AV Best FTP Manager. Ive tried a few of the big names on & off, and although not an intensive ftp user, this works and works very well for me to manage my Mobileme iDisk account. And it, as someone said, looks & feels like a Mac app should. The others are ugly in my opinion. Also like the droplets - a v.easy way to upload a file. Please continue to develop!! DR. GIRLFRIEND I bought this app as part of the December 2007 MacUpdate Promo Bundle and in all that time it has been steadily maintained and consistently improved by the developers, yet they haven't once asked for more money. Contrast that with two other great programs that were sold in the same bundle: 1. RapidWeaver, who months later, bumped up the version number and wanted an upgrade fee from its users. 2. Yep, who went for a ridiculously long amount of time (a year, I think) before doing any maintenance whatsoever on their app (so long, in fact, I wondered if it had been abandoned) and then recently had the nerve to bump the version up and also stick their hands out for an upgrade fee. Now don't get me wrong: I believe in supporting the company's whose products I use, but I also don't like to feel like I've been had. All three of these apps are excellent at what they do, but if you want excellence AND devs who are honest, hard-working, and care about their users, then look no further. ForkLift delivers. ForkLift is, imo, the best ftp app around and it's well-worth the investment. You will get your money's worth if you buy this app. (Version 1.7.5)

ICONZ113 Just bought this app and I love it, wish I tried it sooner. FTP, dual pane file browsing, batch rename, file splitting, uninstaller, synchronization. I used to use transmit, I think ill be using this in the future. Educational licenses are only 9 bucks too, cant beat that. Just email them and ask for an educational license promotion code to enter in when you make your purchase. (Version 1.7.4)

LARCENOUS I picked up this application in December of '07 in the MacUpdate bundle at that time, and honestly, I couldn't even tell you what other software was part of that bundle. I'm sure I probably still use some of it, but the one which has stood out over time since then has been ForkLift. Put simply, it ROCKS. It has very stable - and simple-to-understand connection operations for all protocols, but the truly killer feature is the ability to live-edit remote documents in any editor of your choice. This one feature is SO well-executed that it's worth the entire price of that app just for that alone. It looks, feels and acts like a Mac app; the folks at Binary Nights know when to lay off with tossing every feature under the sun into the mix, creating bloatware. This is quick, responsive, error-free (at least from my use of it; haven't tried yet under Snow Leopard - but hey, it's only been five days!), and best of all, reliable. Just get it. CHAOTICPIXEL $19! I have been using Cyberduck for years because most of the FTP apps worth a damn were all way above my pay grade, but when I noticed it for only $19, I had to take them up on it. So far, I absolutely love the software. Its dual pane UI is a great Finder replacement if you like that option. It is similar to Pathfinder (Pathfinder is way too bloated and expensive) but has a solid FTP, WebDAV and SSH capability without being too resource intensive and bloated. Forklift contains some of the most useful actions that should be built right into the Mac Finder. This one buy takes care of 3 to 4 separate apps, but again, it does not feel bloated or spread too thin. I love its batch rename function, really useful for keeping your files highly organized and searchable. Then you have the uninstall/app delete functionality that is really cool along with Sync and Sync Browsing. Although, I have not testing the syncing functions, I am excited to see the results. You can also open and edit files that are on a web server without having to download them, edit them and then re-upload them. This is great for fast corrections or hunting down a bug real quickly. After using it a little more, I will give a full review with ratings, but so far ... highly recommended. [Cerebrl] (Version 1.7.3)

Well, this is harsh criticism, and we accept it. True, it does happen at times that some emails are left unanswered. There could be any number of reasons for this: - the bug report needs testing, and this can result in surprise turns that simply get us wandering about the code, and forgetting about our original bug tracking mission. - some more urgent thing may get us off track - or we may simply have let the email slide down the list, until it got out of our view. In any of these cases, please accept our apologies In the case at hand, we simply couldn't reproduce the problem with DAV. I'm sure these things happen in the best companies, especially in a small dev unit like ours. Still, we try to do our best. (Version 1.7.3)

JRIETZ My task for the day(s) was to transfer about 6 GB of websites from one host to a new host. I dreaded the thought since my cable is slow uploading. I've actually owned ForkLift for a while, but had not used it until this task remembering it could be logged into two ftp sites at the same time within the split window. It is unfortunate that neither host supports the FXP protocol... I did have some problems and was unable to tell if it was one of the hosts or my cable, which throttles uploads. Somewhere along the line FL did start crashing pretty far into a large transfer and I was having a dickens of a time managing which folders got updated and which didn't (the Sync Browsing really helped). I sent in a bug report and included the crash log file. I was really surprised when someone wanted to iChat with me - someone I didn't know. Within a few lines I found it was Mudi from BinaryNights! Mudi provided a lot of suggestions and got me going - I was using a G4 and they had not fully tested the new version with one. The next day, Mudi contacted me again and said they found the bug after they setup a G4 and tested it themselves. I'm an old Fetch guy, but I've switched to ForkLift as my primary ftp application, not only the unique features (today and for the future), but for the support.

EASER I am hard-pressed to say ForkLift is better than PathFinder. ForkLift clearly has advantages in terms of ftp and dual-pane. Short of that, PathFinder is far more customizable and has more features. For example, PathFinder allows the option of column view. It also allows one to enlarge icon and font sizes to whatever you want, including in the side bar. Neither ForkLift nor Finder give you that. (ForkLift does allows some size increases in the main view, but not in the sidebar.) Reach age 50 and tell me how well your eyesight is working and whether you don't appreciate some of these qualities in a file manager. I can also change icons and select default opening programs in PathFinder (just as one can with Finder); ForkLift does not allow for that. So, at the least, please be more clear in terms of exactly how you see ForkLift as better than PathFinder. Anyone can express an opinion; but most people read reviews for substance and information. (Version 1.6b1)

DOUG S. Are you sure it's not an issue with our hosting provider? Specific bits of functionality are disabled by certain hosting providers, mainly the cheap budget ones. For instance, a client I worked with I couldn't use ForkLift to restart a failed connection. However, with my hosting (Servage) restarting failed connections work every time. Same with merging and renaming folders. The only times I've had issues are with bad hosts. You might want to check with the provider (or +ers if it's multiple) to see if they have any issues. Also, it might matter if it's an SFTP or an FTP transfer. (Version 1.5.3)

DOUG S. The other day I noticed my current FTP app (Yummy FTP) wasn't running very fast. I knew part of that was my ISP and modem, but that was not enough to explain a 5kb/s upload. So I went on a round of MacUpdate looking for FTP programs (commercial, shareware and free) to give them all a test. The way I tested was three part. First I tested the speed they logged in and created a folder. Then I tested how fast they could upload a batch of small files, in this case WordPress. Then I did an upload of each using a larger file, an 8MB FLV. Then of course I deleted everything and started again. I tested YummyFTP, Fetch, Transmit, ForkLift, Flow and Cyberduck. YummyFTP, Fetch and Transmit were the registered versions (I had serials from previous uses and bundle buys) and the rest were either free or trials. Out of all of them, ForkLift was the most user friendly, had the best UI and was by far the fastest. Usually it clocked in at 2x-5x the speeds of the others. YummyFTP was the only one that was remotely close. Fetch, Transmit and Cyberduck were average and Flow was slower than death. I ended up quitting that program by the end since even the simplest things took ages. Though ForkLift is by no means perfect, the way it stores favourite FTP sites for instance could use a bit of work. But in so many respects it's exactly what I need, as well as being blazing fast. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a good FTP client and is willing to pay a little bit to get it. (Version 1.5.2)

SHEPHERDJOE A must have for every switcher (and probably for everybody who wants to be productive with files). I think that there are some de facto rules when it comes to file managers in different operating systems. Dos -> Norton Commander, Windows -> Total Commander, Linux -> Midnight Commander. I really think that Forklift could be the de facto file manager for OS X. I switched to mac half a year ago, and for almost every type of software I used before on win or linux I find really good alternatives except the file manager. I have never really liked Windows explorer, so I don't like the Finder either. Sorry Steve, but I need the two panels :) But Forklift fulfilled all my requirements! I don't want to waste a lot of words on the standard features, they work like a charm. But there are some things that I really like: - groupable favorites on the sidebar. I am - as a software developer - working with a lot of different ftp, sftp locations, and I made for every project a group, so I can easily access all local and remote locations. - Quick look integration, No comment :) - Batch rename function is really handy - Delete App function is also an extra which helps to keep the system cleaner. - Beautiful interface (Sorry muCommander :)) - The tech support is fast (I had a small problem buying the software but they answered in a few hours). The only thing which - in my opinion - needs some improvement is the tab handling. I prefer the Total Commander way where a tab belongs to a single panel (In Forklift a tab contains the two panels), and if you exit from Forklift your tabs are lost. But this is just a small inconvenience for me, so I can honestly recommend Forklift for everybody! (Version 1.5.1)

YIP Nice app! I'm using it since 2 months, and I'm satisfied. The current version doesn't has any stabilty problems (for me at least), and ftp is amazing fast (or feels like it). Somehow it finds more computer on the LAN, and works better as well. The "delete app" function could be better. It finds the hidden files in the library folder, but doesn't delete the additional files (like html helps, and tutorials in the same folder). It handles compressed files great as well. I've got 3 programs in one (no need for appzapper, cyberduck or any compression utility). Keep up the good work! (Version 1.5.1)

DANA SUTTON The next major file transfer program? Not for pros. If you are responsible for managing a Web site that requires frequent updating, you quickly find that you need a FTP client that has the capacity to execute prescheduled uploads (for a Mac user, "manually" is one of the dirtiest words in the English language). A client without this feature just doesn't cut it, any more than would a piece of backup software that had to be operated manually. ForkLift has a lot of great features, but until it acquires this capacity it isn't in any shape to challenge the competition. (Version 1.5.1)

WEB-JIVE Thanks. I had to purchase Yummy FTP instead of your product because I could tell it to use a private key and provide the password for that key. I have yet to see that option unless I'm missing it? (Version 1.5.1)

EASER I could see value if you do ftp stuff (which I don't). To create a simple dual-pane Finder setup, I created two folders, opened them and put them side by side, set them to the exact settings I wanted (I prefer CoverFlow), and then used the free program Hot Alias to create one file that now opens both folders at once. (There's another free program called 2Finder that does something like this, but I don't like it. It seems to auto-hide many of my open windows.) I think ForkLift would improve if it (1) provided disclosure triangles and (2) allowed the option of switching between dual-pane and column view settings. (Version 1.5)

XPLICIT I would never have guessed I would ever say this but if I'm in need of a filemanager I rather use the Finder in column view mode than ForkLift. Working with the Finder is much faster and much more flexible, e.g. the already mentioned column view ist better and faster than ForkLift's dual pane view. You can have as many Finder windows as you like, so you can have as many locations at hand at the same time as you like, with ForkLift you have only two. ForkLift's interface looks to me like Transmit's interface. But I never thought of using Transmit as a filemanager. And compared to Transmit the favourites feature is very badly implemented (missing the possibility of editing the favourites or adding new without connecting first). I'm wondering what this application wants to be. So many features ... . Some of them quite interesting, but ForkLift lacks some usability in the first place. (Version 1.5)

IGAUCHO I just installed this new version and must say that it's a joy to use. The previous release had a rather awkward interface (double drawers??), but this one is very clean and as easy to use as the Finder. This is a really unique app in that it satisfies several uses instead of just the typical FTP/SFTP with its implementation of WebDAV, S3, etc. This app has completely replaced the Finder for moving files to my other Macs and my .Mac account. I really like that I can use QuickLook with it as well. This is one app that I hope takes the competition by storm. The developers of Transmit, Fetch, CaptainFTP, and YummyFTP can really learn a couple things here. Unfortunately, it is missing some advanced features that FTP power users will probably want. DONPERREAULT This is great Mac company. I purchased my copy of Forklift through one of those bundle promotions last year. My OLD serial works with the new version of ForkLift, awesome! This is a what I consider to be a major upgrade and the developers didn't charge for the upgrade. Kudo's to Binary Nights for their efforts. Those d*ckwads over at Yazsoft ought take notice. BTW: I didn't purchase the MacHeist bundle but have followed the Yazsoft controversy and have sided with theYazsoft customers. (Version 1.5)

SIXER ___2 Would love it if this app could be customized to be even more Finder like, such as: With that, it could become something that looks like the Finder, feels like the Finder, but does a lot more than the Finder. I think many of us are waiting for that. (Version 1.5b2)

DONPERREAULT I agree, I would love to change views and launch in single pane view. (Version 1.5)

EASER I do think ForkLift is a good product; I own a license for it. But it would be nice to have some kind of simple pop-up button between the panes that lets you choose "Column" or "Dual Pane" view on the fly. While I'm at it, disclosure triangles would be a nice touch as well. I do recommend giving ForkLift a try. It has some nice features. (Version 1.5)

VIVA This is such a great app! I Started to use it to decompress splitted archives, then discovered the delete app function. It also replaces my favourite FTP programme and Renamer4Mac. A lot more lies there yet to be discovered. A little feature request though: import favourites from Transmit and Fetch. Thanks for the good job! (Version 1.5b1)

BINGLEY JOE LOVE ForkLift! DO NOT love the new icons in this beta! Why the change? The new browser is nice, and fits cleanly with Leopard's new Finder, but I thought the old icons were much easier on the eyes. (Version 1.5b1)

K0GG I got this as part of the MUPromo Bundle 2. So far, I have used it for file management between my internal and external hard drives. I like the two vertical panel interface; it is very logical for me. I like the open spacing of the lists. For what I do, I much prefer it over Path Finder. It lacks QuickView at the moment which will be in version 2, apparently. A feature that I am using a lot is the Delete App button. For a quick way to remove apps, I have found that it is more successful than AppZapper at removing apps and their associated files. ForkLift finds cache, logs and receipt files that AppZapper doesn't touch. In one case, ForkLift didn't pick up an PDF Services alias' that AZ did, but AZ missed all the others. ForkLift has been stable for me on Leopard for how I have used it. (Version 1.2)

KHILTD I hate Transmit, so I was pretty happy to see a new alternative on the block. Unfortunately I found the UI to be quite hideous--the giant icons in particular make no sense to me--and it crashes every time I actually try to connect to my server, so it's going in the trash. (Version 1.2)

EVOLVE75 I got Forklift as part of the Dec mupromo bundle. It is a nice little two-pane file manager, but the main use case I had is not working (though claimed to be supported) - which is SFTP using PUBLIC-KEY encryption. This is a pretty standard way of using SFTP, and which Cyberduck/Transmit handle without any issues whatsoever. The SFTP connection dialog does indicate the Public Key authentication will be used if the password is not entered (same as Transmit), but does not actually connect - which is a deal-breaker for me. Just reacting to the previous comment - Yes, there is a bug with sftp public key authentication under Leopard. Many thanks to our users for their help in nailing it. We're currently working on the fix, and will release it as soon as possible. BinaryNights (Version 1.2)

EVOLVE75 This is great news! It is good to find the developers responsive to bugs and feature requests. BTW, I had raised this bug via the "contact us" feature on http://www.binarynights.com/, and had an immediately response email from the developers explaining the issue and the commitment to fix the bug. Forklift definitely has a place in my Mac, and I will be eagerly awaiting this issue to get resolved soon. Keep up the good work! (Version 1.2)

EVOLVE75 Just wanted to follow up my original comment. As of Version 1.5, Forklift now works seamlessly with Public-key encryption for SFTP. Great work, guys! (Version 1.5)

EASER Let me amend this by adding that the ForkLift people said they intend for the initial Leopard upgrade to be free for registered owners. So this could be a good opportunity if you're thinking along those lines. It took me awhile to get used to dual-pane file management, but it's got a lot of advantages. This has been a good program so far. (Version 1.2)

EASER Just be aware that if you buy this version of ForkLift as part of the MU update, it is the last supported pre-Leopard version you'll get. The company is working on a new version that will require Leopard and plans very minimal maintenance upgrades to this current version. This current version has run fine and stable, and the Leopard version looks really nice. (Check out their page.) But if you buy this current version, it is pretty much the final version of it. EASER I like ForkLift and will probably buy it. That being said, I think it's in need of some basic improvements: 1. As someone noted, enhance the "Get Info" command to allow replacement of icons. I would add the ability to select default apps for opening documents. 2. The ability to remember tab settings when you quit and re-open the application. 3. The inclusion of "New File" and "New Tab" buttons in the toolbar. It would also be nice to be able to right click in the tab area and have "new tab" appear. 4. Perhaps a "shelf," comparable to what PathFinder uses. Even though ForkLift's dual-pane approach kind of provides for this, there are times when I want stuff on a shelf to be moved later while keeping my current panes open. In the long run, I like ForkLift better than DiskOrder, which seems a bit unstable on my system. (The ForkLift people also actually answer my e-mails. I've never gotten a response from the DiskOrder folks.) I also love PathFinder, but as of late, it's gotten so many bells and whistles that my overall system runs a bit slower than I'd like. (It's a top-notch program, and perhaps it's more effective on an Intel machine than a PPC.) (Version 1.2)

FRANCOLA A very handy usefull app. Unfortunately it does not work with one of the tasks that I do constantly. I like to use the small icon at the top left of the info window to copy & paste a new icon or preview and that area in forklift is not functional. If that was an option I would invest! GRUMPYTICO I have used it for 5 minutes and I am already in love: -It will let your browse archived files (like zips) and extract what you need without the need to extract the whole thing -Super mega fast Spotlight integration, it won't do the retarded "search as you type", it finds things faster than spotlight because of this -Drawer window lets you keep favorites for quick access The only thing I would like to see is label support, move file support (button is there, it is not enabled), and why not...tabs? ;) (Version 1.0b)
