AKROBAT  Dear Sir,

Thank you for contacting CallWave Customer Care.

CallWave is no longer offering an International SMS service. If you have a

CallWave account, you can no longer purchase international credits, but you

can still send SMS messages free to the US and Canada. However, in some

countries, we had to terminate accounts due to security concerns and

apologize to those impacted by this decision.

Feel free to contact us for further assistance and include previous

correspondences when replying so we can help you better.

Sincerely,

John McGill.

CallWave Customer Care Representative.

AKROBAT  Been using this for about a year or more.

In the beginning you were able to send unlimited SMS messages if you lived Stateside (I don't). International customers received 5 free SMS's per day... not bad.

Then the international freebies got dropped but the cost of the texts (240 for $20) is pretty impressive and I've been using it regularly... until today.

Locked out of my widget and account. Terminated for reasons unknown. Bit weird actually, since I've loads of credit on this thing. An email and/or explanation would have been nice...

TODD2000  I sent an email to that address, but have not received a reply. Do you have any idea why it wouldn't be working? I have Virgin Mobile if it makes a difference.

CALLWAVE_INC  COMMENTARY2002: We are sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with the change in Callwave’s SMS service. Unfortunately, due to overwhelming demand and costs, we are not able to keep international SMS sends free beyond the beta testing phase. Our service still provides the convenience of sending text messages from your computer and our flat fee international SMS rates are among the lowest available. Users can still send 10 free international messages. To send more you can purchase credits by clicking the message in the widget or going to callwave.com/credits

COMMENTARY2002  This widget has been a tremendous asset in family communications for me, but recently it has stopped working as indicated on the Callwave.com site.

I am no longer able to send ANY international texts for free, not the five that were previously alotted or the ten now supposedly available.

I have sent multiple notes to Callwave support but have not yet received any response.

Any help from Callwave on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

CALLWAVE   M Chang: Your CallWave authentication and PIN information lives within the widget, so when you "activate" the widget you are logging in and you will be able to see your text log without re-entering your PIN on CallWave.com. If you want the widget password protected on your desktop for security reasons, click on the "i" button in the bottom right, the widget will flip over and you can click Logout. Then anyone who wants to use the widget will need to log in with a mobile number and PIN. I hope this helps and thanks for using CallWave.

M CHANG  Callwave, you assertion is incorrect on my computer. I can go to your site, click on Logout , and get to the Login page. I then close the window, go to Safari > Preferences > Cookies and delete all cookies that have Callwave in the URL. I "Empty Cache" in Safari. Quit out of Safari. When I activate widget and click "Archive," it takes me to my logged in Callwave page with all of my messages listed.

DEFINITELY A SECURITY ISSUE.

CALLWAVE  Your CallWave text log is password protected. Even though our current system does not allow for deleting messages, your messages are not public and can't be accessed without your mobile number and your PIN. If your messages show when you click on "account" from the widget, CallWave is logging you in using cookies. You will see a logout{your email} message at the top right of your screen. If you are using a public or shared computer, be sure to log out of all password protected applications before leaving the computer unattended.

MS. R  I definitely agree with the concern about the logging of the messages. I was very, very disconcerted when I found out they were logging them to this account and I was not able to delete them. I think it's unfortunate because this is the best SMS widget that I have used as far as reliability and design. I really wish that they would have variable privacy settings. I don't like that someone would possibly be able to read my text messages so openly. I think this is definitely something to consider when using this widget. The widget itself is very useful and I hope that they seriously consider changing this logging feature, as it makes me feel as though I am compromising my own privacy in sending texts.

M CHANG  I sent two (wasn't sure first one went through) feedback messages to Callwave expressing my concern that every text message (and the number sent to) is logged and saved. You cannot delete them from Callwave's Web site or stop the logging.

Why is this a concern for me? ANYONE can get on my computer at work which as CallWave installed. The widget is not password protected, and in fact keeps your phone # and email address at all times. Click the new "Archive" button and it instantly takes you to your text archive. No password protection at all. Just your communications open to anyone. And I forgot to mention I work on a laptop.

I got two responses quickly (thank you, Callwave). Both of them can be summarized by this reponse:

"... Please be informed that currently you do not have the option to delete your text messages on your account. However your request will be forwarded to the appropriate department and given serious consideration and we will inform you about the changes...."

So if you're worried about your privacy, please send feedback to their site. I know the product is free, but privacy shouldn't be a compromise.

CALLWAVE  To Aljuk, our SMS widget is completely free for you to send text messages to your friends worldwide. Regular inbound text messaging rates apply for recipients in the USA and Canada. Just like if you were receiving a text message from another phone.

To Dbagdadi, currently there is no way to send a message to multiple numbers at once. We are constantly working on improving our widgets and your comments are appreciated.

CALLWAVE  BRUTHIAUX: I tried to duplicate your experience of mobile numbers being shortened in the text log without success. Please contact us at smssupport(at)callwave(dot)come so we can troubleshoot your account.

As far as selecting your own time zone, we are always looking at ways to improve this free service, we'll consider that feature for a future upgrade.

Thanks for using CallWave!

CALLWAVE  Hi MSJSTW, I am a product manager at CallWave, I am glad you are happy with the update to our SMS Widget. I understand you are having an issue with contacts running your widget with Amnesty Singles, however, I can not help you with functionality lost when our widget is converted in this way.

BRUTHIAUX  Works fine for me in Singapore. Two things, though, both to do with the log of calls I made. 1) Numbers get truncated to the last 5 digits. Could the entire number including country code be shown? 2) Allow for local time to be shown. Converting from Pacific Time requires major mental computation if you live anywhere else. Other than that, brilliant. People in Asia, especially younger ones, don't use email any more except for boring stuff like work and studies, and they can text so fast it's hard to keep up. This allows me to pretend to be young again and seriously into texting, just like them. :-)

TOMRAKEWELL  works fine for me, just one little issue: Even very short messages (about 110-120 letters) get split up into 2 or 3 parts. Why is this done?

CALLWAVE  Message splits are largely up to your mobile carrier. CallWave character limits are based on average carrier restrictions so the majority of messages will be one-part, but some messages are split. We are constantly working to make our free SMS service better for our customers, we appreciate the feedback. Stay tuned for further improvements and thanks for using CallWave!

MSJSTW  I love this wigdet and the service is amazing!!!

2 things though:

Version 3.4 still shows after the 3.6.1 update - but when you check with the website, it's all ok.

---|

I'm using Amnesty Singles, and I have to reload my contacts everytime I open up the widget - could that be solved somehow?

Anyways, thanks so much for this! It's great!

MCCLARTY  I am also in China, and I seem to be having the same problems as "amcan12" was having, but I haven't found the solution. I've waited days and still not verification code. Any ideas from the developer or "amcan12"?

BRAMR  I'm a Product Manager at CallWave.

M Chang: Text messages sent from the CallWave SMS service use your mobile number as the senderID. This is why you need to register.

Amcan12: I'm glad things worked out for you. Text messages sent by CallWave can be subject to the same carrier/country delays as messages sent from your mobile phone. Thanks for your understanding.

ODYSSEUS  Surely the widget could keep the return address instead of it being kept by Callwave. In addition, I find it disturbing that Callwave keeps a record of *all* SMS messages sent

CALLWAVE  Hi Marc, I am a product manager at CallWave. I wanted to let you know a little about our service and how we value your privacy. CallWave keeps return addresses to enable replies directly to your mobile phone, this way only messages you send from the widget are in your text log. This message log, much like any email account, is password protected and for your review only. No one can access this account without your permission and CallWave does not read or review these messages. We are working on adding edit features to your text log in future versions of our product.

Thanks for trying CallWave!
