SAM ROWLANDS  Its nice to see History applied to a sound editor and the non-destructive effects, and its so far very stable. I tried the free Audacity, trying to perform simple functions made it crash.

As for features, its kind of nothing special, you can get more outa Garage Band which comes FREE with your Mac.

I find the interface somewhat confusing, especially the way how it allows for multiple sounds to be open at once. I would prefer each sound in its own window or to be able to see all the sounds at once.

I personally think that the interface controls (buttons, sliders, tabs and such) are hideous, reminds me of some bad haxie theme.

All in all the only advantage of SoundBooth is the history, but its only a matter of time till the other choices add this ability. I was excited to hear that this was in the spirit of SoundEdit 16, but let down by the confusing, cumbersome interface and lack of "features".

BEDOUIN  I know it's a beta, and I know more features will be added later -- but I'm just not seeing how this is any better than some of the alternatives already available, namely Audacity (which is free) and Sound Studio Pro.

From the start I tried to open an MP3 file in it but couldn't and had to convert it to an AIFF first. I'm still not sure what's so groundbreaking about this program that it couldn't be compiled for PPC as well.

JMROSSOL  I'm not an audiofile by any means... but I could selectively remove pieces of sound from a recording I made in a loud room. It has potential. This program is kind of like the "aperture" of Adobe -- cool features, but limited scope.

BEDOUIN  Intel only? Could this be one of the first apps released as Intel only that actually serves a universal purpose (i.e., not utilities designed to address Intel Mac issues)?

I wonder what made this impossible to create for PPC.

JORY  A nice first-try effort. The UI is better than most 2-trk editors I've seen. I'm sure there will be more features added and it will be come useful at some point.

At the moment, it doesn't do a ton, but the app does exhibit some nice ideas. I especially like the editing paradigm of dragging tabs from the left or right to trim the file, the fades being dragged, and the method of adjusting gain on any selection.

The spectral editing is pretty damn cool, too, and I hope more detail and ability is added to that. It could be incredibly useful for dialog editing & clean-up on films.
