ARVIDTP  Great piece of software. I use it on stage while performing with other musicians - they can see the settings of their effects etc. running on my macbook pro wirelessly from the other side of the stage using another laptop. Much easier than bringing another display to gigs.

IAMDMANN  fantastic implementation, no problem to set up...i only wish there was a way to have the program demand higher system resources for faster performance. i love that it normally doesn't take too many resources, but sometimes i don't mind if i can't run as many applications or if my network slows down a bit. that said, i've been waiting for over a year for new apple displays to come out and while my 17 inch g5 imac isn't a 23 inch cinema display 20 bucks is a great deal to get more screen space without buying any more kit. performance on a macbook C2D 2.2 is great, performance on a mini CD 1.8 is great too...really nice that i can start the program through screen sharing on the imac g5 and then switch my keyboard/mouse to the mini and have a display for my previously headless mac mini. the only other issue is that there is not an easy way to find student pricing, but on a 25 dollar application you're very likely to come out ahead without student pricing...unless you can pick up a display for 20 bucks.

VETTIE7  I have a iMac G4, running OSX 10.4, it's DVD head is shot and it only has 256 MB Ram, but all else still good. Instead of wasting $ fixing/updating it, I was hoping to buy a new Mac Mini and use the iMac as a screen. It sounds like it would be possible with this program. Any thoughts, ideas, advice much appreciated.

Cheers

TWISTERMC  I can't get it to install. When it gets to 'select a destination' nothing shows. Help.

VVARP  Unique concept, great implementation and included VNC client works like a charm (not to mention it's one of the best in the range) - I use it everyday!

MIKEDB66  VNC with a PC works great. The developer responded immediately to my issue, and the fix worked perfectly.

MMCSHANE63  Great proof of concept. The developer was very quick to respond to my email and courteous with it.

I'm using it with an Intel CD, 2G in conjunction with a G3 iMac or a G4 eMac or an Intel MacBook. Apart from fairly sparse instructions I don't think ir gets much better.

LUKEARTS  Version 0.88(779) works great for me best version to date. It app just keeps getting quicker. Until now...

Version 0.90(800) cause a kernel panic on the main mac at boot. If the machine actually gets to the startup screen all graphics are completely heterogeneous and I am unable to do anything other than a hard reset.

Started in safe boot, removed .kext and restarted fine. I've since installed 0.88 again and all is working.

TOMIS  Networked two macs together via direct Firewire cable. Couldn't get a usable framerate no matter what settings I tried. And there were numerous stability problems.

iMac G5 2ghz 512MB

iBook G4 1Ghz 768MB

It's a good tech demo, can't wait until it's actually useful. Combine it with some sort of wireless transmitter/receiver and you could have a really cool product.

JOLLY AKA PATRICK  Can you specify which stability problems you ran in please ?

Using your setup should work quite usable, so I'm interested if you could provide me with more data.

RICOBLUES  Great app! Works fine with my iMac G5 and my old iBook G4. The developer great courtesy and fast responses to my questions. Perfect when using software with tools or a lot of windows.

Need a little work to install and the Vnc client supplied work only on Tiger (if you have an old Mac I think you have often an old Osx) and this features must be enhanced.

NEUTRALZONE  Well, maybe you're not most Mac users. Maybe you're only on your first Mac. After 3 or 4 years, every Mac user ends up with a spare computer, when you get a newer one. Unless you eBay your old Mac or give it to a family member, you'll have a spare computer soon.

In my case, I have two primary computers, a desktop and laptop, and Screen Recycler helps me make the most of all my monitors.

8BIT-WINTERMUTE  Puzzled by the comment "Most Mac users have a spare computer sitting right next to their main computer on their desk"

I certainly don't

PEANUT BUTTER  i don't, but I have a PC under my desk (usually off, with monitor sitting on desk powered down), 5 old ibooks on the shelf in deep storage, and a imac in the closet. But do I want to power up any of those macs just to use the screen? No. I would like to be able to use the PC's screen without disconnecting the cables and getting a 2nd video card for the mac - this could be the trick.

MACLOVER1.1  WOW I love it when developpers think of truly new stuff... instead of all doing the same thing like say: TinkerTool, Onyx and all that bunch... redundant... yep be creative people.. now this is NEW :-)

IMACJASON  im sorry, should of been more specific. large videos (on a 1280x1024 screen) on a mac mini (intel core solo) screenrecycler uses about 20-25% and the WindowServer chews up about 40%. moving to the internal display lowers CPU usage significantly. anyways.. this app is awesome, probably the most stable alpha software ive used in a long time.

IMACJASON  Great little app! Uses few resources, rescued my windows machine from a life in the closet. Perfect for someone that has a mac that cant do mutiple displays in hardware (like me). only one downside... video takes a lot of CPU on a single core mac mini. This program is off to a great start, hope the developer keeps up the good work.

JOLLY AKA PATRICK  Hmmm are you sure that ScreenRecycler uses the CPU ? ScreenRecycler should not exceed a maximum of 10% CPU on a fast ethernet network when sending video.

On an idle remote screen it should not cost more than 1% CPU utilisation.
