CAROLP PocketMac is crappy, crappy software. I would recommend that you find something, anything else. I have spent two days trying to recover my 500+ Contacts and extensive Calendar entries destroyed by this product. In my case, I was moving from an old Blackberry to a Palm Centro. Instead of asking me about conflicts between my Mac iCalendar and Address Book and the data on the Blackberry, PocketMac silently "resolved" the conflicts by dropping addresses and phone numbers on both the Mac and the Blackberry. In porting from the Blackberry calendar to iCalendar, PocketMac combined years (!) so that I had appointments from 2007 mixed in with appointments for this month. I did find out a useful thing: if you have tons of Contacts, more than can fit on a SIM card (like me), you can go to an AT&T store and they will use some machine to port your Contacts directly from the Blackberry to the Palm, without having to first get everything onto your Mac in some format and then using PalmDesktop HotSync to get it onto your Palm. Good luck, you'll need it. (Version 4.1.25)

DAVID Y I agree with most of the comments. This is the single worst application for the Mac that I have installed. I'm constantly losing contacts, appts. etc. For some strange reason, it will reboot my BB. If I knew of another piece of software, I'd be happy to pay for it. Free is not always better. NORMAN CLARK I have an Intel MacBook running OSX 10.5 and a BlackBerry Curve. PocketMac simply does not work reliably. It will sometimes do a reasonable job of synching the calendars, but it hopeless with contacts (which is what one really needs to synch!) The app hangs or crashes four out of every five times. Constant data purges, resetting to first synch state, and cleaning of sync files do not solve the problems. The support functions at both the RIM site and PocketMac are too basic to be very helpful with this. Until someone else develops a product that works, my advice is that if you have a Mac, don't buy a BlackBerry. They do not work well together. (Version 4.1.25)

DANKONLEE21 NEWSFLASH: YET ANOTHER MAC PRODUCT THAT ABSOLUTELY SUCKS. Seriously, using a Mac for the last year has turned me into the most negative person on the face of this planet. Honest to God, I havent found anything that A) Works B) Looks good and C) fully functions without boatloads of random ass modifications, hacks and codes. This program doesnt work. It doesnt successfully sync ANYTHING with your Blackberry. As usual, I assumed that it was a user error on my behalf as I always do before I pass judgement yet after a month of tutorials, online directions and web assistance both I and the technician's came to the conclusion: Dang, this software doesn't work at all. Good day Mac, and thanks for wasting my time.

JAMESKITTY Seriously, it's not really fair to judge the platform based on PocketMac, which is one of the worst pieces of software available for it. But it does make me wonder tho, obviously you know about this site, how could you have missed all the horrible, damning reviews of this program? (Version 4.1.25)

NLS PocketMac is terrible. It continues to Crash and the developers cannot figure out what the problem is. Have been in contact with PocketMac with my issues yet my problem is still not resolved. All they do is blame Macintosh. I am able to sync ICal individually but when uploading my address book the system crashes. I have deleted the PocketMac cache, deleted the entire program and re downloaded it and still have the same issues. If anyone knows how to fix theses problems please let me know. (Version 4.1.25)

FONIK Terrible GUI and tends to crash or eat up ridiculous amounts of system resources. However, it DOES sync my BlackBerry and it IS free. It may not have the zen-level of interface that some people have grown to expect from Mac software, but at least it does its job. Also, being free earns an extra star in my opinion. GPSTEIN1 I am trying to use this with a Blackberry Curve, its doesn't sync with Now Contact/Up to Date. Its also slow with Apple address book, and when using the "advanced options" button, is very slow. Not a good product at all. But its free with the Blackberry. Have used Missing Sync with my Palm Treo 650, that works great. Blackberry needs to commit to the Mac with more R & D. (Version 4.0.20b)

BREAK42 I really don't know what everyone is talking about. On the pearl the memory card wont mount under leopard, Missing sync is useless if the memory card wont mount anyways. Works fine for me, and I can use my card reader to load music or unload pics. Stable for what it does, and more stable then the windows version for me. Application utilities, address book and ical, works wonderful. Thanks RIM for looking out for your hommies (Version 4.0.20b)

AERGERN Yep. That's what I do. I use Apple apps with my BB because the only thing Entourage brings to the table is Exchange support and bloat. :D Why Microsoft removed plugin support in Office 08 is a friggin mystery. Most likely PocketMac and the others are going to write iSync plugins to interface with Blackberry's. Who knows. (Version 4.0.20b)

IGAUCHO I installed this so that my wife could use it with her new Blackberry Pearl. It's horrible. I could not get it to work on her account. Apparently it will only work on the main user's account of the machine it's installed on. I tried changing her account to administrator and it would not see the Pearl. Even the "check for update" feature does not work properly. It takes you to RIM's website but does not tell you even that you have the latest version. This software's not even worth free. Time to get Missing Sync! I use that for my Palm and it works great. (Version 4.0.20b)

OFIR GAL Very poor all round, mostly doesn't work. I installed this for several of my clients and it's the most unreliable piece of software I have ever come across. Demands for refund are simply ignored. Doesn't the US have laws against this sort of thing? (Version 4.0.20b)

| Jan 30 2008 |
AERGERN That is because Entourage 2008 has nothing built in to handle syncing with Blackberry's. It's not a Leopard, Missing Sync or PocketMac issue but rather it's a Office 2008 issue. You'll not be able to sync E08 with it. You have to use E04 or nothing right now. (Version 4.0.20b)
| Jan 31 2008 |
CORONEL Should I sit and wait for PocketMac to come up with sync solution for Entourage '08 or MS team will? Apparently PockeMac has announced that is testing MS Office '08 with BB but don't know for sure. If no solution is in the horizon then I may have to switch to Mac applications in order to sync with BB thru missing sync. Comments? (Version 4.0.20b)

HUZZAM This is among the five worst applications I've ever installed on any of my Macs, ever. It almost never completes a sync, even after resetting & hour of troubleshooting; it constantly offers meaningless error messages; it duplicates some data (mostly calendar events) & destroys some other (particularly phone numbers & addresses!). Basically, it destroys what it's supposed to sync. Avoid this (free, but never updated, it seems) program at all costs. Just paid my $40 for Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Blackberry (with which I have no affiliation other than desperation to have my syncing work)... (Version 4.0.20)

DAVIDMU At first, I could not connect my Pearl. I managed to create an account on their support site and contact them. I received a reply within a few hours explaining a workaround to connect the Pearl. Since then, I haven't had any major problems aside from the app feeling a bit like beta software. At least tech support is responsive. (Version 4.0.20)

RIDOGI As an IT consultant I'd just like to add another 1 star rating to the pile. This program is buggy, un-mac like, and basically rarely works. The installer is so poorly written that it can't even install in a standard account. It's rare that free program manages to be a rip-off, but somehow pocket mac does it. This app is the reason the iPhone is going to be huge... (Version 4.0.20)

NCIANCA A new program is being released for connecting to Blackberry devices which works *much* better. Missing Sync for Blackberry -- http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24211 I have no affiliation with Missing Sync. (Version 4.0)

NCIANCA This software is very slow and buggy. The prior version worked better on PPC but not on Intel. This one does, but it's not a universal binary - all the connection software is running via Rosetta. The calendar sync is always getting confused, and often just stops working. It's necessary to reset the device to a first sync state. I've never been able to get the iCal tasks to sync. It also takes it almost 2 full hours to sync my contacts, yet if I use the Blackberry Desktop (Windows) software, the same thing takes less then 5 minutes. Syncing my Sony Ericsson phone using iSync (via Bluetooth) also takes a few minutes (for phones, calendars, tasks, etc). It also makes no difference if you are only updating the device (1-way sync), which takes just as long as a 2-way sync. It's too bad that the only way we can use a Blackberry with OSX is using this lame, lame software. RIM (and Information Appliance / pocketmac) should be ashamed of themselves. (Version 4.0)

DANWARNE Wow, this is seriously buggy software. I got it so I could use my new Blackberry Pearl with my MacBook Pro, but it never seemed to make a connection with the Pearl -- as if it wasn't supported, even though it was. I've now gone back to my Blackberry 8707g, because I prefer it anyway, but PocketMac 4.0 won't connect to it because it has a password on the device. There IS a spot to put your password into the PocketMac SyncManager (and a note underneath saying to quit and restart the sync manager to save the password) but when I quit and restart the sync manager, the password is gone. Soooo frustrating. The worst thing is that PocketMac 3.13 worked reasonably well -- it wasn't perfect but it basically worked. PocketMac 4.0 DOESN'T, and it's annoying that all links to PocketMac 3.13 have disappeared -- it seems to be impossible to download now. :( (Version 4.0)

DCT Since there is nothing else that will synch my Blackberry Pearl with my Macintosh, I never thought I would write a review where I was "glad" to finally have an application that sometimes (rarely) works. The USB connection has a mind of it's own and needs to be plugged in and out several times before it finally takes. This software is very temperamental (I consider it to be alpha... not yet beta), and where I have other applications that I may need to force quit at times, this is the ONLY application that crashes my G5! Keep Diskwarrior or your original Tiger install CD/DVD with Disk Utility by your side... you'll need it. Where are all the shareware developers for a Blackberry synch that actually works? DAVINCHI This is a very piss poor peice of software. It locks up and crashes more often than any other peice of software that I have ever tried to used on my Mac. I have had my data corrupted numerous times with PocketMac, and I haven't even had it for more than two months. Unfortunately, it seems that RIM and Apple are somewhat uncooperative with each other and with third parties who appreciate the best that both Apple and Blackberry have to offer, and don't offer each other much support to develop usable software. Overall, my complaints are very similar to the complaints from jameskitty above. I will constantly be trying to find a new syncing and adminstration software utility for Mac OS X and Blackberry. GRAHAM BERKS Very poor piece of software. Very unreliable syncing - it's hard to predict what it's going todo. Luckily i have always backed up my data - which has saved me from this program trashing my data ! If there was ANYTHING else on the market to sync a BB and a mac i would use it ! Ultimately, if a sync program cannot sync your data reliably then of what use is it ? (Version 4.0)

JAMESKITTY Version 4 does actually sync my address book contacts and ical calendar events Blackberry 8100 (Pearl), but it's temperamental. It loses the device often (requiring multiple removal/insertions of the USB cable). And syncing fails if a media card is in the device. And if you try to use the application uploader.... well it probably won't work and you won't be able to shut down your computer afterwards. And there's still no way to reset the system software. Blackberry support is some of the worst in the business. Doesn't matter what you ask them, they'll find a third party to refer you to. And pocketmac... well despite what they claim, they don't even seem to be answering emails anymore (been well over a week with no response to my initial request). Glad this is here, but man could it use work. (Version 4.0)
