I also find the fact that it comes with a plugin for my browser to be a real plus. I recommend this fine piece of work wholeheartedly.

2QRS  I discovered the original FLVR App when I was searching for an application to convert some flash files that I wanted to add to a DVD project. I had literally tried dozens of applications and nothing would convert these particular files to the format I needed.

I was actually shocked when my first conversion attempt with FLVR downloaded the flash files from Youtube & converted them to quicktime files flawlessly. It did this in the background without the issues that I had encountered with every other converter.

Videobox is the latest incarnation of this amazing application. Like the original App, It still has a safari plugin that allows you to download, rename & convert right within the browser. But, it is also a stand alone converter with URL drag & drop functionality making it is the easiest & most reliable application for grabbing & converting web based video on the fly regardless of your browser. And because it is a stand alone application, you can also convert media that is not web based...e.g. a clip a friend sends you as an e-mail attachment.

The preferences allow you to customize quality of your output & supports mov, mpeg, mp4, raw, avi, wmv, and flv formats. There is also an automatic import into itunes function, which makes grabbing video from sites like youtube to watch later on your ipod seamless. You can grab, convert & add with a push of the button.

Videobox is a fast, flawless & customizable video converter that works every time. It not only converts media into the format you want, but does so with little or no loss of quality.

Download the Demo, give it a try and you will see that it is "Must Have" application for anyone who works with video or collects web based content.

THELENAMONSTER  I first bought FLVR 1.0 from Tastyapps.com, hell, almost a year ago? It's been a perfectly working app, amazing my friends with its ability to do what websites don't want us to be able to do. *evil laugh* I lost my license a time or two, and their customer service rocks harder than any I've ever dealt with and quickly emailed my license to me. When FLVR became Videobox they offered me a free upgrade! Even though it's effectively a completely different app, they saw that I had spent my money (and $15 is a lot now with gas prices, etc, geez) on the previous app, and thus wanted to give me my money's worth. This app is unbelievable. It does everything I'd want it to and more, and no, I've NEVER found a free app that does this sort of job. And trust me, if you ever go nuts & accidentally delete everything off your mac mini (oops lol), Tim over at customer service has your back.

Great app. x a billion.

US8  A must have for your personal toolbox. Videobox 2.6 is fast, easy, reliable, and was a free upgrade since I was an FLVR customer.

I use Videobox 2.6, Leopard 10.5.2, and Safari Version 3.1 (5525.13) quite heavily and I have been able to record flash video from every site I had to or wanted to.

They're back to business as usual; well made, useful, and nominally priced software...and from my personal experience, fully engaged and caring customer service. Thanks, Tim.

WILLIAMD  I spent several hours today trying to get the Videobox to work. The developer tried to help, but his instruction should be clearly listed with the software, which includes updating SIMBL, finding the right library to delete the old FLVR (there were two, in the end), and by HAND (uninstaller did not remove the software properly).

Then, after going around and around, I still could not get the software to work. It would download the Flash video, but would stop before compressing the video into iPod format.

FLVR was wonderful.

Videobox is a disaster.

( And although the app does NOT say so, the developer says it's still BETA )

AVOID.

::MILE::  Even though it's probably the best solution of its kind, I think that such an app shouldn't really cost more than maybe 10$ or so, considered the fact that there are many decent free alternatives.

That aside, it's a great, easy and really convenient application that I found to be working with all the Flahs-based movie sites that I have visited so far...!

DGOMBAU  Videobox 2.4 is even better than FLVR. I like the fact that it now even names the clip from its metadata, rather than having to change it from the file name.

The developer, I found to be responsive. Replied well within 48 hours (and even apologized for the delay!). Hey, that beats the heck out of Time Warner Cable!

Some reviewers have explained how with tweaking and fiddling, searching and renaming, YouTube videos can be DL'ed manually. But who wants to!

Videobox makes it easy, and that is a priority to me. The convenience is well worth to small price tag.

DGOMBAU  Had no problems like this. In fact was running VideoBox and FLVR concurrently for a while.

Sure, FLVR was on automatically, but if browses a lot of videos, they stacked up up the list and it takes some work to distinguish which one you want from the YouTube random alpha-numeric titles.

And the pulsing (albeit subtly) symbol tended to be a little distracting.

It would be nice to have some kind of way to have VideoBox launchable after you view a video you want to capture.

On balance, I decided to let FLVR go.

But you should be able to continue using FLVR. Just because an app is upgraded doesn't mean you have to adopt it.

WILLIAMD  What I really object to is NOT KNOWING what you are going to lose in an "upgrade".

Videobox is NOT an upgrade or an improvement to an existing function, it is a reduced-feature replacement.

The LOSS of features should be noted so that poor b'stards like myself don't waste over 2 hours messing about with it.

AND it should have a User Manual.

KID ORDINN  I was an early registered user of FLVR and since I just upgraded to Leopard, I asked TastyApps to receive the free upgrade, Videobox.

I like the new Videobox better than FLVR. First, it is totally browser independent, meaning that I can run it even with Firefox.

Second, Videobox also works flawlessly with Tor enabled in Firefox, making it easy to download flash videos without leaving a trace.

I'm really pleased with the new Videobox. It's easy to use and the support is great. Thanks, TastyApps.

Have been delighted that Videobox is even more usable, especially because it eliminates the modal dialog during downloading and supports multiple concurrent downloads/conversions without having to keep the source browser windows open. Have not yet encountered a file it couldn't grab.

I ALWAYS got a swift reply when there where problems and I got a mail every time there was a new version !!!

Now there was "something" that whent wrong after the introduction of Videobox and the removal of FLVR !!!

To be honest I was rather pissed-off as they kept asking my payment invoice and again no reply...

I got a mail today that they had some "ISSUES" and that they are trying to contact each registered customber one at a time to fix things...

I can understand that when some things change (take OSX 10.5 to just name one) you need to get in a higher gear... and then you don't need for much to get things messed up...

Give them a fair chance to redeem themselves...

I gave them a 10 for service before, then until yesterday a big 0... but today I give the a "fair" 8 again with a option to get better !!! (Not a 10 as my Red Snapper -> Web Snapper upgrade needs to get fixed first...)

I emailed Tasty Apps and they sent me a free of charge licence for their new Videobox product with their compliments and a sort of excuse about the slow support. I was wonder, why are they excusing themselves? I got and excellent support and It was not slow at all! They replied my message at the next business day...

I recommend Tasty Apps and their service, not at last their fine piece of software to Your kind attention!

Thank you Tasty Apps!

Keep up the good work!

F451  I am a registered user of FLVR, now VideoBox. FLVR was an integrated solution that worked well; VideoBox is a separate application requiring several more steps to achieve what FLVR did so gracefully. The full value of what this application is trying to achieve will not be reached until it is again integrated into Safari as FLVR was. Until then I am waiting until such integration happens while abandoning this version of VideoBox.

FARIBORZ  I'm a proud owner of FLVR which unfortunately does no longer run on Leopard. I therefore had to switch to VideoBox which is another gorgeous piece of software. I wrote to VideoBox developers and asked for a new serial number which they promptly mailed to me with their compliments. They had even apologized for the delay in getting back to their customers due to some technical issues. Well, as for me I have nothing to complain about because I received one of the best customer supports in the market and also a free license for my brand new program. I do thank all the staff at TastyApps and wish them every success for the future. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

OSO69  After upgrading to Leopard - you find Apple have crippled a lot of your previous tweaks. The hoardes of Developers have increased CO2 emissions by burning midnight oil to update those tweaks - and this one is no exception.

Works well, needs safari integration, but still good.

Developer came back to me within 24 hours, free upgrade.

ALEX B  The developers did get back to me (I had to mail them again and again), but it seems they have been overloaded with e-mails and things outside of the internet. That said, they were very responsive and are working hard to get up to speed.

With that in mind, it just goes to show how many people use this app.

The devs are even working to offer it in both plugin and separate app form, so here's to hoping.

This new version, despite it's not as sweet plugin format, is still excellent. It works well and doesn't crash and it's the best of it's kind so it deserves a good rating.

MIBRILANE  I get a weird focus-flashing problem between VideoBox and Safari when downloading files - like Leopard can't seem to figure out which program should be given the focus "darkened window" foreground window.

Otherwise it works flawlessly. Good work!

PUPSPALS  Nice program! After free Greecemonkey scripts in firefox stopped working for YouTube I turned to FLVR. But then I had to use Safari & nothing but.

Now (thanks to my free upgrade since I purchased FLVR - THX!) I can run Firefox again! So far test of YouTube video works perfectly & since it's a different program it doesn't slow down your browser (at least not that I can tell).

Added ability of adding file names & where to save is a HUGE plus! something seriously lacking in FLVR. Now I don't have tons of files that I don't know what they are!

I haven't run a test yet to see if the new program's encoding works for my video iPod. Prior using FLVR I'd have to recompress the compressed files so they'd play on the vid iPod. Here's hoping!

STEVES  OK. Well I was a more than happy owner of FLVR, so of course, seeing an independent app that was not plugged into the browser, was a little bit of a set back.

However, I was greatly impressed to see that I now have the choice to add a file name to the file being saved. A huge plus when saving a series for example. It's much better to be able to save episode 1.mov etc than file names such as 109376.mov

So yes I was chuffed with that.

Response time after dragging in the url appears to be a little slower than FLVR, but hey, it works a treat nonetheless.

Quality of the file downloaded?

Well: Format = MPEG4 with AAC audio at 24 FPS.

Quality of the image is not great when compared to the original. But I am hoping this will be addressed in later updates.

So yeah I guess I'm happy with this. But I'd like to see the improved quality sooner rather than later. Oh. and I'd like access to the preference tab which is currently greyed out.

Sweet.

3.5 stars, would have given it 4 if the quality of the picture was upto scratch, but again, I'd expect to see that coming in an update.

BLAIZEFM  I was a little surprised to find FLVR replaced with this software which appears to lack FLVR's functionality.

The developer tells me it is because Leopard disabled plug-in support for Safari, hence FLVR - being a plug-in - would no longer work on the new OS.

It's unfortunate that the new application doesn't convert to .mp4 and add to iTunes but the developer tells me this feature will be coming soon.

His response regarding both the new licence key for Videobox and the features I requested came within hours of my initial email. I am impressed.

NEO979  All rightee, I tried again, and the company wrote back and updated my license this time. The newer beta also seems to work, mostly, as expected on Leopard. The developer is actually specifically asking people to post positive experiences here, so he is apparently concerned about all the negative comments, even though he doesn't seem to be posting here himself.

THEBON  I wrote to the developers because I now have Leopard and despite knowing all the ways I can download flv files, which I do often, I prefer having the ability to have the program do it for me effortlessly. This is not as elegant a program as FLVR, but it works just as well and without all the extra files that you never wanted in the first place. And it doesn't rely on Safari. I got the replacement in under an hour. Even though I had no notes on the Beta it was easy enough to get up and running. I just tried it with a video I was viewing via Firefox and it worked just fine.

Every time I've had any interaction with the customer service department it was pleasant. They apologized for any unreachability in the past month because of personal issues which are presumably now resolved.

According to the Tastyapps website you can exchange your FLVR license for Videobox and its future 2.x updates. I wrote last last night and then again this morning and told them I was waiting to install Leopard and didn't want to do it without the upgrade to Videobox I received a reply in under an hour. Give them a chance.

NEO979  I'm also getting worried about this... Leopard indeed breaks FLVR 1.x, and Tasty's site indicates that we can request a free upgrade to FLVR 2.0 beta to fix the problem. But they do not respond to requests for the upgrade, and I am also not able to get FLVR 2.0 (demo) to work anyway. FLVR does seem to be partially delisted from their main site.

ALEX B  I've also had ttrouble contacting the developers. I suppose it's just focus on the next version of the product, or whatever e-mail system they might have had set up to auto reply about the products had hiccups unexpectadly.

The products weren't removed from their site for too long, so I'm not too bothered as a paying customer.

For the record, in the past, when they did respond, they were extremely friendly, courteous, and very quick to respond at that. At the time, one of the best dev's I've had the pleasure of dealing with so far. I would go so far as rating them excellent.

Also, if you have Quicktime Pro & Perian

you can open flv's in Quicktime & save them to whatever format you like. Saving to a quicktime .mov takes no time at all.

LUKEARTS  Perfect! Just how a mac app should be!!

Integrates nicely with the browser. It seems to uses the cached file from safari, which makes it so much quicker than the other flash download tools like Tubestock which want to download the video again. It also is not limited to youtube it works on google video (confirmed) and other flash video sites? (according to the limited information thus far in the installer) Although I couldn't get it to work on AtomFilms (maybe the dev can look at this)

It is really quick at encoding the .flv into .mp4 and drops the file into your ~/Movies folder which is fine. A preference for a different location would be nice.

It then does something strange and opens up iTunes? Strange because it doesn't add the video to the iTunes Library? Personally I would prefer to not have the video added to my iTunes lib, but Im sure many would so again a preference setting would be nice.

All in all it is very simple to use and looks mac pretty to boot.

As a app that is in beta this looks very promising. Im now off to Pre-order this sexy little app.

TASTYAPPS  So for people reading this thread, here is what happened. This individual emailed me 3 times - in 1 day (the day before he posted to this thread). For the record - i *did* respond to him within 24 hours from his first email, but due to the time zone difference i didn't see his email until i woke up.

It baffles me how some people don't think that within 24/48 hours is a good response time. Some companies take weeks to reply i clear my inbox every day, or every other day.

Again for the record... His paypal payment was "uncleared" probably as a result of an invalid card or expiry date. Ultimately we never were notified of the purchase... so his problem is with Paypal... not us.

Please note... i do care a great deal about people's perception of me and my company. I listen, i respond and i try to help everyone that has a problem or needs a question answered. Luckily 99% of people don't have any problems... usually the problems that occur (like this one) are user errors... or other such problems out of my control. And ordinarily i am understanding, kind and helpful. But not when i'm being yelled at, and not when people are rude.

Now, i have asked him to chime in and apologize for unjustly defaming me and my company... let's see if he is a big enough man.
