MARK_CAIRNS  Yayyy, finally an update.

Looking forward to testing it further. Keyboard shortcuts are welcome.

ESPIRIDION  I was pleasantly surprised when I found this application. I loved using SoundApp. It was an amazing tool.

But I'm a bit confused. Is this mostly a SoundApp interface? Or is this a port of the SoundApp application, with its playback and conversion capabilities?

From what I read, my impression is that SoundApp's engine has not been updated to work in OS X.

Anyone knows?

DEVNEVYN  It's just the UI/interface. I'll update the description to match...

EMANKAYKER  First off, thank you for bringing soundapp to osx!

but there is one fonctionality that was making the difference with other softs, and it is not working now, that's the ability to play stereo split files as a single file.

thanks and best regards

HENRIKTEKNIK  I'm very happy to see that someone's taking on the task of reinstating SoundApp for OS X!

I know that this is in early development, but I ran it through a quick evaluation and these were the things that I stumbled across. I will not put a review score on this app, in its current state, as I think SoundApp Reborn is in a rather unfinished state. The following list is meant as constructive criticism, hoping that it might help tracking down things that, if fixed, might improve things in SoundApp Reborn.

- Doesn't allow drag & drop of file(s) onto the application icon.

- Repeat loops the sounds with a small pause glitch between the end and beginning

- The Info window persists popping up when double-clicking a file in the list (would be nice to be able to choose whether or not to see this, like in QuickTime)

- Help menu doesn't lead to a help file (frequently debated issue, but personally I think it shouldn't be there if there is no help)

- Navigation is very quirky; when you are in the list (without having the Info window opened) and press Up or Down arrow keys, you select the next/previous file in the list (which is all fine), but when you've pressed Space, to preview a sound (and again, when the Info window automatically pops open), the Up and Down arror keys doesn't maintain their original function (select previous/next sound)

- Bug: It seems to mess with keyboard input (at least on my machine). When I'm using TextMate, TextEdit or any other program with some kind of text input field it gets impossible to input anything! This issue occurs when having a loop playing in SoundApp Reborn, and exactly when the starts over again.

- This is just a subjective opinion: The icon doesn't necessarily have to be all "OS 9-esque". I can see why it's been made so as to resemble how the original SoundApp was looking (which isn't bad), but it looks a bit hastily created and would benefit from some more afterthought and polish.

EASER  When I first went looking for an OS X equivalent of this program, I found Folder Player. I still prefer it to SoundApp, even in this new incarnation. Granted, SoundApp is free, but Folder Player has given me more options, and I don't have to have a dozen windows open when I want a different playlist.

**...

LOUKASH  Unlike in the old Mac OS days, in OS X there are several ways to preview (or rather *pre-hear*) audio files in Finder without even launching another application:

- Column View (cmd-3)

- Get Info window (cmd-I)

- floating Inspector window (cmd-opt-I)

All you need to do is to open the Preview section then...

Opening a sound file with QuickTime Player doesn't seem to me as much overkill either, certainly not more than lauching *any* other app to play an audio file. And QT's Info window shows a lot of, well, *info* as well.

So as a player SoundApp Reborn seems only a waste of Dock space so far. It doesn't even accept Drag&Drop on its icon yet.

If you can bring back all the format conversion that the old SoundApp could do, then you may have a winner though! :)

JORY  Yay! Although it doesn't have the conversion functionality, it's got all the features I love about SoundApp (which I *still* use on my OS9-based Pro Tools rig).

Thanks for bringing us up to OS X!
