MADNIL Since the version 2.6.x I had trouble with TomTom Home: The program always crashed when I tried to update my 920. I found that this was caused by a preference entry: The backup directory was on a network drive (volume). As soon as I changed it to the local harddisk it worked again. Hope this helps other people with the same problem. (Version 2.6.3.313)

MADNIL Sorry, I mixed it up: I meant the "downloads" directory. TomTom Home looks into this directory, as soon as the update function is launched. (Version 2.6.3.313)

CINDERPATH This fixed my problem! Thanks for taking the time to post, this was frustrating as hell! Too bad TomTom could not clarify this. (Version 2.6.3.313)

I have been unable to use this software for about 6 months until I read your comment. My TOMTOM Files were on a different hard disk partition, and it would crash without fail everytime it read from the device. Following your advice, I set the TOMTOM Files back to the boot partition, and now it's working perfectly again. Thanks! (Version 2.6.4.356)

SPANEL The newest version of HOME for TomTom One is useless. It will render updates impossible and continually send you an error message when you try to use it with your GPS. TomTom technical support is equally useless, and clueless. They have no idea how to fix the problem and will only tell you to reinstall the application. I asked for an older version and they sent me a link to a Window .exe file. As I said, useless and clueless. So, like many others I'm stuck with a unit that has outdated maps with no solution. Well, there is one: Dump TomTom and get a Garmin. TomTom is hemorrhaging customers and it's easy to see why. (Version 2.6.2.264)

KARLTREK I was thinking about buying the new TomTom Rider for my motorcycle. But according to their website it looks like you can't make you own pre-planned routes with the Mac version of TomTom Home software. This is a Windows only feature. This is the number one feature I want for my GPS. I ended up buying the Garmin Zumo. There is excellent route creation software for the Mac with Garmin's "RoadTrip" software. (Version 2.5.2.58)

PROFWELLBACK TomTom: my trouble started with a usa map download, paid for, it would not work. TomTom support said it was the wrong type and I bought another version, with refund for the first. Then TomTomHome refused to recognise my device and despite lengthy help from support over more than 2 months, it will not "update" my account which still has my map waiting for me. The promised device /account update today just froze the screen after a lengthy download. The device software upgrade has lost my compass on screen although the main functions of the Go 720 still work OK. Apparently if I buy a second TomTom, I will have to use a different account with a different email address, (!). Is this just because I use Mac? (Version 2.4.0.68)

AJPUM65 I recently purchased a Rider 2. I was informed that it would work just fine with my MacBook Pro. The software CD that came with the unit installed on my book but didn't seem to work well. I un-installed this and downloaded the version from TomTom's website. That version is 2.3.1.40 and I see it's quite different! I don't see any options for programming a route on my lap top and transforming to the GPS. After reading several other reviews here, I see that it appears TomTom software isn't very Mac friendly? I am planning on contacting TomTom tomorrow morning to learn more about my options and limitations. I want to ensure I'm not doing something wrong. Glad to read your experiences. Does anyone have a Rider 2 for two wheels??

APPLEHC Works with my TomTom GO 930 Traffic without problems. Could someone explain to me if there are any big features missing compared to the XP version? I would rather like to stay on my Intel OSX instead of changing to Intel WXP for every TomTom Update. (Version 2.3.0.32)

CLUNKCLUNK It's ugly, it's not nearly as feature rich as the Windows version, but at least it's much more functional than previous versions. I can do a successful backup, install and delete files from my ONE. It's still clunky, the interface feels like it was done by a junior college dropout, but at least it works somewhat. MEKKON Yay! new version, 2.2.1.26! Boo Hiss - it doesn't work any better. Still no support for operating my Tomtom One LE via Tomtom Home. Now, rather than explaining that it doesn't work, it just gives the spinning beachball of death, requiring a force quit. Still no mapshare updates either... And did anyone else notice that the program is so poorly designed that "HELP" appears TWICE in the menu-bar? Top notch developing this is! (Version 2.2.1.26)

PERPLEXITY The best GPS finally has working stable Mac software. Don't like the app's interface (must be made by a pc nerd), but everything is there. Unlike the GPS itself, which has a superb interface. Shapeshifter users, be warned, you need to exclude the TomTom HOME app or it will not launch. (Version 2.2.0.16)

MEKKON Well, it's better than the old version, which was well outdated even last year. This Version, 2.2.0.16, works somewhat, however some things don't work at all. Still no computer control of my TomTom ONE LE, just an error that says "this feature is not supported by your device or operating system..." This means that it is not possible for me to password protect the gps. (If they can't figure out how to make the computer-gps control work out, they should make it possible to password protect the gps from within.) Some of the new Home program works, but more often than not, the updater fails. Also on the main home page, it tells me that my MapShare updates are out of date (which they are), however it won't let me update the MapShare corrections. It directs me to the update page, which after a minute says that everything is up to date. (To date, I've never gotten any mapshare correction updates!) I'm still happy with the TomTom ONE as a standalone device, but their support for OSX users is inexcusable. (Version 2.2.0.16)

KIWILEGAL I have recently complained about the lack of a V2 software for the Mac to use with my TomTom Go 720. I was therefore pleased to see this appear. While others have encountered problems, I have to report that the Mac version appears now to be quasi on par with the Windows version at least for a TomTom Go 720. I have been using the Windows version until now under VMware, which worked well enough. On my quick revire, the Mac version now does all that the Windows one including (a) working with the latest maps, (2) working for Mapshare and (3) ability to operate my TomTom Go 720 from the computer. The last functionality does not apparently work for another poster here. Perhaps he has a different TomTom machine to me. I should say that using this function in the Mac version seems possibly a little buggier than the Windows version. I got error messages before getting it to work and I have the impression that clicking on things sometimes does not react properly. That said, all up, a good upgrade for me. I have run a backup and hope not to have to fire up VMWare to update my TomTom in the future (but keeping my Windows backup, just in case) (Version 2.2.0.16)

NICK DRING After 5mins playing with it the positives are that it seems quite snappy and most things are as the pc version. I can't say I like much the way it suggests adding music. It justs opens the music folder on the tomtom and tells you to drag and drop. The one thing though that is still missing that pc users have had for along time is the ability to operate your tom tom from the computer. Clicking on the 'operate my tomtom' gives up the message 'this function is not yet supprted on your tomtom device or os' Get your finger out. I'd write to tech support but the form on the website doesn't work and hasn't for months. NICE ONE. Fill yer boots! (Version 2.2.0.16)

NICK DRING I've had a 910 for about two years. Apart from the terrible terrible 'the customer is always wrong' tech support and the tomtom sending me in the wrong direction and then telling me half an hour later to do a uturn and the month wait to get my 910 back after the motherboard failed and the three screen mounts that I've gone through... its great! I'm downloading v2 tom tom home now and hoping it gives me somewhere close to the functionality windoze users have had since day one. A week ago I bought the 2008 maps only to find that v2 is needed to install them. Tomtom treats mac users like the shit on their shoes. Bear this in mind before you by a Tomtom. FEDWARD Apparently TomTom's support has turned a new leaf. Found all my issues tenaciously dealt with & resolved by all Customer Service Reps I've dealt with. Though the Home application is still a work-in-progress, at least it continues to be improved. Com'on! Give 'em a break. New technology tends to take time to work out the kinks. From what I can tell they are steadily dealing with the issues and have not turned their backs on the Mac community as so many PC-Windozer geeks. (Version 2.2.2.28)

JOBBY Still 1.6? You need version 2.0 or higher to install the latest maps, or to use the MapShare functionality. So where's the Mac port of the current version? I bet it *still* doesn't even let you control the TomTom from the computer, which is the only way to set a password on the thing. Roll on the GPS-enabled iPhone... (Version 1.6.020)

JOSHEWAH I just got a v3 TomTom ONE, and this software is a year old but the only available software. At first I got a white screen when plugging it in, so I reset the unit with the button on the bottom. Now the unit mounts in finder and the HOME software can see the unit, but it detects it as the wrong model! The USB ID even says TomTom ONE, but the software keeps saying GO and telling me to install an update for the GO (which would probably break it). At least I can manually go in and add voices etc. but not being able to update to the latest software is a major drawback. I am going to have to install windows on VMWare to sync this thing. DWETTE I've been using a TomTom Go Plus for 2.5 years and every time I go on a road trip I pull my hair out with frustration. The software is crappy, the user interface is flakey, and the maps are terrible. I've upgraded maps twice, and the TomTom still does crazy things like take me miles in the wrong direction only to tell me to do a U turn and go all the way back to continue in the reverse direction from where I started. Seriously, this has happened numerous times. I'm fed up and planning to get a Garmin Nuvi for my next trip. Oh, and TomTom customer service is for all intents and purposes non-existent. They're only responsive when it it comes time to take your money for new maps. This is one of the worst companies and products I've dealt with. Stay clear. (Version 2.0)

DANIEL SMITH I have a tomtom one. I am going to Italy tomorrow so am trying to download and install the western Europe maps for it. I just spent £70 on the software via the much talked about tomtom home software. I have also spent a further £30 on a new SD card to fit the new maps on to. I go to download and install and it gets to 17% and reads the error : "an error occurred downloading this file" and stops the download. I am tearing my hair out here. If anyone has the answer please let me know. I'm on my 5th attempt and can't find anything else about in on the net. (Version 2.0)

MACUPDATE ADMIN I have just uploaded the file to our server, maybe you will have better luck downloading it directly from us rather than the developer's server, just use the same 'Download Now' link on the MacUpdate product page for TomTom Home. Good luck to you in your travels. By the way, the downloaded .dmg will mount an image that states it is 1.5 but a GetInfo command issued against the file states that it is 2.0. Go figure. JULESINFRANCE I recently purchased a TomTomONE unit and dowloaded HOME v1.5.106 to my OSX.4.10 MacMini. I connected the unit directly to a USB port on the 'Mini. I read the User Guide and the Support web-site. What a pity that they agree on nothing and so little of what is available in User Guide/Support Pages is implemented by v1.5.106 [read the sections on Passwords and Recharging via USB on all sources to see how contradictory the information is]. Of course this may only be a ONE (new version) issue? Finally when I use the HOME software to disconnect the unit Finder complains (improper disconnection) and when I use the Finder then HOME locks up my system. This sort of failure is so elemental I would not even give the software one star. TomTom has added essential features (backup, PLUS and gpsautofix weekly updates) which make it essential to use HOME, which in fact has little real functionality beyond being a shop for their PLUS services. As they've forced users to operate a defective application I would go so far as to recommend Mac users avoid the newer TomTom units until either TomTom sort this out, or Mark/Space does us all a favour and comes up with a decent alternative. GARYDS TomTom 1.5 is an improvement over the first version, and installed fine when I stopped trying to use the original software to update to the newer version and just downloaded it straight from this site. I would still like to see the ability to control the device using the software, but I am glad that it is MAC compatible. I was able to add and delete music by going straight to the MP3 folder on the hard drive device of my 910, bypassing the software. Keep the updates coming, TomTom! (Version 2.0)

ANTONY WILLMAN I had the same problem with the Home software not recognising my 910. I found the answer on an Expansys site. Apparently it needs to be a non-powered USB 1.1 hub. Sure enough, plugged it into my keyboard & it worked. Not ideal when I want to hide leads etc but hopefully it will get solved. (Version 2.0)

EDUO Has anyone noticed that while the MacUpdate page says it's version 2.0. When you download it you actually get version 1.5? (1.5.106 to be exact). It's not MacUpdate's fault, though. TomTom's page does the same thing. (Version 2.0)

GAVIN CUTSHALL I love my TomTom One. However, the Mac software is a stark contrast to the hardware. The hardware is intuitive; software is a confusing, crashy mess. It barely works, has a very poor interface, and it is completely unintuitive. (Version 2.0)

NICK DRING I have a tomtom go 910. Top of the range, 700 here in Italy. While the actual hardware works well. The software, tomtom home is not so good. It feels more like beta software on the mac. You can't plan journeys with the Mac version. If your music of photos are on an external drive, trying to read them from tomtom home will cause the application to crash. The only thing positive is that tomtom say these features will be available in a future release. When who knows. (Version 1.2.018)
