TWEETY_  Thanks for dropping 10.4.x support, I'm going back to the older version and switch off the update function (if it's possible...)

MICHAEL KWASNICKI  That's why I previously announced that 3.08 will be the last version supporting Tiger.

You can still get 3.08 from my homepage and disable auto update.

Sorry for this but I cannot make selective update procedures for each Version of Mac OS X.

PABLITO  I like so much this widget. I had an issue with 3.0, and the developer was kindle, gentle in the emails helping me; and promptly did an improvement and updated the software. It was really good to interact with him, I felt participating part of it.

I truly recommend to use it, because you can check all emails account you have, instead of only Gmail, as you can do in the commons notifies; or leaving the Mail open.

In addiction, the Leopard Mail icon is neat on dashboard ;)

PENGMAN  Doesn't work for me. Have logged out, logged back in. Won't inform me of new mail. The old version did, this one doesn't. OS 10.5.6 and 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

PENGMAN  I'm running Firefox 3.0.7 (widget was d/l with Speed Download) I tried the latest Safari beta and it wiped out my read/write privileges on my iMac so it's been erased.

SBCHAVEL  Looks nice, takes up little space, works well, good customization. But tracks the IN box, not all unread emails, so if you have rules set up to sort new mail, the widget will miss them. Suggestion: clicking on widget checks for new mail immediately.

HENRIKTEKNIK  Is there any chance of extending it, so you can check multiple email addresses in one instance of the widget?

That would be the only quibble I have with this, otherwise, superb widget.

MICHAEL KWASNICKI  Since Apple does not seem to do anything against the memory consumption I think it is up to us developer to provide ways out of that.

I can't promise to provide a solution for that very soon.

HENRIKTEKNIK  Major advantage: Mail.app doesn't need to be open in order to check unread mail.

Major disadvantage: You can't check more than one email account in the same instance of the widget. You have to use multiple instances, for checking more than one email.

SGILBERT  v2.0.3 is broken, as Joe said. Can't get past the password. Reverted to 2.0.2 which works.

And, yes, it would be great to have only new mail listed.

JAB47  I tried 2.0 and it worked like a charm. This morning I upgraded to 2.0.3 and I can't get past the password page for my account. I press verify and nothing seems to happen. Can I get 2.0 back until this is fixed?

SCHMELDING  I love this widget, but I have two beefs (or beeves?):

1. It's enough to have the widget open Mail onclick, but it's too much to tell it to check mail also. When the osascript tells Mail to "check for new mail" it checks all accounts. Some folks (like me) have "send only" accounts in Mail. I "hacked" my MailWidget and removed line 302 and it worked great.

2. What is with the sounds? Can we get a choice? The included ones were too noisy. I hac -- ahem -- changed mine to be the simple "Ping" sound. Short and sweet.

All-in-all though, it is one of my favorite widgets. Thanks!

XMROCKS  Pretty nice. The thing that differentiates this widget from all of the other mail checking widgets is that it doesn't open up Mail.

Those widgets are kind of redundant in that you'd open Dashboard first, it would then open Mail to check for new e-mail, and then you'd switch over to Mail.app. In other words, you could have saved time by just opening Mail.app in the first place. Kind of pointless if you ask me.

With this widget, it's an easy F12 to Dashboard. If there are new messages, you can then choose to open Mail if you want. If not, it doesn't care :-)

It would be nice to be able to read snippets of the new e-mail and then have the option to open the Mail.app, but so far a good start!

SHADOWNIGHT  The widget is nice and well-designed, but I thought I should point out that two copies of this widget open (I have two mail accounts) takes up 40MB of RAM on my machine while Mail only takes 30MB, so it may not be the tool of choice to replace Mail in RAM usage.

MICHAEL KWASNICKI  ummm are you serious ?

on my iMac I've got also 3 instances running and the RAM usage is something between 8 and 10 MB.

But this is not a problem of my Widget. My widget consists to 95% of JavaScript that is inactive the most time. Any Widget I have uses at least 7MB RAM per instance. I think the Developers at Apple should change this. I thing the RAM consumption comes from WebKit... Safari uses here often more then 100 MB of RAM

ARVIDTP  Are you sure?

1.41 does not work for my SSL connected account (but it does for my non-SSL one)

But great widget idea by the way - very handy. If it would just work for both my accounts...

MOOGLE  Ehh, more problems... looks like after a reboot, my password no longer works, and I have to re-enter it. It's not being saved correctly.

As an aside, this makes me wonder why I have to enter my password in the first place. If this handy little widget can access my Mail.app account info, why can it not also tap into my keychain to retrieve the proper password?
