PCHARLES67  I was a long time JBidwatcher user, but for a while it seemed like you could never know whether the author had updated its interaction with ebay, so I went looking for an alternative and found Auction Hunter.

I was a bit concerned about paying for something when I had been using a freeware version for so long, but I have been really happy with the way it works.

MEMPHISBIRD  I have been using Auction Hunter since it was in beta, and I have never had any problems with sniping. In fact, it works so well that I have bought tons of things I don't even need! I even have it set at 3 seconds and it has always worked for me. I've never had an issue with it locking up my Mac, and I can freely move my categories, auctions around without issue. In fact, I have all the auctions I've ever bid on or listed still stored in Auction Hunter. I also tried Jbidwatcher and a couple of others when I first started looking for auction applications, but I liked Auction Hunter the best and I decided to go ahead and buy it when it came out of beta. All applications have some bugs to be worked out, and it is important to note how quickly and effectively a developer responds. It sounds to me like this developer is trying hard to help you, JBSSM, but you don't seem to want it. I think you should take the kindly offered refund and go buy yourself something on Ebay that will improve your disposition -- with Jbidwatcher, of course.

DARTH BROOKS  Overpriced. I don't need the snipe function, so considering other free software, I'd pay $15... maybe.

HI5PAL  This app is practically never working either properly or at all.

Presently it's not allowing to login to your account (and thus it's not snipping) since the 14th of January.

Also, as of today it's not working properly to get the data of the auctions (so, no time left and no auction title).

My advice is to just get the free program AuctionSieve or JBidWatcher to track the auctions and then bid manually (JBidWatcher is also not bidding but seems more resilient to eBay page changes and keeps giving the auction data correctly).

ZX  I love this app...Nice and responsive developer, frequent updates and does the job.

thanks:)

btw - i would pay for an upgrade today if the developer will just redesign the UI to be a bit more modern...

POWERSOLUTIONS  JBSSM,

if you are not happy with Auction Hunter, please send us an e-mail and we will issue a full refund. We certainly don't want anyone feel bad about their purchase.

While of course we would like to work with our customers to get Auction Hunter up and running, unfortunately you never send us a problem report, so I don't think it's too fair to give us a 1-star for each of your comment here.

As I already said, eBay HEAVILY changed the rules so we're trying to fix all the problems as fast as we can, also with the help of a very supportive user base that is in touch with us.

And please note that in 1 year we added a lot of new features, and more will come.

Thank you for your comprehension.

JBSSM  Snipping is not working all together.

I've lost 6 auctions by now simply because it doesn't snipe and it doesn't even give an error message, nothing ... it just lets the time pass.

Since I bought this software, more than 1 year ago, the developers haven't add any new features.

This is a paid software, when we buy it we cannot really demand new features, but it's our right to demand that it works and it simply doesn't work!

POWERSOLUTIONS  Hello JBSSM,

I don't know why you are so hostile to our product, but please note that we aren't exactly twiddling our thumbs as we are working without rest since the end of October to fix a problem introduced by eBay!

We have had to rewrite a lot of code in order to fix the application: Auction Hunter is now forced to use local eBay sites for login, bid, snipe, search and extract informations about listed items. Of course all of the above activities require the application to understand local eBay site pages, with all of the possible combinations... As you may understand, this is a very deep change to our program, and we need to test it well before releasing it, to avoid bad problems.

I’m sorry if you feel frustrated, but just try to think how we are feeling. Auction Hunter is a paying software, and for this reason we are doing ALL we can to fix it as soon as possible.

Thank you.

JBSSM  The bidding/searching is partially broken since the 27 of October when eBay made some changes.

Since then, no update was made to the application in order to solve the problem and no news were given or posted on the developer website about this problem.

JBidwatcher, a free application similar to Auction Hunter, also hasn't corrected the problem still, but they have promptly put an notice in their website stating the problem and it's origin in order to warn the users.

One would expect more from a paying software like Auction Hunter.

FREDRIX  This is a very powerful tool and I have found the support from the developer nothing short of stellar.

It is very flexible and you can do just about everything with auction hunter as it relates to ebay. I don't know what the other reviewer was writing about, but I've found the updates regular and they address any problems that I have had. It is now very stable and I'm very happy with the purchase, money well spent.

The purpose of my review is not to outline all the possibilities that Auction Hunter enables- it's shareware after all so it can be tried. It is rather comment on how happy I am with the software and it's continued development.

Thanks very much and keep up the great work!!

JBSSM  Extremely buggy software and very seldom updated.

I regret a lot that I bought a license for this software, I should stick with the free alternative Jbidwatcher.

It locks my mac lots of times (more than once a day) and then it crashes. This happens when I try to move some auction between the logical folders or even when I click an auction to open it in the browser.

Also, the search is broken, it doesn't keep the categories, so it keeps searching my search terms in all eBay instead of in a specific category even with me trying all the time for it to keep the desired category saves.

Last but not the least, it receives minor updates like once every 6 months. Mainly bug fixes for small annoyances but not for the really big problems it has.

The only thing it manages to do right it to bid in the auctions at the desired time ... although sometimes it has some error but it doesn't specify what really happen, so if it fails the snipe, many times you are left in the dark on why it happen.

Not recommended!

POWERSOLUTIONS  Hello, we are really sorry for the troubles.

Can you please try the new 1.0.4 version (that should fix all major bugs) and let us know?

Thank you in advance, and we hope you'll find Auction Hunter a useful tool again!

JBSSM  I didn't have time to check the correction to the memory leaks in 1.0.4, but it still misses the categories in the search panel.

The only eBay site that seems to work fine is the USA one, in the others (Germany for instance) it doesn't keep the search categories when I click save. If I save some search in eBay Germany for instance and then open the preference pane for a search in Italy, what I get in the categories (for eBay Italy) is what I saved in the categories for the eBay Germany.

POWERSOLUTIONS  Thanks for your report.

We've been able to reproduce the problem (unfortunately we weren't aware of it) so we already fixed it.

If you have the time, can you please download the new fixed Auction Hunter using the URL below, and try if it works for you too?

JBSSM  Hi,

no, it doesn't work correctly.

It manages to keep the categories saved, but still when a search it's made it get results from all the categories in eBay.

Also, for instance, in eBay Austria, the categories are incorrect, as an example, "Büro & Schreibwaren" doesn't appear even after I do an "Reload category".

POWERSOLUTIONS  Actually, these are two different problems (the saved categories, fixed in previous build, and the wrong results from all the categories in eBay, caused by some changes implemented by eBay staff).

Anyway, we managed to fix also the search problem and a couple more.

We just uploaded the new Auction Hunter build here, if you'd like to try it:

Thanks again!

PS. For users that are using the new "my eBay" (beta): please note that for the moment you need to opt out and use the standard my eBay if you want to sync auctions with Auction Hunter.

JBSSM  Now it seems the search is working well, but in some sites (at least in eBay Austria), the categories page still doesn't reflect the actual categories present in the eBay site. I tried to do an update to the categories but it doesn't change anything.

NOTNAP   I am new to the market for this kind of software, but I tried jbidwatch for a week before deciding to look anew, when I found this piece of software.

Yes, I've had one minor problem Auction Hunter so far - non-fatal, no crash, easy to work around. I submitted a report, got back an answer within two hours with a link to a still private beta release that fixed the problem.

Later, I sent a suggestion for a minor feature change, and again got a response thanking me for the input within hours.

Lo and behold, the feature change and the bug fix are already integrated into 0.9.9.9, less than one week later.

The interface, while still being developed, blows jbid away. It's graphical, intuitive, easy to organize, feature rich. jbid, while certainly more refined from a programing perspective, is visually ugly, and looks very much like the java app it is.

I'd like to see a more user friendly way to list items in the "default folders," allowing the user to cross reference to the items already stored in user created folders. But I can see from one of the other 0.9.9.9 fixes that development is already going in that direction.

But then again, there are menu choices and buttons in jbid which are just as, if not more un-intuitive. Hell, you have to scroll accross using a cryptic button to even discover you are not even seeing all of the tabs in the option screen.

Don't get me wrong - I could tell jbid is powerful, and deserves it's loyal following. But from a quick, two week tour of the two, I saw little in jbid that wasn't in AH, and better presented at that. I'll take AH's beta glitches over jbid's butt ugly interface - at least I can tell the glitches will go away.

NOCKAMURA's comment seemed to imply Auction Hunter is not being updated... I found quite the contrary, as my explanation above showed. While I do not doubt graphxdave's experience, I'm guess ing he was on the unlucky end of a bad mix of beta software and otherwise innocuous conditions. My advice to all - beta is beta: if you want to use it, and have a problem, contact the vendor before telling the rest of the world. I've found the support - as well as the comments here - to be quite the opposite of smarmy. But that's just me, YMMV.

By the time the full feature is released, and assuming the underlying database is as robust and as stable as the developer says it is in the literature, I do not have any doubt it will be worth the nominal fee.

HAGI  Best App to monitor eBay-Auctions. Here are some awesome features (ALL not included in JBidWatcher):

- complex search-form(s). You can save search-queries and search in former results.

- export your found items as Safari-Webarchive of the original eBay-page to get all information.

- manage items with folder-hierarchie (instead of flat-tabs)

- search only ended auctions to get an overview of street-price

- multilanguage-support

- password-protection

I can't tell much about stability or if the sniping-feature works, cause i've downloaded it a few hours ago. But you can collect information with a great ease of use, without getting garbage.

O.K.; a great plus of JBidWatcher is the price ....

I'm sorry my previous post sounded "smarmy" as AL_GIOVANNI pointed out, it wasn't my intention, really.

What I actually meant is that we'll do our best to fix problems, if users report them to us. Of course, you're free to politely blame a product because it is buggy, but please consider that Auction Hunter is currently in beta and it won't be available for sale unless all major bugs will be fixed. It isn't in our interest to sell buggy software, and so far we did not ask for money to anyone.

As I've said in my previous post, of course we didn't experience this specific problem before, or it would have been fixed already... so please, if you find anything wrong let us know some additional details on your configuration that could help us fix the bug (Mac model, OS version, hardware configuration...): we would _really_ appreciate it, and there are also FREE licenses to the most dedicated beta testers.

Thank you in advance.

AL_GIOVANNI  Wow, for $30.00 you get a crashing app and smarmy customer support (see reply below).

I'm having the same problem as GRAPHX. This thing implodes nearly every other time I try to update an item.

Anyway, if you're gonna charge double-digits, you'd better at least be nice. This same program is available for free in jbidwatcher, and other apps on MU.

POWERSOLUTIONS SUPPORT  Hi Al_Giovanni,

I'm sorry my previous post sounded "smarmy", it wasn't my intention, really. Maybe this is because I'm not very fluent in English...

What I meant is: how are we supposed to fix the bugs if the users don't report them to us?

Developers release software in beta version exactly for this reason: let the people try it and report any problems in order to make the product more stable. Our product isn't currently available for sale, and won't unless all major bugs will be fixed...

As I've said to GRAPHXDAVE, of course we didn't experience this specific problem before, or it would have been fixed already... so, if you could let us know some additional details on your configuration (Mac model, OS version, hardware configuration...) that could help us fix the bug, we would _really_ appreciate it.

Thank you in advance.

POWERSOLUTIONS SUPPORT  GRAPHXDAVE, thank you very much for your "kind words" about Auction Hunter.

I suppose you've been very unlucky, since the application has been deeply tested for more than a year from several users before releasing a public beta, and none of them did report such a "catastrophic" behavior during this time.

Of course I have no doubt you're experiencing problems: please notice that current version (0.9.9.1) is beta software and, as such, it could still be buggy (as clearly stated in "readme" file). But I suppose a bug report to our support email address would have been more useful, especially to avoid the same problems to current/future users...

For any suggestions, reports and complaints, please refer to the address: support@powersolutions.it. We'll do our best to solve any problem as soon as possible. Thanks.
