SUPIDUPI Nice app, ok price, loving the batch option, the speed of opening the tracks but few suggestion to make it a definite sound editor - when I want to zoom, it should zoom to the place I point my mouse to, like in any great audio editor on pc or mac (sound studio/sound forge etc.) - when applying AU-s make them work real-time,so when I insert a limiter or an Eq or a inspector that I can see what to change or what happens real time - option to make the Enter button be the one to go to the start of the clip - add the crop/cut button to the toolbar - level meters to the right of the editor,or below it, it should be there by default, - zoom to document should be a default option, not the additional one, cause it's main purpose is to edit a certain clip when I remember other suggestions I'll write again :) still divided between it and Sound Studio, hoping at least one of them gets closer to Sound Forge or Audition options, intuitivity and workflow (Version 1.4.4)

JPANDREWS Found that I could no longer open .wma files immediately after upgrading to 1.4.4. If that function is important to you, perhaps you should wait to see if it's a problem with 1.4.4 (as opposed to some unique anomaly with my system). (Version 1.4.4)

PLASTERPYRUS Great piece of application, a definite recommendation to anyone that needs an excellent sound editor with out having to pay a lot. The developers are great unlike others they have a very generous license policy and aren't asking for an upgrade price every year, and have been developing Mac applications for quite a long time and the interface is very intuitive, the way a mac application should be, cu-does. CABBAGE Bug with 1.4.4. I have a 90 minute .wav and I do Sound > Split According to Markers. I choose FLAC with level 8 compression. When I hit save a popup appears saying. This has never happened in any previous versions. Same thing happens when I try to Split to .wav. *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: mutating method sent to immutable object (Version 1.4.4)

BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP... YEAH! About 1 year ago I bought this app as a 'light-weight' option next to the more heavier Wave Editor & DSP-Quattro. For the money ($40) you'll be buying a sound recorder/editor with an extremely good value: - About as easy as it gets - Supports a wide range of audio formats - Click repair is intuitive & functional - Basic multi-track editing & recording - VST & AU plug-in support To my personal taste the software looks a bit too aqua-ish, but it's not really a problem. The GUI can be customized a bit, however it would be nice if the look & feel could be customized a bit more in a future version (f.e. color of the main window, button style...) Some other options I've tried (Sound Studio, Audacity, etc) just don't do the job for me. Either they feel too unintuitive or there are too many functions missing. Of course more specialized apps are available, but these are quite a bit more expensive: - With Wave Editor ($79) you'll be getting pro-options like DDP import/export, iZotope 64-bit DSP, conversion & dither, customizable shortcuts - With DSP-Quattro ($199) you'll get an unrivaled smooth editing experience, pro conversion, redbook cd-burning etc... To most people who're asking me for advise what editor to use on the mac however, I'll recommend Amadeus Pro. It's the audio editor who'll do the job for most of us! (If still doubting, just run the demo and see for yourself.) (Version 1.4.3)

EASER I grew up with the old SoundEdit 16, and I like AP's interface precisely because it is reminiscent of that program. Indeed, one of my biggest panics when moving from Classic to OS X was what I would use for sound editing. AP is my top choice. I don't do any kind of professional work, but I do a lot of tinkering with songs for personal pleasure; so sound quality is still very high on my priority list. AP has never let me down. BMEEKS24 I like the features - and it does EXACTLY what I needed. I wanted something that would record church sermons and music ministry - and allow me to set markers for tracks and click one button to split and create complete MP3 files. Now the one major con - and it is huge in my opinion. Who the @#**^%* came up with the key shortcuts? Marker insert is SHIFT CMD M - not CMD M as one would think - but if you do inadvertently hit CMD M - then you will minimize the window. A minor con - the preview wav at the top of the screen doesnt show playhead position - but it is helpful when zoomed in. But overall - this is a great application and I will probably buy it. But I must say that for double the money - Sound Studio is also very clean and does a great job, but it also has it's cons - mainly (as stated) it costs twice as much! But the controls are a bit more intuitive. (Version 1.4)

ANONYMOUS Zoom in / out is also just +/- and creating a marker is just 'm', which I think is as intuitive as it gets ;-) Note also that: - There is a list of available shortcuts in the manual. - The shortcuts of menu items can be fully customised in the system preferences. (Version 1.4.1)
| Apr 30 2009 |
BMEEKS24 Funny - you are right, I was looking at the shortcuts as listed in the menu bar - but +/- and m all work. I am a man's man - so I don't read manuals!!! Maybe a good time to start once i get the egg off my face! I also learned how to make custom shortcuts and made it how I like it - so this is really a great title. (Version 1.4.1)

BMEEKS24 Still loving this one. I use it twice a week at church. It is awesome. Now my only con is that I wish it had a better input meter. I am trying ProLevel, but the hooks needed to make it work make it a cumbersome mess - I would love to see that sort of input level meter on the app - one that has RMS and peak hold. I keep having trouble getting a good loud recording - it will sometimes be either too low or peaked out. I am usually recording myself live and cannot monitor the whole time. Something even cooler would be a real-time software volume monitor at the input, like Garageband - like a personal engineer riding the fader. It is still just the coolest performance recorder on the market. Get it!!!! (Version 1.4.3)

ATTICUS X This has become the IDEAL application for simple audio editing and converting sound files. In addition to its standard editing and recording functionality, Amadeus Pro lets you apply custom fades, add a variety of effects (including most VST and Audio Unit effects), insert text markers for your own reference, analyze and change various characteristics of your audio (bit rate, stereo/mono, etc), and a lot more. The batch processor saves time when you're performing the same operation(s) on many audio files. In fact, the whole interface is designed for efficiency: elegant, intuitive, streamlined... and very stable. For advanced multitrack editing you may prefer to use a more advanced multitrack editor (e.g., Logic, Ableton Live, Pro Tools), but for most everyday editing, I find Amadeus preferable. The developer is active and responsive to queries. The manual (accessible from the Help menu) is thorough and simple to understand. When troubleshooting becomes necessary, the user forum on the developer's website can be a great help. Amadeus is more than worth the low price and is altogether an essential piece of software for anyone that edits audio on a Mac. (Version 1.4)

P.S. In my personnal selection: The number 2 is Fission of Rogue (not bad, under const I think ;) good interface but the cut mode is too bad. Peak?Euh...have you see the price? (Version 1.3.2)

CLOAKNDAGUERRE Wow! As a photographer who edits a lot of audio for blogs and audio slide shows, this is a Godsend. Working in the newspaper industry, with deadlines and the frequent pressures of working in the front seat of a car or on the fly, Amadeus Pro is truly wonderful. It's powerful (sorry, Fission), stable (sorry, Audacity) and a real joy to use (sorry, GarageBand). The interface is elegant and intuitive, and the features, speed and capability of this app make it a steal for the money. I've given up my ProTools LE/Mbox dongle and all the other multi-track editing apps that lived in my dock for months. This is hands-down my favourite. (Version 1.3.2)

ISTRA When I came to know Amadeus, it didn't take me longer than a few hours to decide (and buy immediately) this application. I can't recall it crashing -except a short period when I was tweaking my system; but then every appl. on my mac did the same... I've been working with it for many months and it's so intuitive, fast and obedient that I don't think I'll ever need to change for another application. Amadeus Pro is an ideal tool for what I'm doing (classical music, vocal and instrumental, and recited literary texts). My feeling is that I can totally concentrate on the artistic content and the esthetic side of things, than have to fight with the overblown software of today. This is real efficiency! The maker is also very responsive to questions and it seems he's *personally* working on the software. Just call it trustworthy :-) And to talk about the price? Come on guys!!!!! (Version 1.3.1)

But no problem, my time is not so important. No, this is not SoundEdit on OS X. It just a buggy look-a-like. It was always buggy and unstable under OS 9 and now continues this tradition under OS X, well done, really. Amadaeus is/was always buggy, Sound Studio is and was always buggy, Audacity is the pure horror, - So what to buy for midpriced semipro audio work on OS X? (Version 1.3)

I will try Logic Express then, hope the few quirks you mentioned are no serious bugs. I was really angry about this "Amadeus"-thing, - it is so sad when you spend a nice & sunny saturday afternoon on your Mac, try out an app and all your results are lost then because of stupid bugs. Maybe the developers think, if they sell cheap they don't need to bugfix their apps well, but it is the time the tester wastes that counts, that is far more worth than the little money. And multiplicate that with the many testers, what a big waste of time that is. OK, let's test Logic Express tomorrow, hope tomorrow will be a rainy day ;-) (Version 1.3)

MARTIN HAIRER Sorry for your bad experience. If the MDA plug-ins crash on your computer, then you may well have discovered a bug in the plug-ins and not in Amadeus Pro. I am a bit surprised however, since they seem to work fine for me and for several thousands of users. It might also be that some third-party extension of your operating system causes the crash. I do believe that Amadeus Pro is exceptionally stable and do take all bug reports very seriously. If you can reproduce a crash, please send me a crash log, together with instructions on how to reproduce the crash and I will endeavour to fix it as quickly as possible. Regarding the lost files, temporary files are moved to the trash by Amadeus Pro and can be reopened by using the "Import Raw Data" function. (Version 1.3)

ALBION I bought a license for this years ago... same problems. Even with all plug-ins disabled, simple edits often ended in crashes. Audacity is buggy as hell and annoying to use, but is at least free. Hopefully Amadeus and Audacity will improve with maturity, but they've both been in development for quite some time... So many great apps for OS X these days, yet this is apparently a difficult thing to develop. Puzzling. (Version 1.4)

ANDY HEWITT Excellent product. I got this with the last MU Bundle, and was using Audacity before that. This is much faster, more stable, and easy to use. Does a fine job of filtering noise from old LPs and cassettes. Well worth getting if you have modest audio requirements. (Version 1.3)

CPUKAHUNA CORRECTION: I should have said BEST in this PRICE RANGE. Apple's "Logic" group of recording software would 'logically' count as being at the top of the field. But one would obviously be investing considerably more bucks as compared to Amadeus' cost. (Version 1.2)

GARLICBREATH OK, I found the temp file in the trash, like it says in the manual, but using import raw data on it produced a file completely filled with noise. MARTIN HAIRER There was a permissions problem with the original archive of Amadeus Pro 1.1.1 (for example, it would not launch from a non-admin account). At $25, it's a no-brainer! How Rogue Amoeba thinks they can get away charging $30 for Fission, which does nothing but split files up, is beyond me. Compared with Amadeus Pro, Fission should be Freeware. Amadeus Pro has so many surprising, wonderful features I'm thoroughly delighted.
