AARGL  Well, I would like putting a 5 stars for the simplicity of use, the low sensitivity about the overall activity of the computer, but there are only two little issues that avoided it:

- sometimes I've got a message saying that the sound selcted is corrupted, and I have to select it again. (actually the "Cow Bell" sound, chosen as "Bell sound")

- it doesn't start in sync when hitting the space bar

Apart from that, I love it. ;-)

KJBIRD  While I'm sure this application is a great help to many musicians, I use it to time exposures while doing photographic light painting in a darkened studio.

Many thanks to the developer for this app.

RON FLECKNER  The bug mentioned in my previous post has now been fixed. Metronome version 1.8 (actually version 1.8.1) works as advertised.

RON FLECKNER  Hi there, I'm the developer of this thing. Version 1.8 has a bug in that it won't allow you to enter a bell accent other than '10' in the bell accent text field. This is a bug that slipped by me. I'll fix it ASAP. Until it's fixed, here's a link to version 1.7 which works as advertised, but without some of the newer features of v1.8.: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~ronfleckner/metronome/met17.zip

If you don't care about having a bell accent on anything above beat 10, then you can still use the newer 1.8 version. You can check if the bug has been fixed and the fixed version available via the app's Check For Update... menu item

THEVALRUS  For the record, the new version works perfectly for me, even with loads of other running apps. Kudos to the dev.

THEVALRUS  I'm not sure how to "back up" a claim about a piece of software that doesn't work for me as it should, but nevertheless I'll concede that my previous review was sort of unfair. I did quit all my other applications and try again, as the dev suggested; the problem persisted, so it's not just my own error that caused it. Still, it's pretty clear that mine is an unusual case, so I'll offer a new rating of five stars to offset my previous one and get back in the good graces of the dev so he doesn't blow me off when I email him for support. Like I should have done in the first place. ;)

SQUAKO  I wrote my own cheesy little applescript studio program for finding the BPM from a keytap because i couldnt find the program anywhere. Im glad to see someone has actually spent the time to build this program right, and hey, its a metronome also.

RON FLECKNER  Obviously, blatantly, ill-considered review by THEVALRUS.

Metronome works. You WILL get uneven beats or stutters if you run it while your system is busy doing too many other things. So will iTunes. The only way around this problem is to make the clicking occur in a specially configured thread which hogs the machine's CPU. I don't want to do that.

If you're going to be doing practice with a metronome, why would you have a lot of other stuff running? You're practicing, right?

THEVALRUS, the right thing for you to do would have been to email me. Your review, as it stands, is just a slur. You don't say anything to back up your claim. Please mail me or repost with a bit of background. And please try to be reasonable.

DOM21  The problem with metronomes on computers is if you are doing other tasks and CPU usage hits 100% the beats will hiccup or stall. So while a nice idea not completely reliable on a computer.
