PERSONYM DOWNLOADING EASY iWEB PUBLISHER Thanks for your speedy reply to my problem suggesting "Try using another browser to download the file" I tried Camino and Firefox under Mac, and Internet Explorer running under PC emulation using VMware Fusion. They each gave the same result: all I got was a .htm copy of the page that I was clicking the download linkage on. 1. I bring up the www.plyxim.com/free page ... no problem 2. Then I click on Easy iWeb Publisher v5.0 3. Which takes me to: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666 4. This takes me to a page telling all about Easy iWeb Publisher 5.0.1 which includes a "Download Now (561K)" linkage (which seems to point to the exact same page I'm already looking at) 5. I click on the "Download Now" link. 6. Which does a split second link to another Macupdate page that goes so fast I can't read the URL it's going to ... and then it returns me to exactly the same page I'm was on before (i.e. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666) 7. In the Downloadfolder on my Mac there is certainly a 52K file called 21666.html ... but this is just an image of the http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666 page and not a copy of the software to be downloaded. I am very ready to think that I am doing something stupid but could it be possible that there is an error on page http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666 in that it contains an incorrect linkage ... ???? Would it be possible for you to try the Download Now link for Easy iWeb Publisher on page http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666 to see if it works for you and let me know what I am doing wrong. Many thanks for your patience.

MISHA Are you running any privacy blocking software? Surfing with cookies off? Etc.? For downloads hosted by us (this one included) we require people click the Download Now link from this page for it to work ( http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21666 ). Our server must see the click as originating from our site to start the download successfully. If you are using anything that covers your tracks online, it might be blocking this. If so, please disable and try again. If not, please let me know your Mac OS and browser versions, as well as your location and ISP so we can investigate. Misha w/ MacUpdate (Version 5.0.1)

Launch Easy iWeb Publisher again and enter your settings 1. Pick your Configuration in the Easy iWeb Publisher tab 2. WA! Works as advertised. I have multiple websites using subdomains and was able to save paths and login info into individual configurations for simple toggling as needed. Yes, it really is only a customized ftp client, but it has been optimized for iWeb use and is (in my opinion) intuitive and elegant as all Mac software should be. iWeb has a perfectly good uploading solution that has (selfishly) been restricted to MobileMe domains and until Apple sees the light, Easy iWeb Publisher is going to bridge that gap for me... SHANEM Got it working and while only tried once it worked perfectly. Most confusion for me was in working out the "folder to publish to". I had to dig out the old email i received when I signed up where it had some FTP info that stated ... "INITIAL REMOTE SITE LOCATION: var/www/html" ... Once this was entered as the folder it worked perfectly. I was also a little confused initially on how to maintain .mac site and personal domain separately. Firstly, I don't think is a way to stop your personal domain site from being published to .mac short of deleting it after publishing it to a folder. Hope I'm wrong, could easily be the case! Secondly, to get just the desired site published to your personal domain just go into "sites" folder from your mac and grab just the folder you want published... iWeb publishes everything to "sites" so you need to be a bit careful. Probably very self explanatory but I would have this info useful a few hours ago! (Version 3.0)

DIGITALCLIPS Actually, Easy iWeb is slightly different from most FTP apps. I use many FTP applications and the problem with them is they cannot tell which files have been changed in an iWeb 'Publish to folder' action. You will find all files seem to have changed and all will get uploaded even if you only changed one (unlike publishing to dot Mac where just the changed files will go up). Even the folks at Transmit, my favorite FTP app, are still trying to solve this last time I spoke with them. Easy iWeb will only upload the files you changed no matter how large the site and it is very useful for this reason. (Version 3.0)

JAMESWORLD What's this, a program that actually works? That's not shock enough for you? How about a developer that actually responds and fixes bugs when you report them? It works with Leopard. Apple's Dirty Tricks Committee made sure you'd have to jump through hoops to publish your iWeb created site anywhere besides .Mac. The larger my site got the longer it took to upload the whole thing to the server every time I updated the least little thing. Then came Easy iWeb Publisher 2.0 to the rescue. It worked but only if I reconfigured and removed a space the program placed before entry fields every time I used it. Not a big deal. It's freeware and it worked. I wrote to the developer anyway and reported the bug. He sent me 2.0.1 that fixed it restoring my faith in software developers as people with the possibility of possessing a soul. (Version 2.0.1)

SILVERFACE Easy Iweb Publisher seems easy to use - until you try to use it. First, it gives you no clues as to how to log in to your website - and at least with mine, there's one login system for editing and another for other stuff (and not knowing anything about how they work, that's WHY I wanted to use this soiftware!). Once I was finally able to get it configured, it asked me what I wanted to upload. Uhhh...why ask ME? I'm the one who doesn't know, remember? After an hour of aborted attempts I learn I'm not supposed to be uploading the folder called "site" (that would be too logical to have to explain, right?) but instead have to upload my whole folder iWeb created, along with all the folders in it. So that ground away for over an hour (it was a very simple site layout - I don't KNOW how to make it complicated) - and finally it was done - "successfully uploaded"! And it doesn't work. Nothing - just a blank page. All the files are on the server just how Easy IWeb Published laid them out - but the site does not come up. So I deleted it all off the server and started...again. So I created a one-page, no pictures, all text site to try. It uploaded that successfully as well - and it doesn't work either. I've talked to people using the same server, and they understand html-whatever and ftp this and that...and have no problems at all. They say it's a bulletproof server with no special requirements. I guess except the one that causes "Easy" to upload stuff and cause it to not work. I suppose you get what you pay for - but I'm not happy at wasting hours over two days messing around with this thing. Nonexistent help files, no response to inquiries....forget support - sure, it's free, but if it doiesn't work you darned well should offer support. Back to square one and try to find another uploading program - hopefully one that works. I'd give this thing a "minus" for the wasted time were it possible, especially since my questions remain unanswered. but maybe there are SO many questions from people with the same problem the guy (or company, whatever) has just given up. Rating = worse than awful. (Version 1.4)

CIGARHISTORIAN Hi Mr. Finney. Thank you for your offer of help. Downloaded 1.4 as you suggest, but still have same problem when I upload the most recent version of my Museum (17± sites and 91± pages, 1200 photos total 125MB) there remain a goodly number of pages including SITE (my home page) that don't change or update, and the same 3rd level exhibits still haven't uploaded at all, giving a 404 error. Please look at . What you see represents about a quarter of what I have planned (I have 10,000+ historic pictures like those seen in the selling site). Bibliography, Types of tin boxes and Types of wooden boxes (ToWB) are biggest problems. Click on ToWB in home page, the sub-home (2nd level) page is NOT the one I tried to upload last night. I know because the Labels & Trim link on ToWB sub-home is connected in latest version. Same with TypeofTinBox sub-home page. The latest version of Dutch tin history is linked to pix and text. Those links that work on the Types of Wooden Boxes sub-home page were NOT created on pages located in the site, but are links such as "Cuban chests" that are physically located in another site, Cuba. I've tried uploading the entire mess about 8-10 times, and 1.3.4 permitted a page or two to update or load for the first time, but not all. "Dutch tin after WWI" for example didn't load with 1.3.3 but loaded the first time I tried 1.3.4 but some other files that loaded for the first time under 1.3.4 have resisted efforts to update, and a few have now reverted to older versioins. All very puzzling. Bibliography has never uploaded, resisting all previous efforts. My Museum will ultimately push iweb and iweb publisher to the limits because of size and link levels. This will ultimately be THE definitive site for cigar history, box and label collecting, and one of vital importance in advertising and packaging history. I'm giving away 55 years of research, the contents of 20,000+ pieces of ephemera, and 10,000+ photos because the web is easy to do piece by piece, topic by topic. The ability to make major additions and revisions monthly is vital. Your program is the key to that ability. I own about a dozen domain names on various hosts. Can that help? Everything publishes to folder easily and flawlessly, something I do as a form of saving. I can provide a disk for inspection of problem files if it would be helpful. Thank you. RCEPUCH What a terrific program! I'd been banging my head against the wall trying to upload my iWeb-created site using my hosting company's painfully (and needlessly) complex software. Easy iWeb Publisher makes the process simple as it should be, for those of us who aren't techies. I did experience a few glitches, thanks in large part to not being familiar with the relationship between FTP programs and firewalls, but developer Scott Finney patiently and cheerfully helped me get where I wanted to go. In the process, he made a few changes in the program to make it even easier for users so there's now a v1.3.3, and I highly recommend it! (Version 1.3.2)

OVERFIEND I need to step in here for a second. I oversee the use of computers by about 170+ inidividuals. The physical work site that I oversee is a Mac based site. Now in regard to the negative feedback of this product, not to sound condescending, to coin a phrase, but anyone who cannot figure out how to use this has something wrong. Since the physical site who's systems and processes I manage utilizes a high level of department to department web publishing, and the users range in ability from tchnologically inept to moderate knowledge, I think that is a good barometer of the use of this product. I have not had one problem, and neither have my users. There have never been any issues with it. The program is a simple ftp program that does exactly what it seems to have been built for, minimize the steps in publishing a web page from iWeb to a level that even the most technologically challenged users could successfully publish their info. When examining this program an egocentric viewpoint cannot be utilized, rather and understanding of what it is meant for. I have read reviews that state an FTP is enough for this task and that this program is not anyhting fantastic; in response to that, don't use it then. For those who have little knowledge and need a simple publishing solution taht even a 5 year old could use with success (and they can) this is a heck of a great program. (Version 1.2.3)

STIKE Just tried it for the first time, and it can automatically upload only CHANGED files or all files, whatever you wish, as well it overwrites all those files which are already on the server automatically, not like Cyberduck or other non-automated (for this purpose) apps.
