GLION  hello everyone, if there are any complaints or suggestions, please send them to the appropriate channel. People who support this project make it all the time and their response it was quick.

If you have any questions, please ask me. Use the feedback panel. Or send email to the address that appears on my macupdate.com'profile page.

macupdate.com said something right: "Please backup your claims with specific examples or reasons." and if you read the comments, many of them are really out of place (without a reason to be). And the others have been resolved (I hope).

OZFEVER  Nine negative and one positive (5 star?) comments and yet this app is given a 5 star rating. Seems like a skewed rating system to me.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Not skewed at all. If you noticed, only one person that posted used the star ratings, the other posts were just comments. No stars.

More than obvious. Not skewed. The persons who posted negatively simply opted to not use the star rating.

CONVERGENCESITE  I see nothing here that cannot already be done by Apples own Mail.app

An addition to Apples Mail.app like stationary seems more appropriate and will accomplish much more.

GLION  Massive Mail was created with the idea of easing the task of sending invitations, newsletters, congratulations to a group of people without having to hand write the same message for each of them. You just have to write a single message using the "tags" that you consider appropriate and Massive Mail will take care of customize on the fly the rest of the messages.

These tags are the variables that Massive Mail will replace with the actual data of your contacts, email, nickname, birthday, and so on.

So if you write: Dear ABFirstname. The final message will be: Dear John Doe. and the same for each person in the group.

Certainly you can do this with Mail.app, but you would have to "hand write" the same message again and again for all individuals in the group. This task can be very exhaustive depending on the size of the group.

Respectfully I still don't see it.

If I create a "Group" in my Apple Address Book (which s what the Apple Mail.app runs from) and lets call it "the best in Manufacturing) and I then drag all the names that I wish to send to into that group then I can simply send one e-mail to that group.

It is my choice whether or not just the Group Name or all the names show in the distribution.

True???

GLION  Hello CONVERGENCESITE, the idea is that recipients will not see that the message was sent to a group of people. The idea is that they see that the message was "indivial", "personal."

I am sure that you have received this kind of message. In the header of the message appears only your email address, but in fact the message was sent to many more people with just a few clicks of a mouse.

Try Massive Mail so you see what I am talking about.

NIGEL2112  If the lazy developer had put any less effort into his iWeb written website it would be blank.

Couldn't even bother with release notes??

Then I won't bother trying 'Massive Mail'.

MAC MAIL  Totally don't know what this application is good for.

If anyone wants to customize any email (like I always do), it can be done easily with Thunderbird, SeaMonkey or any Mozilla mail application. Actually, they can do way more than this just another small time Massive Mail.

That's my 2 cents!

DNELSON  The developer's website only gives the option to download version 0.7. Also, when clicked, the link goes out to some blog of some sort instead of downloading the file.

What are the new changes? They aren't on the developer's website or here on MacUpdate.

KRIONI  Well, I did a search to find the developer. Softpedia has the following:

Developer: Dante Palacios

Website: http://mac.softpedia.com/

Then I did a Google search for his name: "Dante Palacios" and discovered that there is a user here at MacUpdate with that real name: Glion

User Page: http://www.macupdate.com/users/Glion

His email is there, too. It would make sense for him to put up a free website somewhere. Perhaps someone should email him to suggest that.

INGVO  you can fix it yourself by doing the following: after downloading you get a file "Massive Mail.dmg.bz". Just rename this to "Massive Mail.dmg" it will ask you if it should use .dmg and you say yes. Now it is mountable. Cheers

DNELSON  I got those errors, too.

The errors are exactly how they display in the error dialog box.

On program launch...

AppleScript Error:

MOK.IN.TOUCH™  Yeah, that's exactly what I got. And then most of the people's names and email addresses are mis-matched. Most of them, and all.

Well, this application is not for me then.

GLION  Thank you for tha bug report TereNovo!... ok...

Delete Massive Mail.app and Massive Mail.plist from your system.

And please try again with this version (0.8.2)... I found some of the reasons of this bugs and... hope that the app works correctly again...

MOK.IN.TOUCH™  0.8.1 or 0.8.2, don't matter anymore. AppleScript error is gone but it still messing up my addresses.

I guess I've wasted enough time on this. Moving on! This application is not for me for sure.

DNELSON  I haven't downloaded 0.8.2 yet, but 0.8 has Sparkle errors like I said. Before I download 0.8.2, are those errors fixed? They are likely caused by no URL specified in the Info.plist file, or it is incorrectly inserted. If there isn't a website for you to host your XML file on (the one that specifies the current version) then update checking might not be right for Massive Mail. There are some free hosting services that you might be able to host it on...

Sep 25 2007

DNELSON  OK. Never mind. I just downloaded it and the Sparkle error is still there. It worked in version 0.7 I think.

I'm still getting one AppleScript error.

While opening the preferences...

AppleScript Error:

NSUnknownKeyScriptError (7)

Those preferences are sure giving you trouble!

Sep 25 2007

MOK.IN.TOUCH™  I've tried it one more time on this 0.8.2 and everything seems alright now. No more AppleScript error, no more addresses messing up. I suppose is the preference file to be blamed. I trashed the preference file and restart the app. and everything's running normal.

What do I know anyway?

DNELSON  My bad... I forgot to delete the preferences file...

THATS solved, but Sparkle is not working like I said.

It's turning into a great app little by little. If you fix the one remaining bug I can see so far, it should be just about 1.0!

DNELSON  Developer, if you want to fix the Sparkle bug, I know the problem:

There is a problem with the XML file that contains the update information. Did you create it exactly how it said to in the Sparkle readme document?

This is how I made mine (mine works perfectly). It is only an outline...:

DNELSON  There are a few errors in that. Sorry.

First of all, it should be: "application/dmg" instead of "application/zip".

Secondly, its not indented, so it's hard to see what goes where. It was originally indented, by MacUpdate didn't process it correctly.

DNELSON  Very good application, but there isn't an email address listed for us to send icon ideas to.

I came up with one, but it's not very good. People will get it confused with Mail. If the developer provides an email address, I could send it to him.

Overall, the application is great!

One thing it's missing, now that I think about it, is it needs the ability to check for updates. I definitely recommend Sparkle if you decide to do that.

Oh, and is there a website? It's not listed here...

DNELSON  Yes, this version did take care of all of the issues! Thanks! I can send you the icon. It's only the application icon, and it's not that creative. You said that it needed icons for everything, but I don't see anything beyond the application icon. Your toolbar icons are great!
