COMPUTA-TUTA I paid for and installed CosmoPod in May 2009 and it worked for a few months. I upgraded to SL in September and CosmoPod would not work with standard 64-bit Safari. Now this guy wants more cash for a program that should have been SL compatible when I bought it 4 months before.. I don't know what agenda he is running here but unless he gets his pricing sorted out, reviews like this are gonna finish his development on the Mac platform! This guy will not be getting any more cash from me until he can prove that he's not gonna bill me every 4 months to get his software to work! CosmoPod is getting removed from my Mac as of NOW! VISOR I'm in the same boat as you. Unlike others here, I paid full price at the end of April this year. I got no more than 5 months of use before Snow Leopard - and now I'm being asked for another 50% already??? I don't bloody think so. I'm no longer a customer of CocoaMUGGED software. (Version 4.1)

VISOR And do not be fooled by the 'CosmoPOD upgrades have been free between March 2007 and September 2009' line - I had only been a customer since April 2009. What passed before is of no consequence to me - I am only interested once I have BECOME a customer. While I realise that the developer needs to live, I also do not appreciate being taken advantage of. I put good faith in purchasing the software and this was the repayment? This is the kind of roughshod 'customer service' that give small developers a bad name. (Version 4.1)

TRANQY Bought this from MacUpdate Promo in April. Developer decided not to provide upgrades to the snow leopard compatible version. My purchased software worked for less then 6 months before being orphaned by the developer and asked to pay for an upgrade. Using a free firefox extension instead now. I'd rather stay in safari, but I will not support this company since they did not support their customers. Here's the email thread from the developer for anyone interested. http://is.gd/46BSC (Version 4.0)

SHMK I second this one, I bought it on its one around the beginning of May as well. I think am upgrade fee within six month is bollocks especially considering there aren't any new features. and 3.9 euros where I am is closer to $10. Bollocks the 3.1 he talks about doesn't even work in Safari running 32-bit it completely crashes Safari. How do we go so quickly from 3.1 to 4 anyhow... I know looking for more $$$ for a compatibility update. Lame. (Version 4.0)

DRZOOM I installed cosmopod but is not working on my MacBook with Snow leopard... since after I had install the Snow Leopard, just when it came out, I made a copy of the Safari on 32 bit to get Cosmopod working, before to install this version of Cosmopod I erased the 32 bit Safari... therefore: I opened the Cosmopod installer I clicked uninstall and after I did the Install but it doesn't show in the Safari's bar I'm using Cosmopod since June 2007, I think the version was 1.9, but now what I should do to get it working?

F451 Open Safari. Go to the toolbar at the very top of your screen (not the one Safari window) choose View / Customize Toolbar. A dialog window will open, and you will see the CosmoPod button. Drag the button to where you want it located in Safari's open window toolbar. That's it! (Version 4.0)

MACSOLU Just installed this update, along with TabExposé and SafariTabs -- now I cannot use my mouseball/wheel to scroll up or down web pages while viewing them in Safari. I have yet to troubleshoot, but at least one of these three plug-ins is the culprit. (Version 3.1)

GARY W. I'm experiencing a problem with Cosmopod and 10.5.8. Certainly not a big deal in the whole scheme of things, but annoying in that it conflicts with years of learned behavior. The problem is that with Cosmopod installed, (paid and registered) when you hit the Safari icon in the dock or elsewhere, (with Safari already running but windows closed) a new window does not pop up, contrary to normal behavior. Uninstalling Cosmopod fixes the problem. Unless I'm missing some setting or something, I assume this is a bug easily fixed, and that the next revision will address it. Otherwise, I love the application, as it makes it pathetically easy to download and convert video. (Version 3.0.1)

GARY W. My apologies. After further consideration, it appears the problem with the new window not coming up is still cropping up even after deinstalling Cosmopod. It seems like you can get a new window perhaps 2 or 3 times, but then nothing. With Cosmopod, it would only come up once and then no more. I therefore cannot say that Cosmopod is necessarily my problem, although it seems like it somehow affects the severity of it. I suspect the root of the problem is elsewhere, like with me perhaps. :-) (Version 3.0.1)

GARY W. Cosmopod completely innocent! Sorry, Cosmopod. The problem was the search add-on "Glims", which needs to be updated to address conflict issues with latest Safari updates. Uninstalled Glims and put back Cosmo. All working fine now. (Version 3.0.1)

GARY30 CosmoPod is the most useful utility for the money of all the web related video utilities I have. If you are a Safari user and like to view some video content offline, this Application Enhancer makes is a one click solution. The developer stays right on top of Safari updates and I have never had a hang or other glitch involving CosmoPod. There is an "equivalent" free plug-in for Firefox, FlashGot. It is frustrating for me in that is wants to download each and every flash animation on a given web page and preserves the often bewildering names. In my view it not as useful as CosmoPod. WILE E. Although I am a recent convert to CosmoPod I have been very impressed and bought a license immediately. The cost of a license right now is too good to pass this by. Smooth, fast, and seamless to both download and convert virtually any video. The ability to edit metadata is a powerful addition. Works perfectly under the recent release of Safari 4 Beta for me.

MAC4MYLIFE I have been using Cosmopod since its birth and I have never found better than this. Though, there is a feature that drives me nuts and I didn't find any thing that could help me. Each time the file is converted, it generates "cosmopod" at the end of the file name and I don't want that. IE: What hurts the most from a dog's Eyes-CosmoPod.mp4 I tried to get rid of it with the preferences but so far, couldn't make it. I have to erase manually one file at a time that generated name. Anyone knows how to get rid of it automatically? (Version 2.8.1)

GARY30 Looking closely I noticed pixelation on the H.264 (best quality) conversions I was doing from some flv files using version 2.7. In experimenting with the preferences I discovered that unchecking the "Use original bitrate when converting" preference eliminated the pixelation i was seeing. I don't know if this was an artifact of the particular flv files I was working with, but if you see pixelation you might give this preference a try. (Version 2.7)

OZZPOT I have used CosmoPod for ages, and would hate to be without it now, but ever since updating to 2.5, the format conversion has stopped working. The MPEG-4 file produced is damaged and cannot be played by any application, and when inspected, appears to be 0kb in size. At the moment I'm having to convert the downloaded flv file using iSquint. This is the case for every video I've downloaded since 2.5, from several different websites. (Version 2.5)

Anyway, get SafariStand to download your flv files (or use the Activity window for other file types) and convert them with iSquint. Both are free and they WORK! (Version 2.2)

WSTEVENS Got to tell you, I for one am glad he posted his problem here. One of the reasons I come to MacUpdate is to see if other users are having the same problems I'm having with a particular piece of software. I this case I am. I agree we need to let the developers know too when we have problem with their software. (Version 2.2)
| Mar 19 2008 |
If both things are done (posting here and contacting the dev) concurrently, it's all good. Over the years, I've seen many posts here from developers who bemoan the fact that most people do not contact them with their issues, that they can't fix what they don't know about, often only finding out abut a problem much much later when they just happen to stroll through the posts here. (Version 2.2)
| Mar 20 2008 |
cosmopod 2.3 fixes these issues (number of simultaneous downloads, crash at startup on 10.4) A mail would have been nice, but I guess there is no harm alerting others of potential problems and alternative solutions too. major_panic@cocoamug.com (Version 2.3)

EZRABBIT I definitely agree with AIKOUSHA's "one-trick-pony" comment. I bought this thing because it seemed to work well, and it did... at first. Now the "Number of downloads" prefs won't change, it doesn't always add things to iTunes (yes the option is selected) and it occasionally tries to download a wmv file which isn't actually there. Sometimes when I try to download something from YouTube it will download the flv AND some fictional wmv file with a huge name which includes what appears to be webpage display parameters... I think. Safari's Activity window shows no such file, so I have no idea what CosmoPod is mistaking for a wmv file. Then when it tries to download this phantom file, Safari slows and freezes, as does everything else running. I actially had to turn off the power to restart my Mac! Oh, and iSquint makes better quality files as well. Waste of money, even if it is cheap. (Version 2.2)

AIKOUSHA Downloaded and tested this a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to work perfectly. However, I found something today that I really wanted to get and view (without loss of video and stuttering) and it just wouldn't work. It recognized the video, but when I clicked the button to save it, nothing happened (the dialogue box disappeared, but no file was saved or even opened). Further attempts to save it came up with a dialogue stating that it had already been saved, and did I want to resave, cancel, or reload the page. Save didn't do anything, and reloading did reload the page, but did not allow me to save the video once it finally was quied up again. This literally turned into a "one-trick pony" and is now completely useless. this should be a built in feature of Safari... (Version 2.1)
