MACARONE  Does this version finally enable identd?

The last time I tried Linkinus it was specifically for this feature, and not only was identd NOT enabled, but I couldn't connect to ANY network. At least my current client eventually connects after a delay of close to a minute.

CONCEITED  You may want to either enable identd systemwide on your Mac or tell Linkinus to wait logner beofre timing out and giving up on connecting, You can do so on a per-conncetion basis by typing /timeout 120 (for a 120s timeout).

YOUNKINT  What is it with Mac IRC client developers and greed? First Snak reneges on their promise of "free lifetime" upgrades, and now we have Linkinus charging nearly full price for minor upgrades. It's as though they *want* us to continue using open source software by shooting themselves in the feet with their pricing schemes.

This is too bad; I'd love to try Linkinus, but there is no way I will get caught up in some (evidently) annual fee just to use the latest bugfix of the software.

CONCEITED  Our company charges for major upgrades only and has never ever charged for minor upgrades. To clarify, the only upgrade that way ever paid was the major 1.x to 2.x upgrade (with a 50% discount for 1.x licensees, and a fully free 2.x upgrade for recent 1.x licensees). 2.0 was released more than two years after 1.0. All software companies have the exact same policy.

YOUNKINT  The reply by the developer is correct regarding upgrades, although I do not agree with the, "All software companies have the exact same policy" comment. I had erroneous information regarding Linkinus' update policy. I regret the error.

RAFMAN  I bought a license 2 month ago and now I'm forced tuo buy an upgrade license for version 2.0?

I got this as an answer from the developer: "You are not required to upgrade to 2.x at all."

I won't spend any money again on his app!

sorry, but this is not the way you treat clients after not updating your app for 1 year!

CONCEITED  If you have bought 1.3 'two months ago' (so on April 26, 2009), you get 2.0 and all 2.x updates free of charge. Please see our website and click the Upgrade button.

JIMK  FYI, version 2.0 is a paid upgrade (50% of the full price). This wasn't clearly mentioned on the main page, nor here in the update notice on 6/10/09.

SJK  And the full price here is currently $20.00 but it's actually 19.99€ (Euro) on the product site, which about $28USD.

ZQTA305  Very good UI. It is relatively straight forward and easy to use.

The only really important feature I am missing is the resume for file transfers.

And therefore I am back to XChat and jIRCii.

POLARIMETRIC  I love the interface of this application and it's by far the most enjoyable Mac-like IRC client I've used. X-Chat Aqua is too clunky for me, and I had some freakish problems with Colloquy. It's overall a great application for everyday IRC users. However, if you don't plan to buy this soon after you get the trial version, you may be unconvinced well before your 15 days are up regardless of how much you enjoy the application. I will probably purchase this software anyway, but the nagging employed by this application over the course of the 15-day trial is just plain disgusting. The first half or so, it'll be fine and you'll barely even notice, other than the "__ days left. Register today!" text at the top-right which I have no problem with. However, on the eighth day or so, Linkinus will start randomly harassing you to register the software with annoying pop-up messages redundantly alerting you that the software is indeed shareware and giving you two options: "Go", a link to register it, and "Not Yet", which you'd click to continue your trial peacefully... or so you'd think. In the last couple days of the trial, clicking the "Not Yet" button seems to, without warning, disconnect you from all of your IRC connections. It's this type of nagging and harassment from a trial version of software that convinces me not to buy it no matter how much I might love the application, and I can't imagine anyone else being too eager to purchase it after these alerts have annoyed them enough. Deactivating it after 15 days and telling the user to purchase or quit and having a little text thing at the top-right like you already do is more than enough, thank you.

MRELCEE  I really want to like this app. But it's just not ready for prime time. I even own a license for it but I'm back to xchat aqua for the foreseeable future..

MAGENTIS  Great to use for the most part. It's beautiful and isn't too much of a hog with resources like some other clients.

I really only have 3 issues. 1. No Auto-Reconnect. This is my main gripe. I want to remain connected! 2. No DCC-Chat. 3. Price. Seems a little high for an IRC client, but I'd have no regrets if it fixed my first (and eventually second) issues.

MBRICE  The client is easy to use yet powerful, very extensible and customizable. To top it all off, the developers and user community are friendly and helpful. It's perfect! It represents the best of what software should be. Well worth the price, even though I agree, IRC should be free. But even if it's not the IRC you're paying for, it's the simplicity, capability and feel that's worth the small fee.

RAZZ  This sure is a pretty program but the functionality is tortured. Take a look at IRCLE and see what a very powerful client can do. IRCLE is rather dated and the user interface could be improved but it is very solid. This program doesn't allow many IRC commands to be typed into the console. Why is it so restrictive? I also didn't find a way to get a full channel list. If it's there, it ain't obvious. Now, for you AIM and iChat chatters...this program is probably functional for you and maybe a tad confusing.

SHAWNYQ  Very nice first release. The preference dialog seems a little cluttered. I think many of them could be merged into one, such as Aliases and Shortcuts. Speaking of the aliases, the foward slash within the text input is unneeded. A foward slash must accompany any command anyways so I would leave it in the backend of the code.

I haven't had time to test all the functionality of the application, but if it does all of what it claims in the preferences, this has the potential to be competition for Colloquy. However, with Colloquy being free, the competition is stiff.

LINKINUS  @SLIME73: Hello and thanks :) Have you checked out the Styles & Colors preference pane? You can also create your own style with the Style SDK (if you know HTML and CSS). If you were referring to other colors, please let me know, I'd be glad to add them. Thanks!

SLIME73  Yeah, I checked out the preference pane, and unfortunately I don't know the first thing about CSS or HTML so I don't know what the style SDK is capable of. It seems the problem I'm experiencing is different than I first thought. There seems to be something wrong with the colours in Linkinus. For example, here's a couple snippets of text in X-Chat Aqua: http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6913/picture3jn3.jpg and http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2734/picture12hn2.jpg

Now, here's the same text in Linkinus: http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9821/picture2rr8.jpg and http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7513/picture4ys9.jpg

LINKINUS  Hello. Thank you for this feature request. A multi-window mode will definitely be implemented in time for when version 1.1 comes out.

I'd really appreciate it if you could give me a little more details about what you'd like to see, so that I can know in which direction to go.
