SCOTTGSMITH62  If you have issues with this software, you will never get the company to respond to you. I have purchased the software, and I have had an issue with my registration code.

After FIVE emails to these folks, they have never responded to even one of them. How is that for crappy customer service.

Even if the software were written well, which it is not, you someone who is going to stand by their product and help the user when they need help. These people will not do that.

Specifics:

I would like to say that I had actually used the software, and could comment on the ease of use, the stability, etc... but since these folks have effectively stolen my money and will not respond, I am more than comfortable giving them a 1 on all points.

Stay away from this company.

RYO  Hi there,

I apologize for the delay of the respond, as we did receive your email yesterday at 2:36 AM. It was the only message regarding to this activation code issue that we've received, so apparently your other 4 messages were blocked somehow.

I apologize for not responding to the issue you're experiencing, but it is not very fair for you to say "we stole your money" just because of the 48 hours. I would sincerely ask you to modify your comment a little bit because I think we deserve that. And we do strive to assist our users (not just customers) as much as possible. Due to the fact that we're only a two-man team, we can't promise the time it takes to respond but we do try to reply within 5 minutes in most cases.

Again, please kindly consider to adjust your comment a little bit. Detailed respond to your question has been sent to you via email.

Thank you for your business, and understanding.

Ryo.

Will post back about the alt server when it's ready.

KPOWICK  This program will be useful to a certain type of person, but I'm not one of them. What I mean by this is that the "unique" interface is more "artsy" than businesslike. I felt there was a lot of wasted space due to overly large fonts in some places. Other points noted below:

If you don't link files added as external resources, you'll be doubling up on storage as merely dragging and dropping them results in a straight copy, which also means you could easily end up with two versions of the same file if you edit one outside of Pagico. I think that the default for file drag-drop operations should be to link them as an external resource, or at least make that a preference.

On a couple of occasions I had problems with the user interface becoming unresponsive for certain actions. Only relaunching the application corrected the issue.

While it does come with an uninstaller, it does not uninstall everything (Thank God for Tracker and XScan from RixStep). Some files/directories even required admin level access (SUDO) to remove. Not nice.

For reference, I'm running OSX 10.6.1 on a early 2009 MBP 15" with 4GB RAM

RYO  Hi there,

Although I can't comment too much on the "artsy" side of the UI, I do want to point out that you can link to files rather than duplicating them by pressing and holding the "Option" key while dragging. Adding a preference option for it might be helpful and I'll see what I can do on that.

Regarding to the uninstaller issue, we'll definitely fix that. Thanks for pointing out.

Best regards,

Ryo

RPPHOTO  Just a pleasure to use, and too beautiful for words. This version is extremely easy to navigate and get use of, highly recommended. The only thing missing for me is the lack of a way to prioritize or manually put into order my timeline projects, but I've figured out workarounds for the time being.

POMARES  Have used Notebook and DevonThink for a while. Both of them I selected for their in-line linking features, despite their ugly interfaces. DevonThink 2 is coming out soon and looks a little better, but Pagico is simply gorgeous and it is a big deal to me.

I found Pagico's inline linking features to be its only weakness as far as data management is concerned. I want to be able to select a piece of text and make it a link to another topic. That is not possible in v.3 and the developer indicated that while they agreed that this would be the ideal way of doing inline-linking, they had not been able to develop this feature.

The way Pagico handles the cataloging of files is simple and elegant. And v.4 is supposed to make it even better. Pagico will take in just about any file you give it.

It is cross-platform. Moving to or from Windows, moving to or from Mac, moving to or from Linux is seamless. I can't think of any other PIM program that will do that for you.

Did I say the interface is gorgeous and intuitive? Well, it IS a big deal.

Now, Pagico does more than just help you organize your files, it also handles contacts and to-do lists. I use Things to manage my projects and tasks. It follows the GTD principles more closely. Pagico, with workarounds, will give you almost eveything GTD you need but you can tell that it is not meant to be a task management program primarily.

Finally, to me the most attractive feature of Pagico (besides it's beautiful interface ?) is the way it uses tags to catalog your files. It's Tag browser, named TagExploré, is very intuitive. It took me a while to figure out how it works, but now that I do, it feels like the model that matches the most closely the way I organize things in my head. Not just simple and elegant, it is very powerful!

SCOTTGSMITH62  This app does have some promise, but it falls short in a couple of areas.

The first issue I had with the application was a general sense of disorder. Part of it was related the fact that general application conventions have been put aside somewhat in order to be original. That's all fine and good, but when you have to spend a considerable amount of time to get beyond that "originality" to get things done, it defeats the purpose in a information management program.

The second issue I had with this, is solely related to price. These folks are really proud of their product. For what this application does, it does at a very high price point; i.e., there are a lot of applications out there that do more than this one for the money... just do a little searching.

I really do not think that this is worth your hard-earned money, given the high price and cluttered nature of the application.

THEPRINT  This app offers some really nice features, that I as a small business owner had been looking for. I was thrilled when I started using it, but eventually found that the way it was organized, didn't fit with my way of working. The flow just wasn't there. This is just me being kinda picky, so I'm not blaming the software itself for that.

My problem came, when I decided to remove the app from my computer. I had no idea about the inner workings of Pagico, but I soon had to learn, because of the Abyss webserver, that Pagico installed alongside. I was unable to remove Pagico, because the server was still running. It took me some research to find out what was going on, and how to remedy it. All in all, I would say it took me about half an hour to uninstall an application. I might as well have been using a PC.

In conclusion, Pagico might be good for some, but not for me. Either way, don't expect a smooth uninstall, if you decide to go with something else.

As for creating a better uninstall and updating information, that's awesome! Two thumbs up.

I would have probably sent an e-mail with my problem, had I not been able to solve it myself. Like I said, it took me about half an hour to figure out; usually you have to wait longer than that to get e-mail response. :)

RYO  Hi, yes! Of course!

Actually we've JUST added an uninstaller application to our latest build. Please take your time, download it again from our website, install it, then you'll see the uninstaller. Use it to uninstall safely and quickly.

Or, if you don't want to go through the hassle again, you can just trash the "Pagico" folder in your "Applications" folder, then restart your computer before emptying the trash (you wouldn't be able to empty it without restarting).

Hope that clarifies!

Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience of not having the uninstaller at the first place.

We've just double checked the file downloaded from our server, that after the installation, the "Uninstall Pagico" application is there, in the Pagico folder.

PEPINPOMME  This application install an "abyss web server" on your mac. During the install i think you can ask the user if he want or not this new server on his mac.

This server is on the port 8888 which is the dafault port used by other applications like mamp => conflict.

I haven't the userid and password of this new server...

For me, this new server can act as a backdoor.

I received no answer for two previous mails sent on your web site...

ZX81  I have downloaded the trial version and ended up buying Pagico because I had started using it for the "real world" and found it incredibly useful. I still find it confusing sometimes (Difference between "activities" and "tasks") and am waiting for screencasts, but I may have finally found THE application to help me manage contacts, tasks, data ... it has tags, smart folders, a task planner, it is compatible with iCal and -soon, hopefully- will manage notes sent via email.

The develpoers are very resposive and active (An Ubuntu version appeared recently on their site).

SIRLAWRENCE  I've been using OneNote on my Windows PC and using this product was very similar. In some case very intuitive and somewhat easier to use than OneNote. After one week, I'd consider converting to this application but it needs better export options.

Pros:

Easy to setup and use.

Easy integration with application links.

Easy to navigate and search topics.

Cons:

Doesn't export to PDF, it only exports to website HTML format in a presentation style. Not great format for sending to other people.

Very promising start for an application that will soon find popularity with the convergence of content coming with data, search and content management.

I can't speak to any of the Apache issues.

MATTLY  I want to feel like I can give this a shot, but:

1) it has an installer that asks for administrative rights

2) said installer installs stuff at the root level of the hard drive

3) it modifies my apache config without my permission

4) it modifies my php.ini config without my permission

5) it does not include an uninstaller to reverse these modifications to my system

6) it requires an email address for its "trial"

no thank you. The author's organization doesn't have the reputation to deserve the first one, and #s 2-5 are unforgiveable for mac apps.

RYO  Pagico was first developed for Windows, and then migrated to Mac platform, so it's not following the application guideline from Apple.

But please know that we're improving this with our every effort.

Regarding your comments:

1. Installer ask for administrator's password

Pagico needs to modify your system configurations so this is a requirement.

2. Install data on the root volume

Will be fixed in the near future

3. Modify apache config (httpd.conf)

No, it does NOT modify apache config file.

4. Modify PHP.ini

Yes, it has to modify PHP.ini to make Pagico work. But we'll make the installer more intelligent so that modifying your php.ini won't break your current php applications.

5. Uninstaller

Will be added.

6. Ask for "email" when initiating demo

You can write anything here. It doesn't has to be valid if you don't want to enter your email address. We use this email address to provide better customer service.

Hope you'll understand that we're trying to do the best for you all.

TESZERACT  Having installed and played with the system for a day or so, I can call Pagico incredible.

It's like the many notepad/scrapbook applications out there - notably software like VooDooPad and wiki software, but the addition of powerful calendar, address book drag 'n drop linking.

It seems to me that have taken the Mac's combo of Apache+Php+Cocoa and presented the system in a beautiful package. All this means I can install this on my server at home, and link to my database of personal information, to dos, notes and contacts from anywhere even on my web enabled pda.

The two main selling points for me are the access anywhere and multiple security levels.

CAVEAT!! The installation overwrites your php.ini file, and does not warn. This broke my localhost installation. Back up your php.ini file if you have made changes to it and do a comparison + update to get back to your original

Love the app otherwise.

ZO219  Promising, but I'm not sure of what. You pretty much end up with what seem to be small websites - which isn't bad. But for me, anyway, right now the learning curve isn't worth it .. I'm not sure about these one-app-does-all applications anyway ... and the developer needs to be very clear about his or her English. "Missions"? I don't think so.

Give it a try, and review it here. Seems to work beautifully ... whatever it is.
