INFORMATIX  To the developer: Please sort this under "demo", not "free".

Nobody minds if you charge for your work, but please be straight about it right on the cover page, i. e. the MacUpdate home page, not just in the info text.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  I had tried out the previous version of this app with no adverse effects to my Mac, but when I launched this new version, my screen went black and stayed that way, could not force-quit, could not do anything but force a restart of my computer, and then it could not get past the grey Apple screen, and I waited patiently to no avail. I then forced another restart and held down the option-command-O-F key combination to boot into Open Firmware. In Open Firmware I issued the 'reset NVRAM', 'set defaults', and 'reset all' commands and then my Mac booted properly.

This version is therefore no longer available for download.

GAOSHAN  Thanks for checking this out and pulling it. I would certainly have downloaded and tried this one out otherwise. You saved me from a bad experience!

MACUPDATE ADMIN  You're welcome.

I was well and truly angered by the experience. I've never had a similar event happen to me. I've used Apple computers since 1978, maybe I've just been lucky.

JJLANGE  Sorry. I've uploaded a fixed version to my server. If you do a Get Info on this version, you'll see that it is version 1.0pre2.1. Nothing else has changed. I do test these things before I post them, but it worked on my computer because I had some debug files that no one else has.

KEMACSABE  Dear Admin: I read your warning about this crashing your Mac as well as the Developer's reply. Taking the chance that he fixed this, I attempted to download. As per the Editor's comment above the description, it downloaded as code (I forgot to OPT-click). However, when I did OPT-click the link, I got a .txt file which opens as a page of code. I will attempt to send this to Developer as well, but thought you needed to know this.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  and whenever this sort of thing occurs, simply remove the .txt suffix from the downloaded file.

ACC  I really liked the idea so I tested it on my children and they loved it. Here are some suggestions.

I draw mode

1. If I klick on the pencil I would like to have the pencil. not a choice. Put another icon for marker.

2. I would like to be able to always have a window for a/ pencil/marker/line thickness

b/ fast choosing of colour. let say 10 standard

Almost as you have in text mode

3. It would be nice if I could get a "stamp" with some standard figures and to be able to set size.

4. I really would like to be able change size of window and be able to "maximise" the "window"

5. be able to see the "side" of the paper. As if it was a real paper you was drawing on.

6. Move Color and New icons the the bottom. Where undo is. (in text mode)

7. Be able to change font color.

8. See the text when you "klick" it in

I text mode

1. Be able to set/change the size of drawing and let text flow around it.

2. Be able to mail it without saving it first.

3. Be able to see the "side" of the paper. As if it was a real paper you was writing on.

SSEDRO  Impressive software. I was an elementary computer specialist for the past four years and I would have loved to use this with my students. Kidpix is a great tools, but kids intentionally or unintentionally got lost among the options. This has just enough options to inspire creativity.

One note, I could get pictures to import into the slide show program, but I couldn't get a written page to import.

JJLANGE  The intention was that you would use the text tool in the drawing module and the narrate function in the slide show module if you needed to present text. I will, however, look into adding the ability to import text with a future version.

MR. B  The idea behind this application is wonderful and so I will try to help with some suggestions:

1. Make the background more simple and less distracting.

2. Allow the word processing window to be adjustable in size.

3. Specify where the files are being saved to. I still can't find them.

Keep up the good work.

JJLANGE  The files are saved to /Users/Shared/KidOffice Documents//

This was done to make the interface less confusing for kids. You can change the folder that they are saved to in the settings window. You can also use the "Save to Disk" button to save the files to any location.

The background pattern is randomly chosen each time you run the program. You can change it by holding down the apple and option keys and pressing "B" a few times.

I'll look into making the Writing window resizable in a future version.

Thanks for your input.
