CHAS_M  Just wanted to mention how pleased I am that the core has been brought "up to date" and thanks again for this wonderful game playing tool. I converted the ROM from my old "Elevator Action" game and now can play it anytime. You have saved me a fortune in quarters! :)

KEYTARHERO  Hello,

First, I'd like to thank you for keeping this going. This is great!

One questions I have is whether or not their is an option to consolidate the list to only the ROMs stored in the ROMs folder?

To remedy this in the meantime, I've tried simply "favoriting" the ROMs I do have, but they won't all stay in the favorite list. Is there a sure way to keep these ROMs "favorited" at startup?

Another question/suggestion I have is I've noticed that some games audio is much much lower than others. Is there an option I'm overlooking (similar to iTunes soundcheck) that will make all games the same level. If not, I think this would be a great thing to implement. I don't know if it's something easy to do, but I don't remember differences in audio levels in the past using macmame.

I've also noticed that those same select games that play at lower volumes are the same that occasionally unexpectedly quit at the startup. But the times they do startup fine, they run perfectly with no further unexpected quits during gameplay (just the volume issue). Is there something on my end that may be causing this, or is this a typical prob?

Again, thanks for keeping this going.

Great work

RATTUS  Essential for old school Mac gamers! Although initial setup could be a bit clearer (requires a full audit then individual audits for games you add to the data folder).

Plenty of games can be found at planetemu.net

BROCK SAMSON  Extremely slow to recognize changes in the ROM directory... requires a full ROM audit. Very painful.

SMACTRON  Is this Leopard-compatible? And is it made by the same crew are MacMAME? Which one would you say it better?

MACUPDATE ADMIN  Leopard compatible: Don't know.

Same devs as MacMAME: No.

Which is better: MacMAME has apparently ceased development, the last release is years old. MAME OS X is under current development. Check the developer's website.

ZEBA  If you look at the release notes you can see that Leopard is mentioned, so I guess it's compatible.

IRONMAN  In short, MacMAME was never announced as dead by its author B. Oliver .. but we could say it is discontinued. So MAME OSX is the future (roughly)

SEBEHK  It is good to see that the UI is more Mac-like. Now we can use the audit as a list of what games to play, much like MacMAME. And, finally, it doesn't quit when you want to switch to another game, and takes you back to the list of available games (again, just like MacMAME).

EMULAUNCH  I have been very impressed with the progress on MAME OS X. Dave has done a great job at keeping the newest Mame source up to date. If your roms are not working, then more than likely they simply are just not up to date. The MAME core has changed quite a bit in the last year since MacMAME was lat updated so it is unlikely that it will ever be updated. Dave is pretty actively updating this app and is found on the mame forums quite a bit.

JOELSCHMIDT2  Mr.Ash obviously did not bother to take the time to learn how this version of MAME works before posting his review. In both MacMAME and MAME OS X, joystick configuration is handled on a per game basis. When you start a game, press the tab key to access the input setup menus . And the reason that "half my ROMs do not work", is because Mr.Ash is most likely using an outdated ROMset. MAME is a constant work in progress and as a result, there will be changes to what files are needed for a given game to work in every new release. ALWAYS make sure you are using the most recent ROMset version of your favorite games to ensure that they continue to work.

JOELSCHMIDT2  If you do not like having to manually type in the name of the game you want to play, I suggest downloading EmuLaunch.

CHAS_M  VERY excited about this, early trials look very promising, thanks so much!!

However, one quibble: I would really, REALLY like to be able to search for games from a list using the actual name of the game. At present, the "list" checkbox is blank and I must type in the actual ROM name (which is often, but not always, similar to the game name but just a bit different).

Surely it would not be hard to have the program "grab" the list of ROMs by their real titles on startup?

Thanks again!
