JON555 My biggest beef with this app is, a) it's not updated often enough and, b) the UI and app icon are a bit dated. That said, this is a fantastic burning app that works well and is feature-rich. A great alternative to paying Roxio for Toast. Keep up the awesome work devs! (Version 2.3u)

HANDINI Burn was working great until the other day. I was converting videos and all of a sudden it no longer can convert the videos and reports an unknown error. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? When I drag previously converted videos from burn into Toast 6 I get a Mac OS Error -50 but none of the forums online explain video conversion as the cause for this error and I am not sure if it's related. ROBK Have you ever been able to Burn these Ridata discs with another Burning Program? Perhaps it is not the Burn program but the inability of your hardware to burn Ridata discs. I had a similar problem with Verbatim CD's. It would hang at the closing session stage. It made no difference what the burning program I used. I had to switch to a different Brand CD. Now I can burn without any problems. (Version 2.3u)
| May 22 2009 |
JOSHMUNKEY Coincidentally, I verified that the batch of DVD+R DL's from RiDATA were without error or issue with the inner workings of OSX just tonight by using Apple's Disk Utility application. It handled the burn fine and reported back zero errors. The content was the exact same as what I wanted Burn 2.3u to handle. Very odd. Burn handles my other standard DVD's just fine, so I guess that I'll just go to the Disk Utility in the future if I want to burn a DL. Too bad it cost me 2 DVD+R DL's to find out the proper course of action... (Version 2.3u)

JOSHMUNKEY Encountered major error when burning RiDATA DVD+R DL. Application hung indefinitely in "closing session" phase before verification could begin. Allowed copious amounts of time to see if app would fix itself. It didn't. Quit yielded no results; force quit disappeared UI but app hung in dock. DVD would not mount on desktop nor eject by any means. Force rebooted, but DVD still in burn mode would not allow the computer to reboot. Cut power, rebooted. DVD would not mount nor eject. Rebooted again, this time holding eject button at chime. Worked. Following link has screen cap of error report: http://tinyurl.com/qu4ssc (Version 2.2u)

ROBOTANK I'm having some trouble with this latest version. Burned DVD video discs won't play on my PS3 (that's currently the only stand-alone player I have, but I'm assuming the issue isn't exclusive to the PS3). Also, the menus that Brun creates when authoring discs support chapter selection, but there doesn't seem to be a way to get it to create chapters. It also doesn't carry over the chapters from files it converts. Am I missing something here? I'd appreciate any advice or info anyone could offer on these topics. (Version 2.2u)

MECHAMANIA Did you try DVD Player on your Mac to see if it's the PS3? (Version 2.2u)
| Apr 6 2009 |
ROBOTANK I tried two different discs on the PS3 and my Mac, both created from the same MP4 file converted by Burn. One of them worked in the Mac and not the PS3, and the other didn't work in either one. For both of these discs I had used one of Burn's DVD Themes. Finally, I used Burn to convert the same file and burn a disc without a theme, and it worked properly in both the Mac and the PS3. The obvious conclusion is that Burn's DVD Themes create incompatibility with some devices. I have no idea one of the themed discs worked on the Mac and the other didn't, but there's definitely a problem with this feature, which is unfortunate, because it would be quite useful if it worked properly. Hopefully, this will be addressed in a future update. I'd love to have an alternative to Toast to create menus on DVDs. (Version 2.2u)

ROBOTANK First of all you need a DVD ripper. RipIt or Mac The Ripper are the primary choices on the Mac. RipIt offers fewer options (it only does full-disc copies at this point) but is more easily accessible as shareware than the latest version of MTR 3, which has been in private beta for a couple of years (MTR 2.6.6 is freely available but badly out of date). After you've ripped the disk, you need to then use a remastering program like DVD2oneX or DVDRemaster. These will allow you to extract the movie portion only from a full disc copy, select audio tracks and subtitles, compress the movie if you want to fit it on a single layer DVD-R, and finally burn it. Toast Titanium will also compress and burn ripped DVDs, but it has a couple disadvantages: it can't extract the movie only, and it sometimes doesn't work with RipIt's output. That said, Toast does a ton of other things, but if you're looking for simple DVD remastering I'd suggest DVD2oneX. The reason that Burn isn't comparable to these other programs is that it lacks the ability to compress the DVD copy. As to why it won't let you select dual-layer discs I don't know, but in my experience a DVD that hasn't had its copy protection fully removed (RipIt occasionally leaves some behind; I don't know about the program you mentioned, Easy DVD Copy) will cause problems with some burning apps. However, I've never had that issue with DVD2oneX, which is why I recommend it. (Version 1.721u)
| Feb 26 2009 |
BRUCE_Y I bought DVDRemaster to do similar function - make a copy of my DVD source disk. I've had no problems with it, even when copying the dual layer source disks - though most of the time, I am copying to a single layer DVD target destination disk. From the MacUpdate description : "DVDRemaster Pro is an application which recompresses large DVDs so they can be burned on a standard DVD" What size does your source disk report that you get a 'too large' error message? What size is your target destination disk as reported by the application? As previous reply (Robo) states, there are several apps available. Note the three he initially recommends do just the 'copy data' part, you would still need an app to do the compression and then the writing to disk (such as with this Burn2). So really, three steps all together - read (rip), compress (downsize), write. DVDRemaster, DVD2One, Fast DVD Copy, (and possibly one or two others) do all three steps. (Version 2.0u)

SLEEK I am not sure why you cannot burn DL DVD's, To burn DL DVD you need DVD burner that supports burning of DL DVD's. As others replied you need to rip DVD with Mactheripper which is free or Toast titanium 6.1 or above to burn. Disk utility (which comes with your ma can also burn ripped dvd after making img off the ripped DVD data). (Version 2.0u)

ORDER2 Other than LiquidCD or Toast prior to version 6, Burn is capable of burning Double Layer (+DL) DVDs which are playable even in older standalone DVD players. The not too user friendly interface needs some reworking, though. Burning video DVDs should appear as one of the main menu choices/buttons instead of being hidden deep inside the "Data" menu. Or even better, it should replace the actual "Video" menu, whose muxing features etc. should be integrated as a submenu to the DVD burning menu. And PLEASE move the "create a fully compatible DVD-video disk" checkbox from the app preferences to the apps forefront window. (Why isn't this set as default anyway?) Also, is it really nescessary to create an image/iso file before burning to disk? Why not make this an optional feature, if possible? (Version 1.72u)

N_DUB When trying to burn ordinary audio cd's, there are a few messages that appear, resulting in the ultimate failure of the procedure; thus one whole cd is wasted, as well as time: Insufficient memory on device, delete tracks to make space. This appears despite the fact the disc is capable of holding no less than 702mb (easily enough to fit one album of music!). Something about a medium write error. and another which unfortunately I am unable to accurately recall, however went along the lines of: ...device not responding correctly. This message appears immediately upon initiating the burning procedure, somewhat like the first, whereas the second message appears at the end of the burning procedure after an unusually long period of "finishing burn". Also, is there a way of knowing the size of what you intend to write to the disc, before you actually do? If someone could help me out that would be greatly appreciated. (Version 1.71u)

PIZZACAKE I have an EyeTV v2.4 for DTT Digital Terrestrial Television. EyeTV records the DVB stream unaltered, so youÂ’re getting full quality DTT content as encoded by the broadcaster. I wanted to burn this mpeg2 content straight onto dvd without unnecessarily re-encoding the mpeg2 files and losing quality and time. So here is how I burn EyeTV files into DVD format losslessly using Burn. 1. Export Recording as MPEG Program Stream 2. In Burn preferences under video select Force remuxing MPEG2 external streams 3. Select Video tab of Burn making sure DVD is selected as type and change untitled to what you want the DVD to be called 4. Add EyeTV mpeg file/s. At this point Burn will ask to save the remuxed mpeg2 file somewhere, make sure you give it a different name to the original. 5. The order of the files determine the order they'll play on your DVD. Each file will get a chapter point however Burn does not create any menus. 6. Burn or save as disc image if you want to test the DVD in DVD player first. Hope this helps, thanks to the authors of Burn. (Version 1.71u)
