HARV  Worked great me.

MS had a bug in the previous version. That said they would get on it and post a fix in the near future. And they did. Two weeks to publish a fix is not a record, but better than many and what I expected.

GOOF-OFF  I am not going to review it, because I don't intend to download it. I do have Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac, but with Open Office and Neo Office which are both free and will read anything Microsoft can produce, why would anyone even want to bother with anything from Microsoft?

LUTRA  I had the same experience reported by another- the 1.0.3 installer installs a program that calls itself 1.0.2. I had the same infinite auto-updater loop, too. Get Info reports that both files have an identical number of bytes- "Size: 19.1 MB on disk (18,029,228 bytes)". That's further proof that the new installer installs the previous version.

VIRTUALRUFFY  What typical microshaft crap! The previous versions typically wouldn't open any office 2007 documents at all -but neo office would. Now this version 1.0.3 installs... 1.0.2! I've downloaded it 3x and all claim to install 1.0.3 but the get info shows 1.0.2 w/2007 copyright. After install it auto activates the crappy ms auto updater which... offers 1.0.3 as a download! Say yes, download it and it goes into a never ending loop of download, install, offer to upgrade, download, install... Pathetic!

GEORGE PAPHITIS  I share the very same exasperating experience. Even the date on the updater is wrong 9/9/09! What were these guys smoking when they posted this update.

TIMELAWD  come on, isn't it kind of sweet that a major company is making one tiny little mistake. they are humans, who might be smoking I don't know what. let's be nice and let them know that we are happy that they post their updates here. let's give them a break. they are very busy trying to lay an egg in front of their broken window pane.

KOBALT  The usual M$ bloatware. Check out docXConverter (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23537/docxconverter)which, although not free and perhaps overpriced for some of us here, is a tenth the size and will save files in RTF that *can* be read by TextEdit and the like.

ILGAZ  Requires MS Office. Ever seen a worse abuse of "Open"?

XPLICIT  Crap! Installs additional useless stuff and creates RTF files that cannot be read by either TextEdit or Pages.

SCOTTISHWILDCAT  "allows you to convert Open XML files that were created in Office 2008 for Mac or Office 2007 for Windows so that you can open, edit, and save them in earlier versions of Office for Mac."

Where does it say anything about TextEdit or Pages?

JKT  RTF files should be readable by any text editing software. If they aren't then MS is doing something completely retarded to prevent from being so (as usual).

TIM.DEHRING  Works as advertised. Slow on a PPC machine, but this is on an 867MHz PowerBook so that's expected. No problems yet.

TIMGOEREE  I don't know what you're talking about. It clearly shows itself as a Universal binary on my system since beta 0.1, this version included.

If you're talking about Office 2004 itself then no, it will never be Universal, 2008 will be.

NEONBLUE2  I'm with XTAL on this, if this really is designed for Office 2004 users then it is also designed for people on Intel. It's as simple as ticking a box.

XTAL  No universal binary in 2007? This is a joke, right?
