UI, wording used, spelling and grammatical errors, and a few bugs.

For instance, on opening the app for the first time it instructs you to "Please click on the Setup Wizard to add a new device...", however, there is nothing labelled "Setup Wizard" anywhere on screen or in the menus, nor any obvious button to click.

By rolling over the graphic in the center of the window you get a grey box fade in. This area, apparently, is the place to click! Nothing like a normal Mac UI button.

Then after clicking this 'area', it opens a window called "FoneLink Assistant" (not "Setup Wizard").

I appreciate that the developers are not native English speakers but there are too many grammatical errors and spelling mistakes throughout. Why not get a few native English speakers to test and correct all these errors before releasing the product? It would hugely improve the professional look as currently it appears quite amateurish.

Examples: "To link you mobile phone, please activate bluetooth on the computer and the mobile to."

And, "quering device" instead of "Querying Device..."

When previewing file information some of the info labels are in German.

The user interface is all over the place. There is no consistency whatsoever, either to itself, or other Mac applications.

- Nothing lines up (text, borders, window edges)

- No consistency to fonts, sizes and weights used

- Inconsistent rollover/click feedback on icons

- The left-hand panel of the 'Mobile Finder', 'Organizer' and 'Media Center' windows are all different, even though they display similar info.

It appears the designers have attempted to 'borrow' various bits of UI design from various other Mac applications. But in doing so, they have combined them into a Frankensteins monster mish-mash of styles.

The main window is vaguely iTunes style, but has 'aqua' gadgets on the grey background, unlike iTunes.

The font used in the icon, list and column views changes size and font when you change views, unlike the Finder (and the icons are wrong and placed awkwardly).

The Volume slider, Play button and Time indicator again, are similar to iTunes/QT, but not consistent and poorly drawn. However, in the 'NovaMediaBrowser' window, the iTunes/QT-style Play button IS used.

Progress bars appear overlaid in semi-transparent rounded corner boxes and are not Mac-standard, and appear to be poorly imitated 'Aperture'-style dialogs.

Headings in the Phone Settings page are in green rounded rectangles, which I have never seen in any Mac application, nor anywhere else in FoneLink!

There seems to be no way to close the "Time Tunnel" window after opening it (no close gadget), and the design of this window is obviously a poor rip-off of Apple's "Time Machine" interface.

The designers should seriously look at the Apple UI Guidelines or other well-designed Mac applications for inspiration (Xtorrent springs to mind).

There are clearly a few bugs that need to be sorted out too.

It doesn't read/show contact photos assigned to Contacts in the phone and viewed in the Organiser section.

I like the idea of the program, but it looks too much like one of the many badly designed Windows applications trying to imitate a Mac application, rather than a true Mac app.

I would purchase it, but can't bring myself to use it anymore. The UI just annoys my eyes too much!
