FONSR  Reading the other comments, I guess I'm not technical enough. I purchased Paperless in the MacUpdate bundle and have enjoyed using it sense. Does what I what it to do. Purchased the Pentax DSmobile scanner to work with it. I use it for receipts and documents as I move toward a paperless office. If you want a simple app that allows you to scan, file, and easily search paperless docs, you may want to give it a try.

MARK97  I own several Mariner products, MacJournal, Paperless and MacGourmet Deluxe. I like their apps, but they lack speedy support. There is no reason that paperless should be finally partially updated a month after the release of Snow.

It's plainly obvious that Mariner's office apps are nearly dead. The world has moved on. The world will move on from the rest of the catalog unless Mariner gets it together and brings their speciality apps up to date before inventing new ones. I like Paperless, but I shouldn't have to wait this long for a partial maintenance upgrade. They should be all over this stuff putting out solid apps. Currently the only app that is really solid is MacJournal.

DASEIN888  Yeah, MacJournal is well-executed and represents what Mariner is capable of, but the rest of the new batch epitomises mediocrity, not best in class. That's what they should be seeking.

I really want to like and support Mariner, but each time I hold my breath and buy another one of their products, I am once again disappointed with the sloppiness. Mariner needs to focus like a laser and ensure that a perception of excellence is what one feels when using their products. I use to get that but now it's the last thing that comes to mind.

DASEIN888  I keep seeing Mariner products on discounted sale nearly everywhere, and I'm on their mailing list and get discounted promotions all the time. It started sounding like desperation marketing over a year ago.

Go back to your roots, to the quality you had in Mariner Write. There was pride in that piece of software that has since disappeared.

Forget the discounting of increasingly mediocre products, and for having so many products that overlap. Mariner is developing a seriously damaged reputation, Logan, and you guys will go the way of other similar strategies over the past 20 years... Trying to grow too big and doing nothing right.

I see on the Mariner website that Contour is being ported to the iPhone.

Huh? That's your priority? You're porting Contour to the iPhone? Why? What is the purpose of porting a screenplay outlining programming to the iPhone? Such a misguided strategy for your resources, when so many of your existing products need serious work.

I'd recommend fixing Montage and Contour first, as both have a lot of basic problems that are obvious to any user and haven't been addressed in over year. You promised over a year ago that both would be integrated so they work together, but they still don't. You'd have a kick-ass programme if you brought together Montage, Contour, and Story Mill.

Instead you have three has-been products that really are over-priced and under-performing. So you have to keep discounting them.

Nearly every scanner comes with software similar to Paperless. Why are you wasting time with offering yet another?

I'd read Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Logan. Return to Quality, with a capital Q.

BENR  The company proudly tweeted a few weeks ago, "We now have more applications in active development than you can shake a stick at, including *3* iPhone apps".

It shows.

They should really consider whether they want more mediocre apps "than you can shake a stick at", or fewer polished, bug-free, best-in-class apps.

I own several Mariner programs, and I'm increasingly disappointed in their attitude.

JOHN-O  I gotta agree with the previous reviewer... This program worked really well, and had great promise, as ReceiptWallet. Then Mariner comes along and snatches it up, throws an ugly icon on it, and basically sets it back a year or more...

Now, they're making claims about working on it, making it compatible with Snow Leopard, but they still haven't fixed one of the most basic bugs [it has a nasty habit of jumping back into the foreground when it saves it's database at regular intervals; bad form!]!!

I sure hope they can start to see and hear the disappointment among the users, and get off their a$$ and make the program what it could be!!

Come on Logan, we know you can do it, so just get on it already, okay??

DASEIN888  Unfortunately, Mariner has lost the plot with their acquisition spree over the past couple of years, I think.

I've purchased several of their products, including this one, and overall there are two problems with every one: 1) half-baked implementation with bugs and/or 2) half-baked implementation that misses obvious opportunities.

I loved Mariner Write. But with each acquisition the thought behind either each new product or the adaptation of each acquisition is somewhat careless or just plain sloppy.

Mariner needs to slow down and clean up their existing product line. The existing ones are mediocre, but they have the material for consolidating some of them and making GREAT products.

But they prefer to offer their products at half price in numerous promotions, and people still fall for it.

Logan, you guys have such great potential to create great products. Stop with this spree of buying up products that are beyond your core expertise. Make what you have perfect and excellent.

MIKAELF  This is a seriously flawed product!

Try this!

Create an encrypted Document Library.

Add some documents.

Choose File > Remove Encryption.

Watch a new EMPTY library show up.

All documents gone!!!

DOMINIQUE PERETTI  Paperless is only application to address a simple issue : to properly archive snail mail.

Other applications just don't get you need for that purpose : an author, a title, a date, a category...

Surprisingly you cannot do that with Devon or Yep.

Sadly, Paperless has SEVERE bugs which prevent you from properly update a title or a field because of a totally flawed auto-completion. (What you type is replaced on-the-fly with previous entries)...

RNETTER  Paperless launches very slow on my Intel Mac. It takes at least 2 to 3 minutes to launch and an other 30 seconds to analyses the pdf. When I print a receipt to a pdf paperless is not launching so I have to do it twice: The frist time it launches paperless and the second time it starts processing the receipt. All of this makes Paperless useless for me. I liked ReceiptWallet but it over time it had the same problems and they did get fixed when RW become Paperless. Mariner Software managed to destroy a lot of software which starts out free or cheap with an enthusiastic developer but then when Mariner Software takes over and the software slowly seems to die or improve less. So don't buy this software. I wish Devonthink would analyses my receipts then DT would be the way to go for me.

DONTIB  Awesome program. I am truly getting a mostly paperless environment. Easy to use and powerful. You can scan with a single pass or multiple pass for multi page documents (the multi pages goes into one document and you select the page you want) I simply don't understand the bad reviews. The only problem I see is with having a scanner that directly works with the program .. fortunately I do (only one scanner works out of three that I have .. need Twain). But you do not have to scan directly into the program. This is a great program .. can't wait for an update.

BS0D  Wow, I just tried this today to see how it works - gave it the benefit of the doubt after my first try...

Honestly, this is the worst rip-off of all time. If I could rate it 0, I would without any hesitation because it makes me so mad.

I can hardly believe a developer would come up with such a useless application AND MAKE PEOPLE PAY the ridiculous price of $45 for it on top of that!

It's basically a folder with jpeg files inside, except you access it through a nice little interface. Unbelievable.

And does it really need to be as big as 11.6 Mo, cause I'm sure I could launch Xcode and make the same thing 2 or 3 Mo and free of charge.

I'm soooo glad it was included in the bundle and this purchase was not voluntary (unfortunately it pains me to see that I still gave a bit of my money for this).

Sure you don't have bundles of receipts in your closets anymore, but you still waste hours scanning them and (waste space on your hard drive), so good luck.

THEOTREO  I thought I was doing something wrong until I realized that this app does nothing. It's just a viewer for some jpgs basically with a little calculator. No OCR.

I thought it would do some work for you - but you have to enter EVERYTHING yourself. You could do that with a jpg folder and a xls file.

So pretty useless as is...

LLONGLEY  So far so good. Been using this since it's release. The reviews for Receipt Wallet were great and a friend had upgraded from receipt wallet and really liked this software so I thought I'd try it. I use it to organize more than 5000 PDF's that were floating around my computer both work and personal items. I now have all IRS documents (checked with the IRS and its OK), paperwork from our income property, insurance policies, medical records, etc organized, tagged and easy to locate.

I settled on this because after months with Yep! I had some concerns about retaining the effort i had put into it. Devonthink Pro Office was over kill for my needs, had an extremely detailed and cumbersome learning curve and I did not like the interface at all (very un-Mac like). In addition I have used Yojimbo, SOHO Notes, together and on and on.

I like the fact that my actual documents were not herded into a proprietary database (this program gives you the option to not move everything). Yep also does not move your data to a database but on more than one occasion I was unable to recover my metadata (and that was a lot of work lost). Not all programs are for everyone. However, the unhelpful flaming on a program that some people clearly do not understand and have never used is counter productive to what these reviews are intended to do. I say that some of the comments are from people who have not used the program as some of the comments are "off the wall".

I appreciate reviews that alerts me to a bad developer, poor developer customer service and most of all poor software functionality but I can do without the pointless flaming.

Not saying this is the end all of software and I may move on if it does not continue to meet my needs. With one freeze so far all is good. With regard to OCR, the program does do OCR on the receipt side but OCR has not been added to the PDF side yet. However, most of the competition does not do OCR either. Devonthink Pro Office does but for the $100+ difference between the price tags of the two it should. But as I said, so far so good.

BS0D  Hello LLONGLEY,

It's fair enough, I understand you have found a use for it and if you're ready to invest $45 in this then good for you.

I did get a little carried away in my review there, but I mean every single word I wrote. It is waaaay too expensive for what it does. And to correct what I said about the app's size, it's actually over 20Mo once installed: being a developper myself on my free time, I really don't see how you can make an app this big for doing so little!

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the developers of Paperless are bad ones, or that their customer service is bad (never had to contact them, and never will): just saying that they could use their programming skills for something more useful and most of all CHARGE LESS!

NORIKER  I don't understand what this application does. As far as I understood, it can't even do OCR, so it doesn't actually offer a digital form of your receipts, just stores jpgs. Why not just scan your jpgs and put them in a folder?

MTCOBRA  This program doesn't quit. I mean that it doesn't QUIT when you tell your computer to Shut Down, and you forgot to Quit this program, Shut Down won't. You can't quit it from the Dock, only from the menu bar.

Otherwise it does what it does as advertised.

But I just don't trust a program that won't quit, so I discarded it totally.

UMIJIN  Yes, you are correct. I found out after I rebooted the app the second time and walked out of the room. It would be nice if there was some dialogue box indicating that the app was importing or moving or whatever. Unfortunately, the new developer for the app hasn't bothered to give upgrade notes or suggestions for old RW users.

PEEBIX  This is a top-notch application, both in general terms of providing a good user interface, and in specific terms of providing perfect functionality for managing receipts. I've been scanning and storing receipts using a home-grown process for a while now, but this boosted my input speed maybe 10x. The application is very clean and minimal, with features such as fast-entry for repeat items, or later modification of entries, being handled just right for convenient use. It worked straight away with my scanner (Canon LIDE 100). It creates reports, which is an added bonus that I had not expected. And it comes with related functionality (DocumentWallet) for keeping a document store, and I have started to use that equally successfully. Very nice work.

DAVIDUSMUSICUS  I am impressed by ReceiptWallet's endless possibilities. I only start to realize what becomes possible with this application.

Some time ago I purchased DevonThink Office Pro, which is great of course, but storing documents and receipts with ReceiptWallet is just the best way to do it. Thanks for this wonderful app. It's definitely worth the price.

DAVID.ABRAMOWITZ  Saw ReceiptWallet as a MUPromo, and thought, hey, here's a program I could really use. Then I proceeded to miss the deadline for purchase, but wound up buying it at regular price anyway and have no regrets.

The interface is very much in line with Apple apps we're used to like iPhoto and iTunes, and the Smart Folder feature is a great way to organize collections of receipts. Integration with Apple Mail lets you quickly send the whole batch of receipts to whomever needs them. I also appreciate the total amount at the bottom of the screen, which allows me to quickly check whether my expense report and the ReceiptWallet total are in sync. Exporting to .csv is also very useful for me, making it easy to put the data in my business expenses spreadsheet for tax purposes.

I'd love to have ReceiptWallet fill in the fields of my expense report, but that's not what it's for. It does what it's supposed to do elegantly and consistently. If you travel, this is a fantastic program to keep track of your receipts, and in my case e-mail them in bulk to corporate. If you ever lose the paper receipts, ReceiptWallet has you covered.

SHERMAN  This is a GREAT program. Simple, with a focused function that does just what it was designed to do with great elegance. I keep not only scanned in receipts but also PDF receipts (emailed, or webpage receipts). Also, my bank lets me download PDF monthly statements. I use ReceiptWallet to keep these too. Printing them all up as a report is very useful (especially come tax time).

Developer is amazingly responsive.
