GARY JAMES  Very good grabbing tool and it is free too.

But it seems it doesn't capture all video I found. Some do, some do not. A pitty.

In the it is simple like it should be with a nice interface.

BILL SANDIFER  Some of us 'whining dopes' donated to Tube TV and would really like to continue using it. I have the same problem, and it occurs to me it began after I updated Safari, certainly not a definitive relation. I downloaded a fresh Perian app, and it didn't help.

I emailed support@chemoosoft.com and got an undeliverable return. Anybody have a fresh contact, or is he out of business?

JOSEPHA  Loved TubeTv and enjoyed it for couple of years. Donated for using it. Lately I have noticed an error massage whenever I try to download a video. I wish someone will explain why this is happening and whether there is a solution. If they want more money, then they should let us know. All this is very frustrating.

HONKYTONE  LOVE this app, have been using it for a couple of years, but all of a sudden it doesn't work for me. I get the download status window, it immediately tells me it's "finished downloading," but the saved .flv file is empty. What's up?

HONKYTONE  The solution I've found so far has been to use Real Downloader instead, but I don't like it as much. Hoping someone might reply. No luck yet from the developer's site.

CHAOTICPIXEL  Worked as advertised. UI isn't anything special, then again, it doesn't need to be. Downloads quick and converts to a couple of different formats in a couple of minutes.

DRDUL  I tried just about every YouTube downloader, and TubeTV was the one that I stayed with. I wanted one that was easy enough for my wife to use, yet offered enough options for downloading and converting. I like that the TubeTV window emulates a browser (rather than the iTunes-type windows of some other apps) and that URLs can be easily grabbed from Safari. I also liked that it worked, which surprisingly wasn't the case with a few other apps I tried (for various reasons, they choked on the high-quality FLV video I was testing them with, whereas TubeTV downloaded and converted the video without a problem).

ASH435  TubeTV is great - I've had it for a while.

I recently installed the Safari 4 beta and I don't seem to get any sound with my movies.

Is there a connection here? (Obviously if there is, it's my problem, but I thought someone would like to know).

XENOPHILE  Fast and responsive developer. This is the first time I've griped about an app on MacUpdate, only to see my gripes fixed on the next version!

I'd still like a widget in Safari's toolbar which will save flash movies to disk. Perhaps it could open a window or pane with a list of flash movies the user can select for downloading. Since Safari's Activity Viewer already gives this info, it seems like it would be easy to add such a widget. I know it's possible to double-click the flash movie address in the Activity Viewer to open it in a new window, and then copy the address from the address bar in the new window, and paste it into a downloading app, but it's a tedious solution.

My only other request for TubeTV would be for a more fully-featured download manager, but that's really outside the realm of freeware - although I wouldn't hesitate to pay for TubeTV if updates continue to rock as hard as the last one.

THE_JUDGE_G4  With this useful app I am now able to convert other .flv files downloaded from other sites than YouTube.

TubeTV can convert the files into a playable and seek-able format that iTunes and QuickTime can handle.

MOTORCITYMAC  Stop whining dopes! Go *pay* for some other app that does the same, then you'll have reason to complain...

This app is FREE - it WORKS - and the developer even went the extra mile for auto-conversion to whatever final filetype you want. So maybe you wait for a few extra steps, big deal. You got a better way to code it? For free? Then please- do it!

Thanks for this clean and clever app! The developer truly bleeds six colors! Great effort, and I'm sure it will only get better. (I'll bet this v1.0 already has)

XENOPHILE  It's great to be able to save flash video to my Mac, and it's a nice touch that TubeTV can automatically convert the video to mpeg4 after downloading. Unfortunately, I found a few problems with TubeTV.

First, the web browser is redundant. Why include it when I can use a real browser without any browsing limitations? And the search field for YouTube is also unnecessary, since I can just go to the YouTube website using my browser and search for videos (and open multiple videos in multiple browser tabs). A far better solution would be either a Safari add-on or standalone app that simply grabs flash videos from Safari and saves them on the local HD.

The real flaw with TubeTV is that it cannot "grab" flash video from the browser cache, not from Safari and not even from it's own browser! If I load a flash video in TubeTV's browser, view it, and decide I want to save it, TubeTV must download the entire video again. This is a waste of time and bandwidth, especially for dial-up users.

All in all, a nice little app. If it were shareware, I'd consider it's shortcomings a deal-breaker, but as freeware it's a welcome addition to my hard drive. Thanks!

HUSTY  Wish I could enjoy this fantastic sounding app. I plug in the address for the video I want to save but TubeTV consistently crashes in no more than two seconds after I click the save button, on a brand new Macbook Pro. Used these types of apps before but no such issues - odd. Would love a solution!

LAINSNAVI  Great app. I think there should be an option to prevent the Progress window from becoming frontmost whenever a new download or conversion starts. It can get pretty aggravating if you're downloading or converting a bunch of videos.

HOBY  Two problems:

1. Many times, clicks inside the main window cause the whole page to refresh. This makes it hard to interact with the movie playback.

2. Cosmetic bug - the multiple downloads window doesn't scale to the right size to avoid showing a scroll bar.

CHIMOOSOFT  Unfortunately, a problem currently exists with Perian version 1.0 which prevents TubeTV from exporting flash videos (flv) to other formats such as H.264 m4v for AppleTV and iPod. If possible, please use Perian version 0.5 for the time being (download link on the TubeTV web page), and send the folks at Perian a note asking them to fix this!

HOBY  So far this is the best flv download solution I've used. Granted, I haven't used any of the pay-for apps but it doesn't seem like something one should pay for.

I have two things to suggest for TubeTV:

1. Multiple Downloads -

It would be great to be able to hit save on a video, navigate to other videos and hit save again, letting the downloads stack up. A preference for the max number of simultaneous downloads would be wonderful too.

2. Smart Transfer -

If a video has already downloaded (partially or completely) it would be a lot more efficient if the video was simply moved and renamed from its cache file location to the downloads folder, INSTEAD of what happens now, where hitting Save will download the video all over again.

MAC0852  This software is kinda pointless. Why do you need an application to help you download the FLV files from Youtube, DailyMotion, etc. when they already download to this folder?

/private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/

Just browse to a video, wait until it's fully downloaded, go to the path above using Shift-Command-G, copy the file wherever you want, name it what you want with a .flv extension.

And why transcode flv files to Quicktime (which makes the video quality worse than it already is), when you can easily view the FLV files in their native codec with this free Quicktime component?

CHIMOOSOFT  The point of the software is to save people the trouble of having to go hunt down movies and to simplify the conversion to H.264 formats for the iPod and Apple TV (flv files won't play on these devices unless you feel like hacking them).

If you want to do it the hard way, be my guest. Both methods are free. ;-)

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  Nice to see some free options. I launched it then saw it relied on Perian. I can't remember what it was exactly but I have uninstalled Perian due to a conflict with another CODEC. It would be nice if this didn't rely on Perian. The other options must rely on something else?

CHIMOOSOFT  Many of the other options use VLC under the hood for the conversions. QuickTime seems to do a better job from what I've seen, so some Perian or another QuickTime component which can import flv2 files is required.
