DOUG MATTHEWS I've got ver. 3.1.0 running on my iMac with iTunes 9.0.2 on Snow Leopard 10.6.1 with no problems; sounds great and it's a big improvement on my 2.1 speaker setup. for all those who complain about SRS customer service, all I can say is I had great service and quick response when I emailed Michael (MichaelG at srslabs.com); I don't know them personally but SRS delivered what they promised and I have no problem recommending them to anyone. CSCHOOLLAND The technology is oustanding. Even the presets for different speaker types (internal, external, headphone) are fabulous (though my iMac seems to fall somewhere in-between). This is a great investment for anyone wanting to automatically improve the quality of your digital audio and get the most out of your high kbps, without paying hundreds of dollars or more for a state-of-the-art sound system (or, in addition to, why not?). As for customer service, some have complained about the activation limitations with no customer support. After using iWow for years, I began experiencing activation issues today (I boot externally between two machines), contacted CS, and got a helpful reply TEN MINUTES LATER. They've got my support! NIPOLATUSIDEROMANOJI SRS iWOWMAC 3.1 is disabled by the installer of Snow Leopard 10.6.2 as being incompatible. I hope, this time, there will be a free update to the next version. 3.1 dates back to June 25, 2009. Obviously, an update is needed. Was it this plug-in that was responsible for iTunes to freeze now and then when downloading podcasts? Maybe yes, maybe no. (Version 3.1)

YESUAINI99 I've bought iWOW twice, both with the bundles, but every time something upgrades in Mac like iTunes, Snow Leopard, whatever, the iWow stops working and requires a upgrade purchase. Imaging if Microsoft Office is charged in a similar fashion to users, it would cost thousands of dollars. Therefore, my conclusion is that this app's average cost of ownership is more expensive than that of Microsoft Office and majority of other software because it requires endless upgrade purchases. The company takes every opportunity to draw your blood whenever a Mac OS update, iTunes update, version update, even security updates. It is so ridiculous. I would suggest everyone gather to boycott this company and make sure they have some kind of free upgrade policy clearly defined. I am not saying there should not be upgrade charges, but I am asking for a reasonable, fair, legitimate upgrade charge when warranted. (Version 3.1)

BALTHAZAR B I'm pretty impressed with how iWow makes music richer and warmer, but I have a few large misgivings about the support behind the product. I downloaded the free two week trial of iWow to test it out. When you open iTunes an iWow window pops up asking for you to register it or you can click a Demo or Cancel button. The problem is that neither the Demo nor the Cancel button works. I have to force quit iTunes and then reopen iTunes and when the iWow window pops up it does actually work. I have to do this every time which is just ridiculous. I wrote to iWow's support right away about this and two weeks later I have had no response. The other day they posted a coupon code for iWow to their blog and I was willing to overlook this issue and buy it. The site asks you to login at checkout and I logged in with the login I had created when downloading the trial, however it didn't work. I even had it email me the password twice to be sure and tried to re-register with my email, but it said the address was already registered. It was at this point that I gave up. I really wanted to give them my money, but this is absolutely ridiculous. (Version 3.1)

Then I tried to Email them with the Email address below and no answer. Today I get a promo for half off version 3. Ive moved on to Hear. I havent seen support (lack of) and non-response to customers this bad since Chronos had been for a couple of years. FLORIDAPHILLIP I sent an e-mail to the developer (csonline@srslabs.com) and in less than 24 hours got a link to a new version that works with OS 10.6. iTunes works fine now. Good service. MC_SHIZZEL Can't even demo the software on my Mac Pro running iTunes 9 on Snow Leopard. After launching iTunes it just pops up with the registration box, the only working buttons are Check for Update, Buy Now, and (presumably) Register. Clicking on Demo or Cancel seems to do nothing and leaves me stuck on the window, go figure. Although I was able to demo it on my old Mac running iTunes 9 on Tiger and the plug-in works pretty well. MICHAEL @ SRS LABS Are you running any other audio enhancement software on your Mac? If the answer is yes, it is possible that it has something to do with that. If the answer is no and you have never loaded iWOW on your system before, the trial should work fine. Regardless, simply uninstall iWOW by opening the SRS Labs folder in Applications, and select uninstall. This is the only way to remove it from your system. Once removed, redownload the software from our Web site and try it again. If you would like to purchase iWOW, we have come coupon codes that are active until October 31, 2009. Find them at our facebook page www.facebook.com/srslabs, or blog http://soundingoff.srslabs.com (Version 3.1)

Go to you applications folder, open the SRS Labs folder and choose the uninstall option. Then goto http://downloads.srs-store.com/SRSiWOWMAC.dmg and re-download the program and install it. If this doesn't get iWOW working it is because you were running version 2.0 that you purchased from macupdate.com, because it was purchased there we wouldn't have your email address in our system thus renders you ineligible for the update. If this is the case please email me at macupdate@srslabs.com with your registration number so that i can add you into our system and I will make it so that you're eligible for the upgrade price. MACFEVRE I've had it with iWow. I've paid for the original, then all the major updates. I originally thought it was pretty cool. It could make my system sound a lot "better" with the speakers I had. But now, it won't even let me use iTunes! Every single time I try and put in my license number, it gives back the message "Maximum number of activations exceeded." Not unlike others on here. Then it will not cancel out of the window! Hit cancel, ... Nothing. Try to switch to iTunes. Nope, it won't even let you do anything with iTunes. That window just will not go away. ALL messages to tech support go into this big file at the company, and every week they have someone delete that file. It's the only thing that I can think of that they are doing because I've written many times, and I've been ignored many times. Save your money. If something goes wrong, they'll sit back and laugh while ignoring all communications. (Version 3.1)

MICHAEL @ SRS LABS I'm going to begin by apologizing to anybody that has experienced problems upgrading to SRS iWOW 3.1. Version 3.1 was a free upgrade for those that purchased iWOW 3.0. I noticed that many of you were trying to upgrade to 3.1 from a 1.X or 2.X version. There is an upgrade fee to do that. We try very hard to respond to every inquiry we receive regarding our software, but we have a very small support staff as we are a small company; but to make right by all any of you that have experienced difficulties with the paid upgrade. Please send an email to macupdate@srslabs.com with your name, the version of iWOW that you are using, your serial number, the problems you're experiencing and I will personally make sure that all of your questions get answered and forwarded to the appropriate people. For everyone else that was unaware of 3.1 being a paid upgrade for non 3.0 users, I would like to offer you a discount on the upgrade. SATNAMSCOTT I`ve had the SRS iWOW product for itunes on my Apple macs for several years now. Versions 1 through 3 have all performed as promoted. In my estimation, Version 3 (when compared to V2) offers moderate improvements in definition/separation, better overall balance, in general a crisper, more clear, less "over driven" tone. I did prefer the version 2 window (the curious "wave/pulse" graphic aside) to the current one. With respect to the purchase itself I had no issues, no reason whatsoever to complain. The download/upgrade ($6.00) worked fine right from the start. btw. My current/main mac setup is as follows: 1 year old i-mac (2.8 duo) w. re-tread (local garage sale purchase for $10.00) JBL "Creatures" For me, the iWOW plug-in has really made all the difference. PERROBOY I too am suffering from the NSInternalInconsistencyException bug, where iTunes crashes on starting, and that ever since Feb. DO NOT PURCHASE this app without trying it out first. If you have this same issue you have to uninstall iWOW to get iTunes to work again. Have notified SRSLabs of the issue and they tell me "engineering is looking into it"! RIGHT!!!! and how long is that now? I know Apple has a bad habit of suddenly changing the way its apps work, but for this to take so long and there be no official acknowledgement of the problem NOR a fix is a BAD sign. FLASHGEN Looks like a lot of us are disappointed with version 3.0. I wouldn't mind so much, but I can't even find a download site for 2.0 :( trashed the DMG by accident when migrating and the "link" on SRS's site to download version 2 (it's in the FAQ at the bottom) isn't even a link. Couple that with the fact that the link on this page to upgrade to version 3 from 2 has expired. Macupdate bundle owners of iWow can't use SRS's upgrade system as they are not registered on their site :/. FYI You do get a bit of text to say to contact them about upgrading if you got it as part of the Macupdate bundle, but so far - after 7 days - I've still yet to get a response. Suffice it to say I won't be using this any longer (Version 3.0)

BOBZOZUS I too was perfectly happy with version 2.02 of SRS IWow that I received in a MacUpdate bundle. I too installed 3.0- much to my chagrin. Didn't add much. Had the same trouble as you all in reinstalling version 2. However, I finally was able to do so- don't know if it is a fluke- but perhaps it will work for you: 1. Used the unistaller for version 3. 2. Trashed the com.srs.iwow.plist file from my user library preference folder. 3. Trashed the Install SRS iWOW.pckg file from the receipts folder from the Library at the Root Level (Macintosh Hard Drive). If I am right, you have to trash not only the user preference file for SRSIWow- but the install package in the system library receipt folder entitled "install SRS IWow.pckg"- tricky, indeed. Especially because the pckg name starts with install & seperates the SRS & Iwow- rather than concatenating them like srsiwow is found everywhere else- foiling simple searches. If I'm correct, mighty devious, indeed! Oh, yes, including the uninstall app that works like sh*! is a mighty fine touch! (Version 3.0)

REESMAXWELL So before I asked them how to uninstall the app, I had posted a question on the SRS online comment form, asking what functionality I would gain by upgrading. Here is the response which I received just now from Jim Mercer: The new version has preconfigured presets more plug and play , if you are happy with version 2, I would stayput There you have it! No reason to upgrade, unless you want things more preconfigured for easy digestion. (Meaning, you get less control.) (Version 3.0)

REESMAXWELL I as well found that the new iWOW didn't seem to offer more than the previous version, and also had the problem of not being able to revert back to the prev. version. SO, I contacted Michael Bingham. Here is what he said: I'm out of the office for the rest of the weekend, but get back to you on Monday to discuss reverting back. Thank you for your support. That is not very convenient that he is away until after the sale. Sounds like all of you who are hoping to reach him about anything won't get an answer until this sale is over. It's really too bad that they weren't really set up to receive and respond to comments and problems when they knew they were going to get a lot of feedback on this product. (Version 3.0)

CHEZFUGU Yep, I agree. That's abysmal customer service during a special weekend promotion for their product. It's not like this is a tiny one-man shop. SRS claims to be 'the world leader in practical applications of the science of psychoacoustics' on their site. In reading the Mac Update tips for posting a good review or tip, the last point states that developers shouldn't unethically post star rating reviews for their own products or they will be added to a public blacklist. Perhaps there should be a blacklist for unacceptable customer service, and perhaps Mac Update should vet featured 3rd party developers a bit more closely... (Version 3.0)

CHEZFUGU I took v.3 for a 'test-drive' as suggested in the Mac Update E-mail I received today. A $6 upgrade seemed like a good deal. After a trial period, I decided v.2 sounded just as good, and decided that I wish to retain the ability to save custom presets (a discontinued feature in v.3). So I uninstalled v.3, deleted the .plist and application support folder from my User Library, rebooted, emptied the trash, then tried to reinstall v.2. It doesn't work. I receive a message that says I can't install v.2 because I already have a more recent version installed. I should also note that I couldn't delete the v.3 hidden files automatically (using Hazel, as I do with all apps I uninstall). I had to seek them out and authenticate to delete, even though I'm admin. I checked the permissions of these SRS files and discovered they were set to root. Huh? I then head to the SRS iWow FAQ page seeking a solution to reinstall v.2. The last FAQ on the list applies: "I installed iWOW Premium on my computer, but would like to revert back to the iWOW 1 or iWOW 2 version, how do I revert back to my original software?" I click on this and discover it's not linked (anchored) to the answer at the bottom of the page. Ok, no big deal. So I manually scroll to the bottom of the page to see the answer. It reads: "To revert back to your original version of iWOW 2 for the Mac, please click here. Your original custom presents will be reinstalled for your convenience." However, the 'click here' part is not linked to anything! Dead end. I then read through the comments in this forum to find that others are having the same problem. Terrible. But what really bothers me (aside from the fact that the app installed with root permissions) is that this has the appearance of a a bait-and-switch. I can well imagine that some people might go ahead and upgrade for the discount price of $6 because it's the easiest path to get the plug-in working again. And I assume that v.1/2 owners who try out v.3 direct from SRS face the same issue and may decide to go ahead and upgrade for $10. That's unacceptable. Comments here and on other sites also point to a very spotty record of customer service with this company. I'm wondering what's going on here. All things considered, I don't even think I want v.2 back on my system now. Seems like SRS has some bugs to work out of their software and business practices. (Version 3.0)

CUBITUS I acquired version 1 through a bundle. Version 2 came out a few weeks later as a paid upgrade. Even though I was bothered by the fact a paid upgrade was released just after a sale through a bundle I did try the demo for 2 to see if it was worth it and I got the same problem of not being able to revert back to version 1. I removed it from my system then. Now, I was offered this upgrade for 6$ and I was tempted but these comments make me realize the company is still using the same tactics. Seems like a good product from a company that is good at alienating its customers... (Version 3.0)

BOBZOZUS I had the same problem as you. No response from tech support (Michael Bingham). However, I followed the following steps, much like you: "So I uninstalled v.3, deleted the .plist and application support folder from my User Library, rebooted, emptied the trash, then tried to reinstall v.2. It doesn't work. I receive a message that says I can't install v.2 because I already have a more recent version installed." However, I went one step further- I deleted the package receipt in the admin library entitled "install srsiwow". Voila, I was able to reinstall version 2. Hope this helps you- perhaps I was just lucky! (Version 3.0)

MURRYFAX Is there same way you can still get hold of iWow 2.0? I apparently got it as part of an earlier MacUpdate boundle, but never remembered to download it. Now when I was reminded of it and wanted to try it, it turns out the download link in the letter from MacUpdate goes to 3.0 instead, which requires another serial number. Can anybody help me? And why can't someone simply recreate VolumeLogic or a comparable program? Between audio enhancers and Unsanity products, it's as if the more the Mac evolves, the more shareware de-evolves. Sad. CWHITE I just installed this update of SRS iWOW and it has major bugs. The last major update nearly two years ago was buggy and multiple attempts, including a phone call to get support were all unanswered. I got notification of this update and was excited, especially after seeing that the new plug-in was associated with Rogue Amoeba! I installed the plug-in on my Intel MacBook Pro running 10.5.6 and the latest version of iTunes, almost immediately I started getting error messages that my iPod couldn't be synced. Every time I attempted to touch an iTunes menu or change tunes the warning appeared. I've sent a message to Rogue Amoeba and removed the software, beware! Last time I paid for an upgrade and wasn't ever able to use it so make sure you try the demo before giving them any money. (Version 3.0.0.255)

O5220803 A surprisingly good enhancement for iTunes! For those "qualified, registered, users" the upgrade price of $9.99, from version 2.x to 3.x of iWOW is reasonable. The simplified interface is easy to use and requires no expertise, other than a good set of ears. The sound quality is clean and vibrant. Works seamlessly with VL and iTunes. It appears that iWOW 3 will "remember" one "Custom" setting at a time; saving multiple user-defined settings is not currently available. Overall, the retail price of $39.99 (Download) and $49.99 (Boxed version) is a bit steep for a new user, however, iWOW is a good product and worthy of a try by those who enjoy quality audio from their Macs. RICHARD TODMAN Beware. I've been a user since V1 but they've removed user presets from this version. I have emailed with my vote to re-instate this basic, unintrusive and fundamental functionality. Set and forget is fine if that's what you prefer but the user preset functionality of V2 in no way got in the way of that. Their FAQ page says on this that: "in order to provide the best customer experience, iWOW Premium has been designed to streamline the customer experience by eliminating the need for cumbersome customized presets." At best that's grossly patronizing to their customers and frankly disingenuous. In what way were presets "cumbersome"? In what way is the removal of one tiny interface button a significant "streamlining" of the "experience"? Less of the marketing-speak. Do they really have such a dim view of their customers' capabilities? Being able to save your preferred settings (which suit your particular speakers, program material and ear) is a basic, page one programming, useful feature, especially as there are now even more controls in the advanced settings to tweak. I'm sure the factory presets are very clever & effective but why give us all the advanced controls, if you're not prepared to allow us to save our tweaks? Please put user-presets back. WURZY81 I have also a problem with this software I buy the code for iWOW 1.1.9 in June 2007 Than when i Start iTunes there was a massage Welcome to iSRS Labs iWow updater. So as it was a update offer and not a upgrade i click on this click here to download. After Download and install i got an error Maximum number of activations exceeded. When I install the previos version same sh.. happens. I pay for this software than comes a update link wich I think it is for free and after updating there was no way to activate the software again or go back to the previous version. On an answer from the customer center I wait since Nocember 2007. So why pay again for the new iWOW 3.0.0 and than same sh.. happens after 5 months. HAUNTEDTAPEDECK Hm. A paid upgrade. This app had a well documented memory leak back in version 2 that caused many people to not be able to use it. No one who emailed support could get a reply. MACUPJK I *think* that version 2 is better. If I recall, version 2 had an "auto" preset feature where iWow would see the genre of the music you're playing, and automatically load the sound profile/preset that best matches that genre. This seems to be gone in 3? Also, if you install 3, even after you uninstall it, you cannot reinstall 2. The installer keeps saying you have a newer version on your drive (even though you uninstalled it). So if you're unsure. Don't install this. I just paid $10 for the upgrade. It sounds basically as good, but I'm really bummed at the loss of the auto preset feature. (Version 3.0.0.255)

ROBOTANK You can reinstall version 2, you just have to manually remove the components the uninstaller doesn't catch. I did this earlier today after trying version 3. SYZZYGY Outside of a UI redesign, there doesn't seem to be any sound enhancement improvements. If you've still got the previous iWow version, no point in upgrading. Just as a previous reviewer stated, when I installed the version3 update, it destroyed my version 2 files, so I went ahead and paid for the v.3 upgrade( only $10, so no big deal.) I, too, can't get my v.3 serial # to be accepted as valid. Same issue as I ( and many others, as well) had experienced with version 2, months ago. My God, dealing with SRS is such a pain in the kazoo. (Version 3.0.0.255)

PALADINO SRS's rather slimy(IMHO) business decision to upgrade only the UI for V.3 and thereby jack-up the purchase price for new buyers to $40 , enduces me to view that company with contempt. True, iWow is a fine product, but ongoing problems with serial # activation and lousy customer support as well as the current excessive price increase with no apparent sound enhancement improvements as well as the ploy to extract another $10 from v.2 users for an unnecessary upgrade makes me want to give that company THE FINGER. SYZZYGY Well, perhaps SRS , at long last, has improved its customer support. Yesterday, I emailed them about my v.3 serial number not accepted as valid. Apparently, those of us who have version 2 now have to pay the full price for version 3 ($39.95). There's no special upgrade price mentioned on iWow's website. Version 3 wiped out my version 2 files, so I can't go back to that one. It took months before I was able to get a valid serial number for version 2 from iWow. PHILMAC I'm not an audiophile, but I notice a huge difference in the music quality when using this program -- so much so that I bought AirFoil (as one must) in order to be able to use the plugin when playing music over AirPort Express speakers. There is one thing that irritates me, though. The "auto-preset" feature adjusts the equalizer to match the genre of your music as defined in iTunes, which is better than nothing. It would, however, be much more useful to me if it matched the "Equalizer Preset" defined in iTunes (when one has been chosen). I don't want to have to choose the "Acoustic" genre for the one song on a "Rock" album that sounds best with the "Acoustic" equalizer preset. (Version 2.0.2.255)

L0XBY When you first open iTunes with iWOW installed, it will use the CPU (9% on my MBP) when iTunes is idle (nothing playing). Once you open and close the iWOW setup window, iTunes idle CPU usage will drop back down normal (1% on my MBP). So there is something funky with this plugin that causes iTunes to use unnecessary CPU cycles if the iWOW window is not opened at least once after iTunes has started up. Other than that, it seems to do what it says. (Version 2.0.2.255)

The app does indeed make iTUnes sound great but their serial number implementation coding and complete absence of customer support is something will eventually affect every user. NICK LO Short review: You'll not want to use iTunes without this once you've tried it. A small suggestion I did try and send to SRS Labs but their contact form submission failed, is to take the About and Help off the grey toolbar area. When using iTunes and needing to bring the plug-in window into focus from behind iTunes I do what I do with other OS X applications and instinctively click the grey heading area. Unfortunately due to the small size this means I often hit the about or help menus which is frustrating and rarely what I'm after. About and Help would be much better incorporated within the window perhaps below the main settings as they are rarely accessed. (Version 2.0.2.255)

HELIOS9 I, too, needed to reregister iWOW (after doing an OS reinstall) and now, as many others have experienced, iWOW tells me that I've exceeded the number of allowable installations, so it won't accept my serial number...but this is only the second time that I've installed it, and on the same computer! And, once again, as many others have experienced, repeated emails to SRS support regarding this matter have met with a complete stone wall...no replies whatsoever! This issue regarding TOTAL AND COMPLETE LACK OF SUPPORT has been an ongoing one with SRS for quite some time now, going back well past a year. What the hell is wrong with them???!! After you purchase their product, they, in effect, spit in your face when you request assistance. The product is very good but their "support"(HAH!!!) stinks like an overflowing sewer on hot summer's day. I'm absolutely outraged! (Version 2.0.2.255)

DTRUETT1 DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS DEVELOPER. As in my comments below, when I upgraded to my Mac Pro, I got the message that there were too many installations. I have sent 3 Emails with the same result-A reply that I will be contacted, which I never am, then a message that the Email can't be delivered. Finally I used the support phone number on their site. No human answers the phone. I left a detailed message with both my phone numbers and my Email address with a request to get back to me. They never did. This company needs to expire under the tenets of capitalism. (Version 2.0.2.255)

INDICES Mediocre improvement to sound quality, but the real stickler is the refusal by the program to recognize your $20 registration number if you need to reinstall at a later date -- so the money is down the drain. Try the equalizer in iTunes with the preamp activated for small speakers on a laptop... (Version 2.0.2.255)

TAAMINATOR Warning: SRS iWow is a murder-suicide program. When Apple upgrades iTunes, iWow fails. iWow starts first, and, generates a failed-to-load pop-UNDER. Unfortunately, since iWow started first, it takes precedence over the new Apple iTunes license agreement. It's an infinite lock-out loop: You can't accept the Apple license, and, you can't dismiss the iWow-failed pop-under. The only workaround is to remove iWow. This is a classic example of extremely poor programming, or, it is a murder-suicide program. Since this is the second version of iWow with this 'feature' (We call it an intentional 'bug'.) (They have been told about it, repeatedly.), one can only conclude that it is malicious programming. Aside from that, I can't tell that iWow does anything for the music I play. I do not think it is worth the money for the intermittent use and the every-iTunes-upgrade problems. (Version 2.0.2.255)

MACUPDATE ADMIN There are three Macs in our home, in fairly continuous use: an old 900 MHz G3 iBook, a MacBook Pro C2D Intel, and a brand-new iMac (one month old). All of these Macs had the most recent version of iWow installed on them when I recently updated iTunes to version 7.6.1, on all of them. No issues whatever. iWow works as it always has for us (wife, daughter, myself) on our Macs. All running OS X 10.4.11, btw. (Version 2.0.2.255)

TAAMINATOR I am extremely happy that SRS iWow worked on your machines. I should have added that this problem recurred on an iMac G4 800MHz (Flat Panel) 10.4.11, a Titanium G4 800MHz 10.4.11, and, an iMac G5 2.1GHz 10.4.11, after the recent iTunes update, and, on all previous iTunes updates.

MACUPDATE ADMIN Fair enough. I should add that my sister in Kansas City (iMac G4, OS X 10.4.1.1) and my nephew in San Francisco (MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.11) and my nephew in Caracas, Venezuela (iMac Intel, OS X 10.4.1.1) have not had this problem either. There are other members of my family that use Macs, matter of fact all members of my family use Macs, but I have not heard back from them via email at present. (Version 2.0.2.255)

STEELPRIDE The best way to judge the quality of an app is by its support mechanism. For this product the support is non-existent. This software has also been a source of problems in iTunes. I've reinstalled it several times. Eventually it wouldn't re-register. I have sent SRS's support a question and request for assistance. So far I have been ignored. This to me reflects the sense of failure and avoidance on the dev's part(s). It also tells me they have no concern for their customers. Customers must feel reassured. Even lackluster products sell well when you have a good support mechanism. I won't believe in a software application until I can believe in their support. They have failed miserably. Good luck to those who purchase this app and hope you don't need support. Considering this is spotty software and no support you should avoid this all around miserable product. FOUNDRY DIGITAL DESIGN STUDIO This plugin caused iTunes to crash and not be able to quit. I reinstalled in many different configurations back to iTunes 7.4.2 on my OSX 10.5.1 system. And I reinstalled iWow. After each re-install I wiped the plists from the library (preferences) and restarted my computer. I am afraid that whatever the problem was, it was definitely with iWow. When I uninstalled iWow, iTunes finally worked again without fault: no problems quitting, no program crashes. So now SRS needs to fix their software, because I really love iWow. With much sadness I cannot use iWow until SRS fixes it. (Version 2.0.2.255)

PJLAM If your iTunes refused to quit and relaunch itself everytime, this program maybe the culprit. I went to Activity Monitor and found 2 instances of genredetection (part of the iWoW to auto detect the genre in the EQ). I force quit them and iTunes finally quit. And then I discovered Shock J's comments ... "Latest version of iWow (2.0.2.255) has a process called "genredetection." If iTunes 7.5 (in Leopard) quits unexpectedly, the genredetection process doesn't quit and forces iTunes to automatically relaunch and spawns a second genredetection process. Here is where the problem starts. Now, whenever you try and quit iTunes normally, either via command key or file menu, the genredetection process continue to force iTunes to relaunch and continues to respawn new processes of itself. At this point, iTunes becomes practically un-quitable. You now have to go into the Activity Monitor application and force quit all the "genredetection" processes that have spawned and only then can you actually quit iTunes. I consider this a serious bug. Seeing as how we all know SRS's support is non-existent, we'll see if this ever gets fixed." (Version 2.0.2.255)

HAUNTEDTAPEDECK I'm not sure what has caused it, but i can no longer bring the iWow window up, trying to do so causes iTunes to lock. This then triggers the documented "genredetection" bug, and additionally each time creates a blank "untitled playlist" in iTunes. Pretty darned annoying, overall. (Version 2.0.2.255)

0MEDON I got this in the recent holiday bundle and just got around to installing it now. It works great and seems to be very stable. The massive window can be shrunk down to a reasonable size showing just the presets w/o the visualizer and can be closed completely while still working. Used with my macbook speakers it gives a significant and welcome volume boost as well as improving the tone of my podcasts. I just wish it would work with quicktime outside of itunes and possibly even dvdplayer as it would be oh so handy for my movie collection, most of which isn't in mp4 format. But judging from the problems/unresponsiveness of the developer expressed by some here. I doubt that will ever be. Solid product though, even if there are support issues for some. M_CANTAR I downloaded the demo off of the Apple website. While I used it, it was really good. It definitely did what it was supposed to. But if you haven't downloaded it already, don't do it After the trial expired, I uninstalled and deleted the file and all the related files. Now I can't connect to the iTunes store. Even though the files are gone, iWOW still comes up and asks me if I want to purchase the software. It won't let iTunes access the internet at all. I took my computer to apple's Genius Bar today and he looked through my computer and couldn't find anything even remotely related to SRS, iWOW, or Rogue Amoeba. We reinstalled Leopard, and that fixed it at first, but then I restarted my computer to see if it still worked and it didn't. There's nothing on the Apple support site and I've been looking around all over the internet and I haven't found anything on how to fix this. I'm going to have to backup all of my files and wipe my hard drive clean. There's about 6 hours worth of programs that I'm going to have to reinstall, not to mention the time it's going to take to transfer and delete my files and uninstall all of my programs. Long story short, DON'T INSTALL iWOW!!! (Version 2.0.2.255)

FINGERPRINZ In my view, iWow is a great product. I purchased a license already two years ago and it worked fine until the upgrade to 2.0 came. I purchased the upgrade in early Dec. 07 - and have still not received the license number. I even purchased the full version again - because I really want to use the tool - but also for that one I have not received the license code yet (two weeks since purchase). They took my money, but don't give you the product. Contacted them seven times by email so far (including the CEO). Yet, no answer. These guys just don't care. (Version 2.0.2.255)

But after getting the full file in the bundle promo, and STILL having the same problem, I have to call shenanigans! This program will NOT LET ITUNES QUIT! LARRY R Over the past several months I have purchased 2 copies of iWOW as part of the Promo deals. Two weeks ago I bought a new laptop and tried to install one of the plugin's I installed on my existing laptop on my new laptop. The authorization process said that the plugin was already installed on another machine and would not let me install it on my new machine. I emailed the company about the issue (no way to move licensed software to a new platform) and the email bounced (no long a viable address). I called, no one answered, I left a message, no one called back. Not sure what kind of customer support they have, but it does not work. I would caution anyone who is considering buying this plugin to make sure that it can be reinstalled or moved to a different platform before you buy it. Otherwise, at some point in the future your copy will not be any good and the only alternative will be to buy a new copy. Something I will not do. (Version 2.0.2.255)

MARINEBLUE Received v2.0 as part of the latest MUPromo bundle, a very welcome addition. I'm on the high seas now, and it makes a big difference to the sound from my set-up (TiPB 667 & Sony SRS-Z500 active speakers) however, iTunes (v7.5) has gone CPU crazy since I installed it (running between 50 & 80%, even when idle), so the "hi-fi" is somewhat muddied by the hair-dryer effect of this old laptop. Also agree with several other posters that the app window is too large, and would be nice to have it launch by default in the background, when I launch iTunes. (Version 2.0.2.255)

MWB SRS WOW 2.0 runs stabily on my iMac and iTunes 7.4.2. It certainly improves the sound of the music I play - various genres, etc. I would like to echo some of the concerns and suggestions to the developers: 1) the fact that your custom profiles don't seem to interact with the genres in iTunes seems to defeat the purpose of the custom profiles and "auto preset selection" 2) the help files and FAQ/support options available at the website are very weak 3) the general design of the interface could use some work 4) the upgrade price seems a bit steep for all of us who purchased it just a few months ago. The sound enhancement is very good, but most of the other aspects of this product seem to be average at best. It would be much enhanced by investing in the overall interface design and support . EASER The primary issue here is not whether version 2.0 is a worthy upgrade. Some may find it to be so, and that may well be worth debating. As far as SRSlabs go, they did respond within the day to my query and did say that they are working on a solution. Let's hope they do come up with a workable one soon which we either go back to v1.1 or a special price ($3 maybe?) to upgrade to v2.0 for the inconveniences that subscribers had to go through. OSS 3D does have a lot more settings, which may not appeal to you, since SRS iWOW settings were much simpler. One big advantage of OSS 3D is that you can choose to have it enhance the sound from ALL of your running apps (or those you choose). (Version 2.0)

MRCHEAPS I'm glad that you say you're responding to emails, but as of 2:20 pm Friday (Dallas), all I've gotten is an auto-reply saying that someone will be in touch sometime. No possible solutions, no links, no nothing. The link on the Macupdate page did NOT work, giving only a "nothing to install" message. Putting the old plug-in back manually got me a message that I had exceeded my number of registrations. I'll further note that when I clicked to receive an update today, it claimed to be downloading an update to 1.1.8...NOT version 2.0. I've lost hours of time today on this, and am not a happy camper. (Version 2.0)

YESUAINI99 same here with the other person. I've contacted SRS via the contact page with only the automated response and nothing else. No one has contacted me or followed up with anything. Whatever you have posted is not true in my case. I do hope you correct this mistake and improve on your customer care. (Version 2.0)
| Sep 28 2007 |
YESUAINI99 Your 1.1.10.255 version does not work. It still shows there is nothing to install. I've contacted SRS twice and nothing came back. There's no other contact email address in your entire website. It's like you guys intentionally don't want anyone to trouble you with any questions. And dido to another poser, what happened is illegal for SRS to wipe out our paid version without remedy. I've lost hours on this as well. Besides, what happened to the 1.2, 1.3, 1.4? Just skipped directly to 2.0 without any significant improvement? What gives? (Version 2.0)

SRS POSTER We are very close to having a fix to resolve this issue, through working with users, such as yourself. We are conducting some further end user testing to confirm. I will reply to the forum when we post the fix and iWOW 1 can be "restored" for those seeing this bug (could be over the weekend). (Version 2.0)

SRS POSTER All, we have posted an updated version for users wishing to revert from the iWOW 2 trial to iWOW 1 at our site. This should correct the current bug sited on this forum: http://www.srslabs.com/srsproduct/iwow1.1.asp (Version 2.0) (Version 2.0)

EASER I'm genuinely sorry you guys got screwed over by this. I'm not sure why it didn't happen to me. As I noted, I kept the com.srs.iwow.plist file in my preferences folder, and apparently it accepted that. It hasn't asked me to re-register the old version or anything. At the least, before you try the trial, it sounds like you might want to make a copy of the plist file for version 1 and keep it safe. But I absolutely agree. This company sucks for what they did. And especially if you cannot re-register the old version, it sounds illegal to me. You might want to write them and draw their attention to that while you contact the FTC. (Version 2.0)

MRCHEAPS Thanks for the tip about retrieving the preference file (mine had been moved to the trash, but hadn't been emptied yet). I was able - FINALLY - to get the old version of iWow working and registered again, due exclusively to the help here online and NO thanks to SRS Labs. (Version 2.0)

8OO8 Well, thanks to Easer's post, below, I was able to reinstall v1.10, BUT, now when I enter my serial number, I get "maximum number of activations exceeded". And I activated it only ONCE at the time I first installed it! So I can't even reregister my paid for copy of version 1 again. And it's pointless to contact SRS support since, as we all now know, they just don't reply. Yes, SRS support STINKS!.....like an outhouse on a hot day! So, it's back to square one......sigh...... MRCHEAPS I've got the same situation; I managed to find a clean copy of the older plug-in, restored it to the proper folder, but can not use my PAID registration number to reactivate because it's allegedly exceeded the maximum number of registrations (which, apparently, is "1"). Not a peep from SRS Labs. And the link on this page to the "re-installation" version doesn't work...you just get the "nothing to install" message. I'm starting to hear the words "RIP OFF" in simulated 3D holophonic surround sound... (Version 2.0)
| Sep 28 2007 |
MRCHEAPS I was a reasonably happy registered user of version 1. It "auto-updated" to version 2 and informed me that I'd have to cough up $12. Huh? I nuked the new version but have been unable to restore the old version because SRS Labs has apparently made it unavailable (their installer calls the program from their site). So SRS Labs basically wiped out the version I'd paid for since I didn't immediately jump on their somewhat questionable upgrade. LOTS of people are steamed about this, and it's impossible to think SRS Labs didn't know this would happen (nor have they corrected it). Apart from that, iWow 1 is marginally better than the iTunes equalizer and other settings, but can't keep your simple settings in memory. Sloppy workmanship and poor customer support. Bah. EASER So now they link us to a "reinstaller?" Nice try. It did nothing for me. I got the infamous "There's nothing to install message." I manually removed the "iwow intall" from the Library/Receipts folder as well as the iWow folder from Applications and the iWow folder from "users/Library/Application Support." I then reinstalled the older version using their download. It now works again. But this is very convoluted. (Version 2.0)

YESUAINI99 It's been 2 days since the 2.0 upgrade install made it impossible to revert back to 1.1.10. and still no response from SRS Labs. I'd recommend next time MU offer any bundle, partner with someone who offers real customer service. The way to save everyone is if someone still has 1.1.10 can offer to upload their .app file and the file in the HAL folder. We each have our own serial numbers to make it legal. Anyone agree? VERYCARLA Dude, I don't know what your problem is or if you've got really lousy ears, but this plugin has literally transformed my listening experience. I listened to a Decemberists song the other day and felt confused. I knew the song inside and out but it sounded different. Why? iWow was bringing out details in the soundscape I'd NEVER noticed before. The music is more vibrant, more vital and more REAL than it ever was before. (Version 2.0)

8OO8 The version 1 installation, for those who want to reinstall their v1 iWOW (http://www.srslabs.com/srsproduct/iwow1.1.asp) still does NOT work. After downloading it and attempting to install it, a message appears on one's desktop stating, after clicking on the "install" tab, "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install". It's, no doubt, a malfunction, but SRS Labs has yet to correct it. (Version 2.0)

There is nothing to install". I hope the developer will fix this soon. (Version 2.0)

ELMARCO Reading new comments saying that V1 still rules, I want to make things clear : I'm pretty sure that presets and "automatic" are interesting features. But he ugly part is customers having to pay for an update immediatly ! I mean when they just bought the soft 1 month ago... it's not professional, and certainly will not make people wanting to buy sharewares ! Not a responsible attitude at all. (Version 2.0)

MAC5 Like previous reviewers I do not see this as a major upgrade, and certainly not one worth $12.00. Why do developers expect owners of previous versions of their software to fork out more dollars for nothing more than a minor upgrade. Th public at large are not so easily duped, and especially true of those of us who are comfortable with computers, and savvy with most types of software available. (Version 2.0)

IGAUCHO I just bought the new version today and love it. The auto-presets feature really makes this version stand out. No more having to tweak settings for different types of music. What makes this feature even better is that it adjusts for music AND video. Even the sliders have been simplified. Totally worth the $11.99 to upgrade. (Version 2.0)

MARKYMIX Seems to be a paid-upgrade, if u have the previous version it's debatable if it's worth paying $12 for the ability to make presets. If you run the uninstaller this version puts into your Applications folder it will offer you the chance to back-grade again. Don't get me wrong, it's a great little app - just not a worthy upgrade. 8OO8 It seems that total lack of customer support (no response to emailed queries) is "business as usual" with SRS Labs. It's completely irresponsible. Here is the contact info for SRS Labs: Maybe they need to be inundated with phone calls and letters from irate customers who have gotten no replies to emailed issues (and there appear to be quite a few). YESUAINI99 Do not upgrade if you don't plan to pay the $12. If you bought the 1.1.9 version with Macupdate Bundle a few months ago, this one is a full version upgrade which will cost you $12. But if you upgrade and decide it's not worth the price, you CANNOT revert back to your old 1.1.10 or 1.1.9. It will say "There is nothing to install". Don't know what's causing this, maybe iTunes 7.2.4? Who knows? No response from SRS as usual. The money spent with MU Bundle is down the drain. (Version 2.0)

8OO8 Still the best iTunes audio enhancer out there. A few nice additional features for version 2. If you already have a serial number for version 1, you'll need to purchase an upgrade for version 2....its $12. http://www.srs-store.com/store-plugins/mall/iWOW-plugin.asp Looks like the purchase price for first time purchasers has been upped to $30, but for a "limited time", the price is still $20. HUBBERBUBMAN I say WOW! It´s boosting my soundsticks to another level of Quality. For the CPU- eating issue: minimize the SRS window (also the level indicator) and close it completely - it´s still running altough not visible. VERYCARLA I've noticed this as well. I suppose it's just the amount of CPU it needs to do its thang. I can't complain too much. The only time I notice anything is when I try to do a file copy in the system. iTunes gets...sluggish. Of course, copying files usually brings the system to its knees anyway, so it's not terribly surprising. (Version 2.0)

MOGWAI1983 I was slightly disappointed by the sound quality coming from my Harman Kardon Soundstick II's initially and was constantly tweaking the equaliser to try and get a decent sound from them. This app has been absolutely wonderful though does require a little adjustment for certain tracks. Has made my speakers sound unbelievably brilliant. One downside though is that when idle it uses a ridiculous amount of CPU power. I have a dual 1.8GHz G4 and when iTunes is completely idle it is eating around 40% cpu across both processors.
