D9  Is everybody seeing this update? I've got both an Airport Exteme 802.11n and an Airpot Express that both state that 7.4.1 is the latest update and that no 7.4.2 is available to download.

What's up with this?

D9  Well, I finally got it to show up for my Express and then later for my Base Extreme. That said, it did absolutely nothing to improve my reception on either device, much less helping to extend it. I still have lousy reception and I'm only 8 ft. away from the the Express and 25 ft away from the Extreme.

A month ago this was a non-issue...thanks, Apple!

SLYDOGOZ  I recently updated the firmware in my time machine (to 7.4.1 I think), and now I can't connect. The airport on my MacBook spends all its time scanning but doesn't find my network; I can't even connect to the time machine by ethernet (I simply can't find a disk!) And now, I can't reset to factory (every time I start, the time machine tells me that there is a problem with the ethernet), and the ethernet link to the modem is now not operating.

Usually I am the biggest Mac fan, but this incident has really annoyed me. I may have to go out tomorrow, and get a basic airport express to act as a proxy until i can get the time machine issue addressed.

Has anyone else encountered anything like this?

WILE E.  I just allowed Airport Utility to check for, download, and then install the Firmware Update.

No problems here. Went without a hitch.

Total time took less than five minutes to check for the update, download it and restart the Airport Extreme.

BILLY THE BIKER  not needed?

I have a Time Capsule (7.3.2) and an Airport Express (6.3). In Preferences I have all the boxes checked for updating. If the amber light doesn't come on, does that mean I don't need the firmware update?

WILE E.  Did you open Airport Utility and check for the update under the Airport Utility Menu? That is where you learn if it is available to your setup.

BILLY THE BIKER  It worked this afternoon. I got a completely different response from this morning, when it appeared that I didn't need the update.

FRANKO  Updated both a first generation Airport Extreme (flat model previous to the Fast Gigabit) and the latest Airport Express without problems.

Restarting took a little longer so don't go pushing reset buttons or yanking the power plug. Let it be and it will flash green eventually.

Glad to see this update brings MobileMe Airdisk access (located as a tab under Advanced)

COMPLEX_PERSON  Typical apple, no fix for my airport express because its a little older with 802.11g. My iMac is maybe 5 feet away and looses its signal, I feel bad for everyone who spent $200 on apple's base station.

TURKCHGO  If you're having problems getting Time Machine to see you AirDisk, disconnect the disk from the AEBS and plug it into your Mac's USB port and launch Disk Utility and repair the disk.

After it repairs the disk plug it back into your AEBS and all should be well.

ZEALOT  Now allows USB drives connected to the Extreme to use Time Machine!!! Currently backing up to my Lacie 500GB Big Disk at 5+ MB per second! I still use Super Duper for bootable clones but it's nice to have AirDisk functionality back! Thanks Apple!!!

PSYCHOS  Upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.2.1. All of a sudden, I couldn't connect to my wireless network. Checked config, did a hardware reset, no go. I get that "Try Again" message from my MBP.

I normally use 5GHz N-only mode. However, 2.4GHz mixed mode and 5GHz A/N mixed mode work fine!

I tried turning off authentication, with no help. I even reverted back to 7.1.1, and the same problems continued. Right now I'm running with A+N support to get the damned thing working at all.

PSYCHOS  It turned out to be my own stupidity. I reinstalled my OS and didn't realize I had to re-run the Airport Extreme enabler as well, so I had no 802.11n support. Now if I could only get these throughput problems sorted out...

NICKD87  Damnit.. I was hoping it would be something different. I definitely have 802.11n enabled but I'm seeing exactly the same behaviour as you were.. not sure what to do next.
