GRAZU  I wanted to let you know how glad I am using 1Password 3!

I am a recent Mac switcher, and used RoboForm on Windows XP.

I choosed 1Password because it allowed me to import my datas from RoboForm as simple as 2 clicks...

Then I bought 1Password 3 because Agile currently offers 1Password for

iPhone...

So many thanks again, I am delighted!

SOLO68  1Password Sets The Standard!

I've been using 1Password since February 2009. It works great in all of my browsers, including Camino. I love the new features in version 3. The developer's support is outstanding. I read somewhere the sales are close to 1 million apps sold. And their generosity has not slowed down either. Just recently I received an email offering a free copy of 1Password Pro touch and when I purchased a family license for 1Password version 2 back in February it came with a version 3 license. Thanks guys!

I highly recommend this app. At least download it, install it and give the free trial a spin. Push it to the limits.

MALVIM  This is one of the greatest apps I have installed on my mac.

I've been using 1Password since version 2, when it was already very good. Now, in version 3, they really have bested themselves.

The new interface is slick, really feels like an OSX app. Searching through your stuff, the addition of software licenses and especially the new web interface (which really feels a lot like the native app, read-only) are just awesome.

I bought v2, bought v3, and if these guys keep this pace, they'll have my money forever! ;)

Cheers,

Marcelo.

THUS.SPAKE.Z  1PW does work with Camino 2; I can confirm it. You could have confirmed it yourself.

An upgrade from v2 to v3 is currently $19.95; just go to their website (again, you could have easily found that out for yourself). Might soon go back to the original upgrade price of $29.95 so if ya wanna upgrade don't dally.

GORDON142  I'm not a fan of all the changes in this new version. the new view isn't really that useful, and the page previews make the database much larger with little change in usability. That about the worst thing I can say about this program. All the others changes and new features are useful and welcome. Version 3 is the best release yet of one the useful applications I have on my Mac. Indeed, I really can't see a way to remain secure on the web without it.

ALKOFOX  I could not imagine using the internet with my 171 stored logins and not having 1Password to remember all the passwords and user names.

Credit card info, identity's, secure notes, just about everything that needs to be protected goes into 1Password. And the auto fill feature is the absolute feature for me, no more tying in passwords to long to remember. I have almost no passwords that are exactly the same now, thanks to the random password generator that generates passwords 1 to 50 characters long. Accessing the 1Password data works from almost any browser, and for those that don't, there is a new 1PasswordAnywhere feature for getting at your data from any virtually machine. And it all "just works" like mac applications should work. And no wonder, with the super team behind 1Password. If you haven't looked at their About Us page, do take a look at the Agile Team. Thanks Agile! Your application is the gold standard other applications should be built by.

STILL_SPARKLING  Is there an option to go back to the previous version's 2 column view? I've been using the v3 beta for a few months, but I just can't get used to the new interface. It's too busy for my tastes and actually slows me down.

I find myself having to stop and read more in v3, rather than quickly scanning the info to get what I need. Also, when editing info in the Logins field, I prefer v2's method of keeping everything in one column under the website/username, as it was faster and easier to just tab through when I needed to change something. V3 makes you mouse over to the third column, click edit, and then tab through; it disrupts the flow.

I'd also like to see an option to turn off Tags, Notes, and Attachments in the Logins section since it's not something that I use. I love it in the Software section, but not in Logins.

Obviously a lot of time and development went into updating the interface and I appreciate the effort, but it's not my cup of tea. It's just too visually busy.

Overall though, v3 is a marked improvement and well-worth the upgrade price. Customer service at Agile continues to be amazing and I'm extremely happy with the app.

CHIEFTED  Pretty much the Gold standard for password/secure note/identity saving.

I think someone wrote that there is 1Password and then there is everything else.

The upgrade to V3 is great. I love the 1password anywhere feature. Not

crazy about the "locking safe door" UI that you are first show when launching the

program but since I use this from all of my web browsers I hardly see it.

The new syncing feature, using Dropbox works like a champ and with the

iPhone version of the software I am set to go anywhere.

For stability; even the beta builds of this (was an early users since I was

beta testing 10.6 for a while due to a work project) where stable and

never had any real problems with it.

ODYSSEUS  Actually, I take it back. There does seem to be a major bug (experienced by some) that causes 1Password3 to consume vast amounts of memory (thus causing a general slowdown to due to vm paging) as it continually reloads its data. LEOOFBORG  Whatchu talkin' 'bout Richard? ;-)

1Password3 works GREAT with Snow Leopard. No more Input Managers, works out of the box with current cutting edge Camino2 and Firefox3.5, even WebKit nightly builds.

Seriously folks.. stop using the Keychain and turn off password saving in all of your browsers [except Chromium, but I expect that to change soon].

1P2 was very good, 1P3 is a worthy upgrade. I've been using it since it went beta as a 1P2 user.

1P is one of the few apps that I will upgrade without hesitation, over any other 'beta' app. The devs really know their stuff and are VERY supportive of their users. If you're having a problem drop them a line. One of the few apps I can really give solid 5's to... highly recommended.

I will say that once I took the time to tweek it just the way I wanted this program to work there is no there password program that even comes close to this one! ANNA M  Very useful application - saves all you passwords and log-ins.

The user interface is clear and simple, and it even integrates with all the popular browsers.

The main disadvantage of it in my opinion - it's too costly for just a password-management application. A price of $19 would be much better-fitting for an application of this kind.

ELEGRAPHY  I think to paid $39.95 is very reasonable price for a multi-data manager like 1Password. As you said this is a "Very useful application - saves all you passwords and log-ins", but DO YOU KNOW This is not JUST only a password manager?

If you go check 1Password "Add New Wallet Item" and all the other Add features on the 1Password's tab, you'll know this app is not only manager all your web login+passwords, but it can do SO much more. Plus it comes up new updates all the time, almost once or twice a week sometimes; but all you need to do is to press "Update" button when the update window pops up, and 1Password will do all the dirty works for you.

One more nice thing to know, I don't remember when was the last time it ask me to pay any of its update, so this means this $39.95 is one time only fee you need to pay, then you'll have free updates lifetime!

Apparently there is a major conflict between SafariStand and 1Password leading to problematic displaying of the 1password browser extension button in Safari toolbar as multiple Windows reopen at launch (SS) leads to multiple 1Password button in the toolbar.

Deselect this option in SafariStand setting (Restore Method at Launch=Nothing) and let SafariTabs control this parameter (When Safari Launches = Automatically open saved Tabs) and you override that issue.

DTEARE  Thank you for the suggestion.

We have looked at Chrome and have found that it does things completely differently than Firefox and Safari, so it will take some time to add support. The good news is it looks like we can provide at least a subset of 1Password's features in Chrome, so with any luck, a future release of 1Password will have Chrome support.

With that said, we are busy on 1Password 3 at the moment. Once we get 1Password 3 released and things calm down, we will be excited to investigate Chrome further. Luckily Chrome is still not officially released, so we still have some time :)

MATTETH  1password has been a must have for me for a few years, and I have been happy with it. For long I just used it forgot it, just as one should with a utility.

1p has very active developers, which of course is a good thing. The downside is that they choose to update the application very often, causing it to throw alerts on updates all the time.

As for version 3, I'm afraid it will be even more "A Big Application". I personally think it should be a utility. Lean and good. Just work.

Developers: you're the best. But don't overdo it. Keep updating 1Password when necessary - and get to work on your next big thing :)

IMASTERING  I've been using 1Password for a few years. It's been a dream software and has always worked A+.

Lately the last update became corrupt during download. I noticed it was an issue of my internet provider. There was a glitch during the download process, however I did not think it would affect the update.

I went ahead and did the update anyway. The update did not work as expected since it was corrupted. I was in the middle of a critical situation, needing access to several important passwords to employers. In less than 24 hrs their Chief Evangelist had sent me an email with detailed instructions as to how to fix the problem.

I am a Mac specialist serving the pro-audio industry. I generally fix my own problems but did not want to risk loosing my passwords out of ego.

The problem was fixed and there was even a follow up!

It reminded me of my own private practice. If you are a project studio owner, or you are the Grammy guy... you will get a call or email from me within that period of time.

Thanks you guys at 1Password!

ALKOFOX  If there is one must have application for the mac this is it.

I have tried all sorts of password managers out there till I discovered this gem one day. The interface is extremely easy to use and the features are just right, not to many and all the ones you would need (at least for me). Now with the announcement of 1Password 3 and the 1PasswordAnywhere feature it gets even more useful for people who use macs and PC's. The customer support is the best I have ever seen, I had a question that I asked on a Saturday and I got a response on a Sunday. How many companies have customer support like that?

I will be recommending this application to others for sure.

KATNIP  First things first. Let's talk about customer support. Three words: second to none. With the arrival of Snow Leopard (for us Mac folks) and 1P's beta version 3, they have been inundated with requests for help, not because of the product per se, but mostly because of the need to change Safari to run in 32-bit mode rather than the default 64-bit (if you're 1P's version 2.x – version 3 plays nicely with 64-bit Safari), and keychain issues. The folks at Agile have been supportive, prompt in their responses, friendly, helpful, and eager to assist. I'd admitted to them that I'm a fairly recent Mac convert and know little about keychains and such (although I am computer literate in general), and none of the 3 people who helped me made me feel like the newbie I am. So customer support is wonderful. As for 1Password itself (I use the Mac and iPhone versions), it is the best program of its type that I know, and I've tried plenty of them. And the people behind the products work HARD to keep improving them, regularly providing updates when necessary due to the ever-changing OS's and browsers that 1P works with, and any little bugs that may be found due to the complexity of OS’s, multitude of browsers including mobile browsers and so on, and - maybe most important of all - they LISTEN to their users. Their price points for their products are just right, too.

Summary: If you're looking for a secure, encrypted, easy-to-use, and DEPENDABLE product of this type, or any other Agile products, they’re the best, and no worries if you need help. They're there for you. Even on weekends, which shocked me whenever I received replies on Saturdays and Sundays, including yesterday! (And I promise I don't work for them; I just strongly believe in promoting products and services that I've used and believe in, especially when the developers and support team go above and beyond...)

DBTINC  Been using 1Password for about a year and it's the most effective program of its type that I've used. More importantly, when I had a problem on updating to Snow Leopard, they had the answers that worked the first time! That's a major plus in my book.

LOVEMYMACS  This is one of the two best apps on my macs. Before I had it I used the same overly simple password for every site. Now I've got roughly 140 different passwords that consist of random punctuation with some numbers and letters sprinkled in, generally as long as the individual sites will allow. The program works flawlessly although occasionally individual fields need to be edited when entering complete identities. But I sense that this is more a function of those sites and even so it saves 95% of the time even in those cases. And yes there are occasional sites with floating boxes that won't allow this type of login but in that case it's easy enough to simply copy and paste my login directly from 1password using the easy interface that still makes that very quick. Another feature that is amazing is the instant entry of credit card information. It's so easy that I've had to make a point of being careful because an impulse purchase is all too easy. Two clicks and most of the time I've entered my identity and completely filled out the credit card info including billing address.

When I recently started completely fresh with a new computer, after I installed CS4, this was the second application I installed. Can't imagine my computer without it. And the support is staggering. I don't think I could do better if I had an expert next to me. Their response times, the immediate relevance of their answers, the fact that every time they've been able to get me going with one detailed email, I couldn't think more highly of them than I do. I think that if you try this application for a month you won't want to live without it.

DTEARE  Do not worry about the yellow highlighter effect for copying :) This was an experiment and we have already decided to change it. We have a new, simpler design that will be implemented before the final 3.0 release.

Please join us in the 1Password 3 Early Access forum where this topic has been discussed in depth.

PROKOS_J  A heads up on 1Password version 3…

As of version 2.11 I really like this software, the interface is simple and uncluttered and works perfectly. I don't like what's happening with this software in version 3. The simple interface as been changed. The yellow highlight marker for copy mode, come on, that's the best they could think of. That in no way blends in with the Mac OS. Please at least ditch that Agile.

So for those who like this software and agree with me that function is more important than an upgraded design take a look at the beta before it's design is permanently embedded in stone and shipped out. Send an email and tell them that it is function that's important. Remember you are paying for the upgrade, I already have.

22DUKE  using 1 Password since it's beginnings and while it's one of the most important utilities I use there are several shortcomings:

1. New version is far to slow on Intel 8 core 10GB Ram it takes several seconds to open after password is inserted.

2. It creates now a huge file in system folder (I guess due to thumbnails) over 400MB in my case.

3. New interface is clunky and not very user friendly.

4. so called iPhone pro version does nothing else then normal version.

5. Still no ability to find, compare and delete duplicates (created by faulty iPhone sync functionality)

6. No integration with Mobile Me for syncing

I would give it 5 stars if this where addressed.

ZEB B  Unfortunately, 1PW doesn't work with the increasing number of flash-based login screens that I encounter. Perhaps that will change with Version 3. I find myself keeping Password Wallet open to handle these situations, because it is much easier to copy and paste the login information from there. Or, I rely on flash-based cookies for these sites, something I'd prefer not to do.

The only real advantages that I see for 1PW over Firefox's password management system are the identity and wallet features, though these are frustrating sometimes (pasting an identity omits my name too often). As someone noted below, 1PW is not a good place to keep notes, compared to PW Wallet, which is much more compact.

I rate it at about 3.5.

PIP J  I've said this before but I have to say it again--1Password is the best app on my Mac. I've used personal computers since the early 80's of every type and OS. Across those nearly 30 years I have several apps that I rank as the gold standard for their category, and for software in general. For the past 2 years, nothing has surpassed 1Password in terms of functionality (to include filling an important need), ease of use, scope of function, and regular updates and support. Designers of other apps should set this app as a mark to strive for.

Security is a growing threat and 1Password provides the user with everything that could be wanted, be he a novice or an advanced user.

This is the way every Mac app ought to be.

ILGAZ  or people can be a little understanding and give it some patience until snow leopard "natural version", the 3.0 settles.

It is same deal for all such software, just look at updates in macupdate.com these days. It is not a bad thing, it is a good thing that software gets updates/fixes when such drastic upgrade of OS X ships. Move from 32/64 to pure 64bit is a big deal, real big deal for x86.

IMHO, be a little patient and keep up with updates as it is a password manager. Or use macupdate&other site "mail me when it gets updated" service and than disable the update checking so you can view if update matters to you.

FHAMPEL  1PW is good, though not perfect as a form filler--I agree with other posters about this. This is primarily a review of the 1PassWord Palm App, which is one reason I bought the Mac program. I consider the Palm application a sloppy afterthought, almost a joke. It is currently impossible to enter information on the Palm and sync to the Mac. Worse notes contained in the Mac 1PW entries can be seen only 2-3 lines at a time on the Palm, making it practically impossible to read them.

The Mac application is a very poor place to keep reference information about confidential items. One must classify each item (e.g. password, identity, and it is not possible to convert one kind of item to another. So, for example, I cannot keep all the information about a credit card in one place (online account, summary data, wallet information). I have to look at two entries. 1PW can get confused if you register for a web site one one screen, but must log in on another. 1PW will take you to the sign-up screen, not the log in screen.

MEGAS88  For those of you wondering, "Why the hell should I bother with this app? I have no damn need for something that's built into my browsers. Firefox even has the best managing for my passwords I'll ever use. Why Should I pay or get this from an offer I got?"

Well, ready for this? Those words were what I posted (not exact I believe but close) in a youtube review of this app. I then realized I had an offer from macheist for a free license so I thought I'd give it a shot since the replies in that comment were generally pointing to the fact that this is a great app.

Sure enough, after I installed it I simply couldn't believe how wrong I was. That's right! Every single thing you read from that youtube comment were completely wrong. I even offered an apology on said video stating how great this app is. I've since about 6-8 months have been using 1password for the single problem I keep facing in many situations in any browser. AUTOMATICALLY FILLING MY LOG INS!

This is reason 1 why you should buy 1password. If you visit sites that frequently drop your log in information (say fourms, banking sites etc.) then this app does for you what you wish built in password managers did. One click of the 1password extension and you are set. No typing (except for your master password 1 time) and all that time consuming work is over and done with.

Wow, and that was reason 1. Reason 2 is a doosy. Auto filling identities and wallet information.

But wait? Huh? There can't be an app for any OS let alone a seamless extension that works across browsers that can automatically fill out all that time consuming information about my address, my name, email, even my credit/debit/whatever payment method used cards. Yes, there can be and yes there is.

1password will allow you to store personal information such as your identity which includes but obviously not limited to full name, email, address, phone number etc. Also, the wallete feature keeps track of (when you type it in of course) your credit cards, and yes, receipts for licenses of apps. This feature is well known to anyone who purchased the Macheist bundle and it's included as a feature of 1password.

Reason 3 why 1password rocks? Well, can't have all that personal information just floating around your system and not worry about security right? 1password's got you covered. With 128 bit encryption you won't have to worry about hackers getting your data any time soon.

Reason 4 and this one's gotta be the best of the bunch for security loving guys and gals out there. IT HAS A BUILT IN PASSWORD GENERATOR! That's right folks, and this isn't your ordinary password generator. This one has a slider. What the heck? A slider. It basically means you can chose just how secure you want your password to be. Based on how far you make the slider go will actually change the level of how random the letters, numbers, symbols etc will be and how long it will be. This means that you won't need to use the same password for everything because 1password stores all those randomly generated passwords in it's secure database which you can access with, you guessed it. That 1 single master password.

Reason 5 and the final reason. Price, free trail, and money back guarantee. With a price point of $40 for a single license and $70 for a family pack of 5 licensees there's really no beating it. Plus, with their deals you can easily upgrade to 1password 3 for even cheaper. Oh, and if your a new user and get it now than the 3rd version license is free. Yup, free. No extra cash no strings. Plus, what have you got to lose. You can try it out free for 30 days and after that if you buy it you have 30 days to get a refund if you don't like it. What's there to lose? 2 months of this great app and trust me you won't be returning this awsome gift of an app.

One con and this is only ONE con of this app is that for security nuts, you will have to manually lock the keychain in 1password to prevent anyone from just clicking the extension and using your data. This means if left unlocked then clicking the extension in firefox safari etc will allow anyone to simply fill out all info with one click. Not a problem as long as you remember to lock it. I have no worries since no one but me uses this in my house. But I have been ensured that the next major release 1password 3 will make good on far more advanced security features that will keep this problem completely fixed. And with the early bird pricing special, why wouldn't you take advantage of this?

Let's recap,

1. Secure, encrypted passwords, identities, wallet, app licenses, other sensitive information.

2. Tech support that rivals if not tops even the best apple care calls. One email to these guys and they'll respond as quick as less than 24 hours. At least that's been my experience. I actually got a response to an upgrade question in less than 3 hours. If that's not good friendly support than please tell me what is.

3. It's just easy. The number one will be used ALOT. 1 password to manage thousands, 1 password to fill in all your information, 1 password to well, do everything you need to fast and easy.

Oh, did I mention there's a $4-8 iphone/ipod touch app that allows syncing between your mac and the mobile device? Because that's kinda the best thing anyone could ever ask for if they travel alot.

If there is anything I missed then I'll add it later but please give this app a shot and a download at this or the developer's site. I know I'll be pre-ordering my family pack of 1password for me, my mom and a couple friends. 5 licenses, I can do alot with that. Happy downloading everyone and don't forget to give your feedback to those nice guys who develop 1password. They're a real great bunch. They always appreciate it.

FELIX01  Yep, LOUNGE DELUXE has it exactly right, get real.

I also use 1P daily, heck, at least a hundred times daily but it still can't access my online bank account without a workaround. And a few not at all due to the way the sites are designed/coded.

OTOH, 1Password is well worth the money for the convenience and ability to have strong passwords effortlessly but a quick look through the company's support forum will certainly show some warts.

But there is one big difference on the support front, movers & shakers within the company monitor the forum and actually answer questions (typically within a very short period of time...a couple hours unless it's crunch time like right now before their version 3.0 release). Believe me when I say Agile makes the process of getting help a pleasant one. I don't think you can find another software company with a more publicly accessible support framework. They make you feel like fixing your problem is their #1 priority. And that's pretty nice when you have something that doesn't work the way you think it should.

And one more thing...the small company isn't afflicted by the common NIH (Not Invented Here) Syndrome. Got a good idea for making the software better? Post it on the forum and you'll get a courteous response. And if it makes sense and is technically feasible, you'll likely see it incorporated in a future release. That's the kind of customer-oriented people you're dealing with at Agile.

KANEBILL  1Password is an absolute must for anyone who uses passwords on the internet. Until I found this program I constantly had problems remembering the various passwords I used for the many sites I visited online. I would inevitably have to type in a few passwords until I found the right one. This led me to use the same password for all sites, and an easy one to type and remember too, which compromised my security. 1Password solved this problem for me. It pops up automatically when I type a password in a field and asks if I would like the program to remember it. If so I then only have to remember the master password on my computer and it will fill in the password, as well as name, address and even credit card info if I like automatically. 1Password will even create secure passwords if I don't want to make one up myself. This program is terrific and I HIGHLY recommend it.

STILL_SPARKLING  Apple should pay these guys $1.00 for every Mac sold (or better yet, include the app on every new system as part of the O/S). Using 1Password is truly pleasant and seamless, it enhances your computing experience so greatly, you sometimes forget that you’re working. I know that sounds over the top, but it’s true. The only app that can possibly compare to the same state of computing nirvana is (was) the last stable version of Quicksilver.

Some things you may not know:

The Agile keychain is stable - much, much better than Apple’s imho. In all the time I’ve used the Agile keychain, it has never corrupted, unlike Apple’s, which used to corrupt every 6 months or so on my system, despite my best efforts to prevent it.

Previous versions of 1P required you to close all browsers before applying the updates; that is no longer necessary.

If you add a new browser to your Applications folder or add a new profile to Firefox and don’t see 1P in it’s familiar position, don’t panic. Simply open 1P, hit command + , (comma) to open the prefs, and check the box next to your new browser or profile. 1P is now ready to go.

Someone below asked if 1Password was as good as Roboform. Well, I have a Windows computer (rarely used these days) and Roboform is not even in the same league as 1Password. It’s adequate, probably the best password manager available for that platform, but like most Win apps, it’s an ugly, jumbled mess and cludgy to use, esp for new users. See for yourself. Go to 1Password’s homepage and look at the screenshots, then go to Roboform’s and look at theirs. After you stop your eyes from bleeding, go back to 1Password’s homepage and download the trial. You won’t be disappointed.

But let me warn you: once you start using 1Password, it will be torture to use any other computer without it.

N8INAZUSA  This app has been one of those apps that I add to my list: "well worth it's weight in gold (or at least what you paid for it)"

As soon as I installed it, I went the tentative route (as I do with most trials). I didn't import a thing.

The beauty is: I was able to surf the web on the fly and in the course of doing so, add my passwords as needed. In other words, I was able to hit the ground running with this app and it didn't slow me down one bit.

That's important to me.

Password generator? Brilliant. Fast and helpful.

Video tutorials? Some were hard to find but all in all (for a visual learner like me), extremely helpful.

Syncing between macs? With an official recommendation for dropbox, 100% satisfied. This was also added to my aforementioned list. Worth it's weight in gold.

Exports? Impressive. I'm particularly blown away by the html export.

Customer service? Speedy and personal response.

I short: Highly recommended.

MEDORAS  For the very few who are claiming this app is buggy or "created havoc" on their Mac, I would respectfully suggest that you look elsewhere for the problem. When installed on a series of MacBooks/G4's and G5's I have found 1Password to work flawlessly. The developer always releases a new version within 24 hours of browser updates. This has become one of the most indispensable apps I have used since I bought my first Macintosh II. I am surprised that Apple hasn't yet purchased 1Password.

CINDY SABBAG  I have been using 1Password for almost a year. I LOVE it!!!!!

I do a lot of both bussiness and personal things on the computer, and have always tried to create strong passwords. However, like many people I trouble remembering the passwords I created. Every time I went to log into a site I had to look-up my password. It drove me crazy. Then, I bought 1Password. What a difference it made! Now I have 1 really strong password to unlock 1Password. 1Password then enters what ever convoluted password I have created for the site I am on. Only 1 password to remember, I can manage that.

Recently, 1Password was not able to locate any of the passwords, which I had stored there. I contacted technical support/customer service via e-mail, and received a prompt response. We passed information back and forth and soon had the problem completely fixed!

1Password was recommended to me by a friend, who works in IT for a large university. I HIGHLY recommend 1Password and commend the EXCELLENT technical support!

GEORGED  Being 'new' (1 year +) to serious OS X use, I gave 1Password a trail as a Roboform-like MAC alternative. It created havoc on my system.

Itunes, after a recent update, would start independently, and refuse to close. After several hours of searching, and trials to correct the behavior, it only stopped after going through 1password's tedious, multistep uninstall process.

Good idea - too buggy for my taste.

But from your comment it looks like this app still needs to grow up a bit. I wonder why are there so few quality apps for mac users! :P

For anyone who uses Windows and is looking for a quality password manager, I strongly recommend Roboform. I am neither their employee nor affiliate, but I am so happy with it that I tell about it to all my buddies :)

ROBOTANK  I've been using 1Password for a long time and have never experienced major stability issues. The plethora of positive reviews suggests that few other users have either. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but you should definitely ask for some help on the Agile forums. The developers are extremely helpful, and I'm sure they'd do their best to track down the issue. Really, 1Password does not need to "grow up." Bad experiences with this app are the exception, not the rule.

MR_DIRECTOR  What can I say that hasn't already been said about 1Password? Well, I guess I could say that I rarely purchase software like this—add-on software that claims to "speed up" something I could do myself. But this is definitely a worthwhile purchase.

And "speeds up" is a horrid understatement. I love using it to log into various financial websites quickly so I can check my balances and may bill payments in 10 minutes rather than 30 minutes.

At least try it for 30 days. If you're like me, you'll be buying it within 30 minutes.

BRAZEEBRA  1Password has, for me, progressed from a useful keychain-on-steroids to a full-fledged password application that can span my home mac, my work mac, and my iPhone. I use it and rely on it every day. There are two applications that I always miss when I work on other macs, and 1Password is one of them (Quicksilver is the other). 1Password on my iPhone helps this issue out, though.

The interaction with Dropbox is another benefit. This is a very well-sorted application, and the development has continued to add value to the proposition.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  How To Import Your MacUpdate License Info Into 1Password.

1. Login into your MacUpdate account. (The login area is at the upper right corner of every MacUpdate page.)

2. You will be presented with a screen that shows "MacUpdate: My Purchases".

3. Click on the word "Receipt" for the application(s) you have purchased.

4. At the bottom of the list, underneath your serial numbers, you will see a button that says "Save to AppShelf". Click it once. The file will be saved to your computer (probably to your Downloads Folder or Desktop, depends on how you have things set up).

5. Open 1Password on your computer.

6. Drag the MacUpdate file you just downloaded onto the 1Password icon in your Dock.

7. 1Password Import Assistant will open. Choose "Start Import".

Voila! Done! All of your license and purchase info is now imported into your 1Password Wallet.

1Password will also import info from a variety of other applications such as KeyPassX, RoboForm, Password Wallet, Generic Text, Cloak or Turbo Passwords, and many others. Just choose "File, Import," and follow the easy instructions on your screen.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  Agile Web Solution rocks so hard! Mere hours after Safari v4 is released, Agile has an update posted making 1Password compatible. Happily, this is the kind of customer service 1Password lovers the world over have grown to expect and appreciate from the Agile team. Superior software made even better by exemplary customer support.

If you know someone who is new to Macs, buy this app for them. It's indispensable. It's shocking how much time you save and how much more efficient your day goes when you have 1Password managing the annoying gruntwork of remembering your logins, wallet info, secure notes, and generating strong passwords. If I could only afford one app to put on a brand new Mac, this would be it.

1Password is my desert island app!

My dearest wish is that it would auto-import the licensing information and serial numbers from my purchased software (like App Shelf) so that I don't have to copy/paste it into a secure note myself. Other than that, this app is sheer perfection.

RIBIT  I should have said long ago how great a product this is. Merely lifting the headache of multiple passwords to remember/administer, and avoiding the pitfall of One-Password-For-Everything would be enough, but 1Password integrates so thoroughly and seamlessly into life online that it becomes indispensable in about 3 hours. The extra features above and beyond simple password maintenance merely add to the joy of using it, and the responsive tech support is of a level equaled by only 2 or 3 other Mac vendors. THAT says a lot. What kicked me awake? Today I set up a userID and password on the IT site of a major university. There was a glitch in the process and when I discussed it with the support tech I described how 1Password generated a super-strong password for me, saved it, and stood ready with it (and all my others) whenever needed. The IT tech said, "Oh, I NEED that!" But he's a PC guy and I had to say, "Sorry, it's Mac only." I tried hard not to gloat. Agile is a Macintosh developer in The Macintosh Way as defined by Guy Kawasaki. There is no higher praise.

What I'd like to point out most here is the top-notch support that Agile provides. A quick look at their forums will reveal that the developers respond quickly, politely, and helpfully to every question and request. (They respond in the same fashion to email.) SOLO68  This review is long, long overdue. By the way, I am a recent switcher. I came from PC land to the Mac late last year. To this day 1Password remains my favorite Mac app. It is such an excellent program and I haven't yet used all of its capabilities. It installs without a hitch. It works right within my browsers. And it syncs with the Agile Web Solutions sister app, AllBookmarks. I do not have a bad thing to say about this app. The support is excellent. I can recall more than a year before I had enough cash saved to purchase my Mac I contacted their support with questions. They answered me promptly and encouraged me to make the switch as soon as I was able to do so. Even now their support team is on top of things, with a continued swift response time. I was asked to give a review and do so without payment or special favors. Everything I say is of my own will and I stand by every word. Agile Web Solutions is an excellent group of Mac programmers and they really care about their client base. If anyone is thinking about switching to a Mac I encourage you to do your research and satisfy your every thought. Make an informed decision, and stay away from the quote, unquote, "Fan Boys". In my opinion, they are completely biased towards Apple, but Apple is by no means perfect, and that's another story. As for 1Password, at least give the trial version a try. It is fully operational and makes signing in to websites as easy as breathing air. Best wishes.

Its iPhone companion is also excellent and I use it daily. I don't even think about login and password much anymore because it's a matter of simply clicking the 1Password icon in my browser. So simple, very handy, and saves me so much time and effort.

It also has a decent import/export command, so there is no data lock-in or anything like that.

OTTONOMY  Nothing else comes close. 1Password far exceeds the capabilities of any other password/login manager. Development never gets stagnant either. If I have a question or a problem, someone answers me via personal email almost immediately, even on weekends. What problems I have had were easily resolved with a little guidance from the friendly support staff. Convenient work-arounds have been provided for unusual feature requests. New and improved functionality (which hardly seems possible, as the product is already perfect) seems to come with every one of the frequent updates, which are painless to install. Synchronization across browsers and computers is effortless. Importing the database from my old, somewhat obscure password manager was simple, even though 1Password didn't specifically support it. TIMMYB  I honestly don't understand all of the hype surrounding this utility. If you use Safari then you can achieve very similar functionality by enabling Auto-Fill in the Safari prefs. Safari will then be able to save and restore your logins on almost all websites (some sites use weird login forms which Safari can't store/restore, but there are also some that 1Password can't store as well.) What's more, Safari provides true Auto-Fill of forms whereas with 1Password you must either navigate to a special menu or use a key combo to initiate the filling of the form. Safari in conjunction with the Keychain Access app (found in your Utilities folder) can also manage more than one keychain file to store your password entries. This can be configured to give you very fine control over how and when your passwords are used by Safari - 1PW only supports a single keychain file for all of your entries and simply does not offer this level of detailed access control. As a password database it is a decent app and it can also be used to store other important bits of data such as software registrations and personal info (of course there is no reason why one couldn't use the Keychain Access app to store the same info by using its Secure Notes feature. I just don't think this app is polished or versatile enough in its form filling capabilities to justify its price. Heck, I got it for free and I'm terribly thrilled with it! Be sure to throughly test it out before paying so that you know if its capabilities are a good fit for how you work in your browser environment.

DTEARE  I understand exactly where you're coming from; we actually hear this a lot as on the surface Safari's autofill and 1Password's features overlap. In reality, 1Password's features start where Safari autofill ends. Let me give a few examples to back up that statement.

First, Safari and other built-in browser password managers have troubles on many financial websites. Many websites have multiple password fields, disable Safari's autofill feature, use multi-step login steps, randomly generate field names, or use other techniques that often cause the standard Autofill to fail. 1Password bends over backwards to make as many of these work as possible.

Second, Safari's Autofill only works in Safari. It sounds obvious, but consider what a pain it will be if you ever switch browsers. 1Password allows you to store all your web passwords in one place and access them everywhere. With 1Password, the days of manually copying usernames and passwords from one browser to another are gone :)

Third, Safari's Autofill does not work automatically if you have multiple accounts for a website. With 1Password's menu it is very natural to have many accounts, whereas with Safari you need to manually type the username to get the "Autofill" to kick in. This behavior is quite confusing, and it is not uncommon to find "how to find your Safari login" blog posts.

Fourth, you can sync 1Password with your iPhone so you always have your passwords available with you.

Fifth, Safari fills forms on pages with URLs that are an exact match to what it has saved. 1Password offers precise URL matching so that the most relevant saved Login is selected by default, but also presents other matching Logins as options. This means if a web site moves its login page, 1Password can still log you in. In fact, 1Password can even use the information saved on a registration page to fill a form on the login page!

Of course there are more features as well but I don't want to type an entire essay here :)

Lastly, I wanted to mention you are right that Autofilling a web site when you visit it is a nice feature and it is something we're considering adding. The main reason we haven't yet is because 1Password has a feature called Go&Fill. What this does is it allows you to type in a few characters of the site you want to go to, and 1Password will take you to that site, fill in the login information, *and* automatically submit the form for you. Go&Fill is so much more convenient than Autofilling a page (where you have to type the URL and press 'login') that we've resisted adding Autofill, but I think we will end up adding it anyway as everyone has their own way of doing things.

Cheers!

LOUNGE DELUXE  I tried the trial version and this app indeed works as smooth as all but a few reviewers have stated. The only thing that keeps me from purchasing it is the fact that the current build is very close to the release of a version 3 (or so it seems), and I would not like to pay an upgrade fee so soon after my purchase.

DENNY DOUBLEPLUS MARKETING  1Password simply rocks! I started using it about 6 months ago and now find it's permanently embedded into my workflow. This is the type of program you install and then just use - on a highly regular basis. It's an incredibly smooth experience moving in and out of your numerous passworded (bookmarked) sites. The forethought from the developers is simply outstanding. I realized this when I moved the mouse near a password in the application window and a little "COPY" icon "lit" up which allowed me to copy a password (or any field value for that matter) by a simple press on my mouse. Nice, really nice!! So, how can I purchase shares in the company????

DEANGELO  1Password - do not hesitate - just get it. This program makes life easier.

I bought program back in 2007 and never used it thinking it would be complicated to use. I tend to keep my computer needs simple. Well, as you all know, we keep adding more passwords into our lives. So the other day I sat down and loaded it up. Just as I suspected, the process was not as simple as I hope it would be, blame that on my computer ignorance.

Bottom line is that 1Password came through with flying colors in responding to my emails after emails. I am now up and running with this program on three computers. I went to their FAQ section afterwards and there were the questions answers that I wasted my time and theirs emailing them. Lesson learned, do go to the FAQ.

CAMNER  Prior to finding 1Password, I had tried (a while ago) Password Wallet, but didn't find it smooth. I had been using Roboform on the PC, and once I got VMWare Fusion on my Mac I found myself using Windows and Roboform for all of my stored passwords. No longer!

I've completely switched to 1Password. The best thing about it for me is that by combining it with Dropbox and storing my 1Password data in Dropbox I have access to all of my stored usernames/passwords/site URLs on my home mac, my office mac, and my laptop. 1Password gets to go where I go, and the convenience is unparalleled.

1Password integrates nicely with both Safari and Firefox...I don't know what I'd do without it!

CORPSECORPS  Not extatic about the browser integration method, but i must admit that 1Password has wound up being an excellent tool, if a bit pricey.

My concern is that since it uses its own keychain format, should something happen and this program become unavailable for whatever reason (permanently or temporarily), all those nice "strong passwords" i've generated will also be unavailable unless i also use some _other_ secure application to back them up now and then.

I wish Keychain Access could read Agilekeychains (i.e. 1Password stored it's data in OS X keychains).

Just wanted to say how impressive Agile Solution's response to the new Safari 4 beta release was.

I heard about the new Safari 4 beta via Twitter the morning it was released and bravely downloaded it to my Mac. I have 1Password and love it and would have been much disconcerted if it didn't work with the new Safari. But, I was fearless as I knew that Agile Solution's tech team had already posted a work around that meant that 1Password would work right away. Then, on top of that they had an update out that afternoon. This really is outstanding. I know most of us would have been patient so it would have been okay, but they didn't let any time pass and that really is something. Thanks so much to Agile Solution for such a quick response that really makes enjoying 1Password that more fabulous with the new Safari.

Have 1Password on the iPod Touch as well. Wonderful.

Hope this finds you well. Thanks, again, -Charlotte

DAN55304  I am very pleased with 1Password.

First, it meets a great need to keep my passwords safe and remember them for me on my Macs and my iPhone.

Second, the value is unbelievable. The family pack is great.

Third, the constant development is awesome. I downloaded Safari 4 today and noticed my beloved 1P icon was missing. The dreaded realization that Safari was beta and I'd have to wait for 1Password to catch up. The wonderful realization hit me that the folks at Agile are always on top of things (like when the iPhone came out) so I checked for an updated. Doh, they already had Safari 4 support!

What can I say? I have been an Apple owner since the Apple ][. This is one of the best investments I've ever made in software and a company.

CAZABIANCA  This is one of the most useful pieces of software I have ever found. One of the best qualities of the software is the commitment of the development team to improving and updating the software. They had a working Palm and iPhone/iPod Touch app up and running soon after the application was created. Just hours after the latest Safari Beta release was made they released a compatibility update.

About 1 year ago after reading an article in MacWorld about security and strong password usage I followed the advise at the end of the article and committed to changing my usernames and passwords to be strong and unique. I knew I would need a password management application. At the time I looked for an application for my palm device so I could keep them with me. I ran across this new software called one password that wasn't what I was looking for but it was very compelling in it's approach. I decided to try it out and was quickly convinced that any other approach would less useful. When they released the Palm sync months later I was able to get the portability with out any fuss. When I got an iPod Touch my life was made even easier. I went from having very poor security in my password to rock solid in about 3 hours.

Do yourself a favor and invest in 1Password.

DTEARE  I'm sorry for the delay on the Upek Eikon finger print scanner integration. There was a miscommunication between Upek and I at Macworld Expo in January. We were demoing a working Alpha of 1Password+Eikon and Todd (on the Upek team) assumed that meant the beta would only be a few weeks away and was telling everyone the Beta would be available by the "end of January". Having just been blessed by the arrival of my second child, I planned for a lot of time off and was aiming for late February. Somehow we never managed to realize what the other was saying and I apologize for that.

We have also been delayed by a few other factors as well, so the Beta won't be available as early as I wanted. Please check the Announcements forum at http://support.agilewebsolutions.com over the next month or two as we'll be announcing it there.

As to your question, you don't need to update to betas at all if you don't want to. You can simply wait for the next stable release in order to get all the improvements debuted in the betas. We are still working on this feature. You will need two updates in order to fully support UPEK fingerprint scanner in 1Password: a new build of 1Password application and an update of the Protector Suite software from UPEK.

The current version of 1Password already has certain support for the fingerprint scanner (it still needs work) but it won't be activated until there is a software update from UPEK.

PHILRJ  1Password is probably one of the best utilities I've ever used. I've been using it for nearly a month and it has already saved me more time than I could have imagined. It's a bit intimidating at first, but once you understand how it works it's simply amazing how safe and secure you feel your information is. All my passwords and personal info is synced across my computers and iPhone and a single click logs me into any site without needing to remember passwords ever again. Fantastic. And if I'm ever at a different computer, I just refer to my iPhone where all the same information is stored safely and securely (or so they say, but I trust the software and encryption). I've been recommending it to all my friends. I've been a mac geek for years and the software is simply a life saver. Highly recommended!!!!! Props to the Agile team!

MACNEWS  It would be great to see support for iCab, especially since it's now utilizing Webkit. It's a very feature-complete browser.

FOLLEREC  Got this as a freebie from MacHeist. Was excited about it. But I don't think I'm gonna use this long term. First the thing I liked:

1. Cross-browser integrated keychain with one-click autofill.

... and that's it. What scared me off:

1. Not cross-platform. Yeah you can tell me to export it, to use the online 1password invite-only thing. That's not cross-platform. I use my passwords everywhere.

2. No custom "Wallet Item". It's fixed to the fields of what the developers want you to use. So for my ATM, I have to use something like "Bank Account (US)" when I'm in fact in a different country. Minor yes, but what about government cards? Where I live, we don't only have a Driver's License and Social Security. I have no way of using the nice "Wallet" feature for those. Either I use one of the built-in items, and get the wrong label when I'm viewing it in the window, or I use a "Secure Note".

If I use the "Secure Note" feature, I might as well just use plain text files and TrueCrypt. Or use a NeoOffice spreadsheet and password protect that. Those are just as secure, plus they're cross-platform formats.

Seriously, the pro is great. But I might as well just use Firefox's builtin password saving feature. Yeah I'll have to manually transfer those to other machines, but then, this isn't cross-platform, so nothing much I can do about it if I were to use 1Password.

For $40, not worth it. Maybe $20. Good thing I got this for free.

ROUSTEM KARIMOV  Thank you taking the time to leave a review, FOLLEREC!

I am happy to know that you like the cross-browser integration with one-click login.

I also recommend to look at "Bookmarks" menu in 1Password browser toolbar menu. It will save you even more time by combining multiple actions: Navigate to the web site + Fill username/password + Click submit.

Another feature you may like is filling credit card information when shopping online. With one-click you can automatically fill credit card number, cardholder's name, and expiration date. This will save quite a few trips to retrieve the credit card from the wallet and then type the 16-digit number without spaces.

I am sure you will love the the strong password generator that automatically saves all generated passwords so that you do not have to spend any time to save them somewhere else.

And there are many other features that you will find useful. Also, do not forget the option to automatically sync all your Macs and sync data with the native iPhone application.

Now let me address your concerns:

1. Cross-platform support. Our focus is on Mac and iPhone and I would rather spend our time on making Mac and iPhone applications the absolutely best they can be.

We will provide limited cross-platform support in one of the next releases but it won't be close to what you see on Mac.

2. Custom Wallet items. This is a work in progress and I am sure you will be very impressed when you see it done. There are a few blog posts from 1Password enthusiasts that show how to add custom items yourself but it requires work from you and I cannot recommend that.

ROUSTEM KARIMOV  I just wanted to add that if you decide to use the Firefox password manager, make sure you set the master password for it as by default it stores your passwords unprotected.
