DYLAN MCNAMEE  I like it, but SimplifyMedia works better for me...plus, SimplifyMedia is free.

MyTunes RSS was my tool of choice for accessing my own iTunes remotely, but then it stopped being free, and more recently SimplifyMedia came out, does the same thing, and with a more invisible interface: my iTunes libraries show up in the "shared" section of iTunes wherever I am!

MIDE72  Well, I think you cannot compare Simplify Media and MyTunesRSS. They might basically do the same but have quite different approaches and feature sets. Please visit http://www.codewave.de/products/mytunesrss and read about all the great features. Also have a look at http://board.codewave.de for latest development news (e.g. latest beta versions).

ADINB  Great app, responsive developer.

Developer has responded to my emails and even implemented my feature requests.

This app is by far the best in its category--it allows everything -- playing in the browser via flash, m3u, xspf, and directly downloading files. User settings and individual user permissions are also supported.

LENIN  I've tried all of the other programs that try to do the same thing as this program and I must say this one is by far the best.

I run it on my mac at home and listen to my entire iTunes library at work on PC using (gasp) WMP!

Anyone who can make anything run, let alone as smoothly as this does on WMP deserves some credit!

Three cheers.

CF7  Would this work from a Mac, over the internet (not a local network), to a PC?

I really want to use this to listen to my music at school while I work.

CF7  Maybe the school's Board of Education portal is blocking it... (although it did say it timed out, & wasn't blocked)

MIDE72  Of course MyTunesRSS works over the internet as well. Make sure you have your firewalls opened for incoming traffic on the port you are using and your router configured to forward traffic on that port to the computer running MyTunesRSS. Also make sure no firewall or proxy server at the client side prevents you from accessing your server. This is often the case for schools, etc. As a workaround just use port 80 for MyTunesRSS since this should be open at schools, company networks, etc.

MIDE72  A timeout on the client side might as well mean something is blocking the traffic. Either on the client side or on the server side (i.e. your home network), so the server is not reachable.

UMIJIN  I couldn't get this app to work properly after starting the server on my 20" iMac over my wireless LAN at home.

I was unable to make a connection to the server with my laptop using the default settings (server doesn't exist) and even after switching to a different port. I don't have a firewall, as far as I know other than the standard settings on OSX.

Perhaps the settings aren't as self explanatory as they should be.

MIDE72  Did you use the address displayed in the status bar of MyTunesRSS after starting the server, e.g. "server running [http://192.168.0.2:8080]" or (if you have multiple network interfaces) one of the addresses displayed in the status bar's tooltip? If you need more assistance, please consider using the support form at the Codewave website or the official Codewave forum located at http://board.codewave.de (and linked on the Codewave website).

Best regards

UMIJIN  No - I didn't use that. I used what your html manual says to use: "http://127.0.0.1:8080". It says very clearly at the top of the page "The web application" to enter this address into your browser's address field. It doesn't say anything about using the address from the status bar.

However, using the address in the status bar in a web browser DOES work. Thank you.

I hope you will update or revise your manual to clarify this.

MIDE72  The documentation says "please test the application first by using a browser on the same system you are running MyTunesRss. Enter "http://127.0.0.1:8080" in your browser's address field" and "after starting the server, the status bar displays the address your server can be reached on your local network. Usually you have a single local address (e.g. 192.168.0.2)."

But never mind, most important is that it now works for you. :-) And I will try to make it clearer in the next release as well.

Best regards

MDAMLI  Excelent program :D

It is Universal Binary, by the way. Activity Monitor reports it as "Intel" under "Kind", despite MacUpdate.com claiming MyTunesRSS to be PPC.

I haven't tested the address in Explorer or Firefox, but if it works, that means I can share my music to people in the houe who doesn't have iTunes, or can't get it to work (running Windows).
