JONRED  SynergyKM, where have you been all my life? I just spent an hour or two playing around with the command line synergy interface trying to get everything working with no success. I stumbled upon this program and was up and running in literally 5 minutes! Awesome!

My server is an XP machine. Clients are a Windows 7 RC computer and a Mac. Only thing I had to do to get it to work was use the servers IP address instead of its name. I had already set up the configuration of the screens on my server so everything was ready to go when I installed SynergyKM on the Mac. I now have a wall of monitors at my command. Five stars.

THORPRIME  This is a must have if you use synergy. It saves a lot of time vs manually configuring files and having the status in the menu bar is a huge plus.

TRUFFULS  No matter what I did I could not get synergy to work on my new Mac Pro OS X 10.5.2. I tried every configuration I could find on the web, nothing worked. I'm comfortable working in a UNIX environment so that wasn't an issue. In every attempt I always got "Configuration not found".

I found a blog entry about SynergyKM, found the software and installed it.

Within a minute of install I was happily working with my XP machine using my Mac keyboard/mouse.

Works great!

THELONIOUSMONK045  Overall, a nice piece of software for multiple platform usage, though beware that SynergyKM doesn't always play nice with other pieces of software.

On my old iBook G4, for example, using SynergyKM caused repeated kernel panics, especially on reboots. I found the issue to be between SynergyKM and iScroll2 (a two finger touch mod for older Powerbooks/iBooks). After repeated attempts to install and uninstall one, both, and one or the other, it became clear the issue only existed when they both were on the machine.

Since I had to choose, I chose iScroll2, and now utilize an alternative to Synergy called teleport (for Macs only). Been kernel panic free and loving it, though I do miss my cross platform playing with a single mouse and keyboard.

I ran into no such issues on my newer MacBook Pro (2.4GHz 15"), granted I have no need for iScroll2 on that machine and so no conflict.

My advice: If it works without conflict, it's great. If not, it's a pain in the arse (Tip: Be ready to Safe Boot OS X).

GHETTOPIA  This program simply doesn't work. I've ran Synergy without a GUI successfully, as well as the wonderful QuickSynergy. But no combination of IP addresses or computer names can make this work.

KWOJNIAK  Tested this out with my MacBook being the server. Connected first from my G3 running 10.3.9, and that worked fine. Then I tested on 10.2.8, and it gave an AppleScript error during the install. I couldn't get System Preferences to see the prefpane, but was able to copy my preferences from my 10.3.9 partition and run the daemon manually, which did work. Up to this point I had been using my own AppleScript to start synergys/c on startup, but still had to set it up manually. SynergyKM really simplifies it (although it took me a while to figure it out - GUI is confusing).

BIKEHAM  Last time I used synergy 1.3, it could not be run as a Server on OS X. Who is going to run a PC all the time so that they can use a Mac occasionally? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

BIKEHAM  I'll correct myself. It works fine as a server on OS X, but remember to open port 24800 on your firewall.

ORION MK. V  Cool idea and decent GUI. Too bad there's already a Synergy app for the mac (unrelated to KM switching), so the naming's a bit confusing.
